Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Here endeth the first half!

Morning all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope that the start of week 5 puts to rest the troublesome weeks 3 & 4, and we can get on with the job of losing weight from here on in!

Just remember that weight loss from now on will be slow and steady. Unless you have masses to lose, you should expect to see around 1-2lbs a week loss.

I hope that the scales, or the tape measure, are kind to you!

Here's to a great week

Feeling really fat today. Scales are staying kind but my eyes tell me otherwise. It's period week so I'm guessing that's the reason.

Notlostjustexploring · 13/02/2019 22:48

Ha! I remember trying 5:2 previously! I lasted a week. Joyless days where all I could think about was food, then to bed for 9pm.

And because everyone loves a NSV - my cheekbones seem to be re-emerging. I hadn't actually realised how much they had been camouflaged before. (Oh the denial) Although the jowls seem to have been accentuated a touch!!

Is there such a thing as too many eggs? I seem to be in a cheese and shallot omelette rut. Oh, NSV #2 - I've become shit hot at slicing shallots. I was so pissed off at how fiddly they were in week one, now I'm rather impressed with myself!

I'm supposed to be going for a walk/cafe lunch/walk tomorrow. Menu looks totally unsuitable, but delicious, so large breakfast for me tomorrow, a virtuous black coffee while my friend has lunch and cake, and then a delicious dinner when I get home of cheesy leeks and pork belly. If I want a sandwich, I can have one, I'm not hurting anyone but me but that means no cheesy leeks or pork belly or mayonnaise or creamy coffee unless I want to get very fat (er) very quickly. And cheesy leeks are better than any sandwich ever could be!!

Basically I'm giving myself permission then my logical self kicks me out of it. Giving myself permission seems to deflate any need to self sabotage, allowing logic to prevail. I don't understand either, but it keeps me on the straight and narrow.

MrsTerryPratcett · 14/02/2019 02:43

I made lasagne and pineapple upside down cake for DD and DH this evening. Didn't even lick the spoon. Do I get a medal or some sort of prize?

WhatTheFronti · 14/02/2019 03:43

Needing to up my water today but a good day thus far!
Navigated a coffee catch up with friend - navigating the carb good but managed it!

B - Greek yogurt & coffee
L - bowl of homemade chili, spinach, avo and cheese
D - pesto chicken with mozerella, broccoli & asparagus

StuntNun · 14/02/2019 06:57

MrsTerry I hereby award you an honorary 5lb weight loss. Grin

Notlost no such thing as too many eggs. I still boast of the time I ate 23 eggs in three days.

Those low carb noodles give me a fierce bellyache. I suspect they're basically indigestible.

MrsKoala if you're still hungry after breakfast could you add a boiled egg or two, maybe mashed with butter?

I was out at a school event last night which promised canapés. There was loads of great stuff: vegetable frittata, cheese wrapped in prosciutto, chicken tikka skewers - a veritable low carb banquet. We're going mainstream!

BalloonSlayer · 14/02/2019 07:05

Yes I did rinse the naked rice!

It was the texture, sort of jelly like. < shudder >

Mind you the remnants that had clung to the leftovers which I took in for lunch seemed ok. But maybe because without "rice" it was such a small lunch I would have eaten anything.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 14/02/2019 08:13

I get what you're saying 'notlost' about giving yourself permission. I hate feeling deprived (who doesn't) but giving permission is about making a choice and therefore being in control. I make the worst food choices when I feel out of control.

BrassicaBabe · 14/02/2019 08:25

I saw a meme the other day about (something like) going forward food or going backwards food. Is the food that you are about to eat going to take you forwards to where you want to be or backwards from it.

Doilooklikeatourist · 14/02/2019 08:34

Breakfast
Low carb granola with Greek yoghurt (5% so cream added ) and raspberries
I weighed out 45 g of granola , and guessed the rest

Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Here endeth the first half!
Haworthia · 14/02/2019 08:34

Scales are still laughing at me. Still weigh 1.5lbs more than I did at the end of week one. I sure am going to a lot of effort to just maintain!

WheelyCote · 14/02/2019 08:51

Egg muffin with bacon and cheese in it for breakfast. Along with coffee

Think I might have celeriac with belly pork for tea.

m0therofdragons · 14/02/2019 09:43

Scales seem stuck on 11! Why do they always make the 1lb dropping down a stone the hardest pound to lose?

Might be period related but I really want to be under 11 for dd's birthday (next Wednesday) so hoping to shift it. Sensible decisions for me this week!

BIWI · 14/02/2019 09:47

@BalloonSlayer I use the noodles but have always been put off by the thought of the rice for some reason - reading your post I think I'm right!

If I do need something where rice is involved, then I make my own cauliflower rice.

Morning all!

I PMed BIWI about this and she suggested I post it to the thread in case it’s of interest to anyone here.

Basically I am bowing out of Bootcamp as just found out I’m 6 weeks pregnant. We’d been trying over 2yrs and had our first appointment at a fertility clinic in November with a view to being referred for assisted conception. The doctor there highly recommended a low carb diet so I’ve stuck to it since then. This was primarily because my BMI was 32 and in our area it must be under 30 to be referred for IVF. I was also diagnosed with hypothyroidism following that clinic and think low carbing has helped with that too, as avoiding gluten, sugar, alcohol and processed foods is recommended. So altogether a good move and I’ll definitely be back on it after baby arrives.

I’m not sure whether low carbing helped us conceive but think that reducing my weight (went from over 13 stone to 11st5) helped us, and I generally feel so much healthier now.

Anyway I hope that wasn’t too much of a ramble! Very best wishes to everyone on Bootcamp and I’m sure I’ll be joining you again after Christmas!

Mimosa1 · 14/02/2019 10:59

@Haworthia that's so frustrating. I don't have any words of wisdom I'm afraid. I know that people more knowledgeable that I am can help if you post your meals?

I'm on my way back home after 5 days of having every single meal out. @MrsTerryPratcett I feel like I deserve a medal too as I didn't eat any obvious carbs but obviously hard to really tell when you're away. I'll be weighing in later to check and I'll be outraged if the pounds haven't melted away

Mimosa1 · 14/02/2019 11:22

I've now stood on the scale and have lost.. 200g. Better thank a kick in the teeth, but seeing as it was only 100g last week... Still, an average of 150g/week is nearly 8kg over a year but boy, it's a slog, especially as I've not fallen off the wagon as far as I know! I've still over 4kg to get into to "normal" bmi and 6kg from where I got to last BC so I need to stick with it.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 14/02/2019 11:22

Congratulations @YessicaHaircut and all the best for your pregnancy, what wonderful news.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 14/02/2019 11:23

A quick question, I seem to have more stomach acidity than before. Is that a side effect or just coincidence?

Dia12 · 14/02/2019 11:33

Your breakfast looks amazing @Doilooklikeatourist - I'm definitely going to give that granola recipe a go.

Maybe a really silly question but are your scales working @Haworthia? Perhaps try another one?

Massive congrats @YessicaHaircut 💐💕 wonderful news. I'm on a weight loss mission for exactly the same reasons, hoping it will make a difference - and really believe in the science behind this woe.
Wishing you a healthy and easy pregnancy!

Burnshersmurfs · 14/02/2019 11:55

Congratulations, Yessica. Such lovely news! Wishing you all the best.

Siameasy · 14/02/2019 12:00

Great news Yessica all the best for the future X

Siameasy · 14/02/2019 12:03

This is my post work out brunch - we have been doing deadlifts!!!!💪🏼

-Mozzarella balls mixed with pesto (have previously added toasted pine nuts YUM)
-1/2. Tin of tuna with mayo and black olives
Had planned a hard boiled egg but I’m blooming full😂good old fats!!

venusandmars · 14/02/2019 12:13

Congratulations YessicaHaircut that is a great NSV Smile and good to hear that low carb diets are being recommended, in some parts of the nhs at least (just not in my corner of the world).

Food today:
B - (Valentine's breakfast) pancakes with cream, crème fraiche, blueberries
L - oven roasted red cabbage with hazelnut butter dressing
D - antipasti: meats, olives, artichoke, cheese, anchovies, salad

I made the cream cheese and egg pancakes recommended on a previous thread. They were great. dh didn't notice they weren't regular pancakes, and I loved having something that wasn't quite so visibly 'eggy'.

nowlook · 14/02/2019 12:21

@YessicaHaircut many congratulations, that's lovely!

@AthelstaneTheUnready gah, I wish I had read your post before I ploughed into the wine and confit duck last night! I thought I was doing so well, too. That will teach me to be smug.

My lovely friend was very complimentary about my weight loss, whilst stressing I really didn't need to lose any. Would you like to borrow her, @venusandmars? Grin

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/02/2019 12:22

Congrats Yessica Grin

Venus... these pancakes... would they be good cold, do you think, for spreading stuff on? Caviar and sour cream would be good, but in reality probably either pate or fishy stuff. Or are they a bit crumbly?
