I love this week - when we find out how much people have lost, and all those of you who haven't really believed it will work are proved wrong!

Here's the spreadsheet

I hope that the scales have been kind to you, or that your measurements have gone down and your clothes are feeling looser!

I look forward to hearing about everyone's progress.

Here's to a great week 2 as well

My weight's gone up by a pound or so this week, but I look and feel slimmer. Am I hallucinating? My clothes are a bit looser, not stretched out....

prettybird · 26/01/2019 12:38

Kitemarked - this WoE often always? results in a redistribution of fat deposits, away from the dangerous visceral fat around your organs. So you may well have changed shape. It's why we recommend that you take measurements as well as weigh yourself. There have been times where I have stalled but I've still lost an inch off my waist ConfusedSmile

For those that are confused as to why they have put weight on despite following the rules: remember that weight does fluctuate on a daily basis. Also, ask yourself, did you have enough water the day before? Counter-intuitively, lack of water result in water retention and can have a negative impact on the scales. If I've seen an upward movement on the scales (I'm a daily weigher), I make a conscious effort that day to have more water and to eat more fat (slices of beurre d'Isigny are lovely! Wink)

Condamine · 26/01/2019 12:47

prettybird. That's good to hear. After an amazing first week loss I have hardly changed this week and I was wondering if I was taking the eat loads of butter with everything too far!

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 26/01/2019 13:15

I fell into a bottle of red last night. 3 glasses, although eating was fine it's just been a real hard week, kids have run me ragged, work was hard and with late nights and the period from hell starting yesterday I couldn't stop doing my usual Friday night routine.
Will do better today... Still down on weight, tiny amounts, only 4lbs down in 2 weeks but I'm OK with that, I'd love to lose a stone in total but I haven't been that weight since I was 18 so it's a lofty goal! I'm only drinking weekends, aiming to start half marathon training on Saturday mornings with a long run do that'll motivate me not to drink on Friday night.
Dh finally home today so it'll take the pressure off, having takeaway, will get kebabs, lots of lovely meat, salad and garlic mayo...he's doing bath and bedtime...
B 2 coffees with cream
L. Bacon, eggs, spinach avocado. Siracha mayo, which I've just realised is probably too sweet.. Need to check.
D. Chicken and lamb kebab.
Im still getting awful lightheaded moments, actually vision went all spotty when I stood up earlier. Had to hold onto something. I had my blood pressure checked, lowish but fine. Seems to happen around my period. I've had my vision checked, got glasses. Thinking now maybe iron? But I literally have been eating a bag or two of spinach to myself in a week, plus loads of other green veg. Maybe it's not enough?

StuntNun · 26/01/2019 13:28

Youcantscareme any chance it could be dehydration causing the dizziness?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 26/01/2019 13:35

Cheeseandapple, if I've eaten too many carbs, the damage always shows up two days later. I used to think I'd got away with it the next day with not much change on the scales, but day two always turned up...

I'm pleased to say that my 4lb gain from early this week - despite eating and drinking entirely on plan - has all but gone with 3lbs of it off just this morning. In a similar vein, I'm wondering if MrsKoala has maybe been unfortunate enough to have her BC weeks 1 and 2 on a week where other things (hormones, stress, sleep, bloody atmospheric pressure for all I know) were aligned against her? Overall, bodies react really well to this WOE, and will drop the fat over a period of time. They occasionally do it in their own sweet way and time though, that's for sure Hmm.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 26/01/2019 13:37

Maybe more salt, youcantscareme - I get lightheaded when my salt's low, and having all that stress plus TOM might be exacerbating it?

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 26/01/2019 13:57

Thanks for the advice, going to try to get loads of water down me today, salt, yes maybe, although I've eaten a fair bit of cheese, bacon today, which have salt, but I font add it to food. Might pop to the shops for some bovril later.
Work is just ridiculous some days, I leave at 7, drink a bottle of water on the way, nearly an hours drive, then when I get in I'm lucky to be able to use the loo before about 1 or 2 pm. Then usually rushing to get away, get kids and sometimes ill get to go again when I pick them up, sometimes that's the first loo visit all day.. So I think I do limit water, as that horrible feeling when you're so desperate to go but have a class full of 12 Yr olds meaning no nipping out. Often if I do chance it I'll get there and there's bloody 6th formers there doing their frigging makeup and chatting! 3 loo Cubicles between about 30 female members of staff and 50 or 60 6th form girls, only 1 near my classroom.
One upside is, I thought I was developing horrible ibs or lactose intolerance..TMI WARNING SORRY... I would have to rush to the loo, several times a day sometimes in a row, have awful stomach cramps, wind, crippling diarrhoea.. (sorry! )
BUT, its all but stopped! Had one bad morning (celeriac I'm looking at you) but all settled!
I can only think it's Carbs, sugar maybe? Even this morning, after a few glasses a vat of wine, still OK..
So I just need to work out how to drink over 2litres of water without peeing and I'm sorted!

MrsTerryPratcett · 26/01/2019 14:36

Youcant I was just thinking I haven't had an IBS flare up since I started this. Touch wood. Even though really rich food is normally a trigger. Maybe it's only a trigger when it's WITH the carbs.

m0therofdragons · 26/01/2019 15:16

Re weighing and weight fluctuations, RH fitness advises to weigh daily and log your average weight over each week. The idea is that the average will reduce if you plot it on a graph and you don't spend each week trying to beat your lowest weight that you were at one given point. Makes sense to me (but I still take my lowest weight because it works for me).

Mimosa1 · 26/01/2019 16:08

I'm also a daily weigher. I find it's a good way to stay mentally on it.

I've found a delicious meal / snack that doesn't need cooking (hope it's @BIWI approved) - prawn cocktail, about 3 carbs per 100g and really delicious on céleri or low carb bread

BalloonSlayer · 26/01/2019 16:21

@youcantscaremeihavechildren BIWI will probably get her stick out but today I bought a zero sugar Robinson "squashed" and squirted a teeny bit into my plain yoghurt. V v nice.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 26/01/2019 16:47

@balloonslayer then I'm defo for the stick, with my wine intake...

tootstastic · 26/01/2019 17:07

Ooh beware of the stick....I think you should name your stick @BIWI Grin

@Youcantscaremeihavechildren

I wonder if you need more salt? If you're not cooking with it, this could be a problem for you. Definitely worth upping this.

And for you and @MrsTerryPratcett my IBS cleared up completely when I first started low carbing - it was a revelation! It's one of the reasons I (mostly) stick to low carb eating these days.

BUT

Why the wine? Could you really not have lasted the two weeks? Thing is, there's always going to be a reason why you 'need' a drink (and believe me I understand that!) - but surely the knowledge that you're impeding your weight loss must concern you?

AND why no breakfast?

@SlinkyDinkyDoo

Can anyone tell me the difference between bootcamp and Blood Sugar Diet other then BSD being a limit of 800 calories a day and bootcamp being less calorie counting orientated?

Well the BSD is much stricter, and you do have to count your calories. It is more focused on calories than carbs, and some of the meals I've seen in the recipe book are higher carb than we would probably eat.

That said, when you've finished the 8 weeks, they advise you to follow low carb diet (although from memory I think they call it a Mediterranean diet)

@MrsKoala

Overall your menus look good - but three questions:

  • how big are your portions? I notice you'd made a 4 egg omelette, which seems a lot. I'd only ever use 2 eggs in mine. You also refer to a 'large' and 'enormous' salad, so I"m wondering if overall this is an area to consider?
  • do you have a dairy problem? There's a fair bit of cheese going on
  • and you said loads of water - are you drinking the amount that you should be?

I suspect for you it's a matter of tweaking and patience!

Welcome @Katinkka! Of course you can post here. And well done Flowers

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 26/01/2019 17:31

Thanks Biwi I had a look at some recipes and there are pulses on BSD which I don't think are encouraged on bootcamp for meat eaters? So yes more carby I see. Also there is a distict lack of cream!

MrsKoala · 26/01/2019 17:42

Thanks @BIWI I do have quite large portions because I am hungry (i'm very tall and active). A 2 egg omelette just wouldn't fill me up. The salads are only leaves so while they are big I wouldn't have thought there would be anything in them that would be too damaging.

I've never had a dairy problem on this woe before and if I had to give up dairy I don't think i'd be able to carry on as it would be too miserable.

As for water, I don't do litres but I have a pint glass which I refill 8-10 times a day. That's got to be enough water hasn't it!? I also have 4-6 cups of herb tea and soda water.

BIWI · 26/01/2019 17:47

I think you need to re-think things. bit. If you're eating enough protein and especially fat, and keeping your carbs down, then you shouldn't really be that hungry. And yes, while there isn't much in lettuce leaves, presumably you'll be consuming a lot of dressing at the same time, which means a lot of calories! I know we don't count calories on Bootcamp, but that doesn't mean they're not important - this WOE isn't carte blanche to over-eat.

Also you don't have to have dairy to enjoy your food! Why don't you try a few days without and see what happens?

The water sounds fine - so I'd try and tackle the above.

OP posts:
tootstastic · 26/01/2019 17:59

I have to say I always have at least 3 eggs in an omelette or scramblies...and I have, on occasion, been known to have 4 to keep me full if I know I won't be able to eat until much later. So, I wonder if my portions are generally larger than average too?

MrsKoala · 26/01/2019 18:03

Also you don't have to have dairy to enjoy your food! SOB!!! i'm afraid I definitely need cheese to enjoy my life! The rest of the dairy family i'm not bothered about. But CHEESE. It means i'll need to give up omelettes because I can't stomach them without cheese. I just cant think of what else to eat. I don't have much time so I need quick things.

As for being hungry. I am still getting very - I know I shouldn't be. I have had a couple of 2 egg omelettes and am hungry 2 hours later. and Eggs are only 100 calories so I thought 2 more would be better than munching on processed meat or cheese. I had a pork curry and cauli rice for lunch at 2.30pm today and am ravenous now. I am trying to go longer between eating but I am hungry a lot of the time.My calories must be much lower than I was eating before which is why I am surprised I haven't lost more weight.

BIWI · 26/01/2019 18:05

Well it depends what else you're eating during the day @tootstastic

One other thing I'd say @MrsKoala is that it looks as if you're having 3 big meals a day, so overall it could just be that you're consuming too many calories - especially if, as you admit, you serve large portions.
