Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where we're KOKOing!

BIWI · 04/06/2018 07:18

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you

Just a reminder to you all that week 4, like its evil twin week 3, can be a difficult week where weight loss is likely to be minimal or even non-existent.

Please don't despair if you don't see any movement on the scales - this does appear to be quite normal at this point in Bootcamp.

Keep going, keep following the rules - stay away from the chocolate and bread! - particularly make sure you get enough water and fat - and you should see things get going again very soon.

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

Really stupid question alert...
When you bookmark something on here and it saves it, where do you find it again? (I cannot believe I am asking this 😊😊)

Lovely garden prettybird

Titsywoo · 09/06/2018 17:17

Jings - I buy them pre done from Sainsbury's :)

AthelstaneTheUnready · 09/06/2018 18:03

BlackMozart, I refresh the page and it settles down where I last bookmarked it.

If you mean, 'how do I find the thread again', I use 'watch this thread', which is immediately under the last post.

TerfsUp · 09/06/2018 18:10

AthelstaneTheUnready and NorthernKnickers - my sympathies! I moved late last year due to the breakup of a long-term relationship and in a couple of months I will have to move again for work.

Moving is stressful so if you can do it without resorting to comfort eating, more power to you!

BIWI · 09/06/2018 19:33

So jet lag has kicked in. It's 3.30am here and I'm wide awake. I have to be up at 7.30 as I'm meeting a colleague at 8.30.

And I have a really busy day tomorrow, and won't finish work until 8pm.

The more I know I have to sleep, the more sleep is impossible. Angry

Well, darn. I bookmarked posts I found useful in the hopes of being able to read them again. Curses!

Laska5772 · 09/06/2018 20:35

I went to a family bbq today but rang ahead and asked if i could take my own meat to put on . really glad i did! as all either marinaded in bbq sauce or sausages burgers which I couldn't tell the carb count of. I took some lamb chops and had the green salad only. I got some olive oil t put on salad. Also just drank water . so all good.
But I only could have a smidge of salad (as it was a sharing bowl and everything else was unsuitable ) and then 4 chops. (and they were quite big ) . I've just had a FLGV with olive oil and some cheese.as I know didn't have enough veg/fat

but I now am really full and feel like I have eaten far too much meat to day.

I think i may have to fast tomorrow..

Divette · 09/06/2018 20:55

Oh no, sorry to hear you’re struggling BIWI-there’s nothing worse than not being able to sleep when you really need to...hope you nod off soon!

I’ve had a couple of NSVs this week-an inch off each of my waist, bust and hips measurements since I last meandered 10 days ago, and I saw family I hadn’t seen since mid March and they all did a ‘wow, look at you!’ when I saw them, asking how much i’ve lost! Was mega chuffed as I have a looooong way to go and thought my loss so far was only perceptible by me. Defo the motivation I need to KOKO!

Was also very virtuous today when we went out for lunch and DP succumbed to burger IN A BUN and CHIPS followed by a JAM AND CREAM SCONE!! How dare he?! Wink I had the burger and cheese with no bun (was from a farm shop so will have been high meat hopefully!) and salad with evoo. Go me!

Chattycatty · 09/06/2018 21:28

Not a good day hit my lowest ever weight I. 20 years this morning. Then had an ice cream this afternoon and no where near enough water self sabotage at its finest

prettybird · 09/06/2018 21:49

Made lovely burgers tonight, using up some pork mince that ds had used c.half of to make himself a chilli (he's starting to practice cooking for himself in preparation for going off to Uni in September).

So it was 5-600g of pork mince, an egg, a generous gloop of olive oil, a finely chopped shallot, two mashed cloves of garlic, a teaspoon each (ordinary one, so probably less than an "official" measure) of cumin and coriander, 1.5 teaspoons salt - and then what made them special, a generous squoosh of Worcestershire sauce. Mix altogether with your hands. They were still a bit wet so I added some flaxseed (as a substitute for breadcrumbed).

Left them in the fridge for c20 minutes (all the time I had) and then fried them. Didn't use the griddle pan as I thought they might be a bit delicate, but they seemed to firm up ok as they work cooking. Still handled them carefully though.

Dh and ds loved them - as did I Smile

TerfsUp · 09/06/2018 21:59

Sorry to hear of the insomnia, BIWI. I am just ending a run of it so I sympathise.

Good for you, Laska. I will probably have to do this when I go to a family barbecue. The hostess is a fabulous cook but her food is not low-carb friendly. Luckily, she is a close friend and if I explain the situation to her I know she will understand.

Divette, I would give someone else's right arm for a cheeseburger in a bun and chips.

Chattycatty, a one-off is not the end of the world. Have more water. Grin

prettybird - I am going to try that recipe as a filling for lettuce wraps.

Mimosa1 · 09/06/2018 22:06

@Chattycatty good on you for recognising what's happened and you can pull it back. I'm the worst at "rewarding" myself with food when I've lost weight which I know is counterproductive but somehow feel I deserve so self sabotage there too. Don't worry, get back on the wagon and congratulations on seeing that weight regardless.

@BIWI this might sound silly but when I can't sleep, I've been know to play scattegories with myself. I have to find a word starting with each letter of the alphabet in categories like "things you can find in the supermarket", "animals", things you can find on the ocean, etc. Obviously this is done in my head with eyes closed and i find it does workWink

I went to a kids bday party today and successfully avoided all the sugary party food, but didn't worry too much about the small pieces of watermelon in the haloumi, avocado and pine nut salad that was ok offer. I watched the Truth About Carbs later and enjoyed it, although I confess I'm still utterly confused by long carbs/starch resistant fibers and freezing and rehearing your carby food. Sounds like a lot of effort! I loved the bit at the end when they gave the diabetic patients their results though.

Mimosa1 · 09/06/2018 22:09

*on offer!

NorthernKnickers · 09/06/2018 22:20

I've asked before, so apologies if anyone answered (I have looked but can't spot one).

What is FLGV? I've interpreted it myself (from reading between the lines 😊) as 'a Fuck Load of Good Veg' 🤷‍♀️ Am I even close? 😃

blackteaplease · 09/06/2018 22:44

Spot on northern, that is indeed what it means

prettybird · 09/06/2018 22:58

I've always thought of it as Fuck Load of Green Veg but they don't have to be green Wink

NorthernKnickers · 09/06/2018 23:18

😂😂 really? That's so funny! I was honestly expecting a really technical phrase 😊😳😂

BlackMozart · 09/06/2018 23:44

terfsup like you I was hoping bookmark meant I would have a saved bunch of bookmarks somewhere that I could refer back to. All those recipes I ‘bookmarked’ and i’ve No idea where they are. Hey ho.

Thing101 · 09/06/2018 23:44

Hello! Having read everyone's exciting meals, and being rather s one trick pony, I went on the recipe threads and did the no grill beef tikka massala (I think that was the full name!) It smells amazing and looked the part going into the slow cooker, but I've just turned it off (3h on high as instructed) and the sauce has kind of split. Is that what happens? Is it ok to eat? You will struggle to believe it but I am an unaccomplished cook, but keen to try new recipes!!
Anyone know what might have happened?!

prettybird · 10/06/2018 00:08

You can only ever have one bookmark on a thread Sad. Sometimes I bookmark because I want to read a link properly - and then have to make sure to keep up-to-date with the thread as otherwise I'd lose my place as I don't want to change the bookmark Confused

I usually end up deciding after a day or so that if I haven't gone round to reading it, it can't have been that important and I can then bookmark the thread again as normal.

Twoo · 10/06/2018 06:20

Athel’ & Northern, virtual hugs and Flowers . I hope all go well for you in your moves and that you settle quickly!

BIWI I hope you got back to sleep ok ... insomnia sucks.

I’ve loved reading about everyone’s progress. Keep on kokoing everyone!

3stonedown · 10/06/2018 07:31

Speaking of bookmarks does anyone else have a problem with the app not going to the bookmark. It's so annoying. For example I bookmarked last night and it took me to Friday morning!

lurknolinger · 10/06/2018 07:45

Regarding saving recipes, I take a screen shot of the post on my phone, and then file it in an 'album' in my photos which I've labelled Bootcamp recipes. That's the easiest way I've found of having them all in one place to refer to easily.

Rshard · 10/06/2018 08:45

Jet lag is a killer BIWI, hope you have a good Sunday.

Well done on navigating those social occasions divette and laska and mimosa

I’ve saved the burger recipe too, thanks prettybird

TerfsUp · 10/06/2018 08:48

lurnnolinger - that is what I should do. Good idea.
