Week 6 - Low Carb Bootcamp - it's all downhill from here!

Morning losers!

Here's the spreadsheet

So we start the second half of Bootcamp. By now, hopefully you're in the swing of things, and the scales and/or the tape measure are showing good results.

Keep focused. Keep your eye on what you're eating - it's all too easy to become a bit complacent, relax and let the carbs creep back in.

Keep up the water (you are drinking enough, aren't you?!) and make sure that you're eating lots of fat and getting your carbs from vegetables and salad.

But above all - good luck!

Hi all. My router is broken so I can’t log on my computer which means I’m still on my phone which I’m shit at. So apologies for bizarre words appearing.

I’m under the weather again with my glands up and tonsillitis. So more antibiotics and some strong ibuprofen painkillers.

I stayed at my parents last night as dealing with the kids all day while feeling awful was too much for me. Mum did cottage pie for dinner and I picked off the mash but the mince had carrots in it.

I woke this morning feeling bloated so I’m dreading the scales. I’m just so tired too. RUBBISH!!!! Just so fucking rubbish. Sorry.

GuyMartinsSideburns · 20/02/2019 17:46

Hi all,

Hope you all start getting some better sleep! I keep waking in the small hours and it’s driving me mad.

Didn’t weight Monday - had family to stay whom I rarely see, there was one off plan meal (nothing crazy) and wine.

Today i feel terrible, I’ve got the lurgy. Ive drank too many hot drinks and I ate something earlier that I shouldn’t have. I’m feeling super miserable and it’s not helped by me being in the midst of tapering down my anti depressants (great timing!) So please excuse my lack of posting, I’m hoping to feel better soon!

Wishing you all some decent kip Smile

BIWI · 20/02/2019 17:55

Oh dear @MrsKoala and @GuyMartinsSideburns Sad. Hope you're feeling better soon. Don't stress about your food - just focus on getting better.

@lurknolinger

I usually try to make meals in a single pan too so you save time on washing up too.

Shallot prawns and garlic fried up in peanut oil, add shredded cabbage and mushrooms. Add cream and seasoning bring to the boil and reduce so its nice and thick, parmesan optional.

This works with other meat too. and any other vegetables.

Instead of adding the cream, you can add...
-Soy sauce/sesame seed/sesame oil
-Tomato sauce, cream and cheese.
-Curry sauce so a jar of penang thai curry, or masala sauce whatever is low carb.
-Sour cream and pesto(any)

I usually make a variation on this, its very quick. just the time it takes to cook the meat really. I have packs of king prawns in the freezer for this, they defrost very quickly.

Doilooklikeatourist · 20/02/2019 18:44

@lurknolinger , my nail seems fine , it’s the bottom fleshy part of my big toe that’s the problem , it’s getting better slowly though
@Rshard , today went well
Previous typical menu
B Greek youghrt , couple of berries. HM granola , cream to mix
L Cheese omlette
D salmon , cauli rice , green veg and creamy mushrooms
Snack cheese
Today
B buttery scrambled eggs
L ham and avocado , lettuce and cucumber, olive oil and mayo
D pan fried salmon , spinach , courgettes and cabbage , buttery mushrooms
Snack nil
So far , so good , it definitely makes me think about what to eat , and no grabbing cheese out the fridge
Need to have a think about what to have tomorrow, eggs for breakfast is always good , I cooked an extra bit of salmon to have for lunch , not sure of dinner yet , thinking about courgette with bacon and pesto ?

MrsKoala · 20/02/2019 18:46

I’m not giving up BIWI. I’m too stubborn for that! Whether I lose anything with all the medication tho I’ll wait and see. But I’ll koko.

Btw what does nsv mean?

Hefzi · 20/02/2019 19:01

Congratulations on the new mattress, @BIWI - enjoy!

BrassicaBabe · 20/02/2019 19:10

@MrsKoala NSV=something like non-scale value. Something that is good but not directly weight related.

Hope you enjoy the mattress BIWI

4th and I think final day of 24 hour fasting for me this week. No running today. By 6pm I could have eaten a scabby dog! I had lo-dough pizza. It was pretty good. But then anything that's a carrier for cheese and pepperoni is good right?! I'm guessing they don't last long so I'll have the other one tomorrow. Wondering about bacon and egg "wrap" for lunch.

The fasting is having a positive effect. Not drastic but positive. I wonder what the weekend will bring when I become slightly less "military". Hmm (Give it another 5 years and I'll only need 100cals to survive Angry) Next week I might do 16:8 alternating with 24 hour fasting in the week.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 20/02/2019 19:24

Just had an amazing dinner. Lamb chops with crunchy fat spread with a sort of pesto made from basil, mint, pistachios, lemon and olive oil. Side of stem broccoli (avec beurre bien sur) and Nigella's petit pois a la francaise (sans sucre).

So far so no dairy. Will I last the evening without the cheeeeeese?

Breakfast was boiled eggs and butter
Lunch was white crab meat, avocado and lettuce

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 20/02/2019 19:25

Oh. Fuck it. Just realised I had a small bite of brownie this afternoon (a child made it, I had to).

Siameasy · 20/02/2019 20:41

Fingers Xd for a good nights sleep for all

Slinky you’ve done so well, very impressed with your meals, I would forget about the brownie.

Brassica there was some bloke my mate was on about who eats every few days lol
To be fair the caveman probably would’ve done that-killed a huge creature, stuffed face and not eaten for days.

I am doing meat (flesh) only next week so am expecting to give up eating altogether 😂

Melty · 20/02/2019 20:53

NSV = Non scale victory.

I'm a lurker, not really a poster.
But have been doing this since last September. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, so didn't have too much of a choice.
But, I have lost 3 and a half stone and blood sugars almost normal now. Just need to get my early morning sugars down, which I expect to get better as I lose more weight. Sadly, I still have 6 stone to go.

Still losing 1-2 lbs weekly. Slight stall at the end of Jan/beginning of Feb where I stayed the same for 3 weeks, but started losing again. (I reduced the dairy - still having cream but less of it.)

It is hard sometimes. I enjoy my food, and I love pasta/and bread. So I miss it. If someone at work has toast, I can smell it from down the corridor! Savoury has always been my downfall. But anything vaguely sweet these days tastes like syrup now.

Bonus, If I keep this up, I am less likely to lose a limb or my eyesight. (I'm only 51 so rather hold on to them!)

m0therofdragons · 20/02/2019 21:08

@Melty you're doing brilliantly!

I had dark chocolate mousse today for dd1's birthday ( She's having cake for her party so requested mousse). I was homemade and just eggs and melted dark chocolate. Not ideal but fairly low carb in the scheme of things.

Doilooklikeatourist · 20/02/2019 21:21

@melty losing 3 and half stone is fantastic , well done 😀
Any tips of meal favourites you can pass on ?

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 20/02/2019 21:32

siameasy it's not really the norm but I really wanted to make an effort today. It was actually really simple. I need to up my game more. I deserve it right?

melty what a great attitude and well done!

SummerSazz · 20/02/2019 21:45

@Mimosa1 - my 7 hours isn't super cardio exercise and I'm not insanely fit 😁. Usually 5x Pilates before work (6am alarm ), 1 or 2 runs at the weekend, a couple of longish walks and a swim. I love the way I feel after exercise and combining it with LCHF and no alcohol the results are clear. So onwards and downwards hopefully out of the overweight BMI category soon....

@BIWI I hope your mattress is a thing of dreams. Quite literally Grin

Made a lovely salmon and prawn laksa for dinner DH and DD had noodles and I had a big base of tender stem broccoli which was lovely. I'll try and attach a pic of the recipe

Week 6 - Low Carb Bootcamp - it's all downhill from here!
venusandmars · 20/02/2019 21:57

Food was more of a challenge today.
B - granola, Yogurt, blueberries (that I'd brought with me)
L - chicken curry, spinach salad (no rice or Dahl or poppadoms or mango chutney for me)
D - passed on the lentil cottage pie, and ate avocado, salad and fried kale. Did not have tiramasu.
Will be glad to get home!

Melty · 20/02/2019 22:13

Thank you,
I think the more you have to lose, the more you lose. To begin with anyway.

Mushrooms. Lots of mushrooms.
Stuff a few with pate (the farmhouse with mushroom pate is the lowest carb wise) top with grated mozrella. bung in high oven for 20 mins. Yum,
I have various types of eggs for breakfast, pretty much every day. Love scrambled, with fried mushrooms and butter. I have fried bacon at the weekend. the thin and crispy smoked pancetta style. Turkey legs roasted until they are crispy. Buttered cabbage, and sometimes creamed cabbage.
Lunch I have chicken salads, with avocado, and mayo.
Or home made veg soup. I hate brocolli but can tolerate it in soup. (add cream once reheated)
Babybel for snack. Loads of water.
Dinner : love stroganoff but I use minced beef. Have wih cauli rice.
I never struggle for choice.
Cream makes everything taste better. I have spent the last 25 years avoiding fat- but still got fat.......
What a waste.

m0therofdragons · 20/02/2019 22:29

Does 4 hours at the local indoor water park count as exercise? No actual swimming as it's all flumes but so many stairs to keep climbing and the river thing on the inflatable rings was lots of exercise when you have 2 7yos to keep pushing in the right direction! Grin

Mimosa1 · 20/02/2019 22:32

Ouch @Doilooklikeatourist that sounds really sore.

@SummerSazz That sounds insanely fit to me!

I didn't have a great day food wise - i met someone for lunch at a Japanese grill restaurant (they chose) and the whahaca takeout so limited choices.

Aaargh.

Dia12 · 20/02/2019 22:44

Well done on resisting the cake and getting into the 10s @m0therofdragons, I was hoping for the same but stuck on just over 11. I'm thinking perhaps I need to follow some of the others and cut out the dairy.

3 stone loss in what, 5 months? That's brilliant @Melty.

Has anyone tried any products from lowcarbmegastore.com? I've ordered a low carb pancake mix and sugar free maple syrup just as a one off treat! I've generally been avoiding sweeteners.

lurknolinger · 20/02/2019 22:48

Thanks for the recipe ideas Imnotacerealkiller and for yours too Melty.
Glad your nail is ok DoIlooklikeatourist but if it's the fleshy bit no wonder it's sore. My nail came off completely and now I'm left with something that resembles Gollum's big toe Smile

Siameasy · 21/02/2019 05:50

Well done Melty that’s excellent news. You’re inspiring to others. My Fil has T2 and I wish he would try this method because I really worry about him.
One of the main reasons I do this WOE is to avoid blood sugar miseries and the insulin rollercoaster plus I have a familial tendency to gain fat around the waist.
I was a savoury addict too. I guess some of us are pre disposed to it all and have to fight harder
I agree re sweetness - even carrots are starting to taste too sweet now. That said I made my daughter a blueberry smoothie (berries and Full fat plain yog) and it was DIVINE.

m0therofdragons · 21/02/2019 08:30

Really tired today and just realised I've arrived at work with no mascara! I look ill! Need to wait until 9am when I can pop upstairs to the mini Boots and buy more. Throat is still painful but hot drinks are helping and it's making me drink more water.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 21/02/2019 08:39

I am back to Friday's weight so happy with that. Back in the 13s (just). No dairy yesterday to speak of (ignoring the mini mouthful of brownie and the two teas with milk in) and more importantly no cheese which is what I think is stalling me.

Going to try for no cheese again today. Day at a time and all that.
