Good morning all, for the final Monday of this Bootcamp.

Here's the spreadsheet for its last outing!

I hope very much that the last ten weeks have been successful for everyone - whether that's on the scales, seeing your clothes fit better, better health and general enjoyment of your food!

I'll keep this chat thread going, and when it's full, will start another one until we start the next Bootcamp, which will start in mid-October.

Morning all!

A very sweaty work out class for me last night meant I lost 2lbs this morning, doubt it will stick but you never know!

Lonesurvivor I agree with the sugar being everywhere. I brought some raw bars from Aldi the other week. All they have in them are dates and cashews so thought they would be a good emergency low carb snack. 12g of sugar per bar and the bars are tiny.

Laska5772 · 11/09/2018 20:44

Good day today Smile

ok maybe a bit too much cheese and a Wine but otherwise..

Really looking forward to new Bootcamp..

Lonesurvivor · 11/09/2018 22:23

Did they add some sort of sugar product to make them stick 3stonedown*? I wonder will manufacturers ever catch up with not adding. Some sort of sugars/sweetners to everything.
Well done on a good day laska
I'm on day 3 and very pleased with how it's going except for a constant dull headache which I know will pass. I've tried a number of times in the last few weeks to restart this woe and ended up giving into cravings each time. Funny now I've had very little cravings this past few days only an odd fleeting pang. It's definitely a case of mind over matter so far, I know I'm not going to give in so I don't entertain the craving and it passes. I don't know where the determination comes from or where it disappears to so often but I'd love it to be more frequent in my lifeGrin

Having said that I've been more successful this year in losing weight and maintaining most of it than I have in a long time so maybe I can tentatively think I'm starting to change my way of thinking. So many times I started LCHF in the few weeks, so many times I couldn't do it and swore that was my last attempt and yet here I am. The same happened in May. I'd previously been on a months low carb in March, spent April trying and failing and saying never again and was able to start again in May and stay on for over 3 months. Each time I kept most of the weight off inbetween.
There's something about LCHF that keeps bringing me back.

Rayna37 · 11/09/2018 22:35

3stonedown and Lonesurvivor it's not really hidden sugar in the raw bars: dates are basically nature's toffee. Pure natural sugar.

Rshard · 12/09/2018 04:54

Well done 3stone, fingers crossed for that 2lb!

I’m looking forward to boot camp starting too laska

You sound really in control lone

I had a prawn cocktail salad from Leon yesterday, really nice and only 6.1grams of carbs

3stonedown · 12/09/2018 07:58

Yes lonesurvivor and rayna no added sugar I just didn't realise how much sugar are in dates! I'll keep them as a treat.

2lb still stuck today very happy.

I need to go for a buggy run this morning and completely procrastinating. Haven't ran for 11 days which is my longest since starting c25k in Jan and I have a 10k at the weekend

Lonesurvivor · 12/09/2018 08:27

I hadn't realised there was that much sugar in dates either! Well done with the 2 down, enjoy the run.

Does anyone have a recipe for a low carb nutty bar? I'm sure I've seen some before in the threads but couldn't find it on spread sheet.

BrassicaBabe · 13/09/2018 00:24

May I jump in to ask a question?

I did my first BC last October. I've been at goal weight for a while now so didn't join this BC. But I stick to this woe. I hope I'm a life long convert. Between BC and taking up running via C25K I'm the slimmest and healthiest I've ever been!

My question though is about planned cheating. A few weeks ago we had fish and chips. So high carb high fat! Within an hour I had to go to the loo. Ok. Not pleasant but didn't last long. I felt fine except for the urgent gurgling tummy! Then tonight we've been out for a curry. No rice or bhaji for me but I did treat myself to a naan. Again, I've got home and had another explosive loo moment.

Can anyone help me understand what's going on? I very nearly got caught out! TIA

StuntNun · 13/09/2018 06:37

Brassica could you be sensitive to the wheat in the batter and the naan? I didn't know I had a problem with wheat until I gave it up for Bootcamp.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 13/09/2018 11:43

Brassica, I have a similar issue and suspect an intolerance to wheat. It hits me with breaded products as well as the obvious bakery items.

prettybird · 13/09/2018 13:26

Just back from a very pleasant coffee with the lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready Brew She has the most gorgeous mellifluous voice. Smile

It's really nice to meet real life BootCampers - all the ones I've met (along with all the other MNers I've met) have been lovely.

We spent most of the time swapping cat stories - but I was able to give her a wee bit of advice about shopping streets in Glasgow Grin and how to get into John Lewis from Buchanan Street WinkConfused

BrassicaBabe · 13/09/2018 13:33

Thanks @StuntNun and @boldlygoingsomewhere a wheat intolerance fits the bill. Have I bought it on myself by cutting out bread etc? I'm v happy with this as a WOE 95% of the time. But now I'm at goal I'd like to factor in the occasional falling off of the wagon!! (Although praise be it's not a Wineintolerance Grin)

With the fish and chip incident we were on the beach. Thankfully it was deserted because when the urge hit I headed back to the car with the intention of going down the road to the public loos. I didn't make it and had to run into the undergrowth!! BlushGrin

StuntNun · 13/09/2018 14:47

It's difficult to say Brassica as it's likely that your body isn't producing digestive enzymes for wheat anymore and possibly your gut flora has also changed in response to cutting out grains. So if you were to more regularly have wheat in your diet then you could reasonably expect your tolerance to increase.

MostlyHungryAgain · 13/09/2018 16:23

Hello all, hoping I can join in.
I did low carb last year and while I only lost a few kg, lots of people were commenting on it and I think my shape changed a lot. I'm vegetarian so it was a bit of a hassle as you have to make more effort I think, but anyway, fell off the wagon and have just come back from a very high carb holiday (pizzas/sandwiches at every meal) and I feel GROSS!!

I have never seen my stomach so big and every time I catch a glimpse of myself I am disgusted!

So, have just done a shop for almond flour and all the bits I need to make low carb bread tomorrow, and have had veg burgers with salad for dinner. Back on it and hoping it kicks in quickly!! thanks for the thread.

colouringinpro · 13/09/2018 16:59

Hi again. Well I'm very pleased to be down to 10 stone 3 from 11 stone (end of July) not bootcamping strictly (some wine!) But fairly close I think. This week though I've been hungry a lot/craving carbs more (hormones not helping). I need to learn some more recipes but just wanted to check I'm eating right please.

B Greek yogurt
L tin mackerel mixed with desertspoon mayo, spinach and cuc salad with dressing
D chicken and mushroom curry (spoon curry paste, half Tom tomatoes, creme fraiche. Broccoli.

B Greek yogurt
L 2 boiled eggs, slice ham, cucumber and small tomato
D white fish with cheese sauce, broccoli, round green beans

B Greek yogurt
L 2 chicken drumsticks, avocado, spinach, salad dressing
D Courgetti with roasted veg and feta

Brunch Bacon, eggs, sausage, mushrooms, tomato
Snack milk, strawberries
Dinner Waitrose ready made red Thai curry (20g carb) broccoli, courgette

B 2 boiled eggs
L 2 chicken drumsticks, romaine lettuce with salad dressing
D delicious steak with large mushroom and veg.

I realise I'm eating a limited range of foods too...

Any suggestions very much appreciated

BrassicaBabe · 13/09/2018 17:24

Thanks Stuntnun. It looks like I'm going to have to be very careful in my location choice for my next planned cheat HmmGrin

ajandjjmum · 13/09/2018 18:46

Could someone post the link in to the next Bootcamp thread please?

ajandjjmum · 13/09/2018 19:19

Thank you Justmuddling! Flowers

Rayna37 · 17/09/2018 11:01

Eating out way too much at the moment with varying success at staying on track but currently close enough to goal to move over to maintenance rather than commit to the new bootcamp, if anyone wants to join me there I'll try to post a link to the dormant thread.

Rayna37 · 17/09/2018 11:01

Welcome to the Bootcamp Maintenance thread!http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/lowcarbb_bootcamp/3098657-Welcome-to-the-Bootcamp-Maintenance-thread#81083087

boldlygoingsomewhere · 17/09/2018 12:52

I’m a bit off maintenance still - haven’t quite got back to where I was at end of last Bootcamp. It don’t have a huge amount to lose though and I think the last half stone is always tricky.

I’m also close to the point where I had a massive craving for carbs last time and ended up falling headlong into bread and then it was a slippery slope! Trying to head it off this time by having a higher carb meal every few weeks. Nothing crazy - a bit of sweet potato or higher carb veg. Seems to be keeping my in check so far....

Rshard · 17/09/2018 18:09

I can relate to the tricky last 7lbs boldly, Imwaa circling round it all of last boot camp. So annoying, got as close as 5lbs to goal.

Nan0second · 18/09/2018 11:30

I need maintenance. A week in France and I’m 600g over but I’ll be back to target very rapidly

TimeIhadaNameChange · 19/09/2018 18:10

I'm back!

Prettybird - I am so very sorry not to have acknowledged the lovely time we spent together. The rest of the time in Glasgow was chaotic, and I really hate typing on my phone it front of people, it just seems so rude! And then I had trouble with my MN login, and then life got in the way. But it was great meeting you, we must do it again!

I've gone off piste - all my good intentions went down the pan. But, the weight's not gone up too much and, to be honest, I'm getting through the next two weeks without stressing and then I'll see where I'm at.

Why the two weeks? Well, the half-marathon is nearly up me! Can't wait! I was going to run fat-adapted but that won't be happening, so I'm just trying to get through it the best I can and then get back on the wagon.

A few things I've learnt in the last wee while, wrt running:

  1. Do NOT have a bath after a run. The last one I had ended up with me in hospital with 2nd degree burns on my arm. Not fun!

  2. Whatever anyone says, sugar is NOT good for a mid-run snack. Was tempted to a kid's party on the basis that there'd been lots of sugary snacks there to boost my blood sugar (bearing in mind point 1, which is a long story involving me fainting and knocking myself out). The friend's assured me the sugar would help. Well, I didn't faint, that's for sure. However, my body reacted rather unpleasantly on the run home, and I'm not going through that again. Oh well, rather here than in the middle of Glasgow!

I think I'm planning on having a rice-based thing the evening before (will have to eat out somewhere or get a takeaway, and rice doesn't seem to trouble me as much as other carbs), and then bacon and eggs the morning of the race. I have cheeses, beef jerky, and will maybe get some raisins to take with me (I know they're high in sugar, but, again, they don't seem to trouble me too much).

Stuntnun - if you have any further ideas I'd be grateful!
