General Bootcamp Chat

Morning all

Here's a brand new thread, for general Bootcamp chat - it could be about low carbing, or about anything else you want to chat about.

It's Christmas Eve, and I'm wearing my Christmas pyjamas, and about to head into the kitchen for the last bits of prep I'm planning on doing. We're waiting for my BIL to arrive, and then rather than cook we're going out for lunch. Tonight will be buffet/party food, as both my DC are at work and won't be here till late.

I have a few more gifts to wrap - I discovered a bag of things I'd bought very early and had hidden, which I'd then forgotten all about! But apart from that, it's pretty much all done.

Tomorrow's menu is a simple one - we don't have turkey, but we're having roast fillet of beef. I've already made some red wine gravy, and just need to do the veg - which will be asparagus, peas and onions and (a definite non-Bootcamp treat!) potatoes dauphinoise.

So that's it from me. I hope all of you have a happy and relaxing Christmas and that [santa] brings you everything you want Xmas Smile

Although I’ve never really come off bootcamp since I started it in May 2017, I think there has been a bit of slippage. No weight gain, but I feel I’m having 90% choc a bit too regularly the last few weeks, and dipping into the nuts too often, and I’m def feeling not quite right in the intestinal department. So I have less than two months till my breast reduction, where apparently I could lose anything up to 7lbs Shock. I’m going to take that time to absolutely focus, try to build some core strength as apparently a kettle will be hard to lift for a few days after, so god knows what getting out of bed will be like, and do lots of cardio for the anaesthetic. If I can dump a few pounds as well to get me down to 10.7 that will be a bonus. I’m still feeling narked that after 6 stone off I still have K cup boobs. Although now they are a 32K rather than a 40K, but really! Even the surgeon says they are rather ‘disproportionate’. But apparently with a reduction you get a free lift thrown in, so I can’t even imagine what I will look like!

BrassicaBabe · 29/12/2018 22:32

I've refilled my glycogen stores with something really heavy BIWI Sad I've fallen face first into carbs and haven't stopped. I feel rubbish for not moderating Sad A solid half stone on. I can literally feel it sat on me!

BIWI · 29/12/2018 23:31

Don't worry! Decide when you're back on the wagon. Plan and prepare for that and then do it!

Drink lots of water, make sure you're eating plenty of fat, keep your carbs as low as you can and do lots of (extra) exercise.

I echo what scfi says. Once I got under 14 stone - round about 13.10 iirc - I started to feel a lot better, both physically and emotionally. I was at the very top of the overweight category, but I suddenly fitted into size 18 clothes, and I didn’t feel I was fat at a level where society was censuring me, which meant I felt better out and about. I walked faster, slept better, reflux disappeared etc etc.

tootstastic · 30/12/2018 05:40

@ilovecherries I can see why you'd like another half stone off, but it's good to know that you can maintain even when you have a few choc/nuts treats. I am also 'blessed' with boobage and the same happened with me when I lost weight before, just the back measurement reduced, but not the cup. You will feel amazing once the op recovery process is over, you'll weigh less and I imagine you'll drop a dress size on the top half too. Lovely in time for the summer! Can I ask how tall you are? I seem to weigh a lot more, yet lots of size 18s are big on me, I'm getting in some 16s, but not all. I know this varies massively depending on differing shapes and the particular shop though. I'm 5' 7.5" and kind of hourglass in shape.

@BrassicaBabe This time of year there are so many food obstacles, don't beat yourself up, just draw a line under it and vow to get back to basics as soon as it's possible to do it. One slip won't hurt if you don't allow it to.

I was really cross with DH yesterday. We were visiting one of his relatives and a few weeks ago when he was arranging it, I asked if he'd say we'd arrive mid-afternoon for coffee, only staying a couple of hours, so wouldn't need feeding. I asked this as I'm self-conscious irl about dieting and don't like to announce it to all and sundry and they often cook totally carb-heavy meals pre-plated with no alternative. Bloody uncle announces in front of everyone what a shame it was they couldn't cook because of my dieting. Clearly DH had mentioned my diet instead of just saying we're popping for coffee! I smiled sweetly of course, but DH got a right earful in the car on the way home. They served cake, which I was fine saying no thank you to, just didn't want to be around the dining room table with food on a plate I couldn't eat and having to leave it and be given the third degree. Very indelicate of both DH and his uncle I thought, I was so embarrassed, but I guess this should all spur me on.

Does anyone else struggle with people knowing? I'd rather fly under the radar with it where possible. Close friends and family know, but I don't like mentioning it to anyone else.

Good day yesterday KOKO wise.

Rayna37 · 30/12/2018 08:09

After days of an upset stomach I'm now thinking that maybe it's due to all the junk I've been eating these last few weeks! I do actually tolerate carbs pretty well but my indulgence has escalated beyond those levels over the festive period and I'm getting fed up of feeling unwell. Going to aim for better diet and sugar free in the new year and then start the bootcamp which falls nicely after my birthday and the cupboards should be clearer!

CleverWittyUsername · 30/12/2018 08:44

Hi I'm fairly new to MN and HFLC but would like to join in when it starts please. I started LC about a month ago, dropped 6-7lbs quickly, but most of it's crept back on over Christmas as I allowed myself a few treats. I would be happy to lose a stone and a half, maybe even 2.

BIWI · 30/12/2018 09:40

You are very welcome!

I’m still aiming for 14th and actually this date is uswful as in the meantime have been learning about what challenges I will face.

This am I went for a muesli breakfast (Dorset cereals). I was tired and two bowls then led to some Christmas chocolate two hours later when others in the house were up (not just the kids) smoked salmon and (why not) some seeded toast, then snacking on banoffee pie by 11 am so for me see what happens when a few sneaky carbs come in- even if healthy.

I think I also start eating and open up my appetite.

I was very tired this morning - and had supper at 17:30 yesterday and whilst that works for some I think that left me too hungry this am. I do better with a meal before bed (although that goes against the usual advice).

So getting prepared .... tiredness also makes me massively crave carbs so managing sleep will be useful during boot camp (as well as any other time!)

ilovecherries · 30/12/2018 17:06

toots, I’m 5’7. I’ve actually commented before that I seemed always to need much bigger dress sizes than other people. At my heaviest (16.9), I was in a 24, pushing a 26. At 13.10 I was just getting into unstructured 18s. At 11.7 I was fairly comfortable in a 14 and I’m now at 10.13 mainly wearing 12s unless they are very structured. But I have always been surprised that other people seemed to be in smaller sizes at heavier weights. I used to think I had comparatively slim arms and legs, and must have carried all my weight in my body but I’m not even sure if that was the case as I’ve gone down 1.5 shoe sizes and all my rings are flying off.

ilovecherries · 30/12/2018 17:20

Re under the radar. I try very hard just to avoid conversations around food now as it invariably goes have you tried SW, WW, SS etc etc/all that fat is bad for you/you aren’t that big/you’ve lost enough/I made I specially/one piece won’t hurt/you mean you can’t eat xyz? Ad nauseum. I hate it, and try to stick to a firm ‘no thanks’ or ‘it looks lovely, but I’ve just eaten/am really full already’ etc. I stopped drinking completely at the same time as I started his though, and that one really freaks people out. To some degree my food weirdness is hidden behind the fact I don’t drink!

tootstastic · 31/12/2018 08:29

@ilovecherries that is odd about the dress size thing, I thought you must be much shorter than you are to be those sizes at those weights, but clearly not at 5.7. I know shops vary massively, so it could be that. Also, it could be the boob thing, or even how fitted you like to wear your clothes. I bought my brother's girlfriend, who looked a similar size to me, a jumper last Christmas and it was a lovely fit on me and she said it fitted her like a second skin and liked things much looser. I am pretty busty, but she has a really big bust, so maybe it is that?

I hear you on the people commenting thing. Everyone's a bloody nutrition expert when you mention dieting, aren't they! It drives me crazy. I think overweight people bring out the judgemental in others too.

BrassicaBabe · 31/12/2018 10:12

Thanks BIWI and toots. Tomorrow is the day for me. We had fish and chips two days ago. Pizza last night. Nothing too crazy planned for today. So hopefully carb fest is out of my system for a while. Tomorrow I plan to do my first run of "run every day in January". (I'm a runner anyway. Although I laugh at myself just saying that). I'll drink loads of water (which I hate doing) and get back on track. I'm about 10.6 today for most of 2018 I've been 9.6-9.10 Shock

Happy New Year folks

BIWI · 31/12/2018 10:18

Happy New Year to you too! And to all the other Bootcampers, of course.

We're having our usual party this evening, although already I've had 4 people let me know that they can't come because of illness Sad

I'm in that awful quandary of wondering just how much to cook - I have a terrible fear of not having enough food, but know that this always means I make too much! I have potentially two vegetarians coming, both of whom are a bit flaky, so I'm dithering about whether to cook a particular snacky/nibbly thing for them or not.

Thanks BIWI for taking on the task of heading up another bootcamp, I have read bits of the last one, and look fwd to participating fully in this one.
21/12 - 136.2 > 29/12 - 145.2! > 31/12 - 140.6
So back in right direction, shocking to see such a big gain in just 8 days though!
Just received new fitbit plus "keto reset instant pot cookbook" in post so feeling motivated.
Look fwd to chatting to you all and Happy New Year

Laska2Meryls · 01/01/2019 09:31

Thanks for all you do for BC BIWI and Happy New Year all..

Im really keen to get back to it and ill start early I think. I did sign up or the last BC but sadly due to family circumstances , thinking about my diet , just went right out of the window.. too many days sitting around hospitals and eating sandwiches instead of meals and then Christmas , which was difficult due to recent death of family member I have probably put a stone back on ( I dont know , maybe not that much , but haven't weighed yet ) ..

but I know what to do !

ilovecherries · 01/01/2019 10:38

Welcome back, laska. I’m starting today as well with strict bootcamp and also RED January. I want to be in absolute optimal condition for my surgery. It’s still 7 weeks away but starting to feel terrifyingly real.

At least I don’t have to face the horrors of Dry January. DH and I did it in 2017 and we were shocked at how much better we felt, so we never started again. Have just started our third dry year. Neither of us are committing to it forever, but at the moment, feel no need to start again.

Laska2Meryls · 01/01/2019 11:00

ooh RED January looks interesting..

BIWI · 01/01/2019 15:32

What's RED January?

OP posts:
Laska2Meryls · 01/01/2019 16:07

[[https://redtogether.co.uk/ This is It...Red January , promoting good mental health support through exercise]] Looks good, you only have to sign up to being active each day.. In whatever way you can to improve your own well being.

I am not keen on any organised sport at all, as hate the competitive element , but I am going to walk down to the the sea and do a coastal walk each day ( its about a mile down there one way and can be up to 12 miles other ways from here . I'm aiming to do at least 2-3 ml a day after work )

ilovecherries · 01/01/2019 17:25

I had forgotten how strict bootcamp makes you pee. All. The. Time. Convincing myself I must have pee’d half a stone off today. Have added a lot of low salt to the veggies for dinner.

tootstastic · 01/01/2019 19:02

Hey Happy New Year Bootcampers!!

I have spent most of the day decorating again, but broke off for a lovely roast leg of lamb with sprouts and lots of butter.

I've been teetotal since the start of the last bootcamp, so this was my first 1st jan without a hangover, which was nice.

I seem to have stalled weight loss wise, which is a bit frustrating after being so good over Christmas. Not lost anything in over a week now...v unusual, as I've been losing 1-3lbs a week for nearly 3 months. I suspect I'm not drinking enough water, as I'm out of my routine, so wonder if it's that?

Hope everyone's had a lovely NYD!

Rshard · 01/01/2019 19:28

Happy New Year everyone!

I’m looking forward to the start of the new boot camp but am actually going to start tomorrow.

Doilooklikeatourist · 02/01/2019 08:05

Back on the wagon today ( well , started yesterday , but I was afraid to step on the scale )
I’ve put 5lb on over Christmas and new year , and I’m planning to get rid of it ASAP

My plan today is to do loads of housework , go to town and restock the green veg and butter

I fancy getting some of the herb teas to drink in the evening , obviously there’s no alcohol for a while and cold water isn’t very appealing 😀

BIWI · 02/01/2019 08:23

Morning all. Not quite ready to step back onto the Bootcamp wagon - now all the festivities are over, and I've stopped catering for everyone, I'm easing myself into things gently! The next few days are for me. Several things I have to do, but also planning what we're going to eat next week. I want to introduce some different dishes into my repertoire as I'm getting bored of what DH and I have been cooking. As from next Monday DH and I are also going alcohol-free for the rest of the month. Nowhere near as laudable as @ilovecherries! But it will be a very good thing - as well as a challenge. I'm really pleased that DH has agreed to do this as well, as it will make it much easier.
