Morning all.

So we finally reach the last week.

I feel that this Bootcamp has been a pretty successful one overall, with lots of SVs and NSVs.

Next Monday will be our final weigh-in, so there's one more week to lose some of that pesky fat.

I hope it's a good week for you all

Hi, YoLo, I'm behaving, so will grab that stick.

Stop it! Give it away, bin it, don't buy any more. If it's the thing you can't stop, then don't start!

More helpfully... if you're really stressed, and you've already made the link between stress=chocolate, then what about a PP's mantra "if hunger is not the problem, then food is not the answer", and very very deliberately go and do something much more soothing* for 5 minutes.

  • different for everyone - I have a couple of tedious-sounding ones, but they work: lying down and really concentrating on deep breathing for 60 seconds; massaging my temples for 60 seconds whilst trying not to think of anything other than my temples; or jumping up the stairs both feet at a time (much harder than I always think).

Mostly it's enough to distract me, and then the moment's gone, and so has a tiny amount of the stress that caused it.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/03/2018 06:54

Hi, Mel - 10k sounds impressive! There was a discussion earlier on this thread (I think) about not needing the traditional carb-loading mindset for exercise. Can't quite recall, but I think it ended up just to eat normally (and not just before the start), but electrolytes before (and possibly after) the run.

If, of course, you swell up and then implode as a result of this advice, I cannot be held responsible Grin.

BIWI · 17/03/2018 07:30

I'm here, and I haven't really gone to the dark side at all. Just a lot on my plate at the moment Sad

DH contract ended unexpectedly, things going badly for me at work (as well as being very busy), and MIL is on her way out. DH is also 60 next week and finding that hard to deal with, I think, so Chez BIWI isn't an especially happy house right now.

But. Food/carbs all OK. I'm not an emotional eater, thankfully. It's the alcohol that is my usual downfall, but it's all good on that front too.

So I'll wave my big stick at you, @YoLoHogwomanay albeit in a bit of a half-hearted way right now.

@MelanieCheeks - if you're fat-adapted (i.e. if you've been low carbing for a while now) then you shouldn't need to eat anything before the race. Afterwards, assuming you're at home, then I'd have something high protein like some eggs, or some full fat natural yoghurt with some nuts/seeds.

Menu plan for the weekend:

B bacon eggs mushrooms
L meatballs green beans and turnip mash
D sardine and kale courgetti
S pork scratchings, kale crisps and low carb baileys!

B spoon of peanut butter pre run
L cheese egg loaf post run
D hot and sour soup, and Parmesan scallops ( husband friendly dish - he will have returned from his weekend at twickenham)
S blue cheese crispies, mackerel pate

ShagMeRiggins · 17/03/2018 10:38

jumping up the stairs both feet at a time Shock Ha ha ha, feck off with that, Athel!

Ah, BIWI Flowers

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 17/03/2018 11:56

Sorry you're having a rough time at the moment, BIWI. Hope things pick up for you soon ThanksWine

My period started today and that coincided with another weight drop (albeit slight) so I'm back under 12st (by 1lb) and hoping to keep it that way and only go down.
Seems that I am unable to lose anything in the week run up to the period these days - never used to be that way but am older now, so maybe.
I so nearly fell off the wagon last night and the night before (possibly also hormonal) but held fast and am so pleased I did.

Did get a bit stuck into a bottle of red wine today though - but am now drinking cocoa shell tea to make up for it.

I don't think I'm eating enough protein either, so need to remedy that.

Was VERY interested to read that article about low carbing and the fatty liver situation - VERY interesting indeed. Thanks for posting that!

ShagMeRiggins · 17/03/2018 12:43

MumOfAPickle your quiz story made my day. I bloody love quizzes and all the subterfuge and shenanigans surrounding them. It’s all the world’s drama in a tidy little setting.

Ps—as someone who has created & presented six years’ worth of quizzes for our school, with husband my loyal and trusted scorekeeper, we are shocked and appalled by the 2.5 point error, and subsequent poor sportsmanship by the losing team member. Tsk tsk.

MumOfAPickle · 17/03/2018 13:14

Thank you shag your support means a lot at this difficult time 😁
Seriously though I know it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things but in my experience people who like a quiz REALLY like a quiz and it is important to get it right.
I am over it on the surface but will spend the next year gently festering the resentment all ready for a re-match. Next year's is going to be a must win on all sides I think!

In food related news, yesterday's menu was:
B: none
L: cheese and mushroom omelette with salad
D: delicious HM lamb curry made by my DH with green beans
S: some dark chocolate and yogurt with raspberries. Also 2 glasses of rose. Really meant to only have one but it was lovely so the second slipped down too 😳

ilovecherries · 17/03/2018 14:04

I'm still just trucking on. Staying on track. Eating FTGV. Drinking my water. Etc etc. I don't even do low carb treats because I'm trying not to see food as treats and I'm also worried that if I eat something that looks like a cake or a pudding it will be a gateway. Nearly 5 stone off. First four big goals are in the can. Next one (be a healthy BMI) is 1.5 lbs away. Final (for the moment!) goal is to be in the 140s and is12 lbs away. Starting to be haunted by stories of people who lose a lot of weight then put it all back on in a year.

ShagMeRiggins · 17/03/2018 14:39

You’re a true quizzer, Pickle

cherries just an observation—have seen you over the course of three Bootcamps and find it interesting that you’re only now—with less than a stone to go for your FINAL WEIGHT—starting to regularly verbalise fears about gaining it back.

Obviously it’s you who controls your destiny. Obviously these fears aren’t founded in the reality of your successful journey changing your life (hint: it’s all in your head).

May I ask exactly what is going to change for you twelve pounds from now? Do you have gluttonous carbfests planned that you haven’t told us about? Have you made some insane pact to stop taking care of yourself?

No? Good. All will be fine, then.

Ps—it’s absolutely normal to feel this way and I know it isn’t easy Flowers

prettybird · 17/03/2018 14:40

You can do it ilovecherries Smile

The very fact that we call Boot Camp a WoE rather than a diet means that there is a different mindset. And when you've got to where you want to be, there is the ongoing Maintenance thread for support. Flowers

Another sort of NSV - well, technically, a SV - for me: I tried putting my scales where I used to weigh myself because that spot gave the "best" weight just out of curiosity - and instead of showing the real 11 stone 13lb, they claimed that I was 10 stone 11lb Shock It was strangely reassuring, as it means that I am not that far above where I got to a few years ago before I succumbed again to emotional/comfort/depressed eating . Smile

Bluntness100 · 17/03/2018 14:54

Destiny, thanks for the low carb baileys recipe, shall try that..hic!

On other news, the rowing machine is now built and proudly installed in the gym and no longer blocking the hallway. Happy days..😁

TimeIhadaNameChange · 17/03/2018 16:05

NEWSFLASH: I have lost my virginity!

Road-running virginity, that is! Up to now I’ve done all my running on a treadmill in an empty gym, mainly because I didn’t want anyone else to see me, plus there are hills roundabout, and it’s generally wet and windy here. However, I couldn’t make it to the gym yesterday, and, not wanting to get out of sync with the three runs during the week (I like generally having the two days' rest after my longer run, and didn’t want to end up with it on a Monday instead), I planned to go this morning. However, the friends I babysat for last night thought it would be nice to walk me home this morning, and I knew the kids would want to see the pets so I agreed. But the afternoon was so nice and sunny (though barely above freezing) that I decided to pull up my big girl running pants and get out there.

It was wonderful! Only a few people passed me, which was good, as I went out on the minor road near here rather than the main one. The single track does have its disadvantages, though, as either cars crept up behind me and made me jump, or else they waited in a passing space which meant I felt I hadn’t to run faster. I’m definitely doing it again!

(I’m hoping this can be counted against my carb fest last night...?)

prettybird · 17/03/2018 16:12

Star to you Time - so glad you enjoyed it.

Personally, I hate running on treadmills and actually find it more difficult than running outside Hmm. Not only do I find it more tiring Confused but even though I instinctively have a very even pace, I always feel as if I am going to fall off the back of a treadmill Shock

Now that you've lost your "virginity", a whole new world of easy access running is is opened up to you Smile

BrassicaBabe · 17/03/2018 16:15

Grin nice one Time. Go you!! Glad you enjoyed it too. (I've skipped my run today. I'm not running in the bitter east wind that has returned today)

Rayna37 · 17/03/2018 16:21

That's great Time! We took the running buggy out for the first time for a family parkrun, it was fab. Hoping to get some midweek runs in now.

Bluntness100 · 17/03/2018 16:21

Congrats time, Glad you enjoyed it!

I'm the opposite, I can only run on treadmills. I'm too self conscious outside due to some sexist abuse hurled at me by random blokes in my younger years when I tried it outside. Never done it since and have no desire too.😔

StuntNun · 17/03/2018 16:55

Cherries the weight won't go on again so long as you keep eating low carb. There's no need to have any sweet or carby foods again. If you're enjoying the way you eat now then keep on doing it. When I first hit maintenance I did reintroduce carby stuff on occasion but after the second time losing weight (baby weight, not weight regain) I just kept on with Bootcamp. If anything I'm even stricter now having ditched chocolate and nuts recently because they're too easy to overeat.

Rshard · 17/03/2018 17:01

Well done time

Bluntness100 · 17/03/2018 17:04

Roast lamb for dinner here tonight,,just saying,,😝

prettybird · 17/03/2018 17:06

Also having roast lamb for dinner Smile Just about to make some celeriac dauphinoise to serve with it (alongside buttery leeks).

BIWI · 17/03/2018 17:42

Roasted belly pork here. DH is away tonight, so I'm having a lovely evening to myself. Not sure what veg I'll be having with it, but possibly leeks and whatever else I can find in the fridge.

Bluntness100 · 17/03/2018 18:06

Ours was yum, mushrooms, green peppers, broccoli and onions. And some roast potatoes for the carb eater..🤣

BlackMozart · 17/03/2018 18:23

Well done time , well done thumbs , sorry to hear it is a tough time BIWI 💐, keep going cherries

I think sometimes in trying to make real long term changes I at least have to get to rock bottom first. It’s like a long dark night of the soul, questioning what it is I really want. I behave like a victim, like somehow it’s someone or something else’s fault until finally I get myself back to a positive mindset and take control of my own destiny again.

destinys you sound like you are in a positive place, making good choices, moving forward. Well done to,you and all those kokoing.

I am deep down in victim mode and I just need to work through it. I will get there because I don’t want to be fat anymore but right now it feels hard. Made harder by reading Sally Ann Creed’s book, Low Carb Healthy Fat Bible and she is very prescriptive. No bread/pastries etc ever again; you shouldn’t eat chocolate, you shouldn’t drink. I know all of this but I want to put my hands over my ears and not listen. The alternative is to,pretend I am doing a ‘diet’ and can return to old habits. We know that way madness lies.

Sorry for the rant.

Bluntness100 · 17/03/2018 18:26

What she says you shouldn't drink for the rest of your life?

Sod that.🤣
