Morning all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, waiting for the results from your Scales of Truth!

Hopefully the final weigh-in is a good one for you all.

Although this is the end of this Bootcamp, it's not the end of the chat - so not the end of support, advice and general chit chattery!

So don't despair if you haven't reached your target. Keep going and reporting in here. The Big Stick will be rested in the cupboard for a while, but you can keep checking in here.

Yay 1Wildheartsease and SlinkyDinkyDoo for BB Goals.

MrsKoala it’s apparently panino singular Hmm and panini plural. If one is Italian.

BIWI I’m having great fun imagining a Passive-Aggressive version of you. Not authentic, but as a character in a story could be quite amusing, what with the effort to avoid clarity and directness. Grin

StuntNun I like the Keto recipe for Chicken Lettuce Wraps for picnics. Can be made in advance and microwaved to heat on the day with proper containers. Even without the lettuce, it’s a flavourful spoon and eat warm-ish dish to enjoy.

MrsKoala · 30/03/2019 18:50

Ah yes ShagMe, I used to have an Italian boss and I remember her banging on about it but couldn't quite remember what one was what.

Takeaway curry tonight - Chicken tikka and brinjal for me I think and I've just registered for classes at the gym next week to force myself to exercise.

Doilooklikeatourist · 30/03/2019 18:57

Carb creep has definitely arrived in the tourist household
Had a slice of toast for breakfast ( thinking it would alleviate the cravings )
Oh no
And then DH has bought us pizza for dinner ( and a M & S Indian meal for Mothers Day .. sighs )
At least he hasn’t bought me chocolates...

BrassicaBabe · 30/03/2019 19:24

Takeaway night in our house. Kebab meat and cheese for me. DH has the most amazing gooey and sloppy pizza. It's torture! Worse...there's leftovers. Sad Talk me down people!!

In other news I think I'm going to get a little squiffy and enter a half marathon for the end of September HmmGrin

StuntNun · 31/03/2019 07:55

Thanks for the picnic suggestions. Crustless quiche is another one to add to my list.

Siameasy · 31/03/2019 18:37

Have long term BC-ers given up all sugar and banned starches completely?

I’m asking cos I was having a think about it all.

There was a time when we were able to include the odd bit of chocolate or bag of crisps. Pudding on a Sunday, cake on a birthday. Actual moderation.

But things went wrong. For me part of it was using food as an emotional crutch, similar to how people use booze. I started young tho as I was binge eating crisps around aged 8, feeling shame, hiding the evidence etc.

Later I used pasta and ice cream (not together🤢). I can honestly say I got a “hit” off of both like a druggie would.

All this came about because I really miss chocolate 😭as chocolate is everywhere atm

I’d be interested in your thoughts!

MarmaladeTeepee · 31/03/2019 20:06

Not really helpful Siameasy as I'm not a long termer, but I can safely say after gaining 6lb in one day of eating a "normal" amount of carbs (ie not a binge) that my body does not tolerate carbs! I honestly don't think I'll ever be able to eat starchy carbs again without gaining significant amounts of weight. I didn't even think it could be possible to gain that much weight in one day without seriously binging, but hey ho at least I've learned my lesson Grin

But on the plus side eating these carbs didn't trigger a binge and I haven't been tempted since, so that's encouraging. Maybe long term I will be one of those people who can have the odd bit of cake, chocolate, bread etc without needing to demolish the full lot?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 31/03/2019 20:26

Urgh. End of bootcamp has brought on less of a 'fuck it' weekend, and more of a mild 'damn it'. Not hideously over the top, but a couple of bits of toast, dates, wine and new potatoes (which were fabulous).

Back on it as of tomorrow.

Siameasy, I have given up sugar completely, as in sugar on or in anything, or anything made mostly of sugar (jam, sweets etc). I just don't want it anymore. It's the starchy veg I have issues with - carrots, potatoes, parsnips... love 'em all. And the wine. But I'm with Marmalade - some starchy veg and a couple of glasses of wine with dinner and boom, back up 5lbs or so. It hits the emotional comfort zone for me. But an hour after this carby lovefest of a dinner and I'm soooooo tired I'm off to bed in a moment. Whether the lbs go on or not tomorrow, starchy carbs are such a sedative!

Siameasy · 31/03/2019 20:35

6lb Marmalade OMG. Do you think abstaining as we have been and then having the carbs means you’ve eroded your tolerance? A bit like with booze.

Carrots taste so sickly sweet to me Athelstane it’s crazy! And both of you have put me off the idea that I might get fish and chips on my birthday.

So far I’ve had one poppadum (underwhelming) and some lightly battered halloumi (quite nice) off plan and neither triggered me at all. But I’m not planning any more transgressions

I do miss fish and chips, magnums and chocolate. It’s funny how some things hang in there!

I’m now wondering if starch is worse than chocolate!

MarmaladeTeepee · 31/03/2019 20:42

Athelstane I feel your pain. I can live without pasta, bread, rice, cake, sugar etc but I really miss potatoes . However the fact that I don't have to live without cheese and butter does compensate slightly and I've promised myself when I get to normal BMI I'll treat myself to a fluffy jacket potato. I need to get out more.

MarmaladeTeepee · 31/03/2019 20:47

Simaeasy it took 3 days but thankfully it came off! I definitely agree it's a lack of tolerance after abstinence that caused it, I used to eat like that all the time and didn't gain weight that quickly! Although I did gain 2 stone in 2 years and this WOE is the only thing that's worked to help me shift it so I know carbs are just not compatible with me.

Siameasy · 31/03/2019 21:41

I agree about bread rice pasta I’m not bothered. People bring in shop-bought cakes and donuts at work and I think “gross”
My daughter received a Lindt bunny and it smelt really nice because Lindt is decent chocolate (it’s quite fatty whereas Cadbury’s is sugar-heavy and I’m not a fan)

I’ve always suffered from a bloated middle even as a skinny child - they say you’re drawn to what you’re allergic to and I used to adore potatoes too Marmalade but I think they’re awful for blood sugar for me.

Mandelinka · 31/03/2019 23:09

First bbq of the year, marinated NZ lamb and new potatoes ( lamb chewy, potatoes were divine)
Few glasses of red

Aiming for 7lb BB It’s not looking well at the. Invent, official weigh in in the morning Confused

chocolateavocado99 · 01/04/2019 00:32

I have been out a lot this weekend where I couldn't eat anything, so pretty much ended up snacking on peanuts/ cheese and eggs. Definitely not enough veggies. And I drank wine Friday and Saturday.
I was expecting a huge gain this morning but I just weighed myself and I am still 151. Could have been worse. Back on track today.

venusandmars · 01/04/2019 09:35

I've been at a collection of family events which have included lunches in restaurants, eating in other people's homes and a carb-fest buffet! I've done mostly OK, and I volunteered to cook the main celebration dinner (confit duck, buttery spinach and celeriac dauphinoise went down well). However a lentil soup was unavoidable and I didn't manage to pick all the chickpeas out of the chicken and chickpea curry.

Still away, so won't know what the damage is till Wednesday.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 01/04/2019 10:34

Oof hangover central here Blush if only vodka were low alcohol as well as low carb.

Early weigh in yesterday as I knew I would be having an off plan day (cake/chocolate/bread!). A pound off which is good considering my end of bootcamp blowout.

Urgh. Why is getting squiffy such a brilliant idea at the time and SO shit the next day?

1stMrsF · 01/04/2019 11:25

Up 1lb from last week, but after a week of wine creep and having enjoyed a sliver of cake and a roast potato over the weekend, I'll take that.

Today I feel like I may be coming down with the sickness bug that's been sweeping school. Sipping water and trying to decide whether to eat or not. It comes in waves and the waves seem to be getting less acute and less frequent so I'm hoping it's passing, but if I eat, it may all go wrong. Oh well, I'd been thinking about trying a 24hr fast anyway...

Mandelinka · 01/04/2019 11:48

.5lb down from my final BC weigh in, however I have a feeling there will be potential weight gain after the food I consumed over the weekend. Also catching up with a friend who just had a baby, so there will be some cake.
Anyway, have meals planned until Thursday, sticking to IF most days so this should help keeping the weight in check.
The carb/wine creep is happening, also excercised only once a week, compared to 4/5 sessions during the BC. Need to refocus.

KiteMarked · 01/04/2019 11:58

I just finished reading "Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes, and I am experiencing a shift in my world view. Basically I need to look at all carbs (and anything else that increases my insulin levels like too much cheese or diet soda) as fattening. Insulin is the driving force for fat gain.

The book is really interesting, and has definitely encouraged me to request a "birthday steak" rather than cake this year, because I don't want to increase the size of my fat cells. Grin

Siameasy · 01/04/2019 12:07

That book is eye opening Kite
There’s a thread on Aibu asking for book recommendations around that topic and I just recommended it
I look at carrots with disdain now😂it’s terrible😂

MarmaladeTeepee · 01/04/2019 12:20

7lb down, although 6lb of that is from my one day carb gain. Only 3lb off a stone now so I'm determined to hit that by Sunday as we go on holiday then. Well done to everyone else on their losses and to those who are KOKO.

BrassicaBabe · 01/04/2019 13:00

So, I'm on holiday next week. Rate my plan!!

I won't fall face first into the cream scones as I walk though the door of the holiday cottage
I will just eat the cream.

I won't main line crisps and haribo in the evenings.
But I'm afraid I will drink plenty of wine.

I will stick to LC breakfast and lunch. Going to take my lo-dough with me.
But I will indulge in good quality chips or bread if accompanied by food like local crab sandwiches as part of evening meals. If the restaurant is nothing special then I will skip the carbs all together.

I will take my running gear.
I will skip the weirdly traditional huge bucket of KFC on the outward journey.

How does that sound?!

On holidays since being LC my best has been a 4lb gain. My worse has been 9lb! Shock

m0therofdragons · 01/04/2019 15:35

Some amazing losses here. My final week was a disaster so my 1st weight loss suddenly evaporated into 8lbs loss. It's evened out to 12lbs now so I'm less sulky, had a fab birthday weekend and am now back on plan. I have a spa day in 2 weeks so I am fully focused! Hoping to lose at least 8lbs before allowing any flex as the bad habits creep back in quickly.

Next real target is July as I want to be slim on holiday. Health wise I can now comfortably complete a 5k race so will keep that going and stop the sweet things!

venusandmars · 01/04/2019 21:32

@BrassicaBabe - good plan.

Skipping the KFC - excellent. What will you have instead? Some smoked salmon or egg and prawn mayonnaise with a few salad leaves? Cheese and ham rollitos? M&S do some good portable options.

Eating just the cream and not the scone sounds wonderful. Remember to take a wee plastic spoon with you wherever you go so you can scoop up the cream and don't have to use scone to transfer it to your mouth, and beware of accidentally eating some jam mixed in with the cream.

What will you have with your wine instead of crisps? I often take a wee bag of nuts ( almonds hazelnuts, or macadamias), especially if we're going out to the pub for a drink. You don't HAVE to eat them, but they're there if you feel tempted. And a square of 90% cocoa chocolate in the evening.... Or you could make nutbutter cocoa bombs - a high quality nut butter, mixed with raw cocoa powder, formed into balls and rolled in desiccated coconut. You need to keep them in the fridge. Things to prevent you from feeling that you're depriving yourself or missing out. And things that are high fat.

I understand the bread / chips decision on a good meal out. Can you limit the quantities? e.g. bargain with yourself that you will have either bread or chips, and not both? Or half the portion. So if you had a fresh crab sandwich, could you take off the top layer of bread, leaving an open sandwich? Or get chips to share with someone else rather than a portion to yourself?

And remember to drink lots of water. Always.

But most of all enjoy yourself. This is a way of life, and it's got to be enjoyable.

KiteMarked · 01/04/2019 22:00

Siameasy
My husband is type 1 diabetic, and I about fell on the floor when I read about the long term type 1 woman with fatty deposits on her legs where she'd been injecting insulin over the past 30-40 years. DH has been type 1 for the past 14 years, and injects in his stomach. He has developed a belly over the years, so that was a wild realisation!

Tonight I managed to zip up a size 10 coat. I am a typical pear, still wearing size 14 jeans though. Grin I also had some candid pics taken of me over the weekend when I was out with friends, and I didn't hate what I saw. I feel more like myself.
