Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the first half

Morning all.

A very early start to this week's chat thread, as I'm 8 hours ahead of the UK right now.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness one more time

Hopefully by now, low carbing is starting to become a habit rather than a hardship. We're out of the dreaded weeks 4 & 4, so for those who haven't seen much movement on the scales, things should start to get going again now (although don't expect to see huge losses from here on - around 1-2lbs a week is a normal and healthy rate of loss)

For those who aren't seeing any movement in the bathroom Grin make sure you're eating plenty of fat - see how you can find ways to add more fat to your diet. Similarly water. And look at what you're eating, and be sure that you're getting your carbs in the main from veg and salad.

I have noticed that there's a fair bit of slippage cheating starting to creep in, and I'm calling you all on that! Remember that this isn't an especially forgiving way of eating, and if you cheat, you won't lose!

But good luck for the rest of the week

Had some leftover sour cream and was looking for something to do with it, found this recipe for American style savoury biscuits ( think they’re like scones ) so thought I’d share it, looks nice! Will try it tomorrow...

simplysohealthy.com/low-carb-sour-cream-biscuits/

JingsMahBucket · 13/06/2018 06:04

@Destinysdaughter thank you so much for that recipe. It looks perfect for breakfast biscuits! Please let us know how it turns out. I’m planning to order some superfine almond powder later this month and try out a bunch of recipes. Regular almond flour just doesn’t work in a lot of recipes I’ve found.

ReadingwithTea · 13/06/2018 06:30

Stuntnun Thank you for explaining about fat-adapting - that is really helpful. I have found the explanation a bit of a boost too. It is good to know that this process is now taking place, but the fact that it is not yet complete has helped me to focus on keeping going!

StillNoClue · 13/06/2018 07:40

Down another 2lb from last week Grin. I've had to start on a new belt hole yesterday

B) eggs, bacon and mushrooms
L) broccoli and beef stir fry
D) salad, including; lettuce, peppers, cucumber, smoked sausage, halloumi and think I have some ceaser sauce.

Having no real problems with the water side of things, but do struggle to keep the fat intake up.

SummerRayne17 · 13/06/2018 07:45

Thank you so much for all the kind messages! My head is spinning already from all the job applications. Each one these days takes ages to complete, not just the online application but there's personality and scenario tests. It's mind boggling! 🙈 (And that's just for jobs at say Asda etc).

I am trying to focus on the future and put what I can't change behind me. We have been dealt a shit hand (the freezer has now packed up too..fantastic timing! 👎🏼) but I am determined to do my best and continue with this woe as much as I can. I will be popping in and out of the thread and even if I don't comment, always read your posts. The advice is great and i am always nabbing meal ideas!

It's my DD's 1st Birthday tomorrow, so something nice to celebrate amidst all the bad. 🎊

KOKO Everyone!
😊

MrsBertBibby · 13/06/2018 07:51

Quietly hopeful. Usually my weight is slightly up Monday, another increase Tuesday, and only dips at the weekend.

Today, it's already down on yesterday. Maybe I'll get a decent drop this week.

I also think there's an improvement in the wodge of fat that has settled on my belly the last year or so. The stylish "cushion strapped in front" look went a while back, but the weird underslung bit seems to be going too. Still got a fine spare tyre to ensure I am not a drowning risk.

farine · 13/06/2018 07:57

Well dinner was a bit of a disaster last night. Came down with a poorly tummy and ended up in bed by 7pm feeling rotten.

On the plus side, I'm down again on the scales this morning. Suspect it's water loss but hoping it keeps off. I've had three days of loss on the trot now which hasn't happened for the entire bootcamp.

Just coffee and cream for breakfast for me, and then plan to have a chicken and oily salad with mayo for lunch. Not sure about tea yet.

Thanks for everyone who's having a tough time this week. Remember the carbs won't make it better, but avoiding them will make you feel better about yourself

Justmuddlingalong · 13/06/2018 09:40

Oh ya dancer!! I've finally shifted the last lb to get me down to my 1st target of 10 stone. Hallelujah! Grin My new target of 9.5 stone is the next goal, but I know if I KOKO I'll get there too. My weight loss graph shows all the ups and downs over bootcamp, so a wee gain or STS isn't the end of the world, when you look at the overall direction. Have a great day everyone. Brew

Our guests have left! It was lovely to see them, but 4 extra people in the house is quite a lot, and they were VERY LOUD.... quite exhausting.

I gained 1.4kg while they were here which I expected because there is a strong pattern of having more booze than usual when they are here (which they only are every 2 years) - and there was also one pizza meal. I have been back on strict BC since Sunday and already lost 0.9kg of that again. Working to get back to where I was last week (82.7kg) which will be my joint lowest weight in the last 10 years (eek) since my twins were born. After that, my next three small goals are 82.5kg, which takes me to the 12 stone-somethings; into the 81-something kgs; and then 81.7kg which will mean I have lost a stone since I started this on April 30th (couldn't wait for the start of BC...!)

Good luck with the jobhunting for you and your DH @SummerRayne17
Sorry to hear about your breakup @bingefest, congratulations keeping your binge to LC options in that tricky time
So sorry for your loss @LeapinLizards
Congratulations @Grimbles!

Hope I have caught up on all the big news - good to hear of everyone who has lost/had NSV; KOKO to those (like me) who have eaten / drunk off plan and are seeing the effects on the scales. Hoping to get to join in more than once a week now!

farine · 13/06/2018 09:59

That's a great and inspiring graph @Justmuddlingalong well done! What's the app you've used, I think it would help me to track in a graph format so I can see the overall downwards trajectory

Justmuddlingalong · 13/06/2018 10:03

@farine it's the actiBMI from Android play store. I weigh daily and find the graph really keeps me on track.

Kleptronic · 13/06/2018 10:13

Well I crashed and burned last night. Bah. Back on it today.

Rshard · 13/06/2018 10:20

That’s fab, well done justmuddling! Mini goals work for me too, they keep me on track

AthelstaneTheUnready · 13/06/2018 10:26

Kleptronic, apologies, it must have been me you crashed into to.

Bah indeed.

Back on it today, but feeling stressed and wobbly this morning, and I know it's from the overload of carbs.

Congratulations, just! I like your and mandate's small goals. Mine today is teeny tiny - to get to the end of the day without blowing up again. Blush

Waswittyonce · 13/06/2018 10:41

Stumbled across this the other day, might be worth showing your dh @ajandjjmum
The last 30 years of dietary advice based on someone's egotistical ramblings.

ajandjjmum · 13/06/2018 10:46

Is there as link Wassittyonce? Be interested to see that! Smile Thanks.

Waswittyonce · 13/06/2018 11:14

@MrsCoyote I know, I'm staggered but so very happy to have so much movement back. I've also noticed my sinuses are much better too, I think it must be down to a reduction of inflammation in my body, perhaps? Don't care, I no longer feel 110 years old, so I'm very happy Smile

prettybird · 13/06/2018 11:16

My weight is well and truly into the "11 stone somethings": was 11 stone 11.5lb on Monday (and yesterday) and was 11 stone 11.25lb this morning! Grin

Was going to copy ilovecherries idea of mini goals in other weight formats - only I've reached it already! Ds always changes to kg and I was 75.0kg before I changed it back to stones and lbs. Smile

2.5lb to go before I enter the "3 figure" weights for the 2nd last time (ie 11 stone 9lb or less). Next time I get to that zone (10 stone 9lb or less), I will be approaching "normal" BMI (recognising that it is a very crude tool) and close to target Grin

ajandjjmum · 13/06/2018 12:11

Fantastic - well done prettybird! I'm happy to have maintained my one pound loss overnight - as after a couple of weeks of standing still, every bit counts!

Lonesurvivor · 13/06/2018 12:16

prettybird well done, you're definitely in the 11s now.
I like the idea of mini goals too, my next close one is to hit two and a half stone off and after that to be under 100kg. It's inspiring to see all those few pounds reach some small target.

I'm feeling a bit meh today, not diet related.
At the grand age of 45 I've been having high blood pressure readings. I had a couple ok ones since losing weight and thought it was sorting itself out but I had the 24hr monitor on and it's very bad. One normal reading throughout the whole 24 hours. It was worse when I was asleep hitting 160/110 at it's worst.
I'm starting meds, which I'd hoped to avoid and been referred for sleep apnea tests.
There is a family history, not at this age though, I've been on medication for RA well over a decade and my weight is probably a huge contributor but my brain is going into over worrying there's an undiagnosed contributing factor.

On the plus side it's made me start taking my need to exercise more seriously. I need to walk to help the RA and usually for weight loss but on this plan I haven't needed to do as much so I've became complacent only going a couple of times a week. When I got the details yesterday my first reaction was to go for a walk rather than eat crap like I previously would've done, so that's progress. I've been overlooking the benefits of regular exercise and this is a reminder of how important my daily walk is so every cloud and all that.

prettybird · 13/06/2018 12:44

I've developed a new technique to address attacks of the munchies which are usually just habit anyway Blush- every time I open the fridge to get myself a slice of salami/a slice of Emmenthal/a cheese triangle, I make myself go and eat a wee slice/scoop of salted butter.

Has the added bonus of upping my fat intake! Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 13/06/2018 13:01

@StuntNun, sorry to be dim but I don’t understand this answer. Can’t quite figure out what conclusion to extrapolate (threw in a big word to show I’m not complete dunce) Grin

AJandJJmum the famous Ancel Keys, the originator of the Diet-Heart hypothesis that put us all on the low fat diet in the first place, wrote that dietary cholesterol intake wasn't relevant because the body produced 10-20 times the amount of cholesterol taken in in the diet.

Rshard · 13/06/2018 13:13

Congratulations prettybird

PuddingAndHotMilk · 13/06/2018 13:33

Congratulations Pretty
I have 1lb to go to get to the 11 something's. ~38 more to go... slow and steady wins the day - I need to find milestones along the way!

Gammeldragz · 13/06/2018 13:46

So many successes on here at the moment, lots of positive thinking.
Flowers to all those struggling with RL stuff.
I'm currently sitting in a beautiful Park on my lunch break, chilling out under a tree. Photo attached Grin

Sharing a photo of my dinner from last night which I had half for lunch. Chili con carne inside thin omelette wrap, baked with mozzarella on too. Gorgeous!
