Week 8 - Low Carb Bootcamp - only 3 weeks to go!

Morning all.

Here, hopefully, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness Let's just hope this one works Smile

So we have three weeks left. Still time to see a good loss before our final weigh-in. This weather, I think, makes it all easier - so much easier to choose a salad when it's hot. And barbecues are perfect for low carbing (if you're a meat eater, of course!)

We had a barbecue yesterday and we had:

home-made chilli burgers (12% fat organic mince, chopped shallot, chopped red chilli, dried oregano and salt and pepper, whizzed up in the processor to combine). I had mine without the bun, obviously!

chicken thighs, skin-on, that had been marinated in a spice mix (ground cumin, ground coriander, ground ginger, turmeric, chilli powder, oregano, salt and pepper, all mixed in with olive oil and fresh lime juice to make a paste that was then rubbed all over the chicken)

coconut cod** - a lovely recipe I found in one of my barbecue books. Fish marinated in coconut cream, that had been infused with lime, garlic, ginger, shallot and lime juice - bring all that to the boil and simmer for around 10 minutes; cool and then use as a marinade for the fish, which you then cook on the barbecue in a foil parcel.

And sausages. Because you can't have a barbecue without sausages!

Anyway, plenty left over, so I'm taking chicken and sausages to work for my lunch.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Great to hear about your ideal blood pressure, @chocchip88!

Morning everyone. I haven't been posting much but so impressed with everyone!

m0therofdragons · 04/07/2018 10:33

It's a colleague's birthday, there is sooo much cake. Avoided so far but it's only 10.30am Blush

Justmuddlingalong · 04/07/2018 10:43

I'm currently sporting my new, size 10 jeans 👖 with no hint of a muffin top. . Have reached a personal best weight on this bootcamp, of 9st 10, after being up and down last week. I've added my graph to show the ups and downs of the last 7 and a bit weeks.

itchyknees · 04/07/2018 10:57

That graph is lovely!

I fell RIGHT off the wagon last night, and felt so so so shit that I am never doing it again, regardless of weight loss. I had to finish work early and came home sweating and dizzy. Horrid. And all from Haribo. Never again.

prettybird · 04/07/2018 12:48

NSV: I'm wearing a pair of very old Per Una neat fitting Size 14 short shorts today Smile When I rescued them (along with the pretty dress I wore to the garden party) from the spare bedroom, they weren't decent wearable. Now I can wear them in the garden - although there is still a bit of muffin top Blush so won't be wearing them to the shops Wink

ajandjjmum · 04/07/2018 12:58

Off to the O2 tonight and Wimbledon tomorrow. Think I might not have a good week - too many nice things happening at the moment! Then of course there's the football on Saturday.

The big change is that I don't beat myself up about it, feel guilty, and lose motivation. I accept it, and stick religiously to this woe whenever I can. Will KOKO from Sunday onwards.

prettybird · 04/07/2018 13:34

Had a BBQ at a friend's place last night (and some Pimms made with Diet lemonade and some red wine Blush). Had the 100% meat burger, the (fatty) lamb chop (even ate the fat that the others left behind Grin) and refused the Bratwurst because it looked carby. Friend then looked it up and it was less than a gramme per sausage so I hd a wee bit of his. Halo

Finished off the green salad that I'd brought along that was left over from the night before - plenty of rocket, kale and cucumber in it.

Finallymorethananumber · 04/07/2018 16:45

Hi there, this is my first post on the forum although I have been reading for years.

Firstly, can I thank each and everyone of you? You are all inspiring. I have read each thread from week 1 onwards since I started my own journey 3 1/2 weeks ago. Your stories, pictures and graphs are amazing. I am definitely in awe of you all. And that spreadsheet! Wow, just wow. So much information in one handy place.

I have followed b/c since my doc told me I was in danger of becoming diabetic if I didn't start looking after myself. I guess I knew that but it really brings it home. I have more carbs than I should as the doc also put me on 3 iron pills a day saying to take with orange juice for absorption. I drink the minimum I can but it still adds up. Only 5 weeks of them to go.

Still in this time not a single bit of bread, pasta, rice, cake etc has passed my lips and I was thrilled to weigh myself today for the first time since the doctors and found I have lost 12lbs.

I know from all your wise words it will not always be like this, that there will be up and downs but I am on board for the long (it's going to be so very long!) haul, if you'll have me.

Rshard · 04/07/2018 18:47

Welcome finally, you’re doing really well!

m0therofdragons · 04/07/2018 19:13

Well done @Finallymorethananumber that's brilliant.

I'm only on week 2 but despite completely sticking to plan and avoiding cakes on Monday at the staff bake off competition and today for a colleague's birthday, I seem to have put on 2 lbs. I'm so easily demotivated. Making myself keep going until Monday though, one week at a time!

bettyblueeyes83 · 04/07/2018 19:46

Just checking in with (finally) some positive outcomes now that I'm back on track. I saw 199 on the scale this morning - so pleased to be back under 200. And then putting my jacket on I noticed all the buttons did up comfortably, which they didn't a few weeks ago. So out of curiosity I did my measurements and I've lost 6cms off the bust and 8cm off the waist. Smile

Good day foodwise. Wasn't hungry in morning so just coffee for breakfast, then ham and cheese omelette for lunch and pork chops, creamy coleslaw and broccoli for tea with lots of butter. Hunger right down this week and I'm following lead not to eat through anxiety, boredom etc.

Justmuddlingalong · 04/07/2018 21:06

And so it begins...The 'skinny' comments have started. A few people over the last few days have been saying something to me, but ended the sentence with 'skinny' in a mocking tone. Yes I've lost a bit of weight. But I'm 5ft 3 and 9st 10 so definitely not skinny. Why does this happen and why do people do it? There'd be a bloody uproar if I said, "cuppa tea fatty?!

Rshard · 04/07/2018 21:30

Share your frustration justmuddling, I was called scrawny today - to my face. My face did this Confused and my colleague backtracked furiously.

qumquat · 04/07/2018 21:38

justmuddling it's so true. People are very quick to criticise (perceived) skinniness. It hasnt been an issue for me in recent years but I remember it well!

I am feeling very proud of myself as after getting advice from biwi yesterday I've had a really good food day and coped with a 13 hour work day complete with butchering my leg and bleeding everywhere and students having panic attacks and a fight, without going near a carb. Im hungry for some supper now so will have some yogurt and looking forward to keeping this up tomorrow. (Except I've just realised the cupboard is bare and can't leave dd to go the shop now. Bugger. Hopefully I can get to the shop before work tomorrow.)

Bf: Avocado and mackerel with lemon juice (yum)
Lunch: Leftover salmon with broccoli and courgette in butter
Tea: 2 Eggs mashed with butter plus more broccoli and courgette in butter
Supper: FF Greek yogurt and a slice of cheese
Snack: pork scratchings

BIWI · 04/07/2018 22:37

They do it because they’re jealous - and your obvious weight loss is a threat to them.

Not nice, but it’s true.

Justmuddlingalong · 04/07/2018 22:40

Hmm That makes sense. Like the 'silly diet' comments. So, belittling us, the ones who are making the effort, gives them an excuses not to bother trying? IYKWIM?

Rshard · 05/07/2018 06:02

I think you’re right BIWI, the woman who made the comment to me was also moaning that she’d pit weight on.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 05/07/2018 07:06

Hello everyone,

I bootcamped last year very successfully but stopped lowcarbing to see if I could find a balance by eating a more conventional diet. It was a disaster - all the clothes I bought this time last year over boot camp no longer fit and my stomach has ballooned!

I think I have to accept that LCHF is the best option for me and my health. I just really struggle with not eating bread - the other carbs I can do without.

Hoping the support and inspiration here will help me stick with it long-term. Smile

Luki · 05/07/2018 07:26

I have a colleague like that too. She has stopped passing comment though and now just eyes me up while munching furiously on her belvita breakfast biscuit Grin

Popped on the scales this morning and that's 3lbs gone from last week's 6lb gain. Smile Don't think I'll see much more before Monday but at least I'm halfway through fixing the damage I've done!

Luki · 05/07/2018 07:27

Welcome @boldlygoingsomewhere Smile

Welcome newbies.
I too have concluded that this is going to be a long haul woe. It’s the first time my sugar cravings / binge eating have ever been under control.
I too am being told I’m skinny and to be careful (!)
My bmi is 22 and am still not quite down to my pre pregnancy weight Hmm so it’s hardly wasting away!
I agree it’s jealousy

Rshard · 05/07/2018 10:14

Finally managed to weigh in with a 2lb loss, which takes me a grand total of 3lbs this boot camp so far, but a nice round 30 since I started this woe, so happy!

2lbs away from a healthy BMI - don't really believe in it but it's a useful mini goal and then I'll be 3 from my goal.
