Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the first half

Morning all.

A very early start to this week's chat thread, as I'm 8 hours ahead of the UK right now.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness one more time

Hopefully by now, low carbing is starting to become a habit rather than a hardship. We're out of the dreaded weeks 4 & 4, so for those who haven't seen much movement on the scales, things should start to get going again now (although don't expect to see huge losses from here on - around 1-2lbs a week is a normal and healthy rate of loss)

For those who aren't seeing any movement in the bathroom Grin make sure you're eating plenty of fat - see how you can find ways to add more fat to your diet. Similarly water. And look at what you're eating, and be sure that you're getting your carbs in the main from veg and salad.

I have noticed that there's a fair bit of slippage cheating starting to creep in, and I'm calling you all on that! Remember that this isn't an especially forgiving way of eating, and if you cheat, you won't lose!

But good luck for the rest of the week

A less then brilliant day for me - a threatening migraine forced me into emergency territory with a full fat coke + painkiller combo. I know it doesn’t sound like it works, but it does and just kept the headache bubbling along instead of getting worse. I had about just over half of a 250ml can. So about 18g of carbs (pure sugar 😭) so gulging water now in the hopes of flushing it all out 😂. On the plus side it was revoltingly sweet proving my tastebuds have changed.

3littlemonkeys82 · 11/06/2018 20:21

Is the app libra weight loss?

Seafour · 11/06/2018 20:23

Right caught up on the thread at last, phew

Well done everyone for making it into week five.

Ilovecherries it was bad enough having a crush on you but with a thigh gap as well you have become the stuff of fantasy. Please don't start farting glitter and fairy dust or I may have to track you down in RL Grin

Cerealkiller take it easy and be kind to yourself while you recoverThanks

Guymartin well done for surviving the exam, enjoy your evening.

Tracey so sorry that you're having a hard time coming to terms with your new diagnosis, keep posting and talking to us hereThanks

In other news I've had a depressing weekend firstly going to try on wedding outfits for ds2's wedding in July and secondly realising that I need to lose at least another 20lbs before I'm in a normal BMI range.
Tried on some nice outfits but nothing that I absolutely loved and found all of the fitted styles that I love impossible to wear without sizing up because I'm such an odd shapeAngry

Rayna37 · 11/06/2018 20:26

Aromatic just checking you realise hummus isn't ok for bootcamp? Chickpeas are about 16g carbs per 100g. I've been making it for the baby but not struggling to resist now I know opening a tin of chickpeas smells like opening a full nappy. Thanks for that one, DS! ruined forever

Food today, back on track:
B: 2 eggs scrambled with butter
One coffee with cream
L: half an avocado, coleslaw, cheesy egg mayo, tomato, cucumber, olives. A few strawberries in thick cream.
D: leftover coq au vin with lots of buttery kale and a bit of Onken set yogurt with Psyllium husk in (medicinal).

qumquat · 11/06/2018 20:30

Flowers for cereal leapin and tracey and anyone else who is struggling at the moment. Flowers also for randomcuntowner if you are still around.

1lb up for me which is frankly a much smaller gain than deserved as I binged on 3 days last week. I've decided I need to accept that my eating being as disordered as it is I'm likely to binge occasionally, but getting straight back on the horse is the best way forward.

I'm doing this for the NSVs rather than weight loss. So my NSVs continue to be much better sleep, much better mood, much calmer and more confident at work, restless leg syndrome much less problematic, IBS attacks much less frequent. As sure as night follows day all of these evaporate if I binge, but at least I know how to attain them now. Now I just need to work on lessening my mile wide self destructive streak!

qumquat · 11/06/2018 20:32

@giantpandattacks I have read some interesting research on how magnesium supplements can help prevent migraines and cluster headaches. I don't know is if you have tried this. They have certainly helped with my headaches.

traceyturnblatt · 11/06/2018 21:09

Thanks, I'm so sorry that I'm still banging on about it. I hate moaning!

I think I have it sorted in my head then I'll wake up with a side effect of the condition and it just leaves me close to tears.

Uhh, just need to buck up and carry on!

GiantPandaAttacks · 11/06/2018 21:23

qumquat is it a particular type of magnesium? I take one daily as it helps with vitamin d absorption but at the moment nothing is helping! I’m awaiting some more hospital appointments to hopefully figure out why they’re so frequent and bad.

Lonesurvivor · 11/06/2018 21:41

This is the weight record app I've been yapping on about

Well done everyone and thanks for all the inspiration - congrats especially to those of you who have fallen off the wagon but got straight back on again - that is such a hard thing to do and I think many of us have derailed for months in the past because we didn’t simply “ jump back on “ .I’m loving this WOE and after a static couple of weeks I’ve lost 2.4 this week . Athelstane could you kindly put down 156.4 for me on the SS .? Like some others I’m nearing a stone breakthrough and when I see the 10s I’m going to go clothes shopping . Let’s kOKO and be inspired by Cherries thigh gap . Actually come to think of it I caught sight of a rib yesterday ... I’ll just go and check it out and see if it’s still there .....( I was in a funny stretched out position reaching up for something)

borowren · 11/06/2018 21:59

Is there a guide to how much fat we should be eating? My gut feeling is that I'm not eating enough - the habits of years of conventional dieting are hard to break!
I don't use MFP or anything to track my intake as I find it a bit laborious so it would be great to know what others are eating.

PuddingAndHotMilk · 11/06/2018 22:39

I've been on holiday for 2 weeks but appear to be doing ok. Will input weight into spreadsheet later but I'm at 12lbs total so far and I've lost about 6lb while on hols I think Grin nearly at a stone milestone
Another 37lb to go Confused
Well done everyone, losers and gainers and stayed the samers. It's hard but we are KOKOing

MrsBertBibby · 11/06/2018 22:42

Poor day today. Nibbles of cheese for breakfast, a couple of e b eggs in butter mid afternoon, and I was out hiking with Scouts and by the time the boy was in bed I had no wish for food, so a handful of macadamias and a big glass of water. And lots of cheese nibbles through the day.

Lots of black tea and water in there, but no veg at all. I just could not be arsed to make it.

RuffleBelly · 11/06/2018 22:57

Well another week of staying the same. So week one I lose 7lbs and then weeks 2, 3 and 4 I stay the same! I’ve been good albeit bored with the food. I think the amount of fat I’m eating is maybe a bit low - I’m buying the full fat versions of things but having lots of grilled meat and salad (with an olive oil and red wine vinegar dressing).

I’m glugging water back although not measuring it. I have a pint glass with each meal and a 500ml bottle I filled four times today so I think I’m getting enough.

The only things I’ve had ‘extra’ is the odd cup of coffee with milk (maybe 3 cups a week but I had given up coffee) and the zero electrolyte tabs (1 a day).

Not really sure what I’m doing wrong.

RedPandaMama · 11/06/2018 23:05

A good day today! Did a workout and lots of walking! 2 meals out and stuck to the plan. I did have 2 cocktails but it was the only way I could avoid dessert as I needed something in front of me. Feeling positive as I've definitely stayed under my goal of 50g carbs for first day back on plan.

prettybird · 11/06/2018 23:12

I think you've worked out where you're going wrong Ruffle - you need more fat. Grilled meat means that the fat is coming out your meat. If you have, say, a lamb chop, do you eat its fat?

How much butter is on your veg or oil in your dressing? Can you make homemade mayonnaise with plenty of Extra Virgin Olive oil!

If you're not keen on the texture of fat, could you make something like pork belly with the fat grilled to crispiness?

Can you have herb tea with a spoonful of coconut oil? (If you don't like the taste of coconut like me , the KTC stuff is flavourless - and has the added advantage of being cheap Wink) I barely notice the oil - except it leaves my lips feeling moisturised Grin.

I think it was StuntNun who explained that once you are keto/fat adapted, you need to eat plenty of fat so that your body knows there is plenty available - so it continues to "dine in" on your existing body fat, which is easier than trying to convert the fat you are eating Grin

ItsalmostSummer · 12/06/2018 00:38

@BIWI yes you’re right. Fair call. Drinking lots of water is the full plan. So no, I have not done full boot camp. I’m going to have to up my water intake :)

BIWI · 12/06/2018 01:33

@RuffleBelly

Yes! You need to eat more fat. Grilling isn't the way to go, I'm afraid.

Are you also buying/eating lean cuts of meat/fish?

How about some lovely cream-based sauces? Blue cheese and mushroom sauce, or a cheese sauce, or lemon and mustard? All lovely on meat, chicken or fish. Or on cauliflower, leeks or other veg

I have no idea how much water you should be drinking, as I see you're indexing your weight on the spreadsheet, but just make sure you're drinking as much as you should be.

If you're bored with your food, that's not a good sign - check out the recipe threads for some inspiration. There's no need to eat dull food on this WOE.

But above all, be pleased that you've maintained your half stone loss. Lots of people have gained over the last couple of weeks, so I'd see that as a victory!

But definitely up the fat - make that your focus this week.

@AthelstaneTheUnready
Hi, would you mind deleting me off the spreadsheet please?

I've had a crappy few weeks. My DH lost his job and I have now also found myself in the same situation! So i too am now job hunting, we are so bloody unlucky! 😩 fingers crossed things get sorted sooner rather than later.

My good work on LCHF WOE has totally gone out the window cause of all this and theres no weigh ins to enter.

I'm going to try and get back on track again but probably not going to enter my weighs on here, just follow from afar. So to save you having a blank line, then please remove me.

Well done to everyone who has managed to KOKO the past 4 weeks. I will be popping on to catch up as and when i can. You lot always give me great meal ideas and tips, so thank you.

Keep up the good work!

Oh, Summer, how stressful for you and some Flowers.

Of course I'll do that. Having recently been in the same situation though, I will just be really fucking annoying and say that continuing to try and eat well will help your stress. No insulin swooping and soaring and taking your mood with it.

We'll keep all our fingers crossed that you both have a successful week jobhunting this week. Star

Rshard · 12/06/2018 06:41

Fingers crossed for the job hunting summer

MrsBertBibby · 12/06/2018 06:51

Really sorry to hear that Rayne.

Hope the job hunting leads to a really good new start for you. All the best.

Laska5772 · 12/06/2018 06:54
