Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the first half

Morning all.

A very early start to this week's chat thread, as I'm 8 hours ahead of the UK right now.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness one more time

Hopefully by now, low carbing is starting to become a habit rather than a hardship. We're out of the dreaded weeks 4 & 4, so for those who haven't seen much movement on the scales, things should start to get going again now (although don't expect to see huge losses from here on - around 1-2lbs a week is a normal and healthy rate of loss)

For those who aren't seeing any movement in the bathroom Grin make sure you're eating plenty of fat - see how you can find ways to add more fat to your diet. Similarly water. And look at what you're eating, and be sure that you're getting your carbs in the main from veg and salad.

I have noticed that there's a fair bit of slippage cheating starting to creep in, and I'm calling you all on that! Remember that this isn't an especially forgiving way of eating, and if you cheat, you won't lose!

But good luck for the rest of the week

cherries the transformation in your pictures is amazing. You look lovely in both but in that second one to my eye you look very slim.
On the subject of the re-feed I have no idea scientifically how that works but can absolutely see the logic in upping carbs in a healthy wayto get your system moving again. If you are worried about it, I would see it as a small, short experiment to see what happens. Sometimes experiments work, sometimes they fail but if it doesn’t you can always change it again. stuntnun’s advice seems very sound in that if you choose carefully you are unlikely to set off a craving.
The other option is simply to choose maintenance for a while. You look fabulous, really you do, so maybe the answer is to relax and enjoy what you have already achieved.
Sometime last year I posted the link to a Dove video on how we see ourselves versus how others see us. I found it very true and quite moving. Might be worth a watch. I can dig it out if anyone is interested.Smile

Lonesurvivor · 17/06/2018 10:16

Yes please blackMozart that would be interesting to see.

When I looked at the link cereal gave I estimated both my current and start weight to be similar to women 40lb above both my weights.
Interestingly while I considered myself an awful mess starting off and hated photos of me, I don't see think that of any of those women or have any negative connotations looking at the pics.

I’m going out for my youngest DD’s 11th birthday today so am posting it anyway. m.youtube.com/watch?v=XpaOjMXyJGk

clare8allthepies · 17/06/2018 10:24

Have got DP one of those ridiculously huge tomahawk steaks as a Father’s Day treat, not sure what I can make him to go with it. He’s not been keen on celeriac chips when I’ve made them in the past. Any ideas?

Yarboosucks · 17/06/2018 10:31

@clare8 What could be better than mushroom with some shallot and garlic cooked in butter? With some roasted cauliflower and broccoli florets?

Lonesurvivor · 17/06/2018 10:34

Thanks blackMozart

Mimosa1 · 17/06/2018 10:57

Need to catch up with the thread but posting now in a bit of a hurry as I massively fell off the wagon yesterday and don't want this to kick off weeks of the fuckits. A combination of being really hungry before a party and not wanting to be rude (aaargh), prosecco and eating loads of cake, just not good. I can take or leave alcohol, always have been able to, but it certainly saps my willpower wrt to other foods. I figure posting here will mean I get back on the waving today.

NorthernKnickers · 17/06/2018 10:57

I remember seeing that video ages ago. I have no idea how other people see me, but I'm betting they don't see what I see. We are far to critical of our flaws.

ilovecherries · 17/06/2018 12:31

ragz, initially I didn’t have a goal weight, it was just lose and maintain 10%, because that’s the best I thought I could hope for. Then it was to be no longer obese, because I hadn’t seen that for about 25 years. Then I dared to hope that not being overweight might be possible, which is where I am now. But my bmi is still around 24.5 so I don’t have much wriggle room, plus my waist is still more than half my height, which does bother me. Another 10lbs off would be me at 10 and a half stone, comfortably into the healthy range, and would hopefully impact my waist. I suspect it would make me a solid size 10. I have no aspirations to be smaller than that. I don’t have a small frame, and the one time I WAS at the other end of a healthy BMI (about 19) I looked terrible and my periods stopped. I had been quite unwell, which triggered the weight loss, but even though I never feel out of the healthy range, it was clearly too low for me.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 17/06/2018 13:14

ok, have bought a pair of size 14 jeans to arrive later this week. hopefully by then ill fit in them!!!

Laska5772 · 17/06/2018 13:16

Wow cherries Just wow. but you inspired me and I am almost a stone down now ( with another one to go I hope)

Itchyknees · 17/06/2018 13:28

Your waist should be less than half your height? I never knew that!

Cherries, you are an inspiration!

Gammeldragz · 17/06/2018 14:20

ilovecherries wow, I'd never have guessed that you look at you. My waist is 4" less than half my height but I am tall and hourglass shaped (maybe). I still look a lot more overweight compared to you and am more a 14 than a 12, despite my BMI being 23.5.
itchy yes and it's a better predictor for health than BMI.

Mandate · 17/06/2018 15:03

Thanks for the low carb pizza recipe @Iamnotacerealkiller - I am not really making any of those kind of low-carb bread etc alternatives, I am trying to stick to foods that are 'naturally' low carb, if that makes sense? I would rather have a real pizza once in a (very long) while than start having alternatives that don't quite live up to the real thing and will push up my carb levels. The other factor is, that DH almost certainly would not want the low carb version...!

Amazing change @ilovecherries - your slow and stready progress sticking with the rules is a real inspiration, I have gone back and read other threads for more tips etc and to see your progress over the time you have been on BC is really great. And I love your self-compassion for the person in the first picture - for me, I can't work from a place of self-hate to make healthy changes, I have to be kind and loving to myself to want to make things better.

Good luck with getting straight back on it @Mimosa1 - it is one day, it is gone, and today and tomorrow you can make choices you are happier with.

KOKO to everyone!

ilovecherries · 17/06/2018 15:32

Weight distribution is funny. At my heaviest I in a 22/24 at 5’7 and people a lot heavier than me seemed to be able to wear a 16/18. Now that I’ve lost a lot of weight, I seem to be often in smaller sizes than people of a similar weight. My waist is still 34.5 though. Angry. I think because I’ve got 32K boobs it gives me more and hourglass shape, but I’m actually still an apple.

Giraffeski · 17/06/2018 16:15

Fathead pizza!!
So, so yummy.
I actually think I prefer this to normal pizza (I am coeliac though so only comparing to gluten free ones!)

Great photos ilovecherries and definitely a motivator to keep us KO. You must be feeling so good now, looking at how far you’ve come. Wow! Well done.

Seafour · 17/06/2018 17:33

Morning all, I survived the BBQ without falling off the wagon but did drink some champagne.

Today I've had a lazy day and probably not eaten enough.

B raspberries with yogurt
L cold burger with remoulade and coleslaw
D BBQ again to eat up the leftovers from last night

1 creamy coffee, water 2l

Gammeldragz · 17/06/2018 18:00

So, today I had 3 tsp of extra thick cream for breakfast. Chorizo and camembert for lunch and a lamb kebab with loads of salad for dinner, followed by strawberries and more extra thick cream. Not enough veg, but I'm pretty sure I've had plenty of fat!

Proper meals again tomorrow!

Yarboosucks · 17/06/2018 18:01

I have roasted some cauliflower and broccoli to have cold with my dinner.... Can't stop picking at it!

farine · 17/06/2018 19:56

@ilovecherries just catching up on posts and want to say you look fab in that picture.

I can't remember if you said you exercise but if you are wanting to get your waist down maybe some targeted weights work could help?

clare8allthepies · 17/06/2018 20:00

Dinner was lovely, DP had his half a cow, I had a more sensibly sized steak, and we had mushrooms, baked fennel with Parmesan and peppercorn sauce.

Plantlover · 17/06/2018 20:03

Seafour

Know exactly what you are talking about about your eldest child but I'm determined not to eat my way through things. I'm exercising instead!

ilovecherries · 17/06/2018 20:09

Farine, thank you :). I work with a personal trainer (got 12 sessions for my 60th birthday), and I started running in December. I was in and out of a wheelchair and crutches for most of my 50s though after a nasty accident at 48. I was really lucky a couple of years ago to meet a surgeon who was prepared to try some new surgery, and it worked. I am beyond lucky really, I was very fortunate. There are limitations to what I can do though, and I (and the PT!) are cautious in the extreme.

Divette · 17/06/2018 20:35

Amazing photo cherries - I so want to be able to post similar this time next year!

Can I ask about periods please ladies? How do you find them to be on LCHF and how do they affect your weight loss? I’m currently having my first one and it’s definitely different! Mine usually builds up annoyingly slowly over about a week and then starts properly but this was bam yesterday-appeared and we’ll and truly here, no messing! I also had a huge headache yesterday, awful cramps through the night and have felt (and still feel) really really sickly to the point of not really wanting to eat much at all.

What does it normally do for you on the scales? I’n Half expecting a rubbish weigh in tomorrow but am not sure if i’m Justified in that?

Thank you
