General Bootcamp Chat

Morning all

Here's a brand new thread, for general Bootcamp chat - it could be about low carbing, or about anything else you want to chat about.

It's Christmas Eve, and I'm wearing my Christmas pyjamas, and about to head into the kitchen for the last bits of prep I'm planning on doing. We're waiting for my BIL to arrive, and then rather than cook we're going out for lunch. Tonight will be buffet/party food, as both my DC are at work and won't be here till late.

I have a few more gifts to wrap - I discovered a bag of things I'd bought very early and had hidden, which I'd then forgotten all about! But apart from that, it's pretty much all done.

Tomorrow's menu is a simple one - we don't have turkey, but we're having roast fillet of beef. I've already made some red wine gravy, and just need to do the veg - which will be asparagus, peas and onions and (a definite non-Bootcamp treat!) potatoes dauphinoise.

So that's it from me. I hope all of you have a happy and relaxing Christmas and that [santa] brings you everything you want Xmas Smile

Merry Christmas :-)

I'm eagerly awaiting the next bootcamp, having missed the last one (new job, moved house, majorly stressful time tbh!).

Now ready to get back on it :-)

See you in the new year x

tootstastic · 24/12/2018 23:16

Thanks for the chat thread @BIWI

Merry Christmas everyone, hope you're all having a fab Christmas Eve. Just been tiptoeing and sneaking about the house like a ninja Santa filling stockings and sacks and getting them back into DD's bedroom without waking her.

So, my plan is to stick to LC as best I can over Christmas. This is mainly due to previous dieting attempts failing spectacularly at this time of year. This time, I just want to keep going until the next bootcamp and beyond if it's possible, well until all my excess weight is off (131lbs to lose altogether and I've lost almost a quarter of it....32.2 lost, 98.8lbs left to lose).

Pleased with today. I have been hitting the sparkling water hard and managed plain lettuce duck wraps for dinner when everyone else was eating glazed crispy duck with hoisin sauce and pancakes.

Feeling strong right now, but will see how the hardest day of the year goes tomorrow. Fingers crossed! Have a great day everyone.

Feelingfortyisntfun · 25/12/2018 15:08

I wonder if I may join the next one from the start.

Christmas time has been wonderful lots of feasting - but made me realise how much I overeat (on carbs) and how sluggish I feel following that way of life.

Happy Christmas everyone though

BIWI · 25/12/2018 22:00

Of course you can! You will be very, very welcome.

Happy Christmas to you too.

Probably tomorrow too , then back on it til NYE

Feelingfortyisntfun · 25/12/2018 22:32

Actually looking forward to it thank you 🙏

Rshard · 25/12/2018 22:37

Thanks for the thread BIWI.

I failed miserably at the last boot camp, could make excuses but was mainly just crap. I’m planning on starting over on the 27th.

Merry Christmas all Xmas Smile

tootstastic · 25/12/2018 22:54

@Doilooklikeatourist I wish I had your ability to have days off and get back to plan afterwards. Unfortunately I think I have to be an abstainer until I can learn to moderate myself.

But the good news is that I've made it through today without falling face first into the Christmas dinner carbs.

Breakfast: Smoked Salmon and scrambled eggs.

Then onto Christmas Dinner at a relatives house:

Starter: Prawns with Mayo, instead of smoked salmon blinis and prawn cocktail.

Dinner: Turkey and veg and a couple of pigs in blankets, passing on the roast potatoes, stuffing, gravy, parsnips, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and bread sauce.

Dessert: strawberries and blueberries with double cream, then cheese no crackers, instead of Christmas pud, Yule log and mince pies.

Drinks: Sparkling water, Rooibos tea and black coffee, passing on the usual gin and tonic, prosecco and red wine.

I'm relieved to have navigated around my usual pitfalls and reckon, if I can get through today after being bombarded with food, I can get through the next couple of weeks.

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/12/2018 23:10

@tootastic , that’s the plan... we’ll see what happens in reality 👍

tootstastic · 25/12/2018 23:22

Good luck then, hope you manage it!

chocolateavocado99 · 26/12/2018 04:25

Thanks for this thread- it is just what I need right now.
I am planning on low carving again beginning in January. I lost about 30 lbs many years ago but then got pregnant and was convinced that my baby needed carbs. I never went back to the woe. Youngest is now 6 and I am ready to make myself a priority!
Is there a sign up sheet for the next bootcamp? Thanks.

chocolateavocado99 · 26/12/2018 04:26

Carbing...stupid auto correct!

BIWI · 26/12/2018 09:27

No sign-up thread yet, but the next one will start on 14 Jan Smile

bIwi how long did it take you to all those spread sheets ? - wow thank you for setting this all up and supporting folks, really really kind of you!

prettybird · 26/12/2018 10:27

So far, navigating Christmas temptations quite Xmas Wink well.

Had Christmas Eve "off" while I had one very small because the home grown potatoes broke up as they were being parboiled roast potato, a very small amount of stuffing (which had breadcrumbs in it) and a small amount of gravy, alongside the parsnips with chestnuts, Savoy cabbage with pancetta, brined roast turkey and ham.

Did have two portions of the Danish Christmas price pudding though Xmas Blush - but that was because we were trying to find the single whole almond - and failed because someone must have eaten it by accident Xmas Hmm

Starter was tomato and mint soup but I didn't have the roll.

Yesterday had one pain au chocolat and three Christmas muffins (Nigella's recipe) Xmas Blush - but dinner was nice and HFLC: smoked salmon followed by cold turkey and ham (avoided more roast potatoes) with Savoy cabbage and parsnips again (both home grown). Decided we were full enough not to have the Christmas pudding and just finished off with a half round of Epoisses amongst the three of us.

I am of course not counting all the wine we had Xmas BlushXmas Grin

The Quality Street tin had been opened - and I haven't had a single one Xmas Smile yet Xmas Wink

chocolateavocado99 · 26/12/2018 10:37

Ok thank you.

BIWI · 26/12/2018 11:48

I can't take the credit for the spreadsheet! It's a work of art created by the lovely Bootcampers who have worked on it over the years.

Paisleyday · 26/12/2018 15:22

any reason why it starts on the 14th?

Ragwort · 26/12/2018 15:32

Happy Christmas Biwi, I did brilliantly on the boot camp in the late spring/summer but failed miserably on the pre Christmas one. I am making a commitment to re-join on 14 Jan and DH says he also wants to do it. Thank you Smile.

Doilooklikeatourist · 26/12/2018 16:11

@Paisley , I think the start date is so everything has been eaten , and there’s not a mince pie waiting to tempt us
( and also to give us time to lose the weight we’ve ( I’ve ) put in since the last Bootcamp ended 👍)

Tilliiii · 26/12/2018 16:24

I do paleo so will be interested to join new bootcamp.

Scifi101 · 26/12/2018 17:25

I lost weight on Monday and Tuesday (2lb each day) so decided not to go off plan for Xmas !

I had dip and cauliflower, cucumber, and celery. Strawberries and raspberries and cream. Meat free tesco hot dog sausages. Nuts.

Didn't lose weight when I weighed this morning but after the previous losses I wasn't surprised.

I've been low carbing and following the threads in here since summer 2017. I've lost six stone but spent the last year putting on and taking off her same 10lbs.

Going to try to use the support and ideas on the threads to get the last stone off.

So grateful to @BIWI for educating me about low carb.

OohOohMrPeevly · 26/12/2018 17:38

I'd love to join too please as I want to lose 7 pounds in January. Looking forward to getting started!

DangerousMouse · 26/12/2018 18:46

I'll be back with you in January, I dropped 3 dress sizes a few years ago but haven't kept it up, I find it really difficult as a vegetarian, but I'm determined to get back on it again!

BIWI · 26/12/2018 18:52

Because that's when I've decided I have the time to do it, @paisleyday. Is that ok with you? Hmm
