Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the first half

Morning all.

A very early start to this week's chat thread, as I'm 8 hours ahead of the UK right now.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness one more time

Hopefully by now, low carbing is starting to become a habit rather than a hardship. We're out of the dreaded weeks 4 & 4, so for those who haven't seen much movement on the scales, things should start to get going again now (although don't expect to see huge losses from here on - around 1-2lbs a week is a normal and healthy rate of loss)

For those who aren't seeing any movement in the bathroom Grin make sure you're eating plenty of fat - see how you can find ways to add more fat to your diet. Similarly water. And look at what you're eating, and be sure that you're getting your carbs in the main from veg and salad.

I have noticed that there's a fair bit of slippage cheating starting to creep in, and I'm calling you all on that! Remember that this isn't an especially forgiving way of eating, and if you cheat, you won't lose!

But good luck for the rest of the week

Oh and I wanted to add two days ago my weigh in was a lot less than today’s, so if you can weigh every day it does give you a better picture of what’s happening. (If you like seeing that).

farine · 11/06/2018 14:49

Ohhh feeling a bit of carb flu today after a week off. I'd hoped I'd escape it as wasn't tooo bad over the week but it's here!

I've taken an electrolyte with a pint of water and drank about 2.5 pints so far today. Anything else I can do to banish it?

BIWI · 11/06/2018 14:52

@Itsalmostsummer

I am not drinking enough water. Otherwise I am doing full bootcamp

Well, you're not doing full Bootcamp then are you?!

Please follow the rules! Otherwise you really won't see weight loss

AthelstaneTheUnready · 11/06/2018 15:11

Ach, no, it's fine - I enjoy messing about with spreadsheets and data.

B: 2 eggs, some kefir, some buffalo mozarella (am trying various non-cow's milk products to see what I can tolerate)
L: can't face it, a bit stressed
D: brisket, leeks and broccoli in butter, some walnuts and blueberries as well I think

antimatter · 11/06/2018 15:12

What I am finding interesting in my weightloss journey is that my body every so often finds a happy place it wants to stay in. Now it feels like I am in that place again - 179 lb got the last 4 days. I am hoping I can restart it again. For me it usually means 16:8 for a few days and be careful with calories i.e. not eating too much over all during those 8 hours during which I have decided to eat.

I am extremely happy with my weightloss as this time I lost weight every week, I lost a size in clothes and feel my hunger is under control 80% of the time. 13 lb loss feels significant enough for my clothes to feel looser.

Summertime is much better for me for weightloss and I also promised to myself that all my energy is not to put weight on. This is driving me through days when there are nice foods about.

I am on holiday from Saturday for a week and we are in self catering but will eat out most evenings. I feel I won't stray and can come back with the same weight because I am not feeling like I starved myself any more.

3stonedown · 11/06/2018 15:12

cherries Grin... lucky you! I don't think I have ever in my life had a thigh gap, maybe one day!

prettybird · 11/06/2018 15:15

Just to add: I think my loss this week was added not just by plenty of water (the hot weather has helped - as has ensuring that every few pints, I add some Lo-salt and a squoosh of lemon juice) but also starting to help myself to spoonfuls of butter! Shock

I keep some "nice" salted butter (Issigny or Lurpak) out in a butter dish for dh and ds to spread on their toast and in this nice hot weather, it's very easy to scoop myself a teaspoonful Smile

AromaticSpices · 11/06/2018 16:46

Food today (to keep me accountable again):

L: cucumber, celery, spinach, salami, haloumi fried in butter, mayo, hummus
D: probably chicken/garlic/mushroom/cream, with steamed broccoli

I'm about 2l of water down so far, should get my 3l easily by tonight

@prettybird how are you eating the butter? Adding to stuff or literally eating spoonfuls of it? I don't think I could do that

Well done cherries super envious of thigh gap scenario!!

Yarboosucks · 11/06/2018 16:48

Off topic post here.... spray tans.... I AM A sweaty betty.... face and head in particular. If I get a spray tan, will it run When I sweat?

prettybird · 11/06/2018 16:53

Aromaticspices - as well as adding it to veg, I'm also having the odd spoonful/slice on its own. Good salty stuff I find actually quite nice.

MrsBertBibby · 11/06/2018 17:01

I have been enjoying slivers of butter today. I got some that is Salter than our usual. I do like salty butter!

GuyMartinsSideburns · 11/06/2018 18:08

Thanks for the good luck vibes! Well that was an experience, just hoping I didn’t forget too much Grin I’m studying towards a history degree with the OU, so have just finished my first ‘actual’ year.

Just about to have a bbq for tea, I’m having a couple of cocktails too. Just today I’m allowing myself and enjoying the sunshine and the thought of not having to revise later haha

Have a lovely evening all Smile

Mimosa1 · 11/06/2018 18:12

A PP mentioned that Lidl no longer makes protein rolls. I've found the carbzone low carb bread from Ocado really nice although it's a bit expensive. It's similar to German rye bread and needs to be toasted for a longish time to crisp up but I really like it and only 3.7g carbs per slice.

Chattycatty · 11/06/2018 18:29

My 7 year old is tourturing me!!!!

blackteaplease · 11/06/2018 18:54

Ive just caught up with the end of the last thread. Hugs for Nothern and Leapin. Tough times for both of you.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 11/06/2018 19:10

Find of the week: Montezuma 100% with cacoa nibs and orange oil. 8g per 100, so just under 1g for a couple of squares. Reminds me of Christmas and chocolate oranges, or Matchmakers (join me in the 70s), but guilt-free because a) I can't manage more than 2 squares anyway, and b) it's healthy...

... so this guy says, anyway: how to live forever and be really clever as well

Sort of NSV: although I'm still in my 12-14 knickers (no size inflation in the underwear industry), I'm just about back into my size 6 jeans. Rather an ugly muffin top because they're low-slung, but they do up without straining, iyswim.

Seafour · 11/06/2018 19:11

I've stayed the same but I'm ok with that.

Gammeldragz · 11/06/2018 19:18

Athelstane where did you find that chocolate? Sounds good. I have found it online for £2.59 but was wondering if it was in shops?

Itchyknees · 11/06/2018 19:19

They have it in Waitrose.

I’ve discovered HaloTop ice cream. I don’t need sweet stuff anything like I did bettor.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 11/06/2018 19:42

It was in Sainsbury's, Gammel - can't remember how much though.

Just checked the packet again, and a whopping 54g fat per 100. That's probably why two squares take such a while to eat.

3stonedown · 11/06/2018 19:52

@yarboosucks spray tan or self tan? Not sure about spray haven't had one in years but I'm a bit of a sweaty betty too and self tan a lot. A lot of people tan then go to sleep but I get too hot at night. I do mine first thing and try and stay cool and not run about too much for 2 hours. It only takes am hour to dry but I like to be sure then I shower and have found this works well for me no running

3stonedown · 11/06/2018 19:54

@yarboosucks oops sorry I didn't read your post properly... not sure on sprat tan sorry! Maybe get it done evening and sleep in very cool room that night

clare8allthepies · 11/06/2018 20:03

What was the name of the website/app that someone was using to record their weight loss progress? I’ve been searching but can’t recognise any names.

ScienceNut · 11/06/2018 20:11

1.3lbs for me, slow and steady needed for the next 1/2 stone!
