I love this week - when we find out how much people have lost, and all those of you who haven't really believed it will work are proved wrong!

Here's the spreadsheet

I hope that the scales have been kind to you, or that your measurements have gone down and your clothes are feeling looser!

I look forward to hearing about everyone's progress.

Here's to a great week 2 as well

So much happier now I’ve read these posts! My weight is all over the shop this week...I put on 3lbs overnight Confused but looks like that’s not too unusual.

I didn’t think about wine today...but could now murder a Grand Marnier Hmm

Condamine · 25/01/2019 22:01

Have you noticed on tv they are always eating carbs and drinking wine?
Keeps starting up my cravings!

m0therofdragons · 25/01/2019 22:21

Just getting home from Panto and I'm peckish. I will NOT have toast!

venusandmars · 25/01/2019 22:25

I'm a (very) long-term poster on the 'brave babes' thread in relationships. It's being going for years with support for people trying to reduce their drinking, or give it up altogether. I understand the challenge!

I was at a Burns Supper tonight. I had a small portion of haggis, and lots of mashed turnip (swede to those in the South). I added lot of butter to it, and I avoided the potatoes. My contribution to the dinner was a cream and mushroom gravy. I know it's not part of the traditional haggis, neeps and tatties, but it adds moisture and richness, particularly because I made it with lots of butter, and lots of cream Grin
But I now know that a belly full of haggis, a litre and a half of water, followed by vigorous dancing is not a good mix - feel rather sick [green]

Well done everyone staying focussed after slip ups with food & drink. For me, that's the hardest time to maintain resolve so I'm really impressed.

I'm not a drinker myself, just a bit here and there but I understand the difficulty to an extent because I have the same 'can't have one' issue with sweet treats. Not quite the same I know.

Tonight my DH is away and I'm home alone with DD 8 months. I'd normally get a pizza and tub of Ben&Jerrys as I'm crap on my own and need something to make the night pass. Tonight I made a cauliflower pizza base and after browsing the freezer aisle managed to NOT buy the box if frozen chocs, fro yo, discounted magnums or eclairs. Bloody hell that was hard. I know that because I'm not eating that stuff, if it was in the house I would have eaten everything until it was all gone. I don't have an off switch.

After a few slip ups in week 1 & seeing the direct result on the scales, I'm getting really good at saying to myself 'it's not worth it' as I know the pleasure I get from .5-1lb off is better than a cheap sweet treat!

B courgette fritters
L was out for lunch with v limited options. Went for a large salad but didn't realise it came smothered in hummus.
S cauliflower pizza.
W 2.4+ a few extra glasses.

prettybird · 25/01/2019 23:08

I'm having my Burns Supper tomorrow night. I actually started Boot Camp a few days early specifically because of Burns Night Blush but as it happened, we got given tickets to the Warriors game tonight, so we've moved the dinner to tomorrow Smile

Will be having a tower of seared scallops, goats cheese and Stornoway black pudding on a bed of puréed with cream cauliflower, and then a heritage haggis from M&S with a giant mound of very buttery neeps (dh will also have mashed potato). Dessert will be a variation of cranachan using toasted flaked almonds rather than oats, washed down with too much some very nice wine.

WhatTheFronti · 26/01/2019 03:14

I can sympathise with the daily drinkers. I can ignore sweets and bread but I am a fool for wine. It doesn't help my whole life pretty much revolves around grapes. I've had to set myself strict limits (no drinking from Sunday dinner time to Friday lunch time. Only one bottle per weekend (750ml between 2 ppl) - this makes me very picky about what I drink. No drinking if driving (not even small one). I also tend to have two dry months a year, when DH is working so much I'm largely solely responsible for kids so it's out of the question... ...but it's still so hard to do. One day at a time....

Onto food...

B - herb cream cheese, prosciutto parcels, coffee x 2
L - poached chicken, mayo, avo, cheese, leaves salad
D - " naked" chicken parmigiana, green veg (dH will have oven fries)

Am going to have a almond milk frappe with whip cream this arvo too...

Lost 2 inches of waist so YAy!!

Foreverlexicon · 26/01/2019 06:15

I have a few questions...I’ve been lurking and thinking of taking the plunge as I need to lose about 2 stone but really struggle with calorie counting etc. This is appealing to me as I’ve previously had disordered eating and I don’t think I’ve EVER embraced eating full fat so I feel like that would make me not feel deprived as I can eat lots of yummy stuff that I’ve never allowed myself to. I’m not very fussed about pasta/rice/potatoes but I have a horrible sweetooth which is completely out of control so I feel like this might work well for me to reset that.

My questions are;
Is alcohol a massive no go? I’ve read some people are drinking but how much of a hindrance is it? Would white wine or spiced rum and Diet Coke be okay? I don’t drink often but I am in the early stages of dating and do tend to have a few drinks with friends once a month or so which frankly I don’t want to give up as I enjoy it too much and soon a career change means I’m moving about 100 miles from them so want to make the most!

Second question is how tricky is eating out? As I said, I’m dating and frankly early on I don’t want to look fussy or ‘boring’?

nowlook · 26/01/2019 07:09

@Foreverlexicon From reading all the posts on this thread and the week 1 thread, I understand that you should avoid alcohol completely in the first two weeks of Bootcamp because your body will burn the alcohol first before it gets round to burning the food you've eaten. Drinking alcohol will slow your progress and you might not get a motivating weight loss in the first couple of weeks.

Once you're through the first two weeks (or even before), you may find that something like rum and coke is unbearably cloying and sweet and that's kind of the point with this way of eating.

I'm new to this, so don't know how much alcohol you can have after the first two weeks...but vodka and soda with a squeeze of fresh lime seems to be the least-bad choice!

Eating out does take a bit more planning. You'll find yourself studying menus in advance and, even then, there's no guarantee that you won't be confronted by some unexpected sweet, sticky glaze. As I come to the end of the first two weeks, I've definitely found it easier to be a bit of a hermit save where absolutely necessary.

If you don't get disheartened, perhaps Bootcamp Lite would better suit your lifestyle at this point? Totally get you about not wanting to appear weird in front of the new beau. Hopefully, @BIWI and @StuntNun will have the answers!

In the meantime, have a good mooch through both the threads and all the tabs on the spreadsheets. It's not the easiest thing in the world at first, but there is a fuckton of support here!

BIWI · 26/01/2019 07:26

Welcome @Foreverlexicon

This is a great way of eating if you want to enjoy food and not feel deprived. And Bootcamp has been devised so that you don't need to count calories or carbs.

However, there's no diet in the world - sadly! - that will allow you to drink whatever alcohol you want/whenever you want, so it's all about moderation.

On Bootcamp , for the first two weeks you can't drink any alcohol. This is because the first two weeks are designed to help you get your body burning fat as quickly as possible, rather than carbs. Adding alcohol into the mix will only delay this process because whenever there's alcohol, that's what your body will burn first, rather than either carbs or fat.

As @nowlook also explains, the other part of this strict two week period is to help your body adjust to moving away from sweet things. It's amazing how your taste buds will change in just a short period of time!

So it is better to avoid alcohol in the first two weeks - and especially if you need the motivation of seeing the scales move! That said, if you do Bootcamp Light, then you can have the occasional drink, and here we're talking dry wine, and/or spirits with either soda or zero calorie mixers. (The latter is something we also try and avoid on Bootcamp however - be warned that your body can respond to artificial sweeteners as if they are sugar).

But

What worries me about your post is that you talk about previous disordered eating. It's very, very important that you don't revert to that - not having to count anything might help you - but I try as much as possible to ensure that people on Bootcamp eat as normally as possible - the only difference being that instead of eating a diet which is high carb/medium protein/low fat, we switch that round to high fat/medium protein/low carb.

This is about eating good quality, unprocessed food, with plenty of vegetables and salad, with good fats like butter, full fat yoghurt and extra virgin olive oil.

If that sounds like it would work for you - then jump in!

StuntNun · 26/01/2019 07:31

Forever I think Nowlook answered your questions perfectly. Alcohol can massively reduce your rate of weight loss because it prevents fat burning and it is calorific. Do you really feel you can't stop drinking for two weeks? If not then I recommend putting a strict limit on alcohol, either no more than x units per week or only on one/two days each week. Eating out is generally okay although there are some places where you will have to choose the "least worst" item on the menu. Low carb is more mainstream now so most places will swap chips/potatoes for salad/another vegetable or serve you a "bunless" burger.

Foreverlexicon · 26/01/2019 07:51

Thank you very much!
I certainly can stop drinking for 2 weeks - I was more thinking long term rather than 2 weeks. This is literally a monthly/6 weekly thing when our shifts line up. Beyond that I might have a glass or two of wine another two times a month or so, so I’m really not a heavy drinker. I just wasn’t sure how much this needs to be ‘all or nothing’ if you see what I mean.

I will keep musing! I still have almost a week until payday and I need to do a good shop before I start. Bootcamp light might be a better option. I don’t think this would trigger previous issues - I have absolutely no problem with restricting anymore, it’s more
counting stuff makes me a bit obsessive and then I binge to rebel rather then overrestrict which is why I’m thinking low carb might be worth a go.

MrsKoala · 26/01/2019 08:09

Thanks for the soda stream advice @BIWI . I am trying to reduce all our plastics but so far all I've managed is to swap from handwash gel to hard soap and from shampoo and conditioner in bottles to bars from lush (which isn't as good and takes 3 times as long in the shower). The food packaging we have is ridiculous. Anyway - sorry for the derail.

I'm feeling disheartened now as I've just weighed myself and I haven't lost anything more. So for the 2 weeks I've been doing this I've only lost 2lb. I haven't lost any inches either - if anything I feel bigger. I don't know what's going wrong. I didn't expect big losses but I don't understand why I've not had any this week and such a small loss last week. I haven't cheated once and from what I know have been really sticking to it. Harrumph!

BIWI · 26/01/2019 08:11

Well, you know the drill @MrsKoala! List out for me your last few days' worth of meals, and also what you've been drinking and let's see if we can identify anything

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 26/01/2019 08:54

Been feeling a bit under the weather last few days so nothing exciting to report food wise as appetite has been low and could only face very bland light food (all low carb still). Feeling a bit more perkier this morning but loking forward to week 3 as really am fancying some berries.

.

Can anyone tell me the difference between bootcamp and Blood Sugar Diet other then BSD being a limit of 800 calories a day and bootcamp being less calorie counting orientated?

Katinkka · 26/01/2019 09:01

Don’t know if I’m ok to post here as I started this but did eat some carbs in the first week but have cut them out now. Anyway. Today is my weigh in day from when I personally started low carbing and I’ve lost 8lbs! 4 this week and 4 last week. I’m thrilled. Another 6 stone or so to go!

nowlook · 26/01/2019 09:27

@MrsKoala

Boiled eggs with green bean soldiers is inspired!

venusandmars · 26/01/2019 09:34

B - omelette with cheese and vegetables
L - chicken, avocado, salad
D - salmon, stir fry veg

m0therofdragons · 26/01/2019 09:52

Feeling slimmer this morning but the scales haven't budged. Can't find a tape measure but I'll see how tight my jeans are in a minute.

Crazy morning ferrying dd1 to swimming, shops and a party but this afternoon is calmer with dd2&3 going to soft play. They're 7.5 so just go and play but won't want to go for much longer so seemed a good idea. Lots of cakes there at ridiculous prices so I know it's safe Grin

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 26/01/2019 10:16

If you want a real treat you can make asparagus soldiers wrapped in prosciutto or streaky bacon. I do that on the weekends where I’m making egg and soldiers for my OH and really fancy toast myself and it means I don’t miss it at all.

Cheeseandapple · 26/01/2019 10:31

Meant to say thank you to the two posters with tips for not ordering sweet food while out. I like both ideas and will bear in mind.

I'm frustrated this morning as I'm a daily weigher and had my first 'gain' since starting. How long does food eaten take to show on the scales ie should I be looking at yesterday's food or previous day/s?

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 26/01/2019 10:40

Not strictly bootcamp, but when I go out to eat whilst lowcarbing, I like to have a coffee after my meal, with some baileys or whisky or similar in it. Sweet and tasty enough to be a treat, and has that same feel of a good, relaxed ending to a meal, but a lot less dangerous than an actual pudding.

AandL · 26/01/2019 11:21

@m0therofdragons I feel the same, after a jump up I am now measuring a loss as of this morning of half a pound this week, but went to gym this morning and feel I look much slimmer in my workout leggings.
Not sure what I'll eat today....I did my TM intervals this morning fasted, had a creamy coffee after and am going to have "brunch" now.
Thanks for the suggestion up-thread of pate on cheese slices, I went one further yesterday and made cheese crisp in my George Foreman and has my chicken liver parfait on those - delicious!
