Morning all. Sorry for lateness of the thread.

Here's the spreadsheet

As the title says, only two more weeks left! But that still means there's time to shed a couple more pesky pounds.

Hope you all have a good week

Kite I could’ve written your post. Carb addiction is exactly what it is. Or more to the point sugar addiction plus being on the carb-glucose-insulin rollercoaster
I really recommend Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes. There’s actually nothing wrong with you (or me). We aren’t designed to eat those foods and our bodies are reacting just as they should

As for the cake - I just wouldn’t have any. I’m not ready to accept addicting substances back into my life yet. My Dds birthday is coming up so i has the same dilemma

Siameasy · 04/03/2019 12:07

What do people do when people physically place food right in your hands

Anything but eat it
Chuck it away
Give it away
Say you’re gluten intolerant
Hide it

They’d never put a fag in an ex smokers mouth would thy?

soloula · 04/03/2019 12:10

Kite and Siam I definitely think I'm carb addicted. Really hoping going low carb helps me deal with it as it was really starting to affect me. I'd tried WW and other low cal diets before but my problem is I can't just do 'a little bit'. I'm hoping going low carb will give me proper rules and help me just avoid the crap.

First proper weigh in as I use MFP and it's always been set up for a Monday and I'm 5lb down first week so I'll take that!

Siameasy · 04/03/2019 12:10

What about berries and whipped cream?
A blueberry and yoghurt smoothie?
But actually you don’t have to have anything
I’m not having my daughter’s cake either (even tho I will have made it so I know it’ll be nice😭). Hey ho. I might celebrate with a pork scratching.

ShagMeRiggins · 04/03/2019 12:13

So many of you with such great losses, both for the week, for bootcamp, and overall. Just know that you’re an inspiration to others who might be struggling, to KOKO. Wine

Notlostjustexploring · 04/03/2019 12:28

They’d never put a fag in an ex smokers mouth would thy?

That is a very, very good point. You are very right.

Siameasy · 04/03/2019 12:34

soloula I massively am and when I look back to childhood I was then too. And I see carb addicts all around, struggling, some with diabetes or clearly pre-diabetic.

“Everything in moderation”
There is no moderation with us

Well done on the loss!!

KiteMarked · 04/03/2019 12:39

" We aren’t designed to eat those foods and our bodies are reacting just as they should"

Wow, this has given me a whole new perspective. I have literally been operating under the assumption that there was something wrong with me, that I was weak or deficient. I need to read that book asap, because I deserve to think of myself as strong, healthy and functional. Wow.

MiniCooperLover · 04/03/2019 12:48

I'm not sure I did a good lunch. It was a packet of chopped up chicken and the carbs came from the chopped onions and peppers. I cooked it in olive oil but otherwise it was prob too low on fat?

venusandmars · 04/03/2019 13:00

I read that out ancient ancestors lived this way most of the time, and our bodies are designed to be using fats and protein for fuel and energy, alongside some leafy plants. The amazing thing is that we have a mechanism (insulin) to keep our blood sugar stable, even if once every couple of years the ancient tribe came across a honeycomb and gorged themselves for days.

However, what jolted me was that eating something sweet like honey happened maybe once a year, not once a week, or once a day, or once an hour! I find it mentally easier to think that I could have cake, but only extremely rarely, and to be glad that my body would have the mechanism to deal with it. The challenge is that we are in a metaphorical honey forest and our society has become used to continual gorging, forcing our bodies to be continually struggling to regulate blood sugar.

My particular challenge is savoury snacks, so cheese crisps, or crispy chicken skin are my treat.

@Notlostjustexploring thank you - that was a lovely thing for you to say! Flowers

4 pound loss. Resisted the bottle of prosecco in the fridge. And watched the dairy. Simply cannot get used to the idea that I can eat bacon and mayonnaise and lose, but not milk! DH finds it hysterical me avoiding fruit but asking if he can get another vat of mayonnaise and brick of butter.

Away for work this week so we will see. I won't have scales and I'm a daily weigher. Worried about boredom and tiredness leading me to alcohol and carbs. Dreading today. I'm flying for hours and I've checked the in flight menu and there is nothing. AT ALL. So my plan is to get something at Starbucks before I get on the plane and something else when I land and just not eat on the plane. I've done 24 hour fasts before so if all else fails...

KiteMarked · 04/03/2019 15:47

Good luck, Mrs. In your situation, I have resorted to snacky things like small bags of various nuts, cubed cheese, and when really strapped, boxes of sugar free lemon sherbets from Aldi. Fizzy water and chewing gum, too. It's not the best by a long shot, but it's better than many alternatives.

BrassicaBabe · 04/03/2019 15:59

Thanks for the new thread BIWI

I was in line to STS but yesterday's doner meat has caused a little bounce up. So I'm not entering weight until tomorrow. I've had a day on the road too so I'm using that as a platform for a 24 hour fast. We'll see...

Iamnotacerealkiller · 04/03/2019 16:31

@KiteMarked

I second (third?) this!

I suspect that an awful lot of modern society's ills are at least partially a result of the modern diet. Cancer, diabetes, obesity, heart disease (yes!!), dimentia have all been linked with a carby, processed diet to a lesser or greater extent. Do you know that a ketogenic diet is used to treat those with epilepsy? some Infertility can be improved with a low carb diet.

its not that we are treating these illnesses with a low carb diet, it is that we are slowly poisoning ourselves with a high carb diet! SAD (standard american diet) is well named.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 04/03/2019 16:33

I would be curious to know if low carbing has an effect on any mental health conditions e.g. depression. Carbs throw your hormones out of whack so i wouldn't be surprised. will have a google.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 04/03/2019 16:35

wow incredibly mixed results when i googled, almost literally alternating positive/negative. Lots saying well low carbing will obvs make you hangry...

tootstastic · 04/03/2019 16:59

@Notlostjustexploring it certainly can...high five back!

I'm hoping that eventually I'll be able to say yes to the odd bit of birthday cake, or eat out and be able to eat the potatoes/carby veg or whatever comes with the meal. But I don't feel strong enough just yet. I'm just praying that my maintenance brain will allow me to do this without ruining it all.

@Iamnotacerealkiller I used to get very hangry before this woe...not had a hangry episode in months, funny that Grin Before this, I was definitely someone who could be described as a carb addict.

MrsTerryPratcett · 04/03/2019 17:03

Thanks Kite I think snacks might be the answer!

toot I think maintenance is like the beginning of Bootcamp or a new WOE. It looks to be 'easy' but is actually a whole new big challenge. And should be treated like that.

Mimosa1 · 04/03/2019 17:03

Well, I made lemon posset today and it's delicious but OMg the calories. It's something like 1500 in 300ml if double cream, j made 2 ramekins and had half one before idly looking at the nutritional info. I know we don't look at calories but definitely one to ration. Delicious though!!!

Doilooklikeatourist · 04/03/2019 17:25

Didn’t get a chance to weigh in this morning , so will update the spread sheet tomorrow
Making myself a roast belly pork with a bit of hot chilli for dinner , with cauliflower, mushrooms , courgettes and spinach as my veg ( might chuck some cream in , see how it looks )
( DH is having steak and chips )

twinkledag · 04/03/2019 17:37

Well done to all the losers and wow @tootstastic, amazing what you've achieved!!

The No Cream of Chicken soup is great from Pret. Also salad bars are good for chicken, Halloumi and salad/veg. I think EAT now do a chicken and avo salad although unsure of the carb count.

As for me, another good day -

Greek yoghurt, coffee
Soup
Prob fish and veg for dinner

Iamnotacerealkiller · 04/03/2019 18:39

Aaaahhh! just rewarded my weight loss with an indian takeaway! Also fasted all of today so have been looking forward to it!

Had, mixed kebab with salad, paneer with veggies, cauliflower bhaji and aubergine bhaji! Totally stuffed and have enough for lunch tomorrow. ugg having to lean back to make room for my stomach!

Siameasy · 04/03/2019 18:47

Kite the Taubes book is full of “scales falling from the eyes” moments. As is Groves’ “Trick and Treat”. But what set me off originally was Brightlines Eating-she comes at it from an addict’s perspective. She was an ex drug addict who then moved to food.

I thought the same as you. Why do I feel tired? Why am I bloated?! Why can’t I eat bread without taking Gaviscon?!

Looking back I learned to use carbs to comfort myself at secondary school. I went to a selective school and found myself out of my depth and so anxious. I would eat 10 bags of crisps in a row and in secret. Of course you get a “hit” off them.

Our metabolisms are damaged yes but because of the carb addiction.

Siameasy · 04/03/2019 18:50

venus that’s really interesting the once a year theory. Cos I’m sure when I was a kid (70s/80s) things like cake was only birthdays. Puddings only on a Sunday. You might get a Coke a few times a year. If we could go back to that I think maybe we’d be ok. But it’s “treats” constantly now, it’s insane!
