Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the first half

Morning all.

A very early start to this week's chat thread, as I'm 8 hours ahead of the UK right now.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness one more time

Hopefully by now, low carbing is starting to become a habit rather than a hardship. We're out of the dreaded weeks 4 & 4, so for those who haven't seen much movement on the scales, things should start to get going again now (although don't expect to see huge losses from here on - around 1-2lbs a week is a normal and healthy rate of loss)

For those who aren't seeing any movement in the bathroom Grin make sure you're eating plenty of fat - see how you can find ways to add more fat to your diet. Similarly water. And look at what you're eating, and be sure that you're getting your carbs in the main from veg and salad.

I have noticed that there's a fair bit of slippage cheating starting to creep in, and I'm calling you all on that! Remember that this isn't an especially forgiving way of eating, and if you cheat, you won't lose!

But good luck for the rest of the week

Let's call it a carb re-feed Athel and draw a line under it, after all I think we've both been at this for quite some time.

We were resetting our Leptin, yeah!

StuntNun · 13/06/2018 14:12

Shag I was pointing out that even the guy that started us all off on this low fat crusade didn't believe that there was anything bad about dietary cholesterol.

parsleyeatingbunny · 13/06/2018 15:18

I have stayed the same this week both in terms of weight and blood pressure - so just under 11 stone. I'd love to be just half a stone lighter by the summer holidays, but it seems to be rather slow going for me. Have bought some coconut oil so hopefully that will help me consume more fat. Just about to try some in green tea Brew

Waswittyonce · 13/06/2018 16:18

Sorry @ajandjjmum I'm such a dimwit I forgot to paste the link! Here you go;
and here's another,

ilovecherries · 13/06/2018 19:12

ragz, you look fab-u-lous!

ShagMeRiggins · 13/06/2018 19:22

ragz the wrap looks so real. I’m assuming recipe is easy to find on thread or internet? Currently making fajitas for the children, and husband and I will have a fajita salad instead of using tortillas, but would be nice to grab a wrap and eat more easily. Is the egg wrap grabbable?

Thanks for clarification, StuntNun. It’s kind of what I thought but wondered if I was missing a very, very dry British nuance. 😏

Good day today, but out and about so much that I’m desperately trying to catch up on my water intake. It’s easy as pie when I’m home for the day, and easy as pie in a work or training environment (same place all day), but not so easy when dashing from place to place. Damn you, pelvic floor after babies and also ageing...!

Divette · 13/06/2018 19:57

Urgent help! We don’t eat pork and have cooked this pork filled with sausage and wrapped with bacon. Is it cooked?! Cooked for over the necessary time but looks pink! Confused

StuntNun · 13/06/2018 20:01

It looks fine Divette pork is supposed to stay pink when cooked.

Divette · 13/06/2018 20:08

Thanks so much StuntNun-we’re taking your word for it! Grin

Day out today so very light on water, just like Riggins. I went to Wahaca for lunch which wasn't a great low carb choice actually, ended up ordering 3 smallish dishes which was too much and still a few rogue carbs in there: guacamole with crackling, cauliflower cheese and a really delicious chargrilled hispi special which did have some spelt on it.

Lovely chicken dish in the oven....unfortunately the top oven which was not the one I'd actually turned on. Small glass of red to calm my fury at my stupidity.

RedPandaMama · 13/06/2018 21:23

Just checking in. Had a shitty day today but eaten really well so proud of myself. Usually I would reach for wine and chocolate.

LeapinLizards · 13/06/2018 21:25

@shagmeriggins egg wraps are great & extremely grabbable. I make them in a pancake pan but any frying pan will do. Beat the egg then pour into pan - you want it as thin as possible, like a pancake. Flip it after a few mins. Then let it cool on a plate & stuff it with whatever you fancy, like a real wrap. I like it with avocado, lettuce & cheese.

Anyone watching The Fast Fix: Diabetes on ITV? Missed the beginning of it, but it looks like a version of the Blood Sugar Diet, with an ultra-strict 800 calorie 8 week regime to reverse T2 Diabetes.

Just seen Catherine Schrager (spelling?), the chef, doing a wee "insulin" resistance test (they didn't call it that) and being shocked at how badly her body reacts to a meal compared to others.

I have to admit to musing that she would love Boot Camp and this HFLC WoE. Imagine the recipes she would come up with Grin

prettybird · 13/06/2018 22:02

Not Catherine Schrager - Rosemary Shrager Blush

MelanieCheeks · 13/06/2018 22:49

Ok, I can take a big stick for the team!

Away on a road trip so I knew it was going to be hard to stick to plan. And i the end I abondoned any attempt.

But I'm back now, A-ha were brilliant in concert, I managed to get to running training this evening whch improved my mood, and I'm really looking forward to getting back to the good sleeps, glowing skin, oh, and weight loss.

KOKO!

abbey44 · 13/06/2018 23:34

I watched that programme on +1 and I have mixed feelings so far - I was impressed by the results they all got, but those shakes looked absolutely disgusting! I wonder why they didn't follow The 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet itself? I'm going to watch the second half of their experiment tomorrow evening and hope that they introduce the principles of low-carbing, as that's what's going to help the guinea pigs maintain the diabetes control when they return to their everyday lives.

I was a bit pissed off, too, when they said you absolutely mustn't do this if you're on insulin. You have to be a bit more watchful to begin with, but I've found that the lack of ups and downs in blood sugars actually makes calculating insulin dosages very much easier. And cuts the insulin I need massively.

prettybird · 13/06/2018 23:45

I think the key thing in your case Abbey is that you have a supportive consultant. Smile

but the "system" can't possibly recommend this WoE to "plebs" because they can't be trusted as it is too "hard" Hmm a bit like Tom Kertidge selling out on his Dopamine Diet principles and promoting calorie counting instead even though he acknowledged that HFLC was what worked fur him but was "too difficult" Hmm

abbey44 · 14/06/2018 00:03

You're right prettybird about the supportive consultant - that does make a big difference. But I do think that as time goes on, this WOE is gaining more and more credence, as it's being proven to work. Maybe as the momentum for it grows, it will overcome the dogma we've been fed (see what I did there? Grin) for the last thirty years. We can but hope.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/06/2018 06:11

Thanks, Kleptronic. Blush A slight gain this morning from my lapse, but was back on it yesterday and will be today. Still feeling rubbish enough that I'm on warm water for breakfast, as I just can't face coffee/cream.

Waswittyonce · 14/06/2018 07:16

@ajandjjmum I'm sorry, I posted the wrong link, this is the one I meant to share;

Gammeldragz · 14/06/2018 07:17

shagme as lizards said, just thin omelette. Mine were floppy, but I filled with sloppy hot stuff!

No weight lost for a week, but pain and painkillers are being blamed. Hoping for a whoosh once I'm out of this phase. Koko until then.

farine · 14/06/2018 08:22

Lost another 0.4lbs today. Really pleased with this slow but downward trajectory. Will be wonderful if it keeps carrying on. Still 2lbs off where I was mid point of week 2 though, but hoping to hit that by Monday weigh in

ilovecherries · 14/06/2018 08:38

I find many doctors are buying into the LC message, but the high fat one is still scary for them. (It still scares me, sometimes!)

prettybird · 14/06/2018 08:44

I do muse about that at times ilovecherries - as I serve myself slices of butter WinkGrin

Rayna37 · 14/06/2018 09:28

Aseem Malhotra's Pioppi Diet is 99p today on Kindle, I think DH has a digital copy but I've downloaded anyway, fairly essential reading for us all I think!
