Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the first half

Morning all.

A very early start to this week's chat thread, as I'm 8 hours ahead of the UK right now.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness one more time

Hopefully by now, low carbing is starting to become a habit rather than a hardship. We're out of the dreaded weeks 4 & 4, so for those who haven't seen much movement on the scales, things should start to get going again now (although don't expect to see huge losses from here on - around 1-2lbs a week is a normal and healthy rate of loss)

For those who aren't seeing any movement in the bathroom Grin make sure you're eating plenty of fat - see how you can find ways to add more fat to your diet. Similarly water. And look at what you're eating, and be sure that you're getting your carbs in the main from veg and salad.

I have noticed that there's a fair bit of slippage cheating starting to creep in, and I'm calling you all on that! Remember that this isn't an especially forgiving way of eating, and if you cheat, you won't lose!

But good luck for the rest of the week

Finally caught up! Been koko here but busy busy so never quite getting to the end of the thread! leapin so sorry to hear your news Flowers
Congrats to grimbles, lovely news.

I'm another little pound down this week (I am nothing if not consistent - 1lb per week since the start of this bc!). Survived a trip to the cinema last night, sat and ate one of my keto bounty bars and said no to the minstrels, peanut m&m's and revels that were being passed around Halo

Today so far:
B: boiled eggs with mayo
L: spinach and feta omelette, few raspberries with cream

Well done to all for sticking with it through the good time and the hard times xx

Justmuddlingalong · 12/06/2018 13:57

Yesterday was my 1st day of using psyllium husk. I can publicly announced that things are slooowly moving. Grin

TerfsUp · 12/06/2018 13:57

I'm happy for RShard! (Swedes are delicious roasted.)

BIWI · 12/06/2018 14:33

I have to confess I'm always rather grossed-out by the idea of mayo at breakfast which crops up on here quite a bit! Confused

"Porridge" for breakfast for me today, a lovely treat I try to keep to a couple of times a week: today was 2tbsp each ground almonds and ground flaxseeds, 1tbsp each chia and mixed seeds, and a couple of tsp of Psyllium husk, with milk, coconut oil and (proper, 100%nuts) peanut butter.

Found some "duck crackling" in the foodie bit of the garden centre which made a nice treat for the cinema with my Starbucks Americano with cream.

Avocado and Cheshire cheese omelette for lunch. Thai green chicken curry for dinner later with some green veg "rice" I found on my first foray to Iceland, hoping it's nice!

ajandjjmum · 12/06/2018 15:54

BIWI - he's very hesitantly making his comments! Grin One question he did have this lunchtime, won't eating so much fat play havoc with cholesterol levels?

Itchyknees · 12/06/2018 15:59

Oh dear me I have the worst PMT. I’ve got a migraine and am totally craving bread. What can I do to take away the urge to eat comfort food?

MrsCoyote · 12/06/2018 16:13

AthelstaneTheUnready I am sorry to report that the conversion sheet (kgs to lbs) does not work.

Another kg gone and I would like to put it in the spreadsheet.
I am particularly happy because I was travelling abroad and I had two meals with some carbs (planned). I did not eat carbs like bread for breakfast or something boring and usual, these were local specialities.
No alcohol. No airplane food. No soda. Just these two meals. These were my rules and I stuck to it. Halo

Twoo · 12/06/2018 16:18

What about some pork scratching Itchyknees?

MrsCoyote · 12/06/2018 16:33

Waswittyonce nice NSW, who would guess that eating can help with back pain and discs. I need that too.

Leapin Flowers

itchyknees I am sorry I have not answered your question from Week3 thread (was away).
I am strict with no alcohol and no bread/pasta/lentils etc. My nemesis is cheese and portion control. And enough water. I do not pick up tomatoes from restaurant salads etc.. so strict but not perfectly strict:)

BIWI thank you (and your team) again for doig these bootcamps, it is such support!

MrsCoyote · 12/06/2018 16:38

itchyknees my weightloss in two months was 8 kgs. More to go, koko.

farine · 12/06/2018 16:54

Done ok so far today. Had meatballs with melted cheese and salad for lunch and currently cooking a Thai chicken curry using coconut milk having fried chicken in butter first. Thrown in some broccoli, cauliflower and mushrooms too. Smells divine.

Drank about 2.5 litres of water so far today so should easily get another litre in.

Off for a run later this evening, hence early tea.

Seeing a 1lb loss on the scales this morning has really cheered me up! If I keep that off this week and maybe drop another 1lb down I'd be delighted.

bingefest · 12/06/2018 17:23

Many Thanks for adding my weight loss to the spread sheet Athelstane - I get very excited looking at it . I echo Leapin Lizard on advising those going through traumatic events to not give up on this WOE. It’s very nurturing and healing . I had a mini-bingette yesterday , sparked by a fairly major life event ( break-up of 10 year relationship ). I ate 5 sausages instead of the intended 2 ( well it was 6 if I
‘m really honest -) and yes the feeling of fullness ( hitherto unknown ) made me stop ! Today I’m back to normal food wise - lovely packed lunch of shredded roast lamb scattered through an oily salad . I’ve got a small avocado for an emergency snack if needed as I don’t get home until 8 . When I get home I’m going to knock up some spicy pork burgers with more salad /FLGV . Loving fatty mince dishes at the moment .Did a very quick Keema(ish ) curry the other night with fried shallots garlic, ginger, coriander, cumin, cinnamon , chilli flakes and lamb mince and at the end I stirred in some cream - had it on little gem lettuce boats . Took 10 minutes and it was divine . Can’t do Emoji s but flowers to everyone with sorrow in their life at the moment and congrats to Grimbles on her fab news

DramaAlpaca · 12/06/2018 17:38

I'm finally somewhere where I have wifi so can use my laptop, instead of fussing around on my phone.

I'd also like to add congrats to Grimbles and send Flowers to those of you who are having tough times.

I managed to find better choices to eat yesterday - the result was no bad dreams or night sweats last night. Clearly, eating too many carbs after being fat adapted for a few weeks triggered the reaction. At this stage I'm looking forward to getting home at the weekend where I can control what I'm eating so much better. In the meantime I'll KOKO & hope I haven't done too much damage.

ReadingwithTea · 12/06/2018 19:30

My weight has fluctuated this past couple of weeks, but I’m v happy with this woe. Weight still lower than at the start, but it seems to be sticking now.

I’m particularly happy with not craving sugar and being able to turn down puddings, cake, ice cream, baguette etc. That is a real breakthrough!! As my weight is sticking, I’m reminding myself of all of those ‘treats’ I would have had during the last four weeks which would have made me crave more and send me on that blood sugar rollercoaster. So I’m glad I haven’t felt the need to eat all that sugar.

Does anyone know how to tell if you’re fat-adapted? Does it happen gradually, or does it start once the glycogen stores have been used up?

sheldonesque · 12/06/2018 19:36

Congratulations to grimbles and her passenger Smile xx
Flowers to those finding it hard at the moment xx

I lost half a pound. No cheating but I spent 5 minutes sniffing a French stick yesterday. And got a funny look in the co-op for stroking the wrapper of their blood orange dark chocolate. Sigh.

The heart wants what it wants. The gob will remain firmly shut to it.

I'm upping my exercise to see if that helps.

Best wishes all. Smile

sheldonesque · 12/06/2018 19:43

I have gone down approximately two cup sizes though. Not breastage but backfat.

I'm proper chuffed with that Grin

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/06/2018 19:45

Fixed, MrsCoyote

Don't touch the blue cells, anyone!

Binge, hope you're doing ok with the break up. Flowers

I have had a bad day today, involving potatoes and wine. It's because I had my mini NSV yesterday of getting back into my jeans. I'm so stupid. Every time I hit a milestone I completely lose the plot. Perhaps I'm better off without milestones...

StuntNun · 12/06/2018 19:54

Reading the bulk of fat-adaption takes place within the first two weeks (this is the reason for the first two weeks of Bootcamp being stricter than the rest - too encourage the adaption process to take place as quickly as possible.) But the complete process takes about six weeks which is why some people find that it takes a little longer for exercise performance to come back up to previous levels.

AJandJJmum the famous Ancel Keys, the originator of the Diet-Heart hypothesis that put us all on the low fat diet in the first place, wrote that dietary cholesterol intake wasn't relevant because the body produced 10-20 times the amount of cholesterol taken in in the diet.

MrsBertBibby · 12/06/2018 19:58

So sorry Binge. Hope you have decent support.

I did better for lunch today, leaves, avocado, oil, pine nuts and cheese.

Need to shift my butt and make dinner.

Rshard · 12/06/2018 20:09

Hope you’re ok binge Flowers

Your baguette sniffing and chocolate stroking made me laugh sheldon

Thanks terf for sharing my joy at finding a swede! I made cottage pie and it was lovely!

GiantPandaAttacks · 12/06/2018 20:32

binge hope you’re doing ok.

Goodasgoldilox · 12/06/2018 20:52

Sorry to hear about the break-up Binge - glad you are keeping this WOE going despite this.

Baguette-sniffing made me smile too.

I am resolutely thinking of bread with roses. They both smell wonderful. I don't need to eat them to enjoy them very much indeed.

BIWI · 12/06/2018 20:53

Flowers @bingefest

Take care of yourself. Try not to dive headfirst into the carbs though!

Goodasgoldilox · 12/06/2018 20:55

Scent is a theme here just now.

I'm not craving anything yet but have plans in place.

For emergencies, I was wondering about sniffing chocolate while tasting butter. Sense of smell is much greater than sense of taste. It might work!
