Week 6 - Low Carb Bootcamp - it's all downhill from here!

Morning losers!

Here's the spreadsheet

So we start the second half of Bootcamp. By now, hopefully you're in the swing of things, and the scales and/or the tape measure are showing good results.

Keep focused. Keep your eye on what you're eating - it's all too easy to become a bit complacent, relax and let the carbs creep back in.

Keep up the water (you are drinking enough, aren't you?!) and make sure that you're eating lots of fat and getting your carbs from vegetables and salad.

But above all - good luck!

siam when you say you get the same feeling with dairy that you do with carbs what do you mean?

Siameasy · 22/02/2019 06:27

Slinky I mean I get that feeling of a “hit”-a sense of pleasure beyond normal and a feeling that it will lead to over consumption. It’s mainly cream, mascarpone and creme fraiche responsible so I also feel it’s the texture contributing to that. It’s like a drug and feels a little intoxicating.
So reading up on it, dairy has opiate-like substances within and so does gluten. I think cos I’ve cleaned up my diet I can now really sense this, it’s so interesting.
Anyway I was/am a carb addict and would get that same “rush” or pleasure from starchy carbs

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 22/02/2019 08:01

I thought that's what you meant. I get the carby hit. Hadn't noticed it so much from cheese/cream but 2 days without has made me realise that I do get it from dairy but on a more subconscious level.

m0therofdragons · 22/02/2019 08:07

Weight loss seems to have stalled yet I feel slimmer and my clothes are looser. It's so frustrating. I actually drank loads this week and although I didn't eat enough yesterday surely eating too little occasionally is a good thing. I guess there's still a few days but I'm not expecting to lose more than a pound. I stubbornly demand 2lb loss as I've changed my woe so dramatically but the scales say nope.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 22/02/2019 08:09

On another note (possibly a bit woo) does anyone know anything about losing fat from fat cells and anxiety? I don't really suffer from it (had one bout 5 years ago when I was overweight, drinking too much coffee and alcohol, eating crap/too much sugar). I'm not consuming any of that but the last few weeks I've been feeling very anxious (terrible the day after my booze fest on Saturday, came very close to a panic attack).

Am I experiencing some kind of past trauma toxin release?

BIWI · 22/02/2019 08:11

@m0therofdragons - if your clothes are loose, then it's definitely working! Have you not read all the posts about how the scales are a lot less accurate?

Don't be disheartened. It's clearly working for you. If the scales are causing you grief, then ditch them. Take your measurements instead. Or find an item of clothing that's currently just a bit too tight and try that on once a week instead of a weekly weigh.

If you're a daily weigher, then stop! Go for a weekly weigh-in instead.

I know, I know. Woken up grumpy. Shouldn't post pre coffee. Need to leave for work in 10minutes and I'm not even dressed.

I made loads of cake and fridge cake for dd1's party on Saturday and didn't eat any so in my head I deserved at least a couple of pounds off. Maybe my halo is heavy? Grin

BrassicaBabe · 22/02/2019 08:49

0.2 lb off yesterday. Well it was STS first thing but I waited an hour had an extra wee to score the 0.2 because I could see the scales were wavering Grin

I think I might have to stay on strict BC over the weekend. Eg no wine. I've worked too hard this week to put it back on with a few glasses of wine.

It's not fair is it that exercise doesn't make a difference to weight loss. Well, if never has for me. Really, what's that all about?!

No clue what food plans are for today and this weekend. Pesky really as I'm the one doing the food prep Hmm DH and kids will probably have fish and chips one night but I can resist that these days. Got the final portion of lamb curry to get through. Got a heap of chicken thighs (skin on bone in) in the freezer. Anyone got anything inspirational to do with those?!

Burnshersmurfs · 22/02/2019 10:12

Slinky, this:
www.livestrong.com/article/397774-insufficient-carb-intake-and-anxiety/
seems to give some support (and useful advice to cope with) your concerns. I think it's worth tweaking this woe a bit until you are feeling good, even if it slows down weight loss for a bit. Anxiety can be awful Flowers

ShagMeRiggins · 22/02/2019 11:25

Really appreciate the feedback of everyone’s struggles and issues with alcohol. I think I’m much worse than all of you Blush but it’s good to know I’m not alone, especially as pertains to the trap booze is on this WOE. All that weeek work being scuppered by “being naughty” on the weekends with a glass or eight of wine. Self-sabotage!

So. Today is Day 1 alcohol free for me and I’m happy to report no booze. (Looks at clock and laughs.)

Last night was meant to be my last hurrah. Weirdly I didn’t finish the fifth of gin I’d bought (which I could easily do if I start pouring early enough). Had three G&Ts then poured the rest out this morning.

Unfortunately, I rather determinedly sought out the Fuck Its food-wise...something I never do. Two slices of leftover pizza, a plate of tortilla chips with cheese and salsa (nachos), a bowl of packaged pasta for one, and as if that wasn’t enough, finished off the cookie dough ice cream. I haven’t had ice cream for about two years. Hmm

Anyway, woke at 5.00am and having a lovely day. I expect a crash of some kind later in the afternoon but for now I’m going on the treadmill.

Ladies, don’t be like ShagMe. Grin

Mimosa1 · 22/02/2019 11:38

@m0therofdragons lol at maybe my halo is heavy

@ShagMeRiggins sounds like a difficult blip but you're not being like me and turning it into 6months and 2 stone back on...

@nowlook thanks for the almond milk tip. I'm finding lactose free milk is doing the trick thing though is obviously has more carbs than almond milk.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 22/02/2019 13:07

Alcohol is a massive weight gainer for me. But I don't have too much trouble giving it up thankfully.

Chocolate on the other hand...

1stMrsF · 22/02/2019 13:18

Checking in to help stay on track. 2l of water down already.
B - creamy coffee
L - boiled eggs with ta broccoli and mayo

Not sure about dinner yet. Very little food here as Ocado coming tomorrow morning.

@SlinkyDinkyDoo alcohol can invoke feelings of anxiety and paranoia and I'm finding my tolerance for the effects of alcohol much diminished (whether through lower consumption or because of the woe, not sure) so this may also have contributed for you?

BrassicaBabe · 22/02/2019 13:39

Today's a new day eh shagme? Hope your resolve stays firm. The list last night made me smile. You certainly aren't the first or last to keep eating once you've started.

A slow 5k done. Just had lunch (so 16:8 for me today) of omelette with cheese, salami and a little philly. Planning on steak and veg of some description for dinner. Also going to attempt a weekend sans alcohol

I think that my 4 days of 24 hour fasting as reset my snacking. I think I was becoming inclined to grab a few too many low carb snacks (scratchings, pepperami, cheese etc). Clearly no snacks when fasting. But the following 2 days of 16:8 I also managed to stay snack free with just two meals. 2lbs to get back under the past 10 stone and see the back of this Xmas weight!

Also, I've had a message about a possible job (I've been out of work since August). He's supposed to call me this afternoon for a chat. Massive fingers crossed!!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 22/02/2019 13:54

Making brownies and dipped a finger in to check batter temperature. Obviously then shoved that in my mouth...froze, spat it out and washed tongue...didn't even taste it Halo

nowlook · 22/02/2019 13:56

@ShagMeRiggins

I'm not going to get all competitive over alcohol, but I will say that until I started this wow, my first calories of the day always came courtesy of merlot...

@BrassicaBabe Best of luck!

Siameasy · 22/02/2019 15:08

Omg Brassica I had the exact same reaction to the 24hr fast-I feel I may have made up for it the next day. Whereas 16:8 which is more or less what I do on a normal day (two meals a day-LCHF) works really well.

I’m just over 10st as well aargh

MrsTerryPratcett · 22/02/2019 15:26

Had a buttery bagel dream last night. Then a Baileys chocolate cake dream.

Do dream carbs have the same effect as sweeteners?

I did have a great run last night. Felt crappy and thought I'd give up early but I didn't. Helped by a really creepy area through woods in the pitch dark on the way back. I was supposed to be on a walk minute but ran through. Not doing that route again until it gets lighter. 😱

m0therofdragons · 22/02/2019 15:30

@BrassicaBabe good luck with the job chat. Hope it works out!

Definitely have that Friday feeling. How is it not 5pm yet? I've done loads today and just want to go home and decorate the cakes for dd1's party. Then I can relax.

I've had a mango today. It's my favourite fruit but probably not very low carb. Haven't had one for ages. It was very sweet though so I might pay for that. Boiled egg salad for lunch with spinach and buttery kale with bacon and a fried egg for tea.

Must not eat icing!

StuntNun · 22/02/2019 16:21

Slinky I can get quite jittery when I go into ketosis. Are you eating very low carb? Maybe go for Bootcamp Light rather than strict Bootcamp?

venusandmars · 22/02/2019 16:27

Glad to be home after a few days on a 'retreat'. I resisted all temptation on apple crumble, custard, tiramisu, cakes and biscuits, but it was quite difficult to know what was in some of the other food, and it was pretty hard to eat enough fats. I was adding lumps of butter to soup! There was lasagne and I scraped out all the pasta and ate the meat and cheese, but then remembered it was probably béchamel sauce, and a spinach soup turned out to be spinach and parsnip.

I'm not normally a snacker - I find on this woe that I'm not hungry - but because we kept stopping for coffee / tea breaks and everyone else was eating, I got 'something in my mouth' envy. I ate nuts or bits of cheese, all OK but at the same time, it was just food that I didn't really need.

I returned feeling bloated and heavy, convinced that I'd put on loads, so I was really pleased that when I hopped on the scales I was the same weight as Monday. I instantly felt like my trousers were looser Grin.

Joining you all in the no cheese or cream, at least until Monday.

Food today:
L - avocado, salad, salami, olive oil, and mayonnaise
D - smoked fish on buttery spinach, topped with poach egg, plus oven roasted broccoli
(butter doesn't count in the no-dairy stakes, does it?)

ShagMeRiggins · 22/02/2019 16:33

nowlook — show off.

(Thank you. I don’t feel like such a fuck up then.)

ShagMeRiggins · 22/02/2019 16:35

I’m also cutting caffeine completely, I’ve decided. Used to avoid it altogether but have allowed it in coffee and tea. Now it’s back to rooibos and decaf.

Still can’t part with dairy!

BrassicaBabe · 22/02/2019 16:41

Woah there shagme now you've just gone too far

Grin
StuntNun · 22/02/2019 17:31

No Venus butter doesn't count when cutting dairy because it's almost pure fat with only a tiny amount of protein. It's the dairy protein that causes the higher insulin levels.
