Morning all. Sorry for lateness of the thread.

Here's the spreadsheet

As the title says, only two more weeks left! But that still means there's time to shed a couple more pesky pounds.

Hope you all have a good week

The alleged 24hr fast lasted until just now as I felt so tired and actually felt genuinely hungry. But the weird thing was I still wasn’t craving carbs despite the fact that I was out and about and carbs are everywhere

I brought a sausage casserole into work plus a rocket salad with Parmesan and walnuts. I was craving that and it tasted so so good!! I’m still a bit hungry tho...will have a cuppa.

Doilooklikeatourist · 06/03/2019 18:04

I’m making this for dinner , will add more greens , and give DH some potatoes on the side
salmon and cauliflower

RobinHobb · 06/03/2019 18:26

What's this about fasting? How does it work? I'm considering it to bring about Ketosis
Still no sign of anything on those blooming sticks; and I don't feel the usual symptoms I do.
On the brighter side I'm feeling a lot better and energetic and I think sleeping better which I think is due to no wine!

BIWI · 06/03/2019 18:35

@RobinHobb - if you're just starting Bootcamp then you shouldn't be thinking about fasting. Read the rules!

Also, if you're drinking the amount of water you should be (see rule 6) then the ketostix won't show anything beyond pale pink anyway.

Ok! I've read them but I'll read them again. I haven't weighed myself yet, but I just feel like nothing is happening - which seems vindicated by the sticks. And I thought fasting would help kick start it. But I'll just stick to what I'm doing now. think I expect results too fast and that's why I haven't lost this extra weight I've been carrying around for a decade. Thanks

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 06/03/2019 18:52

😄 @tooltastic

StuntNun · 06/03/2019 18:54

RobinHobb if you're new to low carb then the extra weeing will stop once you've adjusted. If you've been low carbing for a while then adding electrolytes can stop you needing to pee at night.

AandL · 06/03/2019 18:55

Good day so far, no carbs, alcohol or sugar, but not enough water...
Just a creamy coffee in the morning
Lunch was 3 leftover meatballs, I binned the pasta, with melted cheese and salad. Courgette soup.
Some nuts and coffee with cream in afternoon
Steak and salad for dinner.

Going to make some LC bread now so might have a taste test later

BrassicaBabe · 06/03/2019 19:07

Def don't bother with the sticks @RobinHobb if you are drinking lots of water. They won't show anything useful. And I still have to wee in the night if I forget my water and end up drinking all of it between 6pm and 10pm Hmm

Another fast day for me because I've been busy. Although by way or confession I only manage these by drinking a lot of Diet Coke. (A habit of many many years and I'm as sure as I possibly can be that my body doesn't react to the artificial sweetener)

Dinner is a fab lamb curry made with fatty shoulder. I hoping that the onions and tinned toms don't add up to much.

Will that 1lb stay off I ask myself!

(New contract has arrived. Out to Germany Tuesday night! Hoping for some easy LC meals)

Mimosa1 · 06/03/2019 19:08

Today was not a good day for me either. I am carrying on posting to keep me accountable and shall weigh tomorrow to assess the damage. I let myself get too hungry while I was travelling - I'm not able to fast but admire the willpower of those who do. Im back home with a fridge stocked with LC food so onwards.

MrsKoala · 06/03/2019 19:10

I'm having my dinner now (poached smoked haddock with a poached egg topped with melted butter with green beans and broccoli) and then will try a 16:8 fast again. I think it might be the key to get me lower into the 11s. i'm now at a bmi of 23.8 so it's getting harder to lose the weight. I've lost nearly 11lb now but only 1 inch off my waist.

Siameasy · 06/03/2019 19:38

My fasting was/is more for convenience as in if i know I’ll be forced to eat too early (by virtue of them changing my shifts at work) I may as well fast. But it’s a planned fast and I will have eaten reasonably late the night before.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 06/03/2019 20:02

Somehow have gotten away with a relatively carby meal. went out to one of my fav cafes and they do a really excellent plates of three salads and hummus. the problems is the three salads is a leafy one, a carroty one and a lentil/bulgar wheat one. i also ate 3 milk tray chocolates afterwards. not really sure why tbh. this was after an enourmous indian takeaway (low carb but much more then i would normally eat) the evening before and the following breakfast.

48 hours later however when i weighed this morning i was only half a pound up? My cravings have not returned and i still feel like i'm in ketosis, is this true fat adaption? that you can have a few extra carbs and your body can deal with them in a healthy way? , perhaps i didn't eat enough carbs to 'overflow' my liver and increase my blood sugar to the extent that insulin was required...

Im guessing if i had had a load of bread or something this would be a different story

Been doing lots of intermittent fasting by skipping meals here and there, usually breakfast but still. Is this what thin people feel like all the time? not that fussed about food?

I have seen in various reading that low carbing can 'fix' insulin resistance as it allows your system to regenerate, obviously it will break again if you eat how you did...

Doilooklikeatourist · 06/03/2019 20:12

Update on the salmon and cauli
Was bloody lovely
I’ll put it on the recipe thread

BrassicaBabe · 06/03/2019 20:33

Haha @Doilooklikeatourist I was popping back to say how fab my lamb curry is. I am a master! (It had loads of spinach in it too for extra brownie points! Grin)

MrsKoala · 06/03/2019 20:42

Those of you who do 16:8 do you do it every day or a couple of times week? Is there a frequency you should fast for best effects?

Doilooklikeatourist · 06/03/2019 20:52

@BrassicaBabe I added spinach too ( 😀)

SummerSazz · 06/03/2019 21:18

I was down to +1 after my +6 on sat but have had some wine tonight at a work event so probably reversed that again

I love curries and find they are the best flavoursome low carb meal. And love spinach too. It's my rice/spaghetti substitute

m0therofdragons · 06/03/2019 21:22

Sorry for huge delay. It's been a seriously difficult challenging week. I'm convinced my scales are broken as they are reading 10st 11lbs.

I've not been 100% on plan so really hoped to maintain but 3lbs loss instead. I should be delighted but still think they're broken.

venusandmars · 06/03/2019 21:27

@mimosa1 for me, fasting is not about willower. Willpower was the old 'feeling hungry' 'feeling deprived' stuff of old style dieting. On this woe, I don't actually feel hungry in the morning, and that is an amazing shock to me!!

Sometimes my head (and nose) tells me that I want toast and marmalade [because my dh is eating that] but when I actually listen to my body I am fine with a cup rooibos tea, and maybe half an avocado.

@Iamnotacerealkiller I think we are all slightly different, we are our own experiment, and we all tolerate carbs to a different extent. However this approach is about low carb and high fat. The high fat is great - butter, bacon, cheese etc. The combination of high fat, plus veg is fabulous. But 'carb creep' is the challenge.

And extra carbs, plus high fat, is a recipe for weight gain.

AandL · 06/03/2019 22:00

Made bread and little 'rolls' this evening

Week 8 - Low Carb Bootcamp - only two more weeks ... **Thread title edited by MNHQ**
venusandmars · 06/03/2019 22:05

Ooh AandL share the recipe...

Dia12 · 06/03/2019 23:27

I second that! Looks delicious.

I recently tried bread from low carb megastore - a bit pricey and on the small side but actually tasted reasonably good for something that's under 5g carb per slice.

StuntNun · 07/03/2019 06:52

MrsKoala you need three 16-hour fasts a week to get results. I go by how hungry I am. If I wake up hungry then it isn't a fast day. If you're just starting with intermittent fasting then you can start with 14-hour fasts and work your way up. If you're new to low carb then it's worth waiting until the end of Bootcamp to start experimenting with fasting as the full adaption process can take 6 weeks or longer. It does depend on your natural eating habits. If you were used to skipping breakfast before Bootcamp then you may find you aren't really hungry in the morning anyway so fasting isn't a problem. And of course there's no need to fast at all for those that don't think it will work for them or aren't interested. My DH often has to work through lunch so skipping breakfast would be a disaster for him. I work from home so I have complete flexibility if I want to have breakfast at 10:30 or wait until lunchtime.

StuntNun · 07/03/2019 07:09

Can I add a word of caution on the low carb breads. I find they don't work for me as anything fibre-rich like coconut flour or flaxseed makes me very bloated with a tummy ache. Almond flour isn't as bad for bloating but is very calorie-dense. So maybe save them for a treat rather than have them frequently. If you don't want to bake them yourself then the LivLife low carb bread freeze it and only defrost one slice at a time and Lo Dough are good ready-made low carb options.
