Week 9 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Just two weeks to go!

Evening all.

As promised, I'm starting the next week's chat thread early. I'm in the lounge at Heathrow, waiting for my flight to China. By the time I arrive at my destination it will be around mid-afternoon in the UK so thought I'd better do this now!

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hopefully no glitches with it this week.

So we have reached the last two weeks. Still time to lose a few pesky pounds. One thing you could consider doing, if you feel like it, is going back to Bootcamp and having a strict couple of weeks to finish off.

But whatever you decide, hope you have a good week.

@ajandjjmum - your diabetic 'nurse' clearly doesn't know what she's talking about!

Get yourself over to the spreadsheet and read some of the resources that are on there.

There's plenty of information about low carbing and its general benefits, never mind weight loss and help with diabetes.

God, I hate it when people insist on peddling that myth about Atkins.

I'm at the Paul Simon concert tonight in the Hydro. Had a single Gin and slimline fevertree tonic before we came across the river (£8 each! Shock) and have just been very virtuous and had some water while dh and SIL have Irn Brus.

m0therofdragons · 11/07/2018 20:19

@prettybird my gin and elderflower at Ed Sheeran in Cardiff was £10 Shock and I'm almost certain it was just squash. Nice squash but still!

Divette · 11/07/2018 20:58

I hate it when this woe gets that stigma-it’s Atkins and it’s bad. Grrrr!

We were at a funeral today (DP’s grandma bless her) and every single thing on the buffet was carby. I spied quiche and thought i’d Just have the top of it without the pastry but I bit into it and was certain there was potato in it so left it for DP to eat. I hadn’t eaten all day so I decided to go to the bar (it was in a hotel) and ordered myself a burger with no bun, and salad. I asked for plain salad and asked for mayo and she gave me a bottle of it. The salad then came and was covered in a sweet vinaigrette. I put the burger on another plate and ate it with plain salad from the buffet. I’m pleased with my choices but keep worrying now that his parents will have been offended that I did that and shunned the buffet they had laid on for us all. Hope not but it’s a niggle I have...

boldlygoingsomewhere · 11/07/2018 21:25

Thanks, prettybird!

I also get frustrated with the Atkins thing being wheeled out all the time. Think the medical world is finally coming round to lower carb eating.

ajandjjmum · 11/07/2018 22:17

StuntNun - that is amazing - I shall make a point of telling her that!

I will BIWI - thank you for the pointers. And MotherOfDragons - glad your friend has an enlightened nurse.

Once I've recovered from the football, I'll get on with some reading. Need to get my facts together. Thank you everyone.

borowren · 11/07/2018 22:46

I need a talking to!
Went on a course for work on Tuesday...lunch provided, nothing suitable to eat. Has launched me into a two day carb binge 😞
I need to draw a line. So cross with myself as I've been so strict, not even small cheats until yesterday. This is typical behaviour for me, I just can't do moderation. I have to eat nothing...or everything!
Tomorrow is a new day I suppose.

Rshard · 12/07/2018 09:11

Today’s definitely a new day borowren. You’ve got this.

I had carbs last night, a bread roll and I enjoyed it but boy have I suffered this morning for it. It’s completely bunged me up, sorry if that’s tmi. Bread never had that effect on me, so I presume my body has become so unused to processing it now?

No desire for any more carbs here, strictly back on the straight and narrow for me

prettybird · 12/07/2018 13:02

Saw a 6 - a six Shock - on the scales this morning Shock - 11st 6.25lb! Shock

If that sticks until Monday must keep off the wine - then that's officially over a stone off this Boot Camp and 3.5 stone since I started last May Smile

...and I'd only have another pound to go to make it 50lb since I started! Grin

m0therofdragons · 12/07/2018 13:37

Well done @prettybird that's fab!

For the first time in BC I'm really thinking about carbs - pasta bolognese and cake. I'm very tired and I think stodgy food has always been my go to. Am resisting but it's quite a strong craving today. Early night tonight!

MummyMoving · 12/07/2018 14:25

Hi there, can I jump in? I've started trying low carb following Gretchen Rubin and Gary Taubes - I felt fab for 3 days, then extremely nauseous and craving. Carbs crept back in, but I would like to try and continue to live life without them!

BIWI · 12/07/2018 14:44

Brilliant @prettybird - you've worked so hard to get there you deserve these Flowers

@MummyMoving. welcome! What you've been suffering is called carb flu. However, if you keep going back to the carbs, you won't be doing anything. You have to keep going and get through those days, and then once you're through you'll be well on your way of becoming fat-adapted, and will start to see the benefits

Welcome MummyMoving Flowers This place is great for support Smile

If you've been following Gretchen Rubin, you'll understand the difference between a Moderator and an Abstainer. It really helps to know which you are - although in the first 2 weeks you need to be a full Abstainer (and follow the Rules), or BIWI will get her Big Stick out Shock

I fortunately am a Moderator and can allow myself tiny bits of off-pistedness without falling off the wagon. For example, sssshhhhh I had a tiny portion of vanilla ice cream a couple of nights ago to accompany some home grown raspberries (still warm from the sun Smile). But I didn't give in to the siren call of toast and some of the raspberry jam that I made on Sunday - as I don't think I would have been able to stop at one! Halo

3stonedown · 12/07/2018 15:33

Well done prettybird!

I can't remember if I shared before as I have had them recently but Sainsburys do Taste the Difference "the meaty one" chipolatas and they are less then 0.5g carbs for 2. And I am going to assume they are on offer at the moment as DP got them and he's cheap. Just in case anyone else wants them!

Rshard · 12/07/2018 16:09

Nice one prettybird

Hi mummymoving, welcome aboard

prettybird · 12/07/2018 16:15

I've just checked: only 7.25lb to go until I'm back into a normal BMI Smile

Might make that my target to try my Nicole Farhi dress back on Grin It would be nice to wear it for Christmas (in which case, I need not only to be able to get it on and do it up without the buttons straining Blush but also for it to have some "ease" Grin)

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 12/07/2018 19:57

ajandjjmum two GP friends have eaten like this for years, it’s definitely becoming more commonplace amoungst medical profession.
Just checking in, food all good but wine this week has stalled me- was a big event kind of week. I’m sitting here drinking water to try and counteract some of the damage.

It’s been a while since I’ve been fully LC, can anyone think of something crunchy to have apart from cucumber. Struggling for ideas at the mo.

Justmuddlingalong · 12/07/2018 20:02

Crunchy peanut but gives me a bit of the crunch I crave. Radishes and pork scratchings too. Not together obviously.Wink

m0therofdragons · 12/07/2018 20:23

Had a lovely curry tonight with cauliflower rice. Dh has said he feels I'm overcompensating the lack of carbs with other veg but he did enjoy it. I think he was hoping he'd get rice but I was too tired for that much faff!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 12/07/2018 20:24

Well done, prettybird!

Welcome to the group, Mummymoving.

I’ve felt great today - so full of energy! I really wanted to dance but as I was in the office, thought I’d best refrain. Grin

ajandjjmum · 12/07/2018 22:21

Thanks NaturalBlondeYeahRight - I find it quite shocking that a GP's nurse would not keep up to date with general changes in thinking - particularly for something as common-place as diabetes, and relied on information from 13 years ago.

My actual GP was very supportive - good that your friends are up to speak with current thinking too.

MummyMoving · 13/07/2018 06:12

Thank you for the kind welcome everyone - you are all doing so brilliantly! It amazes me how counter-cultural being low carb feels, I'm very glad to have found a supportive group.

Thanks for the recommendation 3stonedown, and your tea sounds great m0therofdragons. Wow, well done on your energy level boldlygoingsomewhere :)

Today will be challenging because I am doing a load of baking for my daughter's party tomorrow. Will try to stay strong & report back. Have a good day everyone!

prettybird · 13/07/2018 09:07

@Kleptronic - you mentioned on another thread that you hadn't had a response to your concern that your wedding is in 4 weeks and you've stalled (I'm on the phone so can't do an advanced search to see exactly what you wrote).

Can you outline what you've been eating so we can see if there is anything that can fine-tuned? Do you have a particular target for the Big Day? Have you considered trying the 3 Day Ubercamp? Or a 24 (or even just 16 or 20) hour fast?

Lonesurvivor · 13/07/2018 09:28

Morning all, hard to believe we're almost at our last week of BC, the last two months flew by.
I'm still having inner self sabotage feelings/thoughts, it's unreal and a bit overwhelming. I've never had as many people notice my loss as this week. I'm down a size in my work uniform and apparently the new one highlights that my silhouette has changed dramatically (someone else's words not mine).
I'm pleased with my progress aside from the first week haven't found twice and yet I keep thinking this woe of eating is too hard to continue long term.Confused

I need to take a more proactive approach now and stop the negative thoughts creeping in. From today onwards every second of self doubt will be shot down and positive thoughts only allowed.
I've on choice really I destroyed my larger uniforms and even a couple of pounds gain on my tummy will mean the new ones won't fit

Have a good second last weekend everyoneGrin
