Week 6 - Low Carb Bootcamp - it's all downhill from here!

BIWI · 18/02/2019 08:14

Morning losers!

Here's the spreadsheet

So we start the second half of Bootcamp. By now, hopefully you're in the swing of things, and the scales and/or the tape measure are showing good results.

Keep focused. Keep your eye on what you're eating - it's all too easy to become a bit complacent, relax and let the carbs creep back in.

Keep up the water (you are drinking enough, aren't you?!) and make sure that you're eating lots of fat and getting your carbs from vegetables and salad.

But above all - good luck!

Well done to all
I was 10.1 this morning so I’ve lost 10lb since NYE. I’m in my BMI now and weight loss is very slow which I expect. I’m hoping to be in the nines in 2 weeks

As of 25th I’m eating only meat for a week as an experiment. I definitely feel dairy affecting me and even berries and the starchier vegetables too. Even finding myself becoming obsessed with green veg and getting a “hit” off of them.

Doilooklikeatourist · 19/02/2019 09:09

@ilovecherries 👍

tootstastic · 19/02/2019 09:17

Huge congrats on the new boobs @ilovecherries! It's a massive op, so you're doing the right thing taking it easy this week. Those 8lbs will show on the scales I'm sure once your body settles down. Enjoy your new look!

Mine on the other hand seem to be looking a bit deflated since I lost weight. Definitely smaller, but disappointingly also kind of emptier. Look a lot better with a bra on though, much less spillage in the village.

samii1989 · 19/02/2019 09:49

Morning! I just wanted to ask if anyone else periods have gone a bit messed up whilst being on low carb?? I was due over a week ago,but nothing!! I'm definitely not pregnant lol and I wouldn't say I'm stressed or anything. I've lost 20 pounds since 1st Jan,could that rapid weightloss have caused .y periods to go AWOL? I'm normally every 28 days without fail. Been feeling cramps and had PMS all week but nothing yet

jellycatspyjamas · 19/02/2019 10:20

I know last time my cycle was definitely affected. I’m not sure if it’s low carbing, weight loss or a combination of both but my cycle changed slightly and, thankfully, my pms improved hugely and my period was both lighter and less painful. Makes me wonder why I went back to my carby ways.

tootstastic · 19/02/2019 10:24

@samii1989 yes my periods are a bit all over the place, mid-month bleeding and then a huge gap. It happened last time I tried low carbing too. I think I read that it was because fat cells contained oestrogen, which is released into the bloodstream as you lose the fat. Not sure if that's true, as it was only on Dr.Google.

BIWI · 19/02/2019 10:57

That's certainly the explanation I've heard before @tootstastic. Re the boobs, if you're a gym goer (or considering going to the gym) look into exercises that will develop muscle tone around your chest - that will help keep the boobs perkier!

Glad to hear your recovery is going well @ilovecherries

Joining the thread now it's a bit lighter

@ilovecherries glad you're recovering. Be kind to yourself, it's a big op so let your body take time.

Yesterday I went for lunch and planned to have an omelette. They'd run out of eggs! Ended up with a bacon and Brie panini - I panicked! But had lots of green veg cooked in butter with a gluten free burger for tea.

Gluten free sausages for tea on a bed of veg.

BrassicaBabe · 19/02/2019 14:19

Hmm wonder if I can hang on to my mid-morning weigh Hmm After an 11k run (so dehydration) and a poo I was down 2lb on the first thing in the morning weigh. Doing another 24 hour fast today. 3rd day on the trot. (Basically one meal a day). It's ok as long as I keep busy and my meal last night meant I had enough energy for my run this morning. The same wouldn't be true if I wanted to run this afternoon though. My attempt at a new attitude to wine is Friday and Saturday only.

Looking forward to hearing about your weigh-in after a recovery cherries. You are bang on with the post op water retention too.

BIWI I'm with you on the bad sleep too! I think I'm seeing every hour at the moment. (PS I really appreciate your support across this and previous threads and previous BCs)

Nice one on the dress front Live. Glad we didn't need to send a rescue party!

Mimosa1 · 19/02/2019 16:02

Sorry to hear @BrassicaBabe and @BIWI that you're having sleep problems. I did earlier in the year and it's awful. Mine only resolved when I resigned from my job. I'm starting a new one in a couple weeks and I hope my sleep continues to be good.

I have had another mini woosh - 400g after a couple of days of constant weeing ahem. Worth it though! I'm trying to Marie Kondo my wardrobe and have bought a few really nice things ahead of my new job starting. I don't seem to have changed sizes at all despite losing over 5kg - nearly 1st, but then again, I've got a lot to lose and lost of my clothes are stretchy and forgiving... it feels good to have a clear out though.

Siameasy · 19/02/2019 16:02

You are hardcore BrassicaBabe I have only done 1 24hr fast but I must say I enjoyed the time it frees up!

Did you have any negative comments? I’m so fed up of hearing from people that we have to fuel the machine every few hours 🙄

Went to GBK yest lunch and had a double bun less burger. Nearly did a 24hr fast actually but got tempted by Kale chips
last night

One meal a day makes sense for the environment and the pocket too if you think about it

MrsFionaCharming · 19/02/2019 16:05

I just gave blood, tempted to rewrite myself when I get home.
I did have an orange club bar afterward, to stop the carers fussing. So I guess I’ll have a jump tomorrow.

BIWI · 19/02/2019 16:14

The sleep thing is a real bugger. And there's no rhyme nor reason to it either, which is frustrating - so it's not like there's anything I can identify to put right/change!

Sometimes it's about just not being able to fall asleep, mostly it's about waking anywhere between 2 and 5am.

... and then there are the times DH is snoring Hmm

I was away staying with a friend for a couple of nights, a few weeks ago, and had one of the best night's sleep I've had in a long time. A solid stretch of 7 hours - woke up to go to the loo - went back to bed and slept for another 3! But no idea (other than it was a very comfortable bed) why I should have slept so well there/then.

I have a new mattress coming tomorrow, and am hoping this is going to make a big difference!

BIWI · 19/02/2019 16:15

I'm in awe of your 24hr fasting @BrassicaBabe - but also a bit concerned - are you going to be doing that every day? It seems a bit extreme, especially if you're doing 11K runs. (Also in awe of those!)

I went out for my first run for a while - managed just over 2K without stopping, so will gradually build up to 5K again.

OP posts:
Siameasy · 19/02/2019 16:23

I hate running so in awe of any runners. I do HIIT on the X trainer instead
It’s certainly true that all exercise does is make you hungry. I could easily do one meal a day on sedentary days but today (gym day) I’m pretty peckish

Hefzi · 19/02/2019 16:33

Bloody hell, Brassica that's hardcore!

I'm a horrible sleeper - have been since childhood - so I feel everyone's pain. Something I was told years ago by a doctor was to get up if you can't go back to sleep. The idea is that you go to a different room, and do something relaxing - listen to soft music or read a book - and go back to bed when you are tired. I don't know if it works, mind - I just put the light on and read as I live alone Grin.

Happy New Bed, BIWI- I've got my new mattress arriving when I'm back. I'm planning to take a few days off so I can luxuriate in itBlush

BIWI · 19/02/2019 16:36

Grin I like your thinking @Hefzi!

Yes, if I'm awake in the middle of the night I often go downstairs and read. Sometimes I just take myself off to the spare room, and that can help.

I'm not working very much these days, and so try to tell myself that if I can't sleep it really doesn't matter, as the alarm isn't going to go off at 6.45 any more!

OP posts:
Hefzi · 19/02/2019 16:59

It's such a bugger not being able to sleep, though - I knew yesterday I'd had too much coffee too late: went off to sleep at half eleven - wide awake at half twelve. Entirely self-inflicted in that case. I spent my time fantasising about my imaginary existence in Pakistan. (I have no idea why Pakistan, BTW. Never even been there Grin)

And being smug that Boot Camp seems to equal less flatulence...

Hefzi · 19/02/2019 17:01

And I reckon you should have a bed warming for one for a few days too- get your DH to sleep on the sofa so you can luxuriate on the whole mattress!

Rshard · 19/02/2019 17:02

Another bad sleeper. Brain starts working and that’s me done for the night. I often go and get in the spare bed, read for a bit and can quite often get back to sleep. I’m always worried about getting back to sleep for a short time and then feeling awful when the alarm goes off.

KiteMarked · 19/02/2019 17:47

My scales are all over the place. I wonder if they need new batteries. I don't feel like I've gained, but I really don't know.

I've been walking a lot more (car in garage!), so maybe the increasing numbers is muscle swelling or whatever the scientific words are .

My clothes are still fitting nicely, some jeans are getting too baggy, but maybe I need to lay off the cheese.

I bought Keto measuring sticks today and the colour was barely elevated. I expected to be further into ketoacidosis, tbh.

tootstastic · 19/02/2019 18:01

Thanks @BIWI, I am trying to fit in the odd class that use weights, along with the yoga and Pilates, so fingers crossed it might help the old spaniels ears.

I'm another who struggles to sleep through the night. I wonder if it's not a coincidence that those battling with weight loss also struggle with sleep issues. They say poor sleep affects weight, don't they.

Doilooklikeatourist · 19/02/2019 18:20

Made the chicken , and cauliflower Alfredo from Diet Doctor
Was absolutely delicious
I chucked everything in together , rather than parboiling cauli etc
Added a few mushrooms , and DH had mash with his

BrassicaBabe · 19/02/2019 18:31

Here is the DD link on fasting
https://www.dietdoctor.com/longer-fasting-regimens

I don't intend it keep it up for long. But I really need to get back to my November weight. It's getting me down. And the LCHF that has worked so well for me just needs a little kick to get going again.

11k was my longest ever run. I was definitely shuffling by the end. I had a pretty big meal last night so I was riding high on the back of that. Maybe defeating the point of fasting?! Hmm

Of course now I could eat a scabby dog! This is the danger zone not to simply consume the contents of the fridge! About to start on dinner. It'll be left over lamb and buttered savoy. If I was being angelic I'd leave it there. But I think I'll pull in some creamy leeks too. I say that because avoiding dairy might also help my cause based on my recent experience. Any scientist among us will know to only change one thing at a time. So for now that's fasting. Dairy another time Grin

AthelstaneTheUnready · 19/02/2019 18:35

high five to all those poor sleepers out there Grin. I'm one - combination of stress, cats, and the worst mattress in the world. I put some money aside from the house move to buy a new bed (current one's far too large) but CANNOT find one I like, so new mattress has to wait a while.

am back this week to the weight I was a couple of weeks' ago, having lost the startling 11 lbs that I put on when ill - don't big-stick me, BIWI, it was all inflammation and not moving, I stuck to the WOE Halo
