BIWI · 23/07/2018 07:42

Good morning all, for the final Monday of this Bootcamp.

Here's the spreadsheet for its last outing!

I hope very much that the last ten weeks have been successful for everyone - whether that's on the scales, seeing your clothes fit better, better health and general enjoyment of your food!

I'll keep this chat thread going, and when it's full, will start another one until we start the next Bootcamp, which will start in mid-October.

Re the "boiling over" milk problem Rayna - keep a wooden spoon in the saucepan as you bring the milk up to the boil. It buys you a few extra seconds! Grin

Laska5772 · 08/09/2018 11:43

so this morning after a whole week I have maintained my pre-carb eating last Saturday weight and now a friend is coming over and bringing lasagne..
l have already said that i cant eat it and will do my own thing, .. but

DH yesterday gave me the whole thing about never eating carbs again was unsustainable.. and that I it was impossible that i could have regained 7lbsin two days just by eating one ham sandwich , 1 ice cream, a bit of nan bread and some pulses (although that really was all it was) . Hes not impressed that I have said i wont be eating the lasagne friend is bringing either ....

First time he has not been on board ...Sad

Rayna37 · 08/09/2018 22:01

Difficult one Laska, not sure I can advise much as I'm notorious for not being strict and would definitely eat the lasagna and accept I might stay the same weight for longer rather than lose, though I've never really been overweight or had a massive amount to lose so my perspective isn't the same as others on different journeys.

I certainly wouldn't expect 7lbs up from the blip you described and I usually find short term gain/rebound comes off very quickly once you get back on track, not the same as 7lbs you've been carrying for a year of more. 4lbs not unusual from a big weekend or holiday with a good bit of off-pisting, but 7lbs from that is harsh! Someone else can probably give more science.

BIWI · 08/09/2018 22:11

@Laska5772 the 7lbs isn't fat. What's happened is that you've re-filled your glycogen stores.

To be honest, while I think your DH is being a bit unsupportive there, I'm also with him that if your friend is bringing a lasagne that she's made for you, I'd be eating it. And just consider - in the great realm of things, there isn't likely to be that much pasta in it - and if you're careful about how you serve yourself, you can get more filling than pasta! (Unless your friend is someone who hardly puts any meat/cheese sauce in between the pasta layers of course!)

Oh laska that’s tricky. I hope your evening went well.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 09/09/2018 12:03

Laksa, that is tricky! I’ve noticed that I generally feel rotten after a carb fest - worse with pasta/bread so I suspect some digestive intolerance there. I can handle potatoes much better although they are an occasional treat. It does make me feel bad about turning down food cooked by others so I try and dish myself only a small amount of the carb element. Hope you managed to enjoy the evening.

ilovecherries · 09/09/2018 16:17

The little shop near our villa does rollitos to order, using whichever ham/cheese combo you want. They also have huge jars of different types of olives. I may have found my low carb heaven.

ilovecherries · 09/09/2018 16:26

laska, I do hear what BIWI is saying, and I acknowledge that cooking for someone is often an act of love/affection/care. AND I also had to learn and accept it that I had a right to eat what I want and not feel obligated to eat a sub optimal food if I honestly wanted to stay on plan. It’s tricky, but ultimately I feel I have the right to choose what I put in my mouth. It’s too important to me to put someone else’s preference before my own. As for sustainability - It’s not zero carbs, it’s about thinking where they come from. My own line in the sand is I don’t get hysterical if someone serves me a carby vegetable, or some grated apple, but I won’t eat rice, pasta, bread, potatoes, flour in any form, including sauces, or tropical fruits. I just won’t do it. Good luck whatever you decide :)

ilovecherries · 09/09/2018 16:31

Oh, sorry, just noticed I lost a day, and lasagne has been and gone :)

Laska5772 · 09/09/2018 18:59

It worked out ok , I didnt eat it and friend was on board and not offended and DH too in the end.. . I provided lots of little picky bits cheese board salami serrano ham olives etc to start with and also put the remains of an aubergine parmigiana I had made the night before out andwhen we were all around the table it was easy to just not eat it (cant say the same about the amount of Wine though)

I may have been a bit over sensitive here , I know that the 7lbs couldn't have been fat but it had taken all week to go , and I just didn't want another week of this .. Its not as if i dont need to lose more to get me back into normal bmi.. at least half a stone, and thats the very top of bmi for my height/ age.

Friend actually said that she would have done me a courgette layer one if she had thought but i didn't want her to go to the trouble and even so she would have used bechamel sauce .. (though i would have eaten it even so,

It did yo look a lovely lasagne though ... and i have this evening made a bolognaise sauce I am eating with courgette...

BIWI · 09/09/2018 19:03

You make a very good point there, @ilovecherries, about what's important for us. Yes, if someone has done something with love, etc, and they don't know - then sometimes it's just about 'suck it up', but too often on Bootcamp threads posters simply don't see their own needs as important.

Thank you for making your point so well!

Laska5772 · 09/09/2018 19:15

Rollitos sound great cherries . thanks for your thoughts , that's how i feel also ..but yes i wouldn't usually worry about that much about being served peas beans carrot etc , and its easy to refuse potatoes or bread because people just accept other people doing that 'because they are on a 'diet ' but if its a 'made' dish it is more 'difficult' .

DH has been very supportive up to now, he knows how I struggle with weight and get upset about it . I think though he hasn't got the WOE pretty much forever aspect.. Also he struggles to maintain his weight UP and can easily lose half a stone just like that Angry He's only 5'6, slight build, can eat anything and ruddy vain too! and who if he gets near to 10st feels he is getting too fat .. (I'm the same height but 'sturdier' build and If i got to 10st id be pretty skinny!)

Laska5772 · 09/09/2018 19:20

Yes BIWI luckily my friend did see it like that way also.. she is a very good friend..and sometimes goes on her own form of elimination diet (not for weight loss ,she doesn't need that) . So it was ok (well apart from all the wine I drank..)..However scales were hovering about the same this morning ..

Rshard · 09/09/2018 19:38

The little rollito shop sounds amazing ilove.

So glad it all worked out laska.

ilovecherries · 09/09/2018 19:58

Just had a massive barbecued fresh tuna steak, with a salad absolutely sozzled in oil. I’m never sure why you get served olive oil in Spain, and even though it’s bought in vast 5 litre plastic bottles, it’s 10 times nicer than my sanitised glass bottle at home, carried home from the supermarket. I hadn’t taken a container to the shop today, and the shopkeeper sent me away with instructions to come back with a litre sized water bottle, into which she decanted olive oil from a massive plastic drum. I expected it to be the oil equivalent of rotgut wine, but it was SO rich and tasty. And cost about 70 pence! And the little fish shop insisted in discussing how we planned to cook the tuna, then he gave me a lime and a bundle of fresh herbs, for nothing, so I could cook per his instructions. It makes a difference when food matters, it’s not justfuel you buy wrapped in plastic and don’t handle till you get it home.

Laska5772 · 09/09/2018 20:06

Sounds delicious cherries
I love the olive oil we buy in the local market in Greece from the producers . (which only comes in in 2l water bottles)

Rshard · 10/09/2018 06:46

Sounds heavenly ilove. We once stayed in an olive farm in Majorca and used their oil while there and they gave us several to bring home - was beautiful. They also had a kitchen garden and told us to help ourselves, it was gorgeous - all knarled, mid-shapen and warm from the sun. A good holiday.

yetanothernane · 10/09/2018 07:48

Managed to keep going with the plan and have lost about 1stone and a couple of pounds. I do still have the occasional carbs, but I can't seem to stomach them any longer. Needless to say the local takeaway won't be impressed!

I also managed to do my first half marathon by low carbing, so a massive thank you 🙏 although I did scoff a few jelly babies at mile marker 6

Lonesurvivor · 10/09/2018 08:30

Morning all, nice to see so many still here.
I've been mainly off plan this last 6 weeks and must say I've enjoyed it immenselyBlush. I was going to wait to restart on the next bootcamp but reality is I've 10 pounds on, my work uniform is bursting at the seams and bad habits are creeping back in so I'm starting now. To be honest I became a bit fed up of this woe but I'm now more fed up of cravings, bloating and weight gain so weighing up the options LCHF has more benefits to offer than eating a wider variety of foods does.

My aim is to lose 20 pounds which I think will mean I've lost over 3.5 stone this year then I'll take a break until the start of next year.
Anyway enough about me, how's everyone else doing? I'm off to catch us on you all nowSmile

3stonedown · 10/09/2018 08:49

Hi all, back from a carby holiday Sad. I don't know why I struggle so much to stay on plan when we are away. 2lbs up which isn't too bad though. I'm going to be a bit stricter but not quite bootcamp. Think I'll give up fruit for a couple of weeks but keep nuts.

cherries your holiday sounds fab.

I'm pretty impressed with everyone making their own yogurts.

Rshard · 10/09/2018 09:47

I had a 3.75lbs gain from my holiday 3stonedown as of last Thursday, just a pound of it left this morning so I bet yours will disappear just as quickly.

Well done on your half marathon yetanothername!

Welcome back lone

Laska5772 · 10/09/2018 10:32

Grr bought myself a packet of local produced pork chilli and garlic scratchings yesterday. Ate a couple and luckily no more but have just noticed they have sugar dextrose AND f-ing wheat in.. Why ffs!!! ? It's so difficult to escape ruddy sugar in anything Angry

Laska5772 · 10/09/2018 10:38

3stone that's not too bad again for ahold hopefully it will come off again quickly.
Lone survivor I have come to the conclusion that I just cannot take ' breaks' it seems like my body just wants to regain as soon as I look at anything carby. Sad. I do want to have the odd wine though but I'm now taking a break on alcohol in preparation for the next bootcamp

BIWI · 10/09/2018 12:42

Just come across this new range today

Apparently they're available in Morrison's, so worth keeping a look out.

Lonesurvivor · 10/09/2018 15:13

Laska5772 sugar is every where, it's so hard to avoid. I'm not surprised so many people struggle to keep going after a few days low carb because in the beginning it's so easy to eat the wrong thing and end up feeling like you'll never master it.
Finding the BC rules made it possible for me to continue when I reached the stage I normally gave up at.
Re the taking a break, I was so fed up of the woe and of course slowed weight loss I couldn't continue I'd stuck to plan for almost 3 months. Maybe what you've found would suit me better too and rather than taking a break next time I'll allow myself to occasionally go off plan and not feel it's the end of the world.
