Week 2 - January Low Carb Bootcamp - my favourite week!

BIWI · 20/01/2019 23:10

I love this week - when we find out how much people have lost, and all those of you who haven't really believed it will work are proved wrong!

Here's the spreadsheet

I hope that the scales have been kind to you, or that your measurements have gone down and your clothes are feeling looser!

I look forward to hearing about everyone's progress.

Here's to a great week 2 as well

I've completely lost any desire to eat sweet things.

My DC toasted a cinnamon raisin bagel, and it smelled overpoweringly sweet in the kitchen, like a cake was baking. I didn't like it.

This is a shock!

AandL · 23/01/2019 20:59

Sending you good news vibes @whatthreewords

Having a bit of a rough day, a real binge triggery one, spent my day off work going here there & bloody everywhere, feeling overstretched & sorry for myself.
BUT finished day with a walk & a bath and now sitting with fizzy water and my book.

Just creamy coffee this morning after yesterday evenings excesses
L leftover cauli ruce, japanese curry aauce & 2 chicken thighs
D pulled pork burrito bowl

Mimosa1 · 23/01/2019 22:02

Omg pork belly where have you been all my life? Just had a small roast with cracking and it was delicious!m and far easier to cook than I'd originally thought just bung in the oven with some oil on a high heat. Yum.

Tomorrow, I need to eat more veg and drink more water as I'm still up 500g but I'm really enjoying the food on this woe. The fact that it's cold is also making it easier to avoid my Diet Coke addiction!

I'm doing BC light this week as I'm under the weather and my raspberries tasted shockingly sweet this evening.

What's RED Feb? Is it like C25K? Congratulations to all the new runners, it's a huge achievement.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 23/01/2019 22:06

Aaargh... I stink..
Im pretty sure I'm not imagining it, I've washed my hands a million times today and there's just this odd smell coming from them and me... I'm losing weight steadily, eating well, possibly not drinking enough water though, or getting enough sleep, as work is just so busy..I am clean though I promise! Googling tells me you can get keto breath but also Blush body odour... Help!

BrassicaBabe · 23/01/2019 22:17

@Mimosa1 RED is "run every day". The charity MIND is behind it. I think. Or at least they are at the forefront. It's a January thing. And I think they watered it down this year from running every day to "active" every day. I think some folks, like me, have found it helpful in January and are considering keeping going in February

venusandmars · 23/01/2019 22:17

@MrsTerryPratcett I have swapped haloumi and paneer for years in Indian cooking - my favourite mutter paneer (cheese and peas curry)is made with haloumi, so I imagine you can swap them the other way round too.

@cheeseandapple I know we're not allowed nuts in the first 2 weeks of boot camp, but after that take a limited number of macadamia nuts with you (I always stick to 3) then at least you can have something to nibble on if others are tucking into cake.

BrassicaBabe · 23/01/2019 22:23

If my nightime scales are to be believed (I'm pretty good at forecasting now) I'll have put on weight again tomorrow. I'll be only 2lbs off where I started 1st Jan. And 7lbs of that was supposed to be "quick on quick off". I've been doing LCHF since Sept '17 joining BC in the October. While I'm no expert I've felt confident in what I'm doing. Now the wheels are falling off. Should I stop posting? I don't want to derail the new folks. I don't need a stick. Miserable Sad

MrsTerryPratcett · 23/01/2019 22:44

Don't stop posting @BrassicaBabe it's actually nice for those of us not dropping 7 lb a week to have company!

Thanks @venusandmars and others. Will try the paneer!

BIWI · 23/01/2019 23:22

No don't stop posting @BrassicaBabe! Let us help you - and this is a place where you can moan away to your heart's content.

I promise I won't wield the big stick Smile

Take a step back. Go and have another look at the rules and make sure you're following them properly. Remember that this way of eating is high fat/medium protein/low carb, and make sure that your meals are built around that.

And - who knows - you might be wrong about your scales!!!!

Ah avocados! Yesterday as hard as a rock, today brown mush. So annoying!

tootstastic · 24/01/2019 07:30

Thanks @Batshittery and I'm sure your lb is just a daily weigher's glitch that will soon right itself.

@ilovecherries your running is amazing and @BIWI well done on starting back running. I started running a couple of years ago when I'd lost about this much weight and ended up with a nasty foot injury about 4 months in and had to stop. So, I'm a bit scared of doing it again. I really should though, as I only do the gentle yoga type classes at the gym and really need some cardio. I think when I've lost a bit more I should reconsider.

@BrassicaBabe Sorry you're having a tough time at the moment. Is it worth tracking what you eat on something like my fitness pal, just to see if there's anything you've not spotted? Or try totally changing what you're eating, thinking if your body has got too used to things, it might be stalling. Just don't give up and please let posting, this is when you most need us lot.

tootstastic · 24/01/2019 07:31

*keep posting

StuntNun · 24/01/2019 07:47

Do I win a prize for the first Bootcamp-related injury? I sustained a nasty cut yesterday from the food processor while making cauliflower rice. Blush Funny, I always thought celeriac was the most risky vegetable for a klutz like me.

ChangoMutney · 24/01/2019 07:52

I’m inspired to make a Thai beef salad after a friend mentioning it in passing but all the recipes include sugar, doe anyone know of a LC method?

Rshard · 24/01/2019 07:54

Oh no @stuntnun! Hope it’s not too bad? I had a similar thing last January, making cauliflower rice.

Definitely keep posting here @brassica, always lots of support around

tootstastic · 24/01/2019 08:01

@StuntNun you definitely deserve a prize! That's practically a sports injury and shows true dedication to the cause Wink

BIWI · 24/01/2019 08:52

Ow @StuntNun! What on earth did you do?!

@tootstastic did you have any treatment for your foot? I injured myself the first time around when I was doing C25K - it turned out I wasn't stretching properly after the runs - but treatment from my osteopath sorted me out. But I did have to go right back to the beginning and start again so it was a gradual re-introduction, but that worked for me.

@ChangoMutney Thai food is one of the most difficult, because they do seem to use sugar in most things. That said, how much sugar is in the recipe? Work out the total amount of carbs for the dish, and then how many that would be per portion - and see if it's an acceptable amount of carbs.

Alternatively, you could try the dish without and see what it's like - or substitute the sugar with a powdered sweetener.

To be honest, at this stage of Bootcamp I'd suggest you don't make it, but later on you could do this.

Kleptronic · 24/01/2019 09:05

I use Stevia in Thai cooking, after the 2 weeks are up obviously.

I'm not doing so well this Bootcamp, put a pound on, haven't got my head in the game, failed to go running this week. I'm an old hand at this, I know what to do, so where the hell has my motivation gone, I want it back now please!

WhatThreeWords sending positive energy

I’ve been trying to catch up with the thread and copy/paste lovely meal ideas into my notes. Food last 2 days
B: 2 big mugs of green tea
L: chicken curry on a big pile of broccoli and beans ( both days)
D: big mixed salad with extra oil, mayo, boiled eggs and mayo OR h/m veg soup and fish balls with mayo, avocado

Today:
B: green tea and coffee
L: veg pot and 2 sausages
D: probably big chicken salad

E: did a session of JM Ripped on Monday for the first time and can def feel my abs crying. After 2 day rest will jump back in and plan to do either shred or 10 min transformation (30-40mins, will see)
Holiday is here in 3 weeks so have to step up the excercise. I’ve been thinking of light jog to mix up my routine but the cold weather keeps me indoors and I just do my excercise in front of tv instead

GuyMartinsSideburns · 24/01/2019 09:22

Morning

Biwi you’ll be pleased to know my fish last night was fried in butter, with a butter sauce and a massive salad.

I haven’t eaten yet as I’m out doing my errands but il have eggs of some sort when I get in. Lunch will be spinach soup, and I think I’m going to go and pick up some pork belly for dinner.

Well done to all the runners! I did a half marathon a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. Need to get back on it really.

I am so amazingly tired lately - yesterday I’d been up since 6 (had a fine nights sleep) but after the school run I went back to bed at 10 and slept til 11.30 😳 Last night I was asleep by 9 and up again at 6, I’m going to bed early most evenings. I do wonder if it’s just January - the seasons affect my moods terribly. Feel like I’m hibernating Grin

Hope you all have a good day Flowers

BIWI · 24/01/2019 09:29

@Mnandelinka why are you only having tea for your breakfast? And what kind of beans have you been eating?!

OP posts:
tootstastic · 24/01/2019 10:14

@BIWI yes, I had physio and they said it was a stress fracture down the outer edge of my left foot and just needed to rest it for 8 weeks. But it's carried on aching, much less now than it was, but I can still feel it. The specialist running shop thought my trainers may have been too low profile, so I have some higher profile ones now, but scared about running on it, especially whilst I'm still so heavy. I do want to get back to it though. I walk the dog anyway, so it would be easy to find the time. I was thinking maybe the treadmills at the gym might be a gentler way to start, but I've not tried that properly yet.

Just had a lovely breakfast of scrambled eggs, mushrooms, left-over roast chicken, spinach and cheddar, all fried in olive oil and butter and a giant mug of Rooibos.

I'm trying to make a giant mug of Rooibos and a pint of water every time I go into the kitchen when I'm at home, as I definitely need to up my water intake.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 24/01/2019 10:16

Very inspired by the runners! I started Couch to 5k a few years ago and loved it but it all fell apart. I much prefer running outdoors and there is no street lighting here so had to stop over winter. I also get shin splints very easily and have dodgy knees.
My favourite runs were in the countryside on soft ground but hard to do in winter with a full-time job.
It was great for mental health and losing weight though. Smile

How you are ok, Stuntnun!

venusandmars · 24/01/2019 10:18

Morning!
B - boiled agg and butter
L - vegetable soup, avocado, salad
D - chicken stir fry

Tomorrow evening I am going to a Burns' Supper. I will have no choice but to eat haggis! Often I opt for vegetarian haggis but I've looked at the nutrition info and that has more carbs than the regular meat version. My plan is to have a very small portion of haggis, a heap of turnip (swede) with lots of butter, and no potatoes. I will avoid the whisky, and maybe participate in some energetic dancing!

LazydaysofSummer · 24/01/2019 10:36

Just checking in, love reading everyone menus!

Yesterday
B: Scrambled egg with butter
L: Ham and cheese salad with mayo
D: Creamy chicken, leek and mushrooms with courgetti fried in butter with cumin, paprika and garlic

Today
B: Scrambled eggs with butter (It's easy to make at work!)
L: Tuna mayo with salad
D: Slow Cooked Beef Steak Chill (without kidney beans) with caulirice
S: Avocado

Weightloss seems to have slowed down a lot, but I'm actually feeling quite energized, compared to the usual me, which is great! Going to make the most of it by hitting the gym!
