Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where we're KOKOing!

BIWI · 04/06/2018 07:18

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you

Just a reminder to you all that week 4, like its evil twin week 3, can be a difficult week where weight loss is likely to be minimal or even non-existent.

Please don't despair if you don't see any movement on the scales - this does appear to be quite normal at this point in Bootcamp.

Keep going, keep following the rules - stay away from the chocolate and bread! - particularly make sure you get enough water and fat - and you should see things get going again very soon.

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

seafour I dont know if kefir works with almond milk..remember you need ed full fat milk .... also the grains will probably take some time to really get into production. i was a good month before they tarted making enough for everyday (I now use local gold top milk !)

ilovecherries · 05/06/2018 20:47

Mozart, I didn’t think for a second that you meant that :)

Destinysdaughter · 05/06/2018 20:53

ilovecherries I do get what you're saying and on the feedback form for the hotel I wrote that it would be good to have more low carb options for breakfast and gave examples of the kinds of things that were appropriate.

ShagMeRiggins · 05/06/2018 21:17

Destinysdaughter it’s great you took the trouble to do the feedback form.

I’m inspired, actually, as we have a local farm shop café that does really lovely food but unless you get lucky with soup of the day, all there is is salad (mix of leaves, coleslaw, boiled potatoes—separate or all on plate—and can add ham/cheese).

I’ve often considered suggesting they do a few proper low carb options. Do you mind telling us what you put as your ideas?

This is why ilovecherries’ approach appeals to me (for the poster who didn’t really want to make a fuss at the work catering thingamabob); if we don’t ask for the food we want, we won’t get it.

I certainly understand that restaurants have every right to serve food they love and are proud of. Some restaurants don’t want to cater to all, they have a niche and stick to it. But most are responsive to their customers because they want to stay in business (notoriously difficult business to keep afloat) and the days of being too much of a Sally are long gone.

Make requests, make suggestions, ask if they can give you what you want! The more of us who do this, the better the options will be.

Rayna37 · 05/06/2018 21:34

Agree Riggins. As I'm on mat leave I'm out and about a lot and time on my hands, so whenever I get the chance to give feedback (there's often something on the receipt asking for it) I ask for more/better low carb options! Recent offenders have been Costa, Vintage Inns and the National Trust.

Gammeldragz · 05/06/2018 21:36

Clare8 Lidl seems to have eschallion shallots every week.

Food today...
11am - bulletproof coffee
12:30pm - leftover last night's dinner
5:45pm - big bowl of salad with chicken, Parmesan, EVOO and mayo. DS1 (11) said it looked nicer than his dinner of battered fish and finished it off when I couldn't manage it all!

Plenty of water. 3 black coffees and no snacks. Could do with more FLGV though so not totally Halo

MelanieCheeks · 05/06/2018 21:38

Have turned leftover chicken and a FLGV into a soupy stew for lunches the rest of the week. Some chicken and stock retained yo make Rog drop soup for dinner tomorrow. What's the carb content of prawn crackers?

MelanieCheeks · 05/06/2018 21:39

Egg drop....

Yarboosucks · 05/06/2018 21:58

Stir-fried Thai prawns with green beans served on avocado- sheer bloody heaven! That and a bag of scratchlings is my intake for the day!

abbey44 · 05/06/2018 21:59

Destiny - even if you do ask for the diabetic option, it doesn't always work. I'm Type 1 and asked for the diabetic meal on my holiday flight a couple of months ago - main course was chicken breast (ok), broccoli (tiny piece, but ok), large helping of potatoes, parsnips and a stodgy Yorkshire pud. Pudding was cheese (ok) and crackers. Afternoon tea was an apple and a bag of crisps Hmm. I was bloody starving!

toomuchicecream · 05/06/2018 22:45

I hate drawing attention to what I'm eating, so I've never been able to make myself ask for a low carb food option. But now I've realised that cutting either sugar or wheat (or maybe both?) makes a huge difference to my neurological problem I've discovered I don't mind asking at all, because I'm not on a diet to lose weight you see - it's to help my mobility. I'm on a course next week where the joining instructions said a sandwich lunch will be provided, so in my acceptance I offered to take my own salad as I don't eat bread. I was then asked exactly what I can and can't eat, and assured they'll get something in for me. Easy!! And it has the added benefit that as I've made a fuss about what I can eat for lunch, I can't possibly "accidentally" hit the biscuits or pastries at break time, or the boiled sweets which will not doubt be on the table during the day!

MumOfAPickle · 06/06/2018 00:15

Evening all, I've been enjoying catching up with everyones pots, some very interesting discussions. I am another pound down this week so still very very slow for me but I don't care because I feel FANTASTIC! Really great, I'm sleeping well, exercising a lot (I joined a gym about a month ago) and most importantly I feel in control of my food. I'm really thinking a lot about my relationship with food, it's such an emotive thing, tied up with memory, sadness, reward, boredom....this way of eating makes me question stuff that I didn't feel in control of before.

I'm rambling sorry, it's late!
Anyway, food today:
B: eggs, bacon, mushrooms, spinach
L: chicken thighs and salad with garlic mayo and oil
D: steak with creamed spinach and broccoli
S: pork scratchings

I have made some of the keto bounty bars someone linked to in the last bc, am planning to freeze and have as an occasional treat - they look lush!

Destinysdaughter · 06/06/2018 01:09

MumOfAPickle ooh it was me who posted about the keto Bounty bars, they were v nice! ( mine did look like turds tho...) 😀

Destinysdaughter · 06/06/2018 01:13

ShagMeRiggins I only made suggestions about the buffet breakfast as dinner was ok. I suggested nuts, hard boiled eggs, full fat yoghurt, berries with cream or yoghurt. They did have berries but they were incredibly sweet! You could order a cooked breakfast but it was £25 so we didn't do it.

wherehavealltheflowersgone · 06/06/2018 07:06

Finally another 2lb off! Still another pound to go before I'm back to where i was pre-holiday 😬

Meals today:

B: Greek yog with vanilla essence and almond butter

L: last of the homemade frittata with salad

D: coconut crumbed fish fingers and FLGV

S: olives, cheese, scratchings

Rshard · 06/06/2018 07:34

Well done wherehave

TheGherkin · 06/06/2018 07:35

I miss fruit and I miss vegetables. I have found myself thinking of slimming world with fond memories.

Shock
Justmuddlingalong · 06/06/2018 07:39

Almost 10 lbs off since start of bootcamp. 👍 I'm tantalisingly close to my first target of 10 stone. Only 0.8lb until I get there! Will then set a new target of 9.5 stone. I'm feeling less sluggish, sleeping better and really enjoying my food. DP is 11lbs down too! Go us. Grin Hope everyone has a great day.

3stonedown · 06/06/2018 07:43

prettybird your brownies look great I'm going to make them for DDs bday so I can join in on the cake.

Was making asparagus frittata last night. Cracked 3 eggs into a bowl and then the last one was bloody rotten (Thanks aldi). Oh my god I've never smelt anything like it, had to ditch dinner as it made me feel so sick. Still not sure I can face food now Envy

GiantPandaAttacks · 06/06/2018 07:47

Finally caught up! Weight stayed the same this week annoyingly. Carby twatdom hit severly Monday, with another bloody hospital appointment, a broken car, exam marking in full swing, sore throat hitting etc etc. Line draw and back on. Menu for today:
B: Greek yogurt and cream
L: tuna, spinach and leftover yogurt
D: lamb, roasted broccoli and leeks.
S: cheese

Mimosa1 · 06/06/2018 08:36

71.7kg today - 2kg in 2 days, that's mad! I know it's water weight from starting BC again but I'm still pleased. I would dearly love to be in the 60s by the end of bootcamp.

@wherehavealltheflowersgone sorry if this is in the recipe thread but how do you make fish fingers with coconut crumble?

ilovecherries · 06/06/2018 09:32

What vegetables are you missing gerkhin? I’m eating 8-10 portions of veg a day.

Seafour · 06/06/2018 10:12

It's my 55th birthday!!!!! How the holy crap did I get this old!!! In my head I'm 30 something at the oldest.

I'm going to enjoy my day, DH bought me pork scratchings instead of chocolate.

Waswittyonce · 06/06/2018 10:14

Happy birthday @Seafour! Have a great day Thanks

Leelaseye · 06/06/2018 10:19

Happy birthday @Seafour 🎉 (sends over virtual Mr Porky adorned birthday cake )

@Justmuddlingalong also tantalisingly close to 10 here but finding the last 2lbs very stubborn
