Week 8 - Low Carb Bootcamp - only 3 weeks to go!

Morning all.

Here, hopefully, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness Let's just hope this one works Smile

So we have three weeks left. Still time to see a good loss before our final weigh-in. This weather, I think, makes it all easier - so much easier to choose a salad when it's hot. And barbecues are perfect for low carbing (if you're a meat eater, of course!)

We had a barbecue yesterday and we had:

home-made chilli burgers (12% fat organic mince, chopped shallot, chopped red chilli, dried oregano and salt and pepper, whizzed up in the processor to combine). I had mine without the bun, obviously!

chicken thighs, skin-on, that had been marinated in a spice mix (ground cumin, ground coriander, ground ginger, turmeric, chilli powder, oregano, salt and pepper, all mixed in with olive oil and fresh lime juice to make a paste that was then rubbed all over the chicken)

coconut cod** - a lovely recipe I found in one of my barbecue books. Fish marinated in coconut cream, that had been infused with lime, garlic, ginger, shallot and lime juice - bring all that to the boil and simmer for around 10 minutes; cool and then use as a marinade for the fish, which you then cook on the barbecue in a foil parcel.

And sausages. Because you can't have a barbecue without sausages!

Anyway, plenty left over, so I'm taking chicken and sausages to work for my lunch.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Great to hear about your ideal blood pressure, @chocchip88!

A friend at my Pilates class made a comment about bone density. I'd always considered that, as I have small wrists, I'm small framed and therefore should be at the middle (allowing for my boobs Wink) to lower end of BMI. She pointed out that if I have high density bones (which I probably do if I've taken after my mum: her broken pelvis at 66 was because the femur slammed into it and didn't itself shatter) then that would also factor - unlike her bones which, as she put it, because of her osteoporosis, are as light as a feather! Grin

I wonder if there's something in that?

m0therofdragons · 05/07/2018 10:20

It's the nhs' 70th birthday today so, working in a hospital, there's more bloody cake. By 10am is already been offered chocolates. Annoyingly, despite all the cake and sweet refusals I'm still 1lb up. Need to get further away from that 11stone nemesis!

Omelette for breakfast cooked in butter
Spinach and Parma ham for lunch
Turkey sausages and cabbage for dinner
Yoghurt for snack

Aim for the day: Must drink more water!

Rshard · 05/07/2018 10:29

I think there’s likely to be some truth in the bone density impacting weight prettybird, what wrist size is considered small, medium etc - do you know? I’ve always considered myself medium framed but I’ve got think wrists and ankles - same as my dm.

Ragwort · 05/07/2018 11:04

I was desperate for something a bit 'different' this morning for breakfast & made myself a small rhubarb crumble; just rhubarb topped with a mixture of butter, ground almonds and a few walnuts & flaked almonds - only tiny but delicious served with cream Smile.

The book recommended further up the thread by Kirstie Sullivan looks really interesting, she also has a website & You Tube channel with lots of motivation & ideas.

bibliomania · 05/07/2018 11:24

I'm not a rhubarb fan, but Ragwort, that crumble topping sounds gorgeous.

Bone density must count for something - my mother carries very little fat (when she wear a bikini you can see all the knobs on her spine) and is quite short, but genuinely you can see that she has big bones. I had my bone density measured recently and was told they were the density of someone 20 years younger. I've vaguely wondered if we have a high percentage of Neanderthal genes...

Ah bum! Clicky link fail 😂. Try again: www.freedieting.com/true-frame-size

My wrist measures 7.5cm so I'm a large frame according to this chart x

Rshard · 05/07/2018 13:13

Thanks northern, I’ll have a look

This is a good link about baking low carb from Kristie's website.

LeapinLizards · 05/07/2018 13:36

Your hypothesis makes sense to me @prettybird. If it's true, we should all be aiming to weigh quite a lot because of our dense bones but look very slim - so ignoring the scales & numbers & only paying attention to the NSVs. Is it @bluntness who does that? Mind you, at 45, it might be that I'm at the wrong stage of life to be building bone density. Probably too old.

Hello! Lurker here.....and fellow dieter! I checked in way back in April but ran away after being told lentils were carbs. Anyway, I've been just not adding any carbs element to my meals at all. I've also restricted alcohol to just two strict pub measure units per week. No snacks.
I'm only 5ft 2in and 47 yrs old ....and back in mid April I weighed 11st 4lbs. Today I'm 10st 2lbs and aiming for 9st 9lbs. Over around 3 months I've lost 16lbs. I have felt hungry. The first 3 weeks were hell but then after that ....pretty good.
Given that pain of the first three weeks, I'm going all the way now. I can't face the misery of repeating that.
I hope this is inspiring ...I think a low carbs approach does indeed work!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 05/07/2018 20:03

Evening all. I’m back to LCHF, lost three stone three years ago with Biwi but put two back on after giving up. I have genuinely no idea why except socially it was bloody hard. Over last 3 months I have slowly, tediously lost a stone trying SW then two weeks ago realised what chemical nonsense I was eating and was still struggling with that way of eating. I’ve ditched them and started this again- already feel in control again and ‘not deprived’ which is definitely an emotional thought I have when it comes to food.
So I’ve missed this boot camp but I’m here again. Lost 5lbs already and not hungry.
Long way to go for me but I’m ready to take it. Always remember a saying I saw on here that stuck with me- dieting is hard, being fat is hard. Choose your hard.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 05/07/2018 20:14

Thanks for the welcome. Smile

Started from scratch again today and got hit by a surprise hunger pang at about 4pm. Need to remember to take some snacks with me to work for when that hits. Last time I ate a fair few mini-cheeses until my appetite settled!

Destinysdaughter · 05/07/2018 20:56

HI all, not had a good day today, just been dumped by my partner who
I’d been with for one and a half years! I know we’d been having problems but he called me tonight to say it was over and had packed up
All my stuff and dropped it off at mine. I’m in shock right now and am drinking a bottle of wine. Ironically one of our points of contention was my bloody diet, he needs to lose 4 stone but is v anti my WOE. No hum. I won’t comfort eat but may drink
A bit too much in the next few weeks...🙁🍷

Tinkobell · 05/07/2018 21:09

@Destinys......that's bloody awful. Hope the 🍷Is helping a bit. Sounds like many things at play there. Dieting can be stressful and a strain. I know I can be snappy. When our meals run late for one reason or another I'm nearly going out of my mind with hunger ...
Slight digression I know. Sorry to hear your news. Have some 💐

ItsalmostSummer · 05/07/2018 21:15

Sorry Destiny that is really painful. Hope the wine helps in the interim and after the wine you find this WOE the way you can move forward into the new you. I know that’s early but it will get easier xx
Welcome to those who have joined us. I like to know we can come and go as we need the help and support. I imagine I’ll be coming back to this too. Having an ok week. I really am not deviating foodwise and am loving this WOE. Not figured out how to lose weight so I am doing something wrong but I am going through the change and think that is not helping. I have discovered to eat more at meals to feel full. I think I’m used to eating a set amount of food (years of dieting) so it’s going better now I’m eating till full. I’m having my water and electrolytes. So I’ll see how it goes for weigh in :) wishing you all well and Destiny here Flowers

Destinysdaughter · 05/07/2018 21:25

Thanks for the kind words, it means a lot. We were supposed to
go to a music festival this weekend, he’s given me the tickets and told me to go and enjoy myself, how the hell am I supposed to do that?? 🙁

prettybird · 05/07/2018 22:00

Flowers Destiny

If it helps, I've found this WoE much better at maintaining an even keel emotionally - something that will be important for you as you grieve for the end of the relationship.

I hope you can find someone to go to the music festival with - and have an absolute ball! Glitterball

RedPandaMama · 05/07/2018 23:03

Hi I'm back! Anyone remember me?

I'm here to be accountable. I went off plan during week 5, had a few good days in week 6 then went off the rails on holiday during week 7.
I'm back up to 96.5kg which I'm unhappy about but it's completely my fault, I know. Started at 99kg so still a loss, works out as about 5.5lbs so better than nothing.

I've been back on LCHF for 2 days now and had the most horrendous detox carb flu yesterday after drinking loads of G&Ts and eating chocolate every night on holiday. Feeling good today though Smile

Hope everyone is doing well!

LeapinLizards · 05/07/2018 23:27

@destinysdsughter, so sorry to read your news. It sounds like it came out of the blue for you so there will be a bit of shock there. I agree that it would be a good idea to go to the festival. I remember going to a gig after a breakup & whilst I was only half there, it did help as a reminder that life goes on & there are a lot of people in the world and 'he' is just one - just one! Look after yourself Flowers

MumOfAPickle · 05/07/2018 23:39

Ah destiny that sucks, please do go to the music festival with someone, it’ll be a good way to be somewhere completely different mentally and physically and you can put off the tears for a while Flowers
