Week 6 - Low Carb Bootcamp - it's all downhill from here!

BIWI · 18/02/2019 08:14

Morning losers!

Here's the spreadsheet

So we start the second half of Bootcamp. By now, hopefully you're in the swing of things, and the scales and/or the tape measure are showing good results.

Keep focused. Keep your eye on what you're eating - it's all too easy to become a bit complacent, relax and let the carbs creep back in.

Keep up the water (you are drinking enough, aren't you?!) and make sure that you're eating lots of fat and getting your carbs from vegetables and salad.

But above all - good luck!

@AthelstaneTheUnready - I really would like a new bed too, but can't find what I want - so for the moment I'm going for just the mattress. We've had ours for longer than I care to think Blush so it's definitely time to change it!!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 19/02/2019 18:44

Blush my mattress is over 20 years old and used to accommodate an extremely heavy husband. As you can imagine, it's shaped rather like a bowl now, is murder on the back, and needs climbing out of the sides in the morning. Unfortunately it's superking size, and I want to get a double bed, so can't just replace the mattress.

Bungalowbeth · 19/02/2019 18:57

Sadly a pound on this week, I ate out five times though and there was wine too. Managed to just about stay in ketosis!

I’m being a hermit this week!

BrassicaBabe · 19/02/2019 20:10

I've had some lo-dough delivered. FB made me do it Blush They are wrap type shape things. 2.6g carbs per wrap thing. Anyone have a view on them?

Iamnotacerealkiller · 19/02/2019 20:12

@Hefzi

I also am historically a terrible sleeper, just couldn't switch off. I find that if i miss my window to go to bed then i wake up again and then its hours before i can sleep. I think i saw a doc about what you are talking about Hefzi, it was about preserving your bedroom as a sleeping space. You don't do anything else there so no screens, reading etc. if you arn't sleeping you get up and move rooms so you don't associate the room with not sleeping.

They managed to cure an insomniac by limiting the hours he was allowed in bed, kind of similar to intermittent fasting so was only allowed to try and sleep from midnight to 6am or something. worked within a few days.

I have lost the gained pound and another half after a massive toilet session this morning! Thats 8 since the start which im fine with. i seem to have a new attitude this time round which is just much more relaxed. i think it helps that im not tracking everything and have no deadline for weight loss so my expectations are not so high. still weighing everyday but that's to keep an eye on things.

I've also cracked the food i think and have some very quick and delicious recipes that i make for dinner for me and OH. lunch is a pre-prepared delicious soup and breakfast is also easy, either boiled egg or yoghurt with granola. I have found one hurdle with LC is that its hard to just have a lazy day because the lack of much lc convenience food and some time you CBA to cook and things then seem to slip for me even though i love cooking usually.

By doing the above i am limiting the amount of time cooking which makes things simpler (plus reduced the neverending washing up).

1stMrsF · 19/02/2019 20:17

Another half term day, another meal out... Feeling the effects today of wine last night. Definitely makes me feel a bit low blood sugar and carb craving the next day. Resisted the urge to slip into holiday everyday-drinking mode but still struggling with enough water. Managed a good litre at lunch and another this afternoon so better than the last few days, but definitely find that challenging when not at work.

B - creamy coffee
L - beef carpaccio with rocket and Parmesan and pork saltimbocca with mushroom sauce and tender stem broccoli
D - hm moussaka with kale and spring greens

I have been sleeping better lately, I think due to a NSV - DH says I'm not snoring!

SummerSazz · 19/02/2019 20:18

Evening all.

I sleep ok but have a lovely (albeit old) mattress and am permanently shattered! Working +7 'active' hours a week (Pilates, walking, running, swimming) seems to knock me out. I suspect I'm low on iron so that may help - with sleeping not feeling knackered .

@BrassicaBabe I tend to steer clear of things trying to be something they aren't so no experience of low carb manufactured food I'm afraid. I do love the 'clean eating' element of LCHF - makes me feel virtuous Grin. Especially with the 97 glasses of water.....

Day 10 of no alcohol. Weight staying off ok after 4lb loss reported on mon. No exercise since yesterday's sparrows fart Pilates so need to get back on that to continue the downward trend.

NSV today. Someone at work told me I was looking skinny.
Now, as I'm still in the overweight BMI category I'm certainly not skinny but relative to where I was I'm definitely slimmer. 12lbs off since end Nov when I started.

nowlook · 19/02/2019 21:54

@Doilooklikeatourist
I'll be having that chicken Alfredo tomorrow. Something I have all the ingredients for, so thanks!

I feel a bit guilty, because I sleep the sleep of the dead. Nothing wakes me. Not helpful, I know. I would like a new mattress though....

Did badly on water and general balance of food today, so will kick myself up the backside tomorrow.

venusandmars · 19/02/2019 21:59

I'm away from home and resisting all temptation, so far.
I brought nutty granola with me to eat at breakfast with Greek Yogurt. Plus a few berries.
L - salad, avocado, dairylee cheese triangle
D - minestrone soup (I left the pasta), frittata (picked out the potato) and cheese

So far today I have resisted banana on toast, homemade chocolate cake, lemon cheesecake, vegetarian bean burgers, hummus, and an assortment of biscuits and fruit.

BIWI · 19/02/2019 22:13

Well done @venusandmars - great willpower there Smile

@BrassicaBabe - I bought some Lo-Dough as well. Because it's made from konjac flour it's a bit more 'real' than some of the fake low carb stuff I've seen.

I thought it was OK, but expensive. I only tried it one way, but would be interested in trying again to make a pizza base or quiche with it.

I used it to make a bacon sandwich, making it like wrap - but it was just a bit too thick for that, although I quite enjoyed it.

I think it might work more for something like fajitas, or a wrap with a 'wetter' filling, possibly something like tuna mayo with lettuce. But the price is a bit off-putting!

@SummerSazz 7 active hours per week is amazing! You just be so fit. I never made it to my first exercise class in yonks went cost shopping instead and really want to do better.

I think 2 children in 3 years ruined my sleep. THEY now sleep through the night, but until very recently (combined with a tricky situation at work) meant that I very rarely had an unbroken night. I still get that "wow, I didn't wake up in the night" thought on the nights I sleep through which I never did before my forays into insomnia. The only thing that uses to help me was lying there and saying to myself "it's ok if you're not sleeping, you're still resting your body and your muscles and you'll feel ok tomorrow for it".

Im beginning to think another 2.8 kg off might be possible this BC, which means I'd be able to JUST make it into a normal bmi.
Hope I've not jinxed things...

Thanks again for all your help @BIWI

Mimosa1 · 19/02/2019 22:43

Aaargh posts really need an edit button! Went COAT shopping instead.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 20/02/2019 08:15

Damage from my family away days was an increase of 3.2lbs as of yesterday morning. I did have too much to drink on one evening, I also had a pudding, a few squares of nutty milk chocolate and some new potatoes. Other than that I did quite well considering. This morning's weigh in I'm back down to being a pound up from last week's weigh in so hopefully by Monday I will be back to where I was so not too much damage.

I think I need to stop the dairy. So hard though as this means eggs for breakfast (not keen on bacon and can't do sausage in the morning - snigger) everyday and then plain meat (can't do spicy at the moment) with buttery veg for my two other meals with no snacks. Not much fun.

I too am rubbish light sleeper. The fatter I am the better I sleep which is a total pain.

BrassicaBabe · 20/02/2019 08:28

Could have been worse Mimosa it could have been goat shopping Smile

So my mid morning weight of yesterday didn't hang around. It was indeed dehydration. I have shifted 2lb since Monday. But that just puts me back to where I was this time last week. (Hmmmight enter today's weight as my entry for this week though)

Going to stick with the fasting regime today if my jobs allow. That is, if I can keep busy enough. But rather than more left over roast lamb (if really was a big joint Grin) I might have a try with lo-dough pizza.

1stMrsF · 20/02/2019 08:31

Arrrggh scales showing another increase this morning! Am trying really hard but not managing to drink enough water, and because of eating out probably eating bigger portions as well as possible hidden carbs. Plus eating later and eating breakfast a few times means no 16h fasts - I think that was really helping me before. Doesn't help that I've no lemons for my hot water - that keeps me going through no breakfast usually.

Out for lunch today but have planned chicken fajita salad, will get a really big bottle of fizzy water and aim to drink two 500ml water bottles before that. Have a good day everyone!

m0therofdragons · 20/02/2019 08:53

DD's birthday is today and my aim was under 11st by then. Scales were teasing but settled on 10 13 so skin of my teeth but I did it. Next target is back to healthy bmi by my birthday (31 March), so need to lose 6 lbs in 5 weeks. Possible but no room for blips.

Convinced myself that I don't need treats just because it's dds birthday and a treat would actually be weight loss!

I was planning to allow myself chocolate yesterday(I'm a massive chocoholic!) but ended up having cheese as I didn't fancy chocolate Shockalso pleased I was able to have a panini without causing disaster. Not to happen too regularly though!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 20/02/2019 09:18

Well done @m0therofdragons Smile

I am having scales troubles too. I weigh myself at my exercise class and today I was up 1.3lb. But all my NSVs are telling me different unless I am deluded

Mimosa1 · 20/02/2019 09:24

@m0therofdragons congratulations on hitting your goal.

A gain for me in the scales today - boo - and back to where I was in Monday. Also had a horrendous night's sleep - karma for saying my sleep issues had got better earlier in the thread! A pair of amorous foxes were making the most unbelievable racket in the garden - they shrieked for ages.

WhatTheFronti · 20/02/2019 10:26

Hello all!
Am another terrible sleeper! I am definitely a night owl - feel energised and brain ticks over nonstop in the night. Shame about having to be a functioning adult during the day otherwise I'd be fine!
Have had a 200g loss this week - not massive but did have wine on the weekend (not a lot but some!) and some 85% dark choc.
Since Christmas I Have lost 5 inches off waist (thrilled!), 3 off hips and 2 off my boobs (less thrilled but it's ok, being a G cup I ve got some excess 😂) so happy to be regaining some shape again!
I am loving this WOE!!

m0therofdragons · 20/02/2019 10:30

Thank you @Mimosa1 I'm quite short so realistically I have some way to go but mini goals seem to keep me going in the right direction.

Doilooklikeatourist · 20/02/2019 10:33

Had a mid week weigh , and I’ve put on 3 lb since Monday !
I know I haven’t done much walking , and I’m keeping topped up on ibuprofen ( injured toe which hurts like mad )
Grrr
So , no cream or cheese for a number of days , and hope that sorts me out
I’m going on holiday on April 28th , no pressure🌞

m0therofdragons · 20/02/2019 10:59

Loads of time @Doilooklikeatourist just make every week count.

Rshard · 20/02/2019 12:40

Congrats @m0therofdragons!

Your holiday is a great incentive @doilooklikeatourist. How’s it going with cutting the cream and cheese, think I’m going to follow suit. It’s too easy to grab a bit of cheese from the fridge

lurknolinger · 20/02/2019 14:47

Congrats MotherOfDragons, sounds like you have all the motivation you need to stay focused and hit your next targets.
*
DoIlooklikeatourist* I had a similar injury a while back. If the pain you are in is caused by pressure i.e. the blood blister behind the toe nail, you should get it drained by piercing the nail to let the blood out. Mine was really painful but once that was done it was much better. Of course your pain may be from a different cause, so please ignore if that's the case. Smile

Imnotacerealkiller would you mind listing your quick and easy meal options please, any ideas of meals that don't take too long to prepare would be gratefully received!

BIWI · 20/02/2019 14:51

Well new mattress has arrived! Hopefully will sleep well. Had a dreadful night last night, so I better had.
