Week 6 - Low Carb Bootcamp - it's all downhill from here!

BIWI · 18/02/2019 08:14

Morning losers!

Here's the spreadsheet

So we start the second half of Bootcamp. By now, hopefully you're in the swing of things, and the scales and/or the tape measure are showing good results.

Keep focused. Keep your eye on what you're eating - it's all too easy to become a bit complacent, relax and let the carbs creep back in.

Keep up the water (you are drinking enough, aren't you?!) and make sure that you're eating lots of fat and getting your carbs from vegetables and salad.

But above all - good luck!

How are you today @AandL?

Mimosa1 · 18/02/2019 19:29

Ha @AandL i woke up twice last night to pee - it must be what having a dicky prostate is like as an older man.

Notlostjustexploring · 18/02/2019 19:56

I seem to be another pound down, so definitely pleased, especially when I consider the total off.

Bit of a niche question. I'm currently breastfeeding, and finding weight isn't coming off as fast as it had in the past when I low carbed before, or indeed calorie counted. I've already worked out that the "oh, breastfeeding makes the weight just melt off" is bollocks, but is there any science to suggest that it is harder for my body to shed weight?

Hefzi · 18/02/2019 20:07

@tootstastic Thank you so much for the boost last week (only just caught up with the thread today Blush) - very helpful and much appreciated!

No change her, but travelling for work so it's different scales - and I know I'm not drinking anywhere near enough. That's largely because I'm somewhere lavatories are in short supply, though, and I'm fed up of the crowd I attract whenever I attempt to use my SheWee in the middle of nowhere Grin I'm away until next weekend, so I'll be happy if I stay the same next week too. I'm in a carb-heavy area from a veggie perspective, so I'm grateful for my stash of macadamia nuts a la Venus!

Oh-and I might not have lost - but for the first time in years, I didn't need the Seatbelt of Shame: possibly just KLM, but I'm choosing to thank Boot Camp!

BrassicaBabe · 18/02/2019 20:14

I'll post last weeks menus tomorrow for some in depth BIWI analysis tomorrow if that's ok. (Will be in a better position to cut and paste) If I use my own insight I'd say wine Friday and Saturday (and only those!) plus on-plan eating but portions too big on Saturday did it! But honestly this is far harder than this time last year. I now weigh a tad more than then too. It's like my evil body has gone "mwahahaha I know your plan now and I'm going to do my best to thwart you!"

Honestly I had 7 days off over Xmas. Put on 7lb. And all but 3-4 of the feckers are still hanging around Shock Let alone the 4lbs I'd creep that stuck on in Dec. November was the last time I was happy with my weight.

But today I've managed a 24 hour fast again. It's not too bad when I'm busy. There was talk on DDoc that fasting is helpful to get past a stall etc. But we've just had a massive lamb roast dinner. So I hope I haven't blown in with 1) excess calories overall 2) stall inducing dairy filled cauli cheese Hmm and the 4 half apricots I pinched from the apricot crumple which of course contained sugar. Twonk!

SummerSazz · 18/02/2019 20:18

Reported my 4lb loss this week earlier and said there was a backstory - I've been down mid week a fair amount but after weekends was pretty static. Not drinking since last sat has reflected in this mon weigh in. It's a stark reminder of what alcohol does for me. I rarely fall off plan on food so is all pesky alcohol.

Also my resting heart rate is down at 59 and staying there rather than bouncing up into mid 60's. Most definitely healthier......

tootstastic · 18/02/2019 20:18

You're very welcome @hefzi and congrats on the seatbelt, bet that felt good! Lolling at the shewee now considering a catheter Grin

BrassicaBabe · 18/02/2019 20:19

Ooh, where are you hefzi? It sounds intriguing. Never tried a she-wee though. Bet it's like bad yoga!

MrsKoala · 18/02/2019 20:41

I’m not sure what’s wrong with me this bc. I’ve checked my measurements and they are still the same. Last 2 bc’s I wasn’t this sensitive to changes and the scales kept dropping. Is it true it’s because I am now over 40!? Shock

Livelongandprosper · 18/02/2019 21:02

Having read on this thread about changing shape more than the scales might suggest, I'm nipping upstairs now to try on a dress I haven't been able to wear for a few years. If I don't come back, I'm still stuck in the dress somewhere in West Sussex and you will need to send help.

BrassicaBabe · 18/02/2019 21:08

Rooting for you Live!

BIWI · 18/02/2019 21:20

As the only person here who knows where you live, @Livelongandprosper you'd better text me if you get stuck! Grin

Some mixed results overall being reported. Well done those of you who are seeing the weight come off, even if it slow.

@BrassicaBabe I feel your pain, so will have a good look at what you post tomorrow.

But overall, it's fair to say that alcohol and portion sizes (and possibly dairy) are the things that keep being mentioned in relation to gains/no losses.

Remember - all the time you're drinking alcohol, you're preventing your body from burning fat. It will simply be burning the alcohol.

Portion sizes are definitely worth keeping an eye on; I read this recently:

We eat off of big plates. Since 1960 the overall surface area of an average dinner plate has increased 36 percent. The average dinner plate we commonly use today measures 11 or 12 inches across. A few decades ago plates measured 7 to 9 inches.

from www.eatouteatwell.com

And it's really worth seeing if dairy is an issue for you. Butter doesn't count, but consider a couple of days without milk, cream, yoghurt and cheese and see if that makes any difference.

Other things to consider if you're not losing:

  • poor sleep
  • stress
  • citric acid
  • ibuprofen

Apparently all these can impede weight loss. (No idea why citric acid and ibuprofen do, but the first two are about hormone problems, mainly to do with cortisol I think)

BrassicaBabe · 18/02/2019 21:30

Stress BIWI! Biggest difference and correlation between good/bad weight at the moment is that I was made redundant in August. Getting back hasn't quite gone to plan. And oh the irony that not losing is adding to my stress Hmm

BrassicaBabe · 18/02/2019 21:31

Live?!! Do we need to break the glass on the emergency scissors?!

Livelongandprosper · 18/02/2019 21:32

I got into the dress! No need to send out the rescue parties, I managed to get it off again too without feeling like I was stripping the skin off a sausage Grin

Livelongandprosper · 18/02/2019 21:37

I appreciate Brassica and BIWI being prepared to break out the rescue scissors and generally looking out for my safety at such a tense time

BIWI · 18/02/2019 21:40
Grin

Yes @BrassicaBabe - it's not fair, is it?

The other one that always gets me is sleep. Over the last couple of years I've developed a really bad relationship with sleep and it irritates the hell out of me when I read articles telling me I need to sleep better. Of course I do! If only someone could tell my brain that, so that it will actually turn itself off and get to sleep I'd be very grateful!

OP posts:
SummerSazz · 18/02/2019 22:01

@BIWI mine is definitely the water too as well as alcohol. I've been really good with water this week and previously when I've had an unexpected fall I realise I've chugged masses of water the day before.

Doilooklikeatourist · 18/02/2019 22:45

Oh no!
I’m back on the ibuprofen as I dropped a catering size chopping board last Friday and it landed on my big toe
The pain and swelling is awful , so I’m taking the pain tablets and rubbing gel on my poor toe
Can’t fit normal shoes on still
I’m stressed at work and sleeping badly too ( watching Walking Dead now , that’s not going to help at all is it 😀)

Dia12 · 18/02/2019 23:29

Hi everyone, just checking in. I was so elated last week as I seemed to have dropped 2lbs but today's scales were showing I was up 2lbs and back at last Monday's weight 😩 super annoyed as I've been eating well and being quite disciplined generally but it think it could be the following:

  • started up at the gym again (3 classes so far) so muscles causing water retention
  • fallen short on water intake over a busy weekend
  • trouble sleeping (I've always had trouble getting a good nights sleep).
  • had 2 spoonfuls of a dessert that was almost force fed to me (honest!)

Besides that I can't think of what else is causing me to yo-yo. I checked my ketone levels today and blood ketone were 2.4mmol/l which I was quite impressed with, just wish it would reflect on the scales.
I don't want to jinx myself but this is the longest I've stuck to a disciplined way of eating (or at least the longest time I've gone without sugar/carbs)....so yay!

Dia12 · 18/02/2019 23:32

Oh also, @AthelstaneTheUnready, if you get the chance could you perhaps have a look at the auto fill numbers on my row, they don't make any sense to me? Thanks!

wasabiaddiction · 19/02/2019 07:51

I am generally lurking and not tracking in the spreadsheet. So just wanted to thank BIWI for all her efforts.

I am down a Total of 13lb off since 5 Jan.

And now 226lb.

Long way to go. Think I need to stick to this WOE for the whole of 2019 and see where I get to

MrsFionaCharming · 19/02/2019 08:43

Well I cut dairy yesterday, and dropped a whole lb overnight!

Plus I tried on my favourite dress and it zips up for the first time in 2 years! I’m wearing it to uni today even though it’s far too summery for the weather.

Siameasy · 19/02/2019 08:44

Notlostjustexploring
Re BF it would make sense that your body would hold onto extra fat as from what I’ve read it is using it to produce the milk
I did a bootcamp lite type thing when I BFd. I was 3m post partum what are you?
I did 100-150g carbs a day and I was allowed whole fruit and dark choc within the limits so it was much less strict but I lost on that-all four stone of it. It came off very quick at first but then slowed right down as it always does. Have you got a lot to lose? I’m lucky to lose a lb every two weeks now really. Don’t forget measurements.

ilovecherries · 19/02/2019 08:44

I haven’t weighed this week as I’m having a week of post-surgery recovery where I’m just focusing on eating what I feel able to. I know he took 8 lbs off, and I don’t want to not see that when I step on the scales simply because I’m still retaining a lot of fluid from the op, and I had shit loads of IV dextrose as I couldn’t lift my head without puking for three days. My appetite isn’t great yet, so I’m getting by on scrambled eggs and the odd slice of sourdough. However, I’m home, feeling amazingly well now and spending a lot of time posing in front of the mirror :). And as you are my people you will understand the absolute lightness of being I’m am currently experiencing having had a very satisfactory toilet experience for the first time since Wednesday Shock Blush Grin.
