Week 9 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Just two weeks to go!

Evening all.

As promised, I'm starting the next week's chat thread early. I'm in the lounge at Heathrow, waiting for my flight to China. By the time I arrive at my destination it will be around mid-afternoon in the UK so thought I'd better do this now!

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hopefully no glitches with it this week.

So we have reached the last two weeks. Still time to lose a few pesky pounds. One thing you could consider doing, if you feel like it, is going back to Bootcamp and having a strict couple of weeks to finish off.

But whatever you decide, hope you have a good week.

Thanks BIWI yes enjoy China, and I hope you get to swim in the pool!
I am down this week, but not at my lowest since I’ve been on this WOE, but I think I’m finally understanding what works and what doesn’t work for me.
Strangely people are now saying “ooo you’ve lost weight, what are you doing?” I have great joy saying how much I enjoy this way of eating.
Thanks for everything from everyone, and all your input as you report your journeys.
I am looking forward to the last two weeks of this (and I hope to keep this up). Have a great week everyone and KOKO.

Just remembered that we have a set of scales in our medical room at work so decided to hop on them to find out if my scales at home are accurate.... Digital scales at home say: 10 stone, 12lbs. Mechanical scales at work say: 12 stone, 2lbs!! I'm now paranoid that my scales have been wrong this whole time and I've always been a stone heavier than I thought I was Confused I almost curled up on the floor and wept!! Grin Hells bells...

Twoo · 10/07/2018 06:56

I’m crushed for you Luki

I had a similar experience on the last bc (my first). Was using manual scales for weeks. Then got batteries for electronic. Jumped on to find I was 6lbs heavier than I thought. It took my weight nearer to 12st .

It’s a real bummer.

Giraffeski · 10/07/2018 07:03

I stayed the same for a third week! Hoping for a little whoosh next week as i'm slightly annoyed BUT my shorts are very big on the waist now so I must be doing ok.

BIWI · 10/07/2018 07:31

@AlwaysAToDoList

You're very welcome to join us, and I hope it works for you - but just to point out, your diet isn't Bootcamp!

For a start, there's hardly any veg, and we don't allow legumes - so your chickpea pasta isn't Bootcamp either!

prettybird · 10/07/2018 08:35

Welcome Always Flowers

Good alternative to pasta (as well as adding to the veg count) is thinly sliced (I use a cheese slicer) or spiralised courgettes briefly fried in butter.

Or for stir fries, I use Naked noodles which are zero carbs (just need to be rinsed before using).

boldlygoingsomewhere · 10/07/2018 08:44

Luki, this is one of the reasons I’m not weighing but going by clothes fit and waist measurement instead. I don’t trust my scales at all.

Been feeling rough for a couple of days which could be carb flu or it could just be the heat!

Getting dressed this morning was a shocker - side on I look like I’m pregnant. My abdomen is so out of proportion to anything else. I’m waiting for people to start commenting...

Mimosa1 · 10/07/2018 08:51

Thanks @Gammeldragz and well done for making it past your set point. I'm inspired.

@StuntNun I'll check out Ubercamp thanks for the suggestion

I'm going on holiday with the extended family in the S of France next week so one final push before I go will be just the thing. In a NSV i bought a sundress in a size 10 -10!- ahead of my trip. It's a VERY loose fitting maxi dress (I'm a classic pear shape) but I've definitely gone down from a 14 top/18 bottom when I started BC for the first time almost a year ago to a 12 top / 14 bottom. I've been pulling out summer clothes for the holiday and some are too big now - gasp!Puts things in (a bit of) perspective when I've only lost 6lbs since Christmas.Annoyingly my DH has lost loadWink

prettybird · 10/07/2018 09:00

Mimosa - my set point was 11st 13lb which I got to just before Christmas, back to mid January (after a wee bit of planned Christmas off-pistedness Wink) and then stuck at for 2 months Hmm

After a short period off the wagon in pique Hmm which put me back up to 12st 7lb, I've now lost that this Boot Camp and another 4+lb so am down to 11stone 8+lb Smile

I'm hoping to make it to under 11st 7lb by the end of this Boot Camp, to make it 1 stone this Boot Camp and 3.5st since I started last May (and only a stone to go to target) Smile

Luki · 10/07/2018 09:04

boldly I think I'm going to start doing that too. At least the tape measure won't lie to me!

I'm kind of disappointed now though that I don't know how much weight I've lost during this bootcamp. Even my starting weight must have been wrong. Sad

That's terrific progress Mimosa well done!

ajandjjmum · 10/07/2018 09:15

My motivation for this BC was that I needed to have another blood test for diabetes - and knew I hadn't kept up my LC diet from 18 months ago, when I went from on the cusp to ok within three months.

Yesterday morning I was at my lowest weight ever for this BC - total loss of 11 lbs - which I was really happy with. Had the blood test, and bought a french stick for lunch as a 'reward'. Up 3 lbs this morning.

Still happy with my choices - still need to have a life - but it shows the impact of a relatively small deviation. I shall KOKO with a vengeance.

Have a good day everyone!

qumquat · 10/07/2018 11:30

Bra update! Instead of buying bras one cup size smaller I bought 3 cup sizes smaller by mistake. I was really annoyed at myself but then I tried one on and it fits! I keep checking myself for quadruple boobs and they're not appearing!

Rayna37 · 10/07/2018 12:58

We'll not discuss what I'm eating but I have used the lengthy driving time to/in France to read the Pioppi Diet which was really good on the science behind and use in practice of this WoE, given me a few ideas to tweak diet and lifestyle when I get back, especially more fish. It's not just diet but the summary of top 10 foods in it was really good.

m0therofdragons · 10/07/2018 13:20

What are the top 10 foods @Rayna37 ?

I know I include too much cheese but while I'm seeing losses I'll continue. At least I have something I can change if I stall!

Laska5772 · 10/07/2018 13:26

No idea of any loss or gain, being still on hol but DH's Fat Face sz 10 shorts still do up this morning and I can still sit down in them.

I bet though that I am the only on on boot camper to have had Octopus for breakfast !!GrinGrin!! ( this was Saturday but it was my first meal of the day - apart from black coffee - at 5pm )

Goodasgoldilox · 10/07/2018 13:52

Seafour - enjoy the day and enjoy being 7lb lighter. (If you still feel this doesn't make much difference - weigh out a 7lb bag of something and carry it for a while. It is great to put it down!)

boldlygoingsomewhere · 10/07/2018 15:12

Well done on the bra NSV, qumquat.

Laksa, I’ve never tried octopus - just can’t get over how it looks. Enjoy the holiday though. Smile

BIWI · 10/07/2018 15:25

@Rayne37 I've never heard of that diet, but it sounds really interesting! Can you post the top 10 foods? Sounds like that could be really helpful

We're an hour early for my youngest's hospital appointment so we're hanging out in the restaurant. I've got about the only thing suitable, a not very nice black coffee. Kids have chocolate and juice though so they're happy! Grin

Finallymorethananumber · 10/07/2018 17:20

Hello everyone, hope you are all having a good Tuesday.

I'm finding all the updates so interesting and hearing about the ups and downs (pun kind of unintentional). This is what I have to look forward to or not as the case may be.

I'm not sure I could ever eat octopus @Laska5772! And loving the bra and knicker incidents.

My weigh in is tomorrow at the gym, my second week there. The trackies I was going to wear last week wouldn't reliably stay up do I had to go to Asda on our way there to buy new ones. I found a pair in the men's section that actually fit comfortably.

Then today it was measurements day. I have lost 3.5 inches off my hips! Losses everywhere else too but that one made me smile.

I had a tough day yesterday, all my own fault, I left my lunch at home so by the time I was in from work all I wanted was something, anything to eat and all the carby stuff looked so tempting. I stayed clear but it was so hard and goes to my view that I am probably an abstainer and not a moderator..I don't think I would stop!

Lonesurvivor · 10/07/2018 17:42

I read an article during the week about the pioppi diet and it's very similar to this woe.
It's called after a town land in Italy and it's based on the Mediterranean diet.
It was created/researched, if I remember correctly, due to the great health of the people in that region.

StuntNun · 10/07/2018 18:19

BIWI the Pioppi Diet book is by British Cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra who has been making waves in the press lately. The top ten foods are:

  1. extra virgin olive oil (2-4 tbsp daily);
  2. nuts (handful daily);
  3. fibrous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, courgette, aubergine, onion, sweet potato);
  4. fruit (tomato, avocado, apple, berries);
  5. herbs and spices (garlic, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon);
  6. oily fish (three times a week minimum)
  7. dark chocolate (min. 85% cocoa solids) and/or raw cacao powder;
  8. coconut oil;
  9. eggs (10 per week minimum);
10. full-fat and fermented dairy.

So a bit different from standard low carb, more of a Mediterranean low carb high fat diet.

BIWI · 10/07/2018 18:23

That's in interesting - thanks @StuntNun

Just dropping in to say I'm not going to be around until next week now as DD 1 arrives from NZ tomorrow. There is baking to be done, a pie to make, a wedding to go to.
I have a to do list as long as my arm which I'm hoping doesn't include having to alter any bridesmaids dresses and we leave on Thursday afternoon.

BlackMozart · 10/07/2018 22:27

Really enjoy it all seafour
I went to the funeral today of a loved but infrequently seen cousin. It made me realise that life is too short not to make the effort to get together with extended family more often. It is so easy for months and even years to go past and then suddenly someone is gone and there is no more to be done ☹️
