Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the line!

BIWI · 25/03/2019 06:29

Morning all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, waiting for the results from your Scales of Truth!

Hopefully the final weigh-in is a good one for you all.

Although this is the end of this Bootcamp, it's not the end of the chat - so not the end of support, advice and general chit chattery!

So don't despair if you haven't reached your target. Keep going and reporting in here. The Big Stick will be rested in the cupboard for a while, but you can keep checking in here.

Got my chicken freddy in the oven at this moment! Smells so good.

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 27/03/2019 21:06

So I'm delurking to say hello to everyone and a big thank you to BIWI and company.

I started bootcamp weighing 62kg and I'm ending it at 55kg.

After three miscarriages in a year I had two DDs less than 15 months apart. I had to take steroids for the pregnancies so piled on weight and retained a hell of a lot of water. I'm only five foot two. My youngest is now 19months and before bootcamp I managed to get down to 10st but couldn't seem to drop any more.

I'm finally on my way back to the old me thanks to bootcamp Smile

Siameasy · 27/03/2019 21:53

Hello Snoopy that is a huge loss well done.

Today I was really hungry. All my foods were BC friendly but still. I’ve been caning it at the gym trying to build muscle; yesterday was leg day and what I like to do is exhaust the legs so they are shaking iyswim. I wonder if the hunger comes from that? Cos I’m in paaaaaaiiiinnn!!!

BIWI · 27/03/2019 22:14

More protein!

If anyone posts their day's menu on here then surely they are asking for it to be critiqued? That's why I didn't post ever post mine Wink If I did, and got the stick, I wouldn't complain!

ShagMeRiggins · 28/03/2019 07:29

BIWI I must be a worse writer than I thought—the softly softly scenario I created was meant to be a clearly annoying approach that I don’t want you to take!

Rshard · 28/03/2019 07:31

Ha @shagme!

Does anyone remember the debacle over the croissant?

ShagMeRiggins · 28/03/2019 07:34

Yay MrsKoala and MarmaladeTeepee with BB Goals.

I’ll definitepy be continuing the Monday weigh in and updating the spreadsheet for as many weeks as there are columns for it.

ShagMeRiggins · 28/03/2019 07:37

Oh yes, La Croissant Sans Remords. Don’t remember the name of the poster though.

ShagMeRiggins · 28/03/2019 07:52

Le croissant.

I’m half French. Mortifying.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 28/03/2019 09:08

Croissants don't mind being misgendered I'm sure

Shag, I was horrified at the picture you conjured up of BIWI being all passive-aggressive. Grin

1Wildheartsease · 28/03/2019 12:25

ShagMeRiggins I'm in for BB goals too. 5lb would be great.
Why stop when it is working?

(Just this week I got up - and down- my first real mountain in 25 years! Carrying 40lb less made this possible. Bootcamp is amazing.)

My weightloss progress is snail-like (a bit like my progress up the mountain) but it seems sustainable and will get me to a healthy BMI in the end.

I lost 8lb this bootcamp - though I really wanted to be down 10 BUT have certainly developed some leg muscles from the spare fat in my system.

My BB goal - to get to 'average' BMI (apparently the average person is overweight) and into the 12st somethings - so down another 5 lb.

That would leave me just 9lb from a (just) approved BMI. (End of next bootcamp?)

BIWI · 28/03/2019 12:28

Oh. I was looking forward to developing my passive aggressive skills Grin

BIWI you could always add a stick to your cupboard a
PAS - passive-aggressive-stick ?

No - don't! Just keep doing what you are doing so well.

Pasta Alla Norma
Serves 2 (scales up easily)

Ingredients:
Olive Oil
1 large aubergine (eggplant)
Salt and pepper
2 cloves of garlic, crushed
1 teaspoon of dried oregano
½ teaspoon of dried chilli flakes
400g tin of chopped tomatoes
A pinch of sugar
A dash of red wine or sherry vinegar
20g bunch of fresh basil
25g of freshly grated ricotta salata or pecorino cheese
200g of dried pasta such as rigatoni or penne

Method:
Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a wide pan over a medium-high heat. Dice the aubergine into 1-1½cm cubes and fry them in the oil with a little salt until soft and golden all over. This will only take a few minutes so keep an eye on them.
When the aubergine is cooked add a little more oil as the aubergine will have absorbed what you already added. Add in the garlic, oregano and chilli flakes and fry gently for another minute.
Pour in the tin of tomatoes, sugar and vinegar and season with a little pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer and then turn down the heat to low. Allow the sauce to cook for 20 minutes so that the tomatoes break down and it thickens.
When the sauce is almost cooked, boil your pasta as per packet instructions.
Chop most of the basil and add it to the sauce to wilt a bit. Taste the sauce for seasoning and adjust as needed, remember you will be adding salty cheese on top.
Drain the pasta when it is cooked, reserving a splash of the water.
Pour a tablespoon of the pasta water into the sauce to help it adhere to the pasta. Then stir through the pasta until it is completely combined.
Serve immediately with a green salad, some crusty white bread and a balsamic and olive oil dip.

Made this tonight , obviously without the pasta and sugar ( had a pork chop , and some green beans )
Was lovely , would be good with a bed of broccoli or courgettes noodles

venusandmars · 28/03/2019 23:15

Tonight I had a variation of an Ainsley Harriott recipe for baked cabbage and ham:

Butter melted in pan
Add 1 chopped onion, and chopped cabbage (half)
Cook for 5 minutes
Add spinach
Cook till wilted
Add chopped ham (4oz)

Put mixture (onion, cabbage, spinach, ham) in a casserole dish, add ground black pepper

Mix grated cheese (4oz), mustard (2 tsp), cream (200ml)

Spread cheese and cream mix on top of cabbage and ham
Cook at 180 for 20 minutes

Yum, yum.

BIWI · 29/03/2019 11:46

Both of those sound lovely

Does anyone have any suggestions for low carb picnic items? Bonus points for any that don't need to be bought fresh just before such as salad.

Siameasy · 29/03/2019 13:47

Hard boiled egg
Cold meats
Nuts
Olives
Crudités with sour cream/salsa dip
Shredded coconut
An avocado can be eaten straight from the shell
Cheese wrapped in chorizo/ham
Peperami
Are my go-to

Siameasy · 29/03/2019 13:47

Celery is nice dipped in nut butter

MarmaladeTeepee · 29/03/2019 20:12

Frittata's always good for a picnic or mini pastry-less quiches. Today's sunshine has got me dreaming of picnics and a glass of rose

SummerSazz · 29/03/2019 20:57

Omg I have so fallen off the wagon this week. Where is @BIWI and her stick??? I need a branch ffs.

Drawing a line under it as I've been out for 6 nights on the trot which is not good. I'm 46 ffs and this is not good for me. Either in a tiredness or calorific way....

Have Mum and MIL to stay this weekend so I've decided I'm doing lots of running BlushGrin

BrassicaBabe · 30/03/2019 07:08

I'm late to the BC chat party. It's been a busy week and I never managed to catch-up

It was another German work week. I've been eating olives, sliced cheese and salami in the evenings from Lidl. Oh and wine. My wine drinking has slipped back into mid week again. I need to get more disciplined!!

I missed the big stick chat which has mainly moved on. I guess the point to press home is that LCHF isn't something you can cheat at. It just won't work. It's not like low cal where if you sneak half a packet of custard creams one day you just eat lettuce the next day. I received the big stick once. I was only about 5 weeks into my first BC and had a family holiday coming up. I was having a panic. I had to find for myself that sometimes life gets in the way. Grin

I've totally fallen off the running wagon too. New job has messed with my routine Hmm

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 30/03/2019 09:10

Bit late to the party but checking in now. Had a couple of days off which involved wine, carbs and sugar. Don't regret them, enjoyed them but by the evening of day 2 I thought right, I've had my fill of that, time to get back on it.

I'm going to aim for a BB of 7lbs as well. Holiday in a couple of weeks and I know that I'll be less inclined to shun the wine and the occassional croissant etc during that time. 7lbs over 7 weeks is realistic I think.

MrsKoala · 30/03/2019 14:16

I've had a bit of a carb creep week. I've been out loads which has been unplanned (fil back in hospital and DH has kept taking the car and DD has had d&v, so I haven't done a big shop, and the options at home are pretty slim). Had 2 dinners out where peas were the only veg and one meal where the chicken breast came out breaded Angry . I chose a suitable café for lunch which did omelettes and salad to find they'd changed their menu and now only do jacket potato or paninis (or is the plural panino? Confused ). My companions had all ordered when I got there so I just had a cup of tea with semi skimmed milk and felt murderously hungry.

Yesterday we had no breakfast options and I was starving so I ate one of the kids left over hot cross buns (it was nice and I did enjoy it and it really satisfied the torturous cravings I have had from smelling them everyday, but I didn't feel the need for any more after 1, which was good). There has also been 4 glasses of wine and 3 glasses of prosecco mid week Blush .

With all that in mind I weighed myself this morning expecting a gain or a stall and I was shocked to see I've lost 4lb! But next week I have vowed to be back on it properly as FIL should be going to a new home on Tuesday and routine should return to normal (till the following week f course which is the Easter hols...)

Hope you all have a lovely Mothers day - is anyone going to be taken anywhere nice?

Oh and wrt to picnic food, cocktail sausages and fritatas are my go to - usually chorizo and green pepper or feta and spinach
