Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where we're KOKOing!

BIWI · 04/06/2018 07:18

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you

Just a reminder to you all that week 4, like its evil twin week 3, can be a difficult week where weight loss is likely to be minimal or even non-existent.

Please don't despair if you don't see any movement on the scales - this does appear to be quite normal at this point in Bootcamp.

Keep going, keep following the rules - stay away from the chocolate and bread! - particularly make sure you get enough water and fat - and you should see things get going again very soon.

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

Ooh little NSV this morning. I WAS wearing the loosest hole in my belt before Christmas. Down to 3rd one recently, but today im in the 5th one. Must have lost about 5 inches off my stomach since Christmas which makes me v happy Smile

StuntNun · 07/06/2018 10:02

If anyone's looking for the High5 Zero electrolyte tablets, they had loads in my local Lidl today for £7.99.

BIWI · 07/06/2018 10:10

@RuffleBelly

Yesterday I couldn’t find anything to eat for lunch in Waitrose for £5 or less. All the soups seemed too high carb (lots of sneaky potatoes), all the sandwiches were obviously out, all the salads had grains or more sneaky potatoes hiding away. In the end I didn’t bother so good yesterday

What about:

sliced meats - ham, beef, corned beef, pastrami, chicken etc? Loads of choice there!

cheese - sometimes they do small/individual portions, if not just buy a block, or a tub of cottage cheese (full fat of course!)

tub of olives

I can't believe you couldn't find anything in a supermarket that was low carb and under £5.

I'm sorry that you're suffering - the leg cramps suggest that you need to sort your electrolytes out.

But it seems to me that you're suffering psychologically as well, and it really doesn't seem that you're totally committed to this WOE. Have you read any of the resources on the spreadsheet? or watched any of the videos linked there? It might help you if you could appreciate the wider health benefits of low carbing, as well as having a sound understanding of the science behind it.

I really, really want you to do well! But you do have to commit to it properly rather than just suffering your way through it.

Please could someone add 189.5 to the spreadsheet for me for this week please? Can't seem to get to a device that it works with at the moment. Thanks very much :-)

antimatter · 07/06/2018 11:04

@TimeIhadaNameChange have you got polish shop anywhere near you?
I bought this one:

chpn.pl/produkty-ekologiczne/ekologiczna-kapusta-kiszona/

it's with live bacteria

If you get sourkout in jars it will be pasteurized, still good source of resistant starch but bacteria would have been killed to stop fermentation.

I forgot to mention to refrigerate that mix for few hours or overnight. I love it. I am Polish and that is my comfort food.
You can use linseed oil, peppery olive oil is to strong IMHO but any cold pressed whit less flavour would be good
Make sure you squeeze as much juice as possible or it may be too sharp and sour

Rshard · 07/06/2018 11:08

Done upyakilt

TerfsUp · 07/06/2018 11:34

That's fab, RShard!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 07/06/2018 11:45

@antimatter - probably not within 100 miles, if that! (I live on Skye, we don't have many shops here!).

I've found Kuchnia Polska Sauerkraut on Tesco's website which seems to be in a pouch similar to the one you linked to. I'm assuming that would be my best option...?

If I like it I might have a go at making it myself (am I mad???). Does this sound like an authentic recipe to you?

clare8allthepies · 07/06/2018 11:45

Anyone had their hormones going a bit crazy? I’ve got awful premenstrual symptoms today, sore boobs, very irritable and tearful and a monster sugar craving. Periods not due for 7/8 days though.

Just managed to squash the cravings with 2 huge cheeseburgers (with lettuce instead of a bun) which was a bit excessive but better than cake!

3stonedown · 07/06/2018 12:05

Prettybird you look fab! I've got a great before and after when we were on holiday but not sure I have the courage to post my half naked self on the internet yet Blush

I'll catch up on the truth about carbs later, sounds like it's a good one!

This mornings weigh in means I have 1lb to lose and then I've lost 1st on bootcamp

DianaT1969 · 07/06/2018 12:50

@shagmeriggins
It's surprisingly good for adominals. If used regularly I end up with an (undeserved) six pack. I do abs standing, holding in belly whilst arms are reaching up and down, like an abs floor exercise. You can also sit on it, hands behind to support your back and bring legs in and out in a crunch. That's a killer for me. The muscles I see the most improvement quickly are calves (standing calf raises), triceps (seated dips) and front of thigh (squats).
Glutes and back of thigh - not much impact and shoulders take a while too.

NorthernKnickers · 07/06/2018 13:54

@prettybird Wow! What a transformation! You look fabulous 💐

Mandate · 07/06/2018 14:21

Hello! I am hoping I can join the thread even though you are on week 4? I have been eating in a mainly low carb way for a few years now, lost 12 kilos a few years back and then stabilised at around 10kgs down (which still left me 12.5kg away from a healthy BMI but was at least a loss of 10% of bodyweight...). I maintained that for around two years but in the last six months I have been letting more and more carbs creep in and have seen my weight go back up to just over 88kg so I have been seriously LCHF since the start of May and have lost just under 5kg. Hoping to get through my previous steady weight of 84-85kg and maybe even get down to a healthy BMI..... but taking one day at a time. I have been lurking on the threads, and also reading back through older bootcamps, and the tips / idea / support / big stick have been great to read about so I am now diving in and saying hello. Hoping to contribute to the threads and also get support - I don't really talk to anyone IRL about my eating pattern (apart from DH who is supportive but not really interested in the details) as I don't want to get into a discussion about whether it is actually healthy or how much I have lost / not lost on a given day, so it will be good to be able to chat on here!

antimatter · 07/06/2018 16:52

@TimeIhadaNameChange

I never tried that cabbage from Kuchnia Polska

Ocado has some but is soooo expensive!
ocado kraut

try to make your own, it will be fine providing you have somewhere to store it in a cool place to slow down fermentation

TimeIhadaNameChange · 07/06/2018 16:56

Thanks, antimatter! I think I'll try the Kuchnia Polska version (as I can get it, can't get Ocado here either!) and, if I like it, I'll nick some cabbage from the rabbits and try making it. May have to wait for the weather to cool slightly and then I can keep it in a shed.

Laska5772 · 07/06/2018 17:11

I make sauerkraut its easy and yummy especially if you get one of these , lots of recipes online.
was hungry today and have eaten more than usual

B buttery eggs (3) and watercress
L greek yog 10% mixed with creme fraiche
D (which I am eating already) Turkey mince sauteed with mushrooms garlic and courgette with a little pesto, chilli and more watercress and spinach.

Leelaseye · 07/06/2018 18:07

@prettybird wow to those photos - incredible transformation

@Rshard congrats on reaching the 9's. I was 10.75 this morning and can almost smell them!

I didn't see the prog on BBC1 last night but did have a look on Twitter and got pissed off with the number of people claiming that low carbing is dangerous, doesn't work and that calorie deficit is the ONLY way to loose weight

Leelaseye · 07/06/2018 18:09

Waves to @Mandate

Coming on here every day has made a massive difference in my ability to stick to plan

Rshard · 07/06/2018 18:17

Thanks terfs and leela.

Welcome mandate, you’ll always find lots of support and inspiration here.

prettybird · 07/06/2018 18:20

It goes to show the issue with perception: I don't see much difference, especially on my arms Confused

But I do know I am fitting into clothes that I couldn't fit into last summer Smile

Those white Size 18 Wallis trousers are now in a drawer waiting to go to the charity shop. Only worn twice - second time with a belt trying to hoik them up! Grin

Waswittyonce · 07/06/2018 18:20

Hi @Mandate! Welcome, it's fab here Grin

RuffleBelly · 07/06/2018 18:26

@BIWI they did of course have sliced meats, pots of olives etc but most of these were £2.99 each (or in the region of) and I had no way to store food so yesI could eat a whole pack of ham by itself but that’s not really an appealing lunch; if I’d added salad or dressing I’d have ended up with stuff I couldn’t store or transport - plus it would have been over £5. I literally had 15 minutes to run and grab something and access to a microwave but nothing else to prepare it.

I appreciate I need to be better prepared but I have a three hour round trip commute, a five and two year old to sort out before I leave the house at 6.30am and I don’t normally get home until 8.30pm. It was a day of back to back meetings so I was rushing all over the place.

I’ve not deviated this week (from proper Bootcamp) and I have some of the Zero electrolytes now so hopefully that will help the cramp (plus they are really nice!). I just haven’t really enjoyed the food and found it not very convenient this week.

LeavingTheSandBehind · 07/06/2018 18:55

I've not had a great day food wise - the first time in nearly 4 weeks that I have come off plan. I had a big exam this morning that didn't go according my well-thought out plan and I am feeling quite flat after it. I still managed to drink plenty of water today as every time I got stuck on a question I had a big swig of water...over 3 hours!

Tomorrow is another day!

Ragwort · 07/06/2018 19:09

I'm not on the spreadsheet but have been following all the advice and have lost one stone in the four weeks of Boot Camp and am delighted, thanks to everyone for all the helpful comments and recipes - esp BIWI. Smile

UpYaKilt · 07/06/2018 19:27

Thank you Rshard
