Week 6 - Low Carb Bootcamp - it's all downhill from here!

Morning losers!

Here's the spreadsheet

So we start the second half of Bootcamp. By now, hopefully you're in the swing of things, and the scales and/or the tape measure are showing good results.

Keep focused. Keep your eye on what you're eating - it's all too easy to become a bit complacent, relax and let the carbs creep back in.

Keep up the water (you are drinking enough, aren't you?!) and make sure that you're eating lots of fat and getting your carbs from vegetables and salad.

But above all - good luck!

Thank you for everyones kind thoughts. I am struggling a bit emotionally at the moment and I think it's having a toll on my health and therefore any weight loss. The worry of certain situations and repercussions of the decisions I have to make are weighing heavy on me.

Anyway. I've resolved to start again more positively tomorrow. Sorry to be a moaning bag. I'll be happier tomorrow I promise.

BIWI · 24/02/2019 17:17

It's a bit similar to something I occasionally used to do, called the Three Day Experiment. I have no idea why it was called that, other than it's something you do for three days! (You're doing it for longer, though).

Essentially the 3DE was a way of addressing a fall off the wagon, and for three days you would eat only lean protein. Zero carbs and max 5g fat (I think, from memory). After the three days, you introduce veg/salad very gradually.

I remember the bit in the Gary Taubes bit, where they talked about the explorers or anthropologists, who lived with a tribe for year and existed only on protein - all the health markers they were monitoring improved, and their dental health also improved! (Bit hazy about the specific details as I read that book a while ago - but agree with you about the essential principles)

Pub meal out and I feel horrible. Bloated and uncomfortable. What have they snuck into my dinner? Burger and cheese. No bun. All good. Salad and mayo. Good. Side of coleslaw. Might be sugar in that?! Sad Something wasn't right Hmm

BrassicaBabe · 24/02/2019 18:45

What's the logic behind the carnivore diet @Siameasy @StuntNun? A short term fast thing? Just curious but sounds more palatable than an egg fast which I've never managed.

StuntNun · 24/02/2019 19:10

Brassica a couple of years ago most people tried carnivore for health reasons, for example extreme histamine intolerance can be resolved by only eating fresh meat. More recently celebs such as Dr Shawn Baker have popularised it and a fair few of the renowned nutrition experts have weighed in on it. In its simplest form, carnivores exclusively eat from the animal kingdom: meat, fish, eggs and dairy (although coffee and alcohol are often included too). The really serious carnivores tend to stick to beef and some live entirely on ribeye steak! Dirty carnivores let some vegetables sneak in but most of their calories come from meat. The usual intake is 1-2 lb of meat per day. Amongst some of the serious carnivore groups it has become more of an ideology than a diet and there are other facets that run alongside: not using sunscreen, not brushing teeth, avoiding shampoo/soap/deodorant, being anti-vaccination, etc. It is a bit of a strange movement to be honest.

BIWI · 24/02/2019 19:53

Eew! Not brushing teeth and avoiding shampoo, soap and deodorant is not Bootcamp friendly!!!

Aaargh can I have a quick moan? Politeness dictated I eat a couple of carby meals at in laws. They know we're low carbing and thought they'd cooked low carb food but really hadn't.

BrassicaBabe · 24/02/2019 20:02

Quick BIWI add toothbrushing to the BC rules.

Married to a beef farmer stunt. I might have to read up more on that approach Grin

BrassicaBabe · 24/02/2019 20:03

That's hard going Mimosa. Sometimes there's not much you can do

Siameasy · 24/02/2019 20:16

Thanks StuntNun I shall miss butter too-my daughter and I eat it out of the packet. And I would miss veg as well although I can easily go bonkers and stuff myself with veg which is another reason I’m interested in a total break from carbs just for a week

Eurgh I’ve heard of the egg one but that’s too much Brassica. I reckon, re your meal, it was the slaw wot did it as it defo will have sugar in. Or a burger fried in veg oil?

Mimosa1 what did they cook you?
I got asked yesterday if I can have sugar.🤦🏻‍♂️

BIWI · 24/02/2019 20:38

@BrassicaBabe is it wrong that my first thought was 'ooh fillet steak!'?

OP posts:
BIWI · 24/02/2019 20:40

@Mimosa1 it's tough, isn't it? Sadly on those occasions, you just have to smile and get on with it.

We went to dinner with friends, some years ago now. As they are pretty close friends, I told them I was low carbing, and was assured that what they were cooking was low carb.

The whole meal was vegetarian curries - chickpea, lentil/dahl, brown rice, etc. Beautifully cooked. But not in any way low carb! But it would have been really awkward if I'd kicked off, so I enjoyed the food. Sometimes that's all that you can do.

Mimosa1 · 24/02/2019 20:46

Thanks @BrassicaBabe and lol @Siameasy - shepherd's pie (" just scrape the potatoes off" ) that was mostly carrot and onion and peas and tomato ketchup with a bit of meat and chicken with a grape and strawberry and pepper salad. Neither were the end of the world but especially since Im worried they think I've inveigled DH into a weird faddy diet, I had to eat them :)

There's a busy Reddit thread on carnivore/Keto for those who are interested (though please keep posting here!) I'm not doing it but I remember last BC a few people did an egg fast for a few days.

Mimosa1 · 24/02/2019 20:47

@BIWI that does sound nice and you are a good friend! It's just that I've only lost 200g this week and I want more

Iamnotacerealkiller · 24/02/2019 20:51

Just made tagliatelle with psyllium husk wraps. Was surprisingly decent in a creamy bacon/mushroom sauce. stopped my wobble and now feel very full.

Unfortunately quite a lot of work but have made a load of the wraps and frozen them for the future. probably can expect a temporary gain tomorrow as all the fibre tends to absorb water that i would have otherwise weed out.

BrassicaBabe · 24/02/2019 21:06

Haha, poor you Mimosa. You'd struggle to get more carbs into that shepherds pie if you tried!

ShagMeRiggins · 24/02/2019 21:16

I’m gobsmacked by the idea of this carnivore diet thingy. I will be watching with interest and hope you have plenty of toothpicks, *.

1stMrsF · 24/02/2019 22:10

Bit of a mixed day. Just below last Monday's weight this morning. which is great after a gain midweek.

B - creamy coffee
L- spinach and Parmesan omelette
D - low carb sausages with celeriac champ (amazing, will post recipe)

Was intending for alcohol free day and then it was so lovely we went to the pub for a drink in the garden and then a friend who I haven't seen for weeks invited me over for a drink and then I also ate crisps at her house and then later in front of the TV ate 3 chocolates! Blush

On the bright side, the chocs tasted unbearably sweet - my tastes have changed! But a bit cross about the slip. Back to school tomorrow and a manageable 4 weeks left of BC - I'm up for a concerted effort.

Wishing you all light thoughts for Monday xx

Siameasy · 24/02/2019 22:15

I’ve been reading all evening about the carnivore - some people do it for 30 days 😱
Lol Mimosa1 at just scrape the potatoes off. Sounds like a carb day out omg I would’ve died😂😂

Siameasy · 24/02/2019 22:17

Next step-post carnivory will be....cannibalism😂😂😂
I’ve started eyeing up some of my workmates. One of them would make excellent bacon

Hanging my head in shame after a terrible weekend where I fell off the wagon massively. What was that I was saying in my last post about not drinking for the next 4 weeks? Less than 24 hours later I'd consumed a bottle of wine.

I had to stay at my parents house this weekend. I'm not going into details but it was quite a tough weekend for me emotionally. In total I drank a bottle and a half of wine, ate 2 slices of pizza, some chips, 3 slices of toast, a tuna wrap, a doughnut (FFS) and a handful of biscuits. A massive fuck up. I just threw my hands up in the air.

Paying for it this morning. 3.4 lbs up 😳. I'm hoping a lot of it is water weight. Will get back on it today.

BalloonSlayer · 25/02/2019 07:17

Ah don't worry Slinky, happens to us all, you'll turn that around in no time!

I have had a disappointing and confusing weigh in. I weighed myself yesterday morning and was pleased but I knew that Monday is always the day where I end up heaver, i don't know why, so I was worried there would be a gain this week.

I moved things around in the bathroom last night (not a euphemism) and the scales have moved a foot away and at a 90 degree angle, but are still on a hard tiled floor. I weighed myself before bed and was quite pleased at the weight, I thought with the usual overnight 2lb loss I would be at the same weight I posted last week (which had been a Sunday weigh in so a bit of a cheat)

Anyway, I weighed myself this morning and it informed me I had only lost ½lb overnight. Whaaaaat???? That has literally never happened.
I must have weed more than that in the night!

So . . . I moved the scales back to where they used to be. They told me I had put on 2lb. Angry

I really haven't put on 2lb!

So I think I will take the first weight, which means 1lb up for me this week! Sad And I have been doing very well, or so I thought, but now I feel like I am cheating, and I'm NOT! < indignant >

Rshard · 25/02/2019 07:19

I’ll join you @slinkydinkydoo. I’ve had a terrible week, all my own fault but this morning I’m feeling so mad with myself. I need to fix my mindset I think.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 25/02/2019 07:29

It's hard sometimes isn't it? Old patterns are just so comforting even though you know deep down they're actually doing you more harm than good. I really really really could not handle going through the low carb conversation on top of everything else that was going on. The wine was definitely a crutch.

But as you say, we all go through it. No need to abandon ship.
