Morning all.

So we finally reach the last week.

I feel that this Bootcamp has been a pretty successful one overall, with lots of SVs and NSVs.

Next Monday will be our final weigh-in, so there's one more week to lose some of that pesky fat.

I hope it's a good week for you all

@BlackMozart - sorry you're having a hard time. But I have to say, I'd junk that book! Nobody can stick to one way of eating all the time. It's just not possible.

BlackMozart · 17/03/2018 18:38

Quite.
Well she talks about LCH(healthy) F and Paleo in the same book which is a bit confusing. Paleo is no alcohol. She says the same as we do on here about alcohol. That you can have it in moderation but it will stall you so your choice etc. Which I know is right. I stopped drinking for most of Jan and all of Feb but no weight loss at all so I know I am doing other things wrong. I know what they are, but that’s the battle I’m in with myself. What a bloody waste of time.

BlackMozart · 17/03/2018 18:41

BIWI I think you are right. Really all I need is your spreadsheet but I have developed an addiction to book buying. I know when I am down in the dumps because that’s what I do - buy cookery books and it doesn’t help ☹️
I will shut up in a minute 😊

ilovecherries · 17/03/2018 18:43

Nobody can stick to one way of eating all the time. It's just not possible..

But you see, that's what's freaking me out right now. I need it to BE possible for me. You know those trampoline things you see for kids sometimes, where they are suspended in a harness? They go down at speed, hit the bottom and bounce back up, even higher than they were before? That's what I feel like just now. That my feet are just about to touch the bottom, but I won't be able to just get off, my own momentum will suddenly shoot me back up to where I started, or higher. For the first time in 9 months, I'm getting afraid, because having experienced 'normal' life, I cannot go back up there again.

Bluntness100 · 17/03/2018 18:51

I don't think you should worry cherries, because you have more control when eat differently.

Look at last week. I had to attend three social events.

First night I drank half a glass of wine, second night two glasses, third night four or five glasses, ate a chocolate profiterole thing and a baclava. Came home on thurs. After the right hotel breakfast I then didn't eat all day, had some wine with husband and chilli, baked potato and chocolate.

Friday I had no issue going back on it and today I've no cravings, booze free and been to the gym. It's all good. Three months ago I'd be on the wine right now, and I'd be eating myself a carb fest. Now I don't have that desire. I can chose to come off plan and then go back on. I now have that control. You will too.

Biwi is right. You can't eat one way for ever. But predominantly eating that way, if you know it's a choice not to and you will go back to your normal straight after it's fine. I deliberately made a choice to eat off plan. I could have chosen not to, but I didn't because I knew I would get back on the horse.

YoLoHogwomanay · 17/03/2018 20:05

thanks BIWI and Athel (I realise I'm replying 12 hours later!). BIWI Glad you've found the stick again. Sorry to hear you are having a difficult time. Me too right now. And chocolate is still my medicine better than it being wine . at least it's relatively low carb good stuff and not cadbury rubbish. Athel I can deal with moments of stress with distractions but it's the bigger life things that I have no control over that are worrying me and can't see my way out of. It's all work, family, money stuff. Just life really but I much prefer it when things are going well!! I need to stop blethering and feeling sorry for myself.

cherries I plan to eat this way for the rest of my life. will add in the occasional carb when I'm slim enough but I'll never be this fat again. Because I choose not to be. You will too. Seriously, there is no point stressing about things you CAN control. Smile

StuntNun · 17/03/2018 20:08

Cherries I think you're getting ahead of yourself. Maintenance is possible and you can do it. Just keep eating this way. There's no need to make any changes if it's working for you.

Rshard · 18/03/2018 07:33

I think the big change that I’ve personally got from this woe is that I’ve realised I have got self control and will power. I have lost weight and put it on again and that’s because I’ve stopped following WW or whatever it was when I got to goal. I simply see this as a woe not a diet and that’s the difference. For me anyway.

Like someone else said up thread, I know I can have a piece of toast and not fall head first into a carb fest and I can see how that’s what maintaining will be for me. The occasional carb and then back to this woe.

MelanieCheeks · 18/03/2018 08:33

I managed to say no to the apple tart at a St Patrick's do last night! But then won a box of shortbread for my hat.....

Today's run has been cancelled due to snow and ice, so I've just eaten the cheesy egg muffin thing I made (very tasty, I added in some chilli olives and spring onions - the dog was most interested in it.)

BerylStreep · 18/03/2018 08:44

Morning all.

Been away from the thread for a couple of days as we are away with friends (-7 wind chill on the beach!)

BIWI sorry things are tough at the moment 💐

BIWI · 18/03/2018 08:47

@ilovecherries

Starting to be haunted by stories of people who lose a lot of weight then put it all back on in a year.

But you know why that happened! It's people have the mentality that once they've lost the weight, they can go back to 'normal'. But that 'normal' was what led them to gain weight in the first place.

Whatever diet you choose to follow, it's the same story. You have to change the way you eat to maintain the weight loss.

And this is why - IMVHO - low carbing is far superior to a low calorie diet - because it's so much easier to maintain. I look at my SIL who is convinced that Weight Watchers is the only way to diet - her house is a fat-free zone yet her weight goes up and down quite alarmingly, because she simply can't sustain the diet at a low enough calorie level to keep her weight under control.

Yes, there are foods we can't eat on a low carb diet. But there are foods you can't eat on any diet. And alcohol is verboten regardless of what you're doing!

But I don't there is any other way of losing weight that means you are rarely hungry, can eat really satisfying food, you don't have to be obsessed with calories and can eat out relatively easily.

But all of this aside, of course you can do it. Because you are in control.

Hmm. A few key words missing in that post - definitely need some more coffee Grin

TheWayOfTheWorld · 18/03/2018 08:47

I am with others on the self control thing and greater mindfulness generally. Couple of recent examples:

  • was at a client lunch week. Had steak and spinach, all good. Truffles came round with the coffees - I decided to take a couple back to office (one for me, one for my secretary). Took one bite of mine, decided it wasn't that nice so put the rest in the bin. Lesson for me here was that if I am going to deviate, it has to be worth it
  • have made DC pancakes for breakfast (there are 3 spare ones sitting in front of me front now). Was going to make myself some almond flour ones - then I ran the macros through MFP and decided that they weren't going to be worth it and I would rather save the cals for a low-carb brownie pud later. So I'm having boiled eggs instead Smile

For me, it is not only the ability to say no, it is the fact that I am not feeling horribly deprived and missing out.

BIWI · 18/03/2018 08:49

Thanks for all the good wishes and flowers. Much appreciated.

Sorry for all those struggling with challenging life times.
We went out for a Korean meal last night and it was the first time I have been off plan since I joined bootcamp in week 3ish.
However, I didn’t go Wild. I have had a small carby starter and then half a portion of rice and then 1 cocktail and 1 glass of prosecco. No pudding etc.
More importantly I’ve not woken up thinking I need to dive into carby twatdom!
This is what maintenance Will look like for me, I’m sure.
I’m also gradually building in exercise so that will help maintain too.

YoLoHogwomanay · 18/03/2018 10:03

Morning everyone. Staying in today because of the snow. Hoping not to be kitchen raiding all day.

Have a great Sunday, all!

Bluntness100 · 18/03/2018 10:09

Morning all. Snowy Sunday here too. Just waiting for washing machine to finish and off to gym. Rock and roll lifestyle.

I agree on thr comments that's what maintenance looks like.. it's so much easier in this woe to have something you fancy off plan and get back on it. Because effectively the cravings have gone. You're no longer in that cycle.

I'm not sure but I also suspect it kick starts weight loss again.🤔

TheWayOfTheWorld · 18/03/2018 19:34

Well my MIL is a complete gem. She's been doing me cauli rice etc when we go over for lunch, did celeriac dauphinoise last week and today it was low carb lasagne (courgette slices rather than pasta and a flourless cheese sauce) and celeariac mash! Star

Good luck for tomorrow everyone - I won't hit goal of sub 140lb but I am not far away and shall KOKO.

ShagMeRiggins · 18/03/2018 19:43

I love good MiL stories, WayOftheWorld— mine is also a gem, really amazing, and it’s very caring of her to cook special recipes for you. I’m willing to bet the others enjoyed those foods as well.

Rshard · 18/03/2018 20:00

She does indeed sound like a gem thewayof.

Looking forward to reading about the final sv’s and nsv’s of this boot camp. I’m hoping to hit 139 and see a 9 on the display. Good luck!

Destinysdaughter · 19/03/2018 06:46
