Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where we're KOKOing!

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you

Just a reminder to you all that week 4, like its evil twin week 3, can be a difficult week where weight loss is likely to be minimal or even non-existent.

Please don't despair if you don't see any movement on the scales - this does appear to be quite normal at this point in Bootcamp.

Keep going, keep following the rules - stay away from the chocolate and bread! - particularly make sure you get enough water and fat - and you should see things get going again very soon.

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

It was! Basil oil to dress (plus balsamic for the other half's plate) and let it sit a bit so it's not chilly.

oldbirdy · 09/06/2018 11:06

I made a lovely keto toast this morning. It uses ground almonds and chia or flax so it'll be an occasional thing as I usually do full strict bc but it was so delicious and so simple.

1/4 cup ground almonds
Dessert spoon chia or flax seeds
1 egg
1/4 tsp baking powder
Melted tbsp butter

Stir it together in a small Tupperware. Microwave for 90 secs. Turn out and half it to make two "slices". Toast or fry the slices.

I had it with butter and marmite and it tasted light, fluffy, crispy and not eggy - like a seed bread. Yum!

MrsBertBibby · 09/06/2018 11:35

Is there a difference between ground almonds and almond flour?

That sounds good, birdy!

oldbirdy · 09/06/2018 11:39

Bert
I'm not sure. The American recipe said almond flour, I used ground almonds and it worked ok.

BIWI · 09/06/2018 12:01

I think they're both the same, but I'm never really sure!

'Flour' to me always implies something finer than 'ground'

They're the same, I bought the almond flour first €7.99 for 300gShock thinking it'd be finer. I then bought Tesco ground almond €1.99 for 200g and couldn't see any difference and the recipe tasted the same.

Lonesurvivor · 09/06/2018 12:14

That sounds lovely birdy, you could fry it in an egg for French toast too.

Here's my bread recipe it's really nice keeps well, makes about 12 slices and lasts me 5/6 days when I usually throw out the last bit.

Beat 3 eggs with 25g milled linseed.
Then I added 150g/200g almond flour 1tsp each of baking and bread soda and sweetner. I/2 table spoon Apple cider vinegar and mix like a bread.
Heat loaf tin in oven. When you take it out of oven melt butter on it drop mix onto it and shape it, cut a few lines across top and pop in oven.
I leave it on about 35/40 min at 200.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 09/06/2018 12:48

I need some help! Suggestions, rather.

I'm a bit stressed at present - starting new job, moving house, and leaving friends for a new city in the next few weeks.

So I'm craving some comfort something, but don't know what. Amazingly - wonderfully - thanks be - I'm not craving a drink. Which is a huge deal for me, and a development I am very grateful for. Nor do I crave sweet things, or junk. But I want SOMETHING.

Actually, having troubled to think about it for long enough to type it out, it's a bit doh! isn't it. I'm not hungry or thirsty, so eating or drinking won't help. I probably just want a hug and to not be stressed for a while. I think I'll go and find some more things to donate to charity/recycle/throw away, as that's nice and constructive and will make me feel more in control.

Well. Thank God you lot are all here to help me reason with myself even though I didn't let you get a word in edgeways of your part of the conversation Thank you! Flowers

MrsBertBibby · 09/06/2018 13:04

Can you take 20 minutes to enjoy some fresh air, sunshine and hopefully some green space? A turn in the park?

Trees are great forsoothing your soul.

NorthernKnickers · 09/06/2018 13:18

@AthelstaneTheUnready I'm the same! 6 weeks until I move house (all by myself...this is really stressing me out!) and start a new job in a city I know nothing about and know nobody 😢. I started packing boxes during half term week (teacher) as I've only got two days to do everything at the end of term. That's including emptying all my stuff out of my classroom and leaving it in 'a fit state' for the new teacher. I'm so very stressed. And I'm usually a 'stress eater'...very jealous of those who lose their appetite in times like these! However, whilst I'm craving something, fortunately this time it isn't food. I think I just need a hug and some strong muscle to help me pack!

💐 🤗 for you xx

threedots · 09/06/2018 13:32

This thread is so good for motivation and inspiration!

I calculated 27g carbs yesterday. It was easy! I stupidly got on the scales today though and have put on a lb since last week 🙄

I will stick to Monday weigh ins from now on!

This morning I had half an omelette with a slice of bacon. Yum

AthelstaneTheUnready · 09/06/2018 13:34

And a big to you too, Northern. I'm actually a bit aghast at how much crap I've put in drawers and cupboards and forgotten about.

Bert, I'm fortunate enough to live in the middle of nowhere at the minute (not for much longer, as moving to outskirts of Glasgow), so nothing but garden and fields and woods outside my door. God I'll miss it. If only the garden didn't need so much doing, after doing my back in, but I can't relax out there for spotting jobs!

Garn, just a stresshead after all. Time to throw something else out, that'll make me feel better Grin

BlackMozart · 09/06/2018 13:37

Sending virtual hugs to Athel and Northernknickers* Any transition, even the one we choose rather than those forced upon us, can be a challenge. Really well done for not falling back on old habits.
I’m with mrsbertbibby on getting out for a walk in nature and particularly time spent amongst trees and near running water. There;s something very elemental about being in the natural world and it always encourages me to be with the present rather than the past or future.

Other than that I’d say curling up with a good book or treat magazine, listening to your favourite music or watching a film. In other words be kind to yourselves.

BlackMozart · 09/06/2018 13:41

Apologies for poor punctuation.

Doing a 16:8 day today and I’ve just had a lovely lunch of cold chicken breast, lettuce, half avocado, 1 spring onion, few slices of cucumber topped with two slices fried streaky bacon and the fried chicken skin off the breast. With a bit of the hot bacon fat poured over as ‘dressing’ and a dollop of Stokes garlic mayo. Heaven.

blackteaplease · 09/06/2018 13:57

Hugs to Northern and Athelstane moving house and job at the same time is very stressful. Well done for staying on plan. (I was less successful when I moved over easter).
I'm off to a bbq later, no idea what I will eat but it will be lchf even if it's literally a burger with nowt else. Hmm, I might just go and pack some emergency pork scratchings just in case!

prettybird · 09/06/2018 14:32

Athelstane - I'm on the Southside of Glasgow (Pollokshields) and I was brought up in Bearsden/Milngavie (and my dad still lives close to there), if you want to see a friendly face/meet up for coffee no cake

We have a lovely big green garden too! Smile (Picture taken mid May).

Ilovecherries can vouch for me GrinI met her in Sarti's (a great Italian Glasgow institution) for coffee.

Good luck with your move.

MrsBertBibby · 09/06/2018 14:38

Nice garden!

Waswittyonce · 09/06/2018 15:08

@MrsBertBibby your insalata looks lovely and I am very envious of your plate too. I have a fondness for blue and white china Smile

Waswittyonce · 09/06/2018 15:10

Good luck with your moves, new jobs @NorthernKnickers and @AthelstaneTheUnready. Your garden looks lovely @prettybird

AthelstaneTheUnready · 09/06/2018 15:14

ooooh, another local bootcamper! Thank you so much, pretty, that's really kind of you. Beautiful garden btw - all green and lush and rounded as a garden should be.

I'm moving to Uddingston at the end of this month, so once I've settled down a bit stopped hyperventilating that would be lovely. I know nothing about the city, so will be googling to see where the cultural scene is up there - the RNSO is based in Glasgow, isn't it? And places to potter. I love a good potter.

Back to BC... food for today is:

B: creamy coffee
L: spinach, watercress, avocado, mozarella, baby plum tomato, mayonnaise salad
D: brisket with leeks and broccoli done in butter

NorthernKnickers · 09/06/2018 15:53

Anyone in Lincoln??? I'm going to be friendless from July 😢😢

MrsBertBibby · 09/06/2018 15:54

I have a friend in Glasgow, to judge by her Facebook posts, life there is a constant round of cultural delights.

NorthernKnickers · 09/06/2018 15:54

Although looking at that garden @prettybird I might change my move and head further north to Glasgow!! So pretty xx

ilovecherries · 09/06/2018 16:03

Yep, prettybird and I met for coffee. She’s a woman, and nice, and normal :). So am I :). She also a lipstick enabler, so beware! I also live near Glasgow normally, but me and DH are living in England for a couple of years as he’s working doing consultancy work with a big organisation down there. I’m freelance, so I work anywhere, anyway. We are actually home in Glasgow this weekend to cut the grass, clean the oven (student DCs living in family home while we are away), have dental check ups, get the dog,s booster jags etc etc. Tonight having a decent curry - can’t find a source of these in England at all. :)

Rshard · 09/06/2018 17:09

Exciting times northern and athle

Your garden looks lovely prettybird,

I’m in the East Midlands northern but not particularly close to Lincoln I’m afraid!
