Week 9 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Just two weeks to go!

Evening all.

As promised, I'm starting the next week's chat thread early. I'm in the lounge at Heathrow, waiting for my flight to China. By the time I arrive at my destination it will be around mid-afternoon in the UK so thought I'd better do this now!

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hopefully no glitches with it this week.

So we have reached the last two weeks. Still time to lose a few pesky pounds. One thing you could consider doing, if you feel like it, is going back to Bootcamp and having a strict couple of weeks to finish off.

But whatever you decide, hope you have a good week.

This is the cover of the book recommended up thread. Great book. Again it says hflc can reverse type 2 diabetes, similar to Dr Mosely Blood Sugar diet.

Have a wonderful time with your family Seafour - especially at the Wedding.

So....feeling a bit fed-up but know I'm being unreasonable. Lost between 8 and 11 lbs in this BC and been pretty strict. Had my Hba1C (?? diabetes test), and it's 43 rather than 41 which it was 18 months ago. I'm thinking (hoping) it might be because I've only been following this woe for 8 weeks, and the blood test measures 12 weeks.

Off to see the nurse this afternoon as my GP is away. Hope she will help and not diss what I'm doing - my GP was really supportive last time.

Gives me another reason to KOKO.

StuntNun · 11/07/2018 09:43

AJandJJ how were you eating over the past 18 months? Was it low carb? If not then it's possible your HbA1c was higher than 43 and it's on the way down that you're eating low carb. Did you have any blood glucose tests during that time that might give an indication?

Hi everyone,

I'm back after an interesting week and a half. First weekend I was in the office, as I knew I couldn't get in last week and I had something to finish off. So not the best weekend, especially as I was stressing about an impending visit as well. Monday - Friday I was full time at my usually very part-time job at the nursery. It was good fun, though it meant far more hours being seduced by sweet stuff, to which I succumbed by the end. I also managed to catch a cold off one of the wee darlings which saw me basically in my bed for the last four days. And diving head-first into the carbs.

The visitors we had (friend of DP's, and a friend of hers) were as stressful as I expected (well, not the friend of the friend, just DP's mate). I was told they'd be here for a week, then, when they arrived, they said they'd be away on the Thursday, but they ended up going on the Wed morning without saying goodbye to me, (despite, it turned out, being up and dressed before I left). It left a strange taste in my mouth, to be honest. Hey ho. And before anyone asks I was perfectly nice to them, cooking them dinner etc, and we had a couple of seemingly nice evenings sat out in the garden together.

The whole thing was just very strange, but I'm trying to forget about it.

StuntNun
I was at 49 in September 2016 and immediately hit LC diet, which got me down to 41 in the December. Then I let it go - stupid I know. My GP (also a friend) kept nagging me to have another blood test, which I booked for two months in to this boot camp. Of course, you're right. It will have been higher and be coming down.

I'm seeing the nurse this afternoon, and will try and make another appt. for one month's time, when hopefully it will be down a little further. Just a bit worried she may discourage the LCHF diet - which is working.

Also - need to visit the gym - haven't done for months. Sad

ajandjjmum · 11/07/2018 10:35

Meant to say Time - that sounds weird. You made them welcome, and you can't do more than that. Hopefully it'll be a while before they visit again! Flowers

BIWI · 11/07/2018 10:43

Are you really keeping your carbs low, @ajandjjmum? It may be that you have to be super vigilant.

But fingers crossed your nurse is as enlightened as your GP Flowers

Food here is disastrous for LC. Am being catered for all the time - which is lovely, and everyone is very hospitable, but it's typical Chinese food. (Calling it typical is to denigrate it, as it's been really good, but it's typical in the sense of being very carb heavy). And my IBS is returning as a consequence, so I'm feeling very uncomfortable. As well as fat.
I have another day to get through - and absolutely no way of getting out of it. it would be incredibly rude with the people I'm with to refuse what they're providing me. Although I'm enjoying being in China, my guts are looking forward to being at home!

I am BIWI - most days between 30 and 40, with literally 3 or 4 slips over the two months (small piece of DD's birthday cake type slips - not a day of gorging! Grin).

Hope you're having a productive time in China!

prettybird · 11/07/2018 11:20

Still to log my weight for this week: 11st 7.25lb - so a whole pound down from last week Smile despite the wine at the weekend Blush

Soooooo close to the stone loss this Boot Camp and the 3.5 stone loss since I started last May Grin might have been there already if it hadn't been for the wine at the weekend Wink

I'm sure I'll get there by the end of this Boot Camp Halo

ajandjjmum - I hope the nurse is supportive.

BIWI - hope your guts can hold out to the end of this trip Grin - and that the damage hasn't been toooo bad Smile

Rshard · 11/07/2018 12:58

Those house guests don’t sound especially polite time!

Fingers crossed prettybird, I think you can do it too.

Hope your tummy isn’t suffering too badly BIWI

bibliomania · 11/07/2018 13:06

Might have a look at the Pioppi diet. It sounds like all the foods I like to eat.

There is so much conflicting advice about aubergines. I adore them, and some diets say they're good while others point out that they are members of the deadline nightshade family and warn you off.

clare8allthepies · 11/07/2018 13:22

We had pizza topped chicken last night, which was so nice I had it again for lunch today. Period has arrived though so what I really want is a massive cake. Bought some clotted cream earlier so will have some of that with strawberries instead.

Kleptronic · 11/07/2018 14:18

I'm 2lb up this week due to a burger bun and a mini magnum on Sunday. And a bucketload of Pimms. That'll teach me!

I have seriously got to get my head straight as I have 4 weeks until I get wed. Need to shift 6lb so I can eat during my wedding week and still fit into my dress (we are camping at a festival and I think low carb will be tricky).

m0therofdragons · 11/07/2018 14:55

I popped on the scales this morning to remind me not to head for the cider this evening and I'm pleased to say they're heading in the right direction with another pound off. Let's see if I can keep it off for the rest of the week! One more pound and I'll be out of the "overweight" category so then I'll be looking to set my next goal!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 11/07/2018 15:10

People who have done this more than once with a few months gap in between, did you find your body adapted to LCHF faster?

I’ve found that the ‘hungry’ phase has passed very quickly - within a few days - compared to my first BC when it took a couple of weeks to stop snacking.

Rshard · 11/07/2018 15:20

Your pizza topped chicken sounds lovely clare8, was it tomato sauce and mozzarella? Baked in the oven?

prettybird · 11/07/2018 15:48

boldly - yes, I did find I adapted more quickly. But there again, I've never suffered from carb flu.

My snacking is rarely hunger driven - it's more habit/boredom driven Blush So that takes longer to overcome Blush But I can do intermittent 16:8 and even 24 hour fasts easily Smile

The good news is (I was even going to mention it as an NSV Grin) is that I am reducing my addition to slices of Lidl Salami Milano (down from 4 packs to

MrsCoyote · 11/07/2018 15:51

Hi, just checking in after holidays is land of pizza and pasta. The weight is only a bit down, which is a massive victory for me.

Have a fabulous time, Seafour.

clare8allthepies · 11/07/2018 15:55

Rshard it was everything! A bit of mozzarella and cheddar, a small bit of tomato purée, some pepperoni, some spring onion and jalapeños.

Last night we battered out 2 chicken breasts until thin and flat then cooked them on the griddle pan, topped them and just stuck them in the oven for a couple of minutes to melt the cheese. Today I just poached a chicken breast then sliced up and put together to make the base before doing the rest.

Rshard · 11/07/2018 16:09

Thanks clare8 I’ll be giving them a go.

LeapinLizards · 11/07/2018 18:03

@BIWI hope your tummy is ok. Your insides will be so happy when you get back to normal.

@time, your guests sound very odd. How rude of them.

@mrscoyote - what an absolute triumph to return from hols having lost weight, esp when surrounded by pizza & pasta. I am about to head to Italy too so I am inspired by your post.

@seafour hope you're having a wonderful time

ajandjjmum · 11/07/2018 18:11

So...the nurse was happy enough for me to continue with this woe for the next month, but didn't think it would be sustainable long term. She said it's basically the Atkins diet, and it killed him!!!

Any info welcome on how this is different would be welcome - I've got a month to brush up my knowledge.

She was really lovely, but was talking about how the diabetes consultants used to go mad when diabetics told them they were on the Atkins diet........but she hasn't worked with them for over 13 years! Things change.

StuntNun · 11/07/2018 19:14

AJandJJ Atkins slipped on ice and died of traumatic brain injury. It was nothing to do with his diet!

m0therofdragons · 11/07/2018 19:24

That's interesting @ajandjjmum my friend was at risk of type 2 diabetes 6 months ago and the nurse advised this woe!
