Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the line!

Morning all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, waiting for the results from your Scales of Truth!

Hopefully the final weigh-in is a good one for you all.

Although this is the end of this Bootcamp, it's not the end of the chat - so not the end of support, advice and general chit chattery!

So don't despair if you haven't reached your target. Keep going and reporting in here. The Big Stick will be rested in the cupboard for a while, but you can keep checking in here.

Lk Bennett dress is years old and was in the sales but it's still lovely.

That's even better. Sale dresses are the best dresses.

venusandmars · 17/04/2019 14:52

And being able to fit into 'old' clothes again. is a wonderful feeling Smile

Someone I know once talked about friends in 3 categories: for a season, for a reason, for a lifetime. It doesn't lessen the value of the friendship at the time, but recognises that interactions change over time. The hard part is recognising when to move on.

m0therofdragons · 17/04/2019 19:36

@venusandmars I like that saying and have had that conversation with dd1 but I guess I thought these ones were here for the long haul.

TowandaForever · 17/04/2019 19:44

@Heartyhooker

Do you know what the Aldi choc bars are called?

Heartyhooker · 17/04/2019 20:02

The Mister Roth one's I think. They come in packs of five.

1Wildheartsease · 18/04/2019 15:11

Just made a really delicious fish soup. I think it deserves something extra with it. What is the best recipe for LC cheese 'scones'?

ilovecherries · 18/04/2019 15:26

My (new look size 12) jeans had to be clutched to my waist today as I was fast-walking for a train. I bought a belt for them when I was out, def slimming down now the carb bloat is easing off. According to the scales, I’m 2 lbs down, giving me my lowest weight since my wedding day. Which was 38 years ago! I’m still half a stone above that weight but at that time didn’t have scales in our new house so that was weighed in mum and dads on the morning of the wedding. I guess I’m actually nearer the weight I was after three months of marriage, and never seen it since.

FISH SOUP
PREPARE
3 shallots – softened in 28g unsalted butter for 15 mins on low till just starting to brown.

150ml dry white wine – poured over the soften onions and reduced at a bubble for 5 mins
500ml veg stock (or fish or chicken) – pour into reduced wine/onions
500g leaves (I used chard and wild garlic. Also good are spinach or lettuce) – chopped small and added to stock to simmer for 10mins under a lid
150g parsley or coriander leaves. – Add HALF to the simmering stock with the leaves (RESERVE HALF to stir into soup at the end.)
Chop 2 thick slices of back bacon into tiny cubes. Brown these in a hot frying pan with a teasp oil.
After 10 mins simmer for the stock/veg, remove a ladleful of the veg and reserve. Blend the rest with a stick blender. Stir the reserved ladleful back in.

Add HALF the browned bacon
Reserve the other half of the bacon and mix it with the chopped coriander/parsley. Grate in the zest of half a lemon (or lime). Put all this in a small pot ready to be served on top of the finished soup portions.
WHEN READY TO SERVE:
Bring stock back to simmer.
Add 1cm cubes of cod (200g) and raw king prawns (100g) or mixed fish of choice. Simmer for 3 mins
Check fish is cooked through.
Serve with the reserved herbs/bacon/lemon zest.
And with bread or low-carb cheese scones.

Oooo, I've just been experimenting with bread substitutes!! I was trying to make a muffin in a minute but had no butter in the house (ate it all!).

I mixed up the following:
Tablespoon of flax seed
Large egg
Pinch salt
Pinch bicarbonate of soda
Mixed herbs
Teaspoon of caramelised onion (not ideal but I figured it was reasonably diluted etc)
Dash double cream
Grated parmesan

I microwaved it for 2-3 minutes. I then cut it in thick slices and toasted it, then spread it with cream cheese. Went amazing with soup. Might have to make your fish soup to have it with!!

1Wildheartsease · 18/04/2019 16:19

Sounds lovely notlostjustexploring :)

venusandmars · 18/04/2019 18:17

Thai green curry for dinner tonight. House smells amazing with lemongrass, coriander, ginger, garlic, coconut... Why would I want to dilute those gorgeous flavour with rice? 😋

Doilooklikeatourist · 18/04/2019 19:20

Slightly 😀overcooked pork shoulder steak tonight ( I forgot to turn the oven down. It’s a little tough )
Low carb cauli cheese , mushrooms and spinach
Very nice ( looks for teepee sticks )
DH has decided to low carb , so had the same as me , and now needs bread and cheese ( rolls eyes )

Planning a go at low carb bread / scones etc as I really need toast

SummerSazz · 18/04/2019 19:48

@m0therofdragons I'm fitting into old clothes now and it's fab Smile. My wardrobe goes from 10-18 Hmm

I've managed to stay on track this week and feeling good but 3 days of camping to navigate now.....

Have a fab Easter one and all SmileSmile

m0therofdragons · 19/04/2019 11:14

I really want to enjoy hot cross buns so I've decided to let myself and calorie count this weekend so I can enjoy Easter. I'm still of the opinion that this is now my woe so occasional planned deviation is fine. I'm now 10st 5lbs, which is 18lbs off since mid January. My current target is 10.3 but I'm thinking that under 10st is actually a possibility. I've not been under 10st since I had my twins 7.5 years ago! For the first time I actually feel like I can be me again!

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/04/2019 23:25

Easter is hard. I went to a posh chocolate shop for DH's bunny and the man was so horrified about this WOE that he gave me a free bar of very dark chocolate so I could still have some this weekend!

Pusher. Grin

m0therofdragons · 20/04/2019 00:43

Haha @MrsTerryPratchett that's brilliant. I have a Reece's peanut butter egg from my parents which is so bad I'll have to balance it out with just spinach leaves the rest of the weekend. I'm got to have to eat it in moderation... that will be a new one on me!

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/04/2019 05:10

Yeah, moderation is not my friend.

Doilooklikeatourist · 20/04/2019 08:42

Major victory , I have a leather belt from a Next skirt bought in about 1992 , have not been able to get the 2 ends to meet for many years
Success !

Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the line!
Doilooklikeatourist · 20/04/2019 09:04

And , yep , I’m no good at moderating either
Happy Easter weekend everyone 🐣

m0therofdragons · 20/04/2019 10:27

Love the dress and belt @Doilooklikeatourist

SummerSazz · 22/04/2019 07:20

5lbs put on camping 😩. Food was actually ok and I tried not to go too high fat as beer was definitely on the agenda. A lovely couple of days so I'm not going to regret it, just draw a line under it now.

Im hoping it's only temporary as period also arrived. Just need to not go 'fuck it' today. I'll be fine when I'm back at work tomorrow.

Hope everyone else is enjoying the beautiful weekend ☀️

tootstastic · 22/04/2019 07:36

Hi all

Lovely to catch up on the thread and boy do I need the encouragement.

Back from hols and I have to report my first fail since October. But what an epic fail It was! I ate whatever I wanted for a whole week. I kept thinking 'well you're on holiday, a little bit of what you fancy won't hurt, you'll get back to it'. What a disaster! I had a LOT of what I fancied. Turns out the binge monster in me is well and truly still alive. I daren't get on the scales yet, thought I'd give myself a week back at it (started back on Saturday) before I dare look at them.

At least I've learned a valuable lesson. It's complete abstinence for me for the foreseeable future. I've lost 4st 5lbs since October and I am not bloody giving up now, that binge monster can fuck right off!

littlebillie · 22/04/2019 10:07

With a few life blips I am way off plan. Any thoughts when the next camp will be. I need to lose a stone

Thanks @BIWI how was your holiday? Are you back?

This weekend is going well food wise. I have bronchitis and laryngitis which equals no appetite. I spent yesterday (hottest day of the year) in bed sleeping all day, up for 3 hours in the evening then slept all night. I've not felt that unwell for a long time. Functioning today but not great so dh is driving. Hoping to eat some Easter egg later but in moderation. Boot camp will be perfect timing to get strict and lose those last stubborn pounds.
