Week 8 - Low Carb Bootcamp - only 3 weeks to go!

Morning all.

Here, hopefully, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness Let's just hope this one works Smile

So we have three weeks left. Still time to see a good loss before our final weigh-in. This weather, I think, makes it all easier - so much easier to choose a salad when it's hot. And barbecues are perfect for low carbing (if you're a meat eater, of course!)

We had a barbecue yesterday and we had:

home-made chilli burgers (12% fat organic mince, chopped shallot, chopped red chilli, dried oregano and salt and pepper, whizzed up in the processor to combine). I had mine without the bun, obviously!

chicken thighs, skin-on, that had been marinated in a spice mix (ground cumin, ground coriander, ground ginger, turmeric, chilli powder, oregano, salt and pepper, all mixed in with olive oil and fresh lime juice to make a paste that was then rubbed all over the chicken)

coconut cod** - a lovely recipe I found in one of my barbecue books. Fish marinated in coconut cream, that had been infused with lime, garlic, ginger, shallot and lime juice - bring all that to the boil and simmer for around 10 minutes; cool and then use as a marinade for the fish, which you then cook on the barbecue in a foil parcel.

And sausages. Because you can't have a barbecue without sausages!

Anyway, plenty left over, so I'm taking chicken and sausages to work for my lunch.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Great to hear about your ideal blood pressure, @chocchip88!

@Destinysdaughter - sorry to hear your news Flowers Wine, but look on the bright side - shedding that 15 stone or whatever of not-so DP is going to make your entry on the spreadsheet pretty spectacular next Monday Smile

Have a fabulous time at the festival at the weekend.

qumquat · 06/07/2018 06:41

@destinysdaughter I'm so sorry to hear your news. Is there a friend who might be available at short notice to go to the festival with you? I still think you should go even if it's by yourself. Better to be miserable with good music and entertainment than to be miserable at-home. Like others have said I find I'm more able to cope with upsets on this work without all the sugarhighs and crashes. So if you can stick to bootcamp I think it will really help you emotionally as well as physically.

I've had a better couple of days but finding myself feeling quite sick. Not sure if it's just heat and tiredness. Long days at work plus dd waking at 5 every morning is not a good combination!

qumquat · 06/07/2018 06:43

Hi @redpandamama I remember you! Good to see you back!

Rshard · 06/07/2018 07:25

That’s rubbish destinys, hope you do decide to go to the music festival

BIWI · 06/07/2018 07:34

Aww @Destinysdaughter - that's truly shit. I'm so sorry.

And I know it's easy for me to say, but try not to drown your sorrows too much with either booze or food - because after all, it's only yourself that you're hurting with that.

Flowers and virtual Gin and Wine Smile

@ItsamlmostSummer

Sounds like you're struggling a bit - list out for me what you've been eating and drinking and let me see if I can help you.

I'm not really sure that being perimenopausal is something to blame, although post menopause it's apparently harder to lose weight - so it would be wisest to look at your diet first. I'm interested though that you've already found it works better if you eat more!

This WOE is definitely not about deprivation, so I'm glad you've discovered that Grin

Oh @Destinysdaughter so sorry to read this 💐💐💐 You must be feeling numb! Be kind to yourself and know that there are people here to talk to if you need/want to xx

ilovecherries · 06/07/2018 10:17

I can’t remember who upthread recommended this book, but thank you! I am really enjoying it. It’s an enjoyable read and it has given me a bit of a boost as I’ve been feeling a bit bored and samey recently, and a bit demoralised with my final recalcitrant 10 lbs which is not pissing off at all.

Week 8 - Low Carb Bootcamp - only 3 weeks to go!
NorthernKnickers · 06/07/2018 10:44

Thought I'd measure myself this morning as 'school pants' are now loose instead of snug. Nice NSV: waist is down 3.5 inches and hips 2.5 inches since the start of BC. Under-boob area is now 2 inches smaller and 'around boob' area is 2.5 inches smaller. I didn't measure anywhere else, and so far nobody seems to have noticed, but I'm happy with that 😊

Not ready for a smaller dress size yet (because I forced my fat into the ones I had, even though they were clearly too small!) but at least I now have clothes that actually fit me again now 😂

bingenomore · 06/07/2018 11:18

Destiny - this is the beginning of your new life minus a carby twat ! There really wasn’t a future in it if he was giving you a hard time about this WOE and not supporting you. Enjoy the festival and absorb some of the positive vibes . Have just read the weight loss and menopause tips . I geddit about moderate amounts of protein but how do we know what a 105g of protein looks like ? It doesn’t mean 105g of chicken fillet does it ?
Welcome Red Panda Mama - get back on and you’ll soon be reaping the benefits x

Twoo · 06/07/2018 11:39

Destiny Flowers

Redpanda’ I remember you and welcome back.

Destinysdaughter · 06/07/2018 12:23

Thanks for all the kind words all, really helps me not feel so alone right now. Fell asleep on the sofa last night after too much wine. Full of self recriminations today, I've lost a really decent guy and it was mainly my fault for not listening to what he was saying to me.

On the bright side, at least I'm not hungry!

BIWI · 06/07/2018 13:32

Here's some info about how much protein is in meat etc

OP posts:
StuntNun · 06/07/2018 13:47

I'm not convinced that anyone should be cutting down on protein. It's the most satiating macronutrient. Also in that article the number 2 suggestion is don't eat too much fat. So if you're cutting down on protein and fat the only thing to do is eat more carbs? Nope, because number 4 is watch out for carb creep. So basically the article is saying cut down on all macronutrients... i.e. watch your portion sizes.

itchyknees · 06/07/2018 13:49

That’s v sad Destiny. What WAS he saying that he didn’t feel you could hear? You don’t have to answer but it might help to talk x

itchyknees · 06/07/2018 13:52

Joy here. Bought a pair of linen trousers a few months ago, they made my arse look visible from space. Since dropping a few pounds they fitted ok. So I got another pair in a different colour, and when I put them on, thought they fitted better over my bum. Have just realised that the second pair is a size smaller than the first! Yay!

qumquat · 06/07/2018 13:52

NSV but also stress. I've just bought two new bras in a cup size smaller. Yay! But also they cost £34 each. Boo. Doubt I'll ever get to the kind of cup size that doesn't break the bank but looking forward to my new perkier boobs!

devoncreamtea · 06/07/2018 14:15

Hi everyone! I am still reading the posts and am v. Impressed with everyone's determination and enjoyment of this woe despite life's highs n lows. It gives me hope that I will also be able to stick with it for the long term.

I am about a month behind you all and so have reached the 3/4 week bit and after a raring start (10lbs!!!) have been hopping around the same pound. I have continued to drink wine, so I am having a break from it now and will see if it helps.

Getting bored of eggs!!!!

I am encouraged by your tales of smaller boobs, since having and feeding my 5 children (😬) mine are waay too big and I need shrinkage in that department ASAP! Otherwise I think I am doing ok, I have had a few wobbles where I have made (deliberate) mistakes but it seems to send me back into a couple of days of feeling rough and fuzzy so It isn't worth it...

Still have lots to go - would like to lose 2 stone from where I am now - so I plan to be on the next bc where hopefully I will join in the threads a bit more.

Fwiw destiny I reckon you should go to the music festival and have some fun too 🙂

Thanks everyone!

Rshard · 06/07/2018 14:43

Some lovely nsv’s- yay for smaller trousers and bras!!

I remember you too redpanda, wasn’t there another panda when we started??

m0therofdragons · 06/07/2018 15:05

Week 2 for me and it's not budging. No idea what I'm doing wrong and I expected it to slow after the first week but not stop entirely. I've not deviated at all and because I've been using mfp to plan meals I can see I'm under 1200 every day. Will keep going over the weekend and see what Monday brings, sigh

prettybird · 06/07/2018 15:27

You might actually be eating too few calories m0ther Shock

Are you sure you are having enough fat?

Also, sometimes a big loss in one week means none for the next few. Remember all those charts that people have shared - the weight loss is not linear, but the overall trend is down Smile As you're only in your 2nd week, it's a bit too soon to be seeing a trend Grin

m0therofdragons · 06/07/2018 16:34

I'm genuinely not hungry and am eating 3 meals a day. I'm short so 1200 should equal loss on its own forgetting low carb. I haven't been trying for under at all and am cooking with butter, enjoying the fat on my pork loin steak and my bacon and egg fry up at work this am was awesome. I'm having more % of fat than protein.

RedPandaMama · 06/07/2018 16:55

Hi @ilovecherries can I ask - does the Keto Living Day by Day book have UK measures for the recipes? Or is it all cups etc? It looks really good but converting from American recipes is a faff!
