Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the line!

Morning all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, waiting for the results from your Scales of Truth!

Hopefully the final weigh-in is a good one for you all.

Although this is the end of this Bootcamp, it's not the end of the chat - so not the end of support, advice and general chit chattery!

So don't despair if you haven't reached your target. Keep going and reporting in here. The Big Stick will be rested in the cupboard for a while, but you can keep checking in here.

@AthelstaneTheUnready GrinGrin. Tbf they've probably seen odder things happening in a swimming pool in Gloucester....... Confused

MarmaladeTeepee · 01/05/2019 19:09

Shagme oh God yes, I'm sure I pledged to lose a stone - ha!!!

BIWI I'm so pleased you haven't retired the big stick, I'm living proof what happens without it Grin

Notlostjustexploring · 01/05/2019 20:18

I don't think I've ever weighed less than my husband in all the time we've known each other, need to fix that. High five for achieving that!!

My BB goal of dropping down to the next stone bracket, a matter of a pound and a half went merrily out of the window. My interim interim goal is now to get as close as possible to the weight I finished the previous bootcamp on!!

I was almost perfect today. Boiled eggs mashed with cheese and butter, cheese and shallot omelette, and dinner is ham, swede chips and some random freezer veg. However I've drunk very little water so I'm feeling like a dried up husk now!

I'm looking forward to the return of the big stick!!

BrassicaBabe · 01/05/2019 23:31

A seriously terrible day. No excuse like visitors or an occasion. I just started eating at midday and pretty much haven't stopped. Beef with horseradish. Cheese. Pepperami. Rhubarb and yoghurt. Cheese. Cheese. Cheese. Peanut butter on a spoon. Cheese. Pork scratchings. Did I mention cheese. WTAF!!! I do not understand my own head sometimes

m0therofdragons · 01/05/2019 23:59

@Notlostjustexploring if all else fails, find a taller husband Wink

Notlostjustexploring · 02/05/2019 09:17

BrassicaBabe doesn't sound like a terrible day. A day featuring cheese is always a good day in my books!!

I'm not sure how tall a husband I'd have to find... anyway, I'm keeping this one. We've two small children and he gets up every morning at 6am with them so I get extra time in bed. He can weigh less than me all he wants!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 02/05/2019 10:46

Sounds GREAT, Brassica Grin

Your appetite is your appetite, so go for it. You've been LC'ing long enough so that I wouldn't have thought your body is tricking you with demands for rubbish - it probably genuinely wants all that cheese for something.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 02/05/2019 10:48

As for BB goals - mine was to get back to my lowest last BC weight. Am still 3lbs off that, but have lost a mahoosive 7lbs of the stopping-smoking gain, so thank god for that much.

BrassicaBabe · 02/05/2019 12:06

There will be NO pitter pattering in this house Athel Grin

Yesterday was a really emo binge. Sad Put on 2lb. Off for a run shortly to try to shift it.

BrassicaBabe · 02/05/2019 12:07

3lbs sounds doable. Well done for shifting the non smoking weight. Giving up must be hellish.

m0therofdragons · 02/05/2019 23:38

There are times when I really scoff every but I've not be binging as much at all since I started the last boot camp. Tonight I have a voice reminding me about all the cake and flapjacks in the drawer but instead I had some cheese. I've changed Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/05/2019 01:42

Was it chlorinated chicken?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 03/05/2019 09:26
Grin

The thought of how easily America will be able to screw us over in the matter of trade deals is absolutely not grin. I only eat local free range chicken anyway, just hope they're not priced out of business by imported chlorine washed US miseries. Different customer base I should think, so hope not.

Another lb off today (if I squint), so BB goal of back to BC weight looking doable.

Notlostjustexploring · 03/05/2019 10:49

Ah yes, I recognise the emotional binges. However you deserve mega, mega, mega points for sticking away from sugar and not falling face first into insert copious volume of sugary foods of choice. And well done for picking yourself up.

I'm on day 2 of following strict bootcamp rules* in anticipation of next bootcamp as I refuse to begin the next bootcamp heavier than I finished the last one. I'm a tantalising 2.5lbs away. I'm also a tantalising 4.5 away from a BMI of 29.99. I'm still annoyed at myself for not pushing myself to that during last bootcamp.

*Well, almost.

BrassicaBabe · 03/05/2019 11:38

Notlost yep, I'm with you on that. I logged goal weight of 9.10 at the end of BC. Currently 9.13.8. Not sure I'm going to manage that.

Just pleased I've made it back to where I was this time last week. LC binges offset by fasting and running!!

Notlostjustexploring · 03/05/2019 14:55

I was doing some tidying and just uncovered a bastarding family size bar of chocolate.

I thought I'd eaten all the chocolate, but apparently not.

I've almost eaten a bit several times, but I know if I have a bit I'll have the lot. Then go to the shops and buy more. And then have takeaway for dinner. So that one square is like a gateway to all the sugar.

I'm going to continue to ignore it (binning it is just too far beyond my abilities) until my husband is home and he'll hide it for me.

BrassicaBabe · 03/05/2019 19:37

Notlost I feel your pain!! DH has just come in with a Dundee cake from his aunt. Don't know why they call it Dundee cake. It's the most glorious buttery fruit cake you can ever imagine!! After crisps (which I don't have in the house) it's my carb Achilles heel!! I might have to spirit it to the freezer before I succumb 😩😩

BrassicaBabe · 03/05/2019 19:41

@BIWI can you remind me, who are our LC runners? I'm a member of several running FB groups etc but don't want to mention LC. Everyone's too much into carb loading etc which I know is bolllox for us. I've got a book about sports and LC but it's as dry as a desert. I wondered if any of our number know of any LC running resources x

BIWI · 03/05/2019 19:52

I can't remember who our runners are, I'm afraid Confused

But a really good book is "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance" by Drs Phinney and Volek. Can really recommend that.

I run a couple of times a week. Well jog. Slowly 😁.

I have to run before breakfast as once I've eaten I'm a sloth. So no carbs at all and I can run 10k happily without any food. But then I have plenty of energy stores Hmm

m0therofdragons · 03/05/2019 20:38

I run... jog slowly. Usually one evening about 8pm so 2 hours after dinner then have a slice of cheese when I get in. I also do park run Saturday mornings and have coffee and a banana for breakfast recently so not sure what I'll do while on boot camp. I think I was having a slice of meat with butter rolled up for breakfast but can't actually remember!

BrassicaBabe · 03/05/2019 20:53

Thanks. That's the book I've got. I'm struggling with it. It's no Julia Donaldson GrinGrin

Having done a bit of reading is that maybe LCers running just do it. I think...There is no need for fuelling LC, carb loading or otherwise. We are fat adapted so our bodies burn fat easily for energy. And unless we are a super athlete or poorly our bodies have enough fat to call upon for exercise. I run fasted. Ok so far only up to 11k but fasted none the less. But I've signed up for a half marathon which is 20k so interested in gathering the views of others. But I'm also not always keen to fly the LCHF flag in every circumstance. Not everyone "gets it" Hmm

BIWI · 04/05/2019 09:23

Even elite athletes have sufficient fat to fuel a long distance run. If you're fat adapted, you should be able to cope without having to 'carb up' - and you shouldn't 'hit the wall' (or 'bonk' if you're a cyclist).

I know what you mean about the book @BrassicaBabe, and I have to confess that my eyes glazed over on more than one occasion! But it's definitely worth a read - you'll get the overall gist of what they're saying. I also like the fact that they do their own research to explore their hypotheses too.

m0therofdragons · 04/05/2019 09:46

I hear people carb loading for a 5k - completely bonkers imo.

I'm doing my usual daily weighing and since a couple of blips in March I've had steady losses, until today when I've gone up 1lb. I get so frustrated with weight loss as I've not done anything differently or even binged etc so why has it gone up. My sensible head says I need to drink more and period is due so could be that but still, argh!

Siameasy · 04/05/2019 11:07

Gosh I constantly hear about “but you need carbs for energy”
Firstly I do eat carbs (veg, small amounts of fruit, nuts, coconut)
Secondly the carb lovers never seem to have any energy and therefore need to stoke the fire
Thirdly I go to the gym fasted and I’m improving every time so 🤷‍♀️
Fourthly you do become fat adapted but I think it can take some time. I’ve noticed a difference in two months but I wouldn’t say I’m fully fat adapted yet for cardio.
