Xin nian kuai le!

Happy Chinese New Year. We're in week 8, and 8 is considered a lucky number in Chinese, so hopefully this week will be a good one for us all Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

A very cold week is ahead of us, so hope you all stay warm and safe

Athel - how's the pigeon?
Cherries - how lovely of the barber. How did you find getting up & seeing yourself this morning? I hope you are still pleased with your decision. For women, so many different bits of our body are so important to how we feel about ourselves. As a white, educated, financially independent female, I lead a pretty privileged life but, nonetheless, I'd love to somehow spend a year as a man and see how different it was.

Declaring I was going to cut down on dairy was fine until I opened the fridge and realised that I have mounds of cheese, some cream, sprouts, spinach ... and not much else and no chance of getting anything else until we have a bit of a thaw. The freezer is well stocked (I just have no idea what with) so I will have a rummage for some meat later.

An impromptu meal out last night as the heating is on the blink. Chose well but had a wobble about wanting dessert which is not like me. Resisted, but really didn't need the 2nd glass of wine I had instead. DH was actually quite envious when my steak arrived with an array of buttery veg. Think this will be the future (for maintenance) as he will generally have the chips but not eat them all, so I can just pinch a few to go with my veg! Also couldn't believe how sweet the carrot tasted.

B: smoked salmon and 2 eggs scrambled with butter and a splash of cream
L: Brussels sautéed with shallot and streaky bacon, topped with Parmesan.
D: mushrooms baked in cheese sauce (probably contained flour), rump with veg (and a few battered onion rings which I did eat), 2 glasses of Malbec.

Scales stayed exactly the same which is actually the first day that's happened since I started bootcamping!

I've just lost 2.5 lbs since Wednesday! That comes from not eating, though. I expect it will go back on once my appetite returns. It is nice seeing some numbers closer to my goal weight, though. Reminds me that it is possible, even if it's false at the moment.

prettybird - which part of Glasgow are you in? I'm up on Skye, but come down from time to time. Maybe we could meet for coffee (with cream, obviously!) sometime?

StuntNun · 02/03/2018 09:27

Almahart I think the Waitrose shallotss are good value considering the labour saving. It was BIWI* that discovered them.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 02/03/2018 09:43

Morning - a lot to catch up on!

cherries, good for you taking that step and how lovely of the barber.

We are not snowed in per se, but I did have a treacherous drive home last night from the station. We live on a steep hill and at one point I really thought the car wasn't going to make it. Managed to coax it up and somehow park it.

The weight/size correlation is fascinating. I can't remember who said it, but wow at being the same dress size as someone 4 stone lighter. Just shows that it can't just be about "fat". Also where it is distributed is a very good point.

I carry most of mine between my knees and my waist - so relatively little waist, generous hips/backside and big thighs. Trousers etc can be difficult but at 5ft 2 and 10 stone I can wear size 10 dresses. Probably because they skim over hips/thighs and you can't see them in the same way you could if I'm in trousers.

I am hoping I'm over the stall - still ups and downs but the ups aren't as high/long lasting - I'm at 141lbs this morning, just 1.2lbs to get to my first goal...

I'm definitely feeling stronger, lighter etc. I am making an effort to take the stairs at work (144 between my floor and the restaurant Shock) and fit in "stealth" exercise into my daily routine. I've bought a step and some kettle bells for home too.

Sleep has also improved. Not sure about my skin though - seem to have a permanent crop of spots at the top of my nose/forehead Hmm

Today's food:
B: sautéed mushrooms and spinach, creamy coffee
L: probably HM bolognaise with cauli rice
D: TBC, may have some Oppo salted caramel ice cream as a treat

TheWayOfTheWorld · 02/03/2018 09:44

I love the frozen shallots - always have a couple of packs in the freezer.

YoLoHogwomanay · 02/03/2018 09:55

theway loving the idea of stealth exercise! like it's a secret and we won't tell ourselves we are doing it!

headout it's so true about our bodies. I'm worried I'll lose my boobs best/only assets when I'm at goal size. they are already a bit deflated though maybe they've got less belly to sit on and push them up.

Almahart · 02/03/2018 10:28

Have had two coffees with full fat milk as out of cream now. Will have a tea and then move to herbal. Also had a Lidl protein roll with tons of butter and a scraping of meridian peanut butter.

Not that great a start to the day :(

TimeIhadaNameChange · 02/03/2018 10:31

I've mentioned this before, but, talking about the weight / size correlation, I remember, many years ago, my friend from school being really perplexed that I was a smaller clothes size than her. At the time I was an 8, she a 10/12. Yet she had a flat stomach, barely a scrap of fat on her, whilst I most definitely had a spare tyre and flabby thighs. She's a couple of inches taller than me, but that's it, and she's certainly not particularly muscular.

prettybird · 02/03/2018 10:38

That would be lovely Time Smile

I'm in Pollokshields - so close to some nice coffee shops, but also close to the centre if that is more convenient.

Over the years I've met quite a few MNers and they have all been lovely Flowers and not a hairy trucker amongst them Wink

ilovecherries · 02/03/2018 10:45

Head, it's an interesting question. I WAS worried that I’d wake up this morning and be horrified by my head, but actually feel huge relief. It feels like I took control back rather than the distress I felt every morning when I saw how much I’d lost overnight. I may still have lost hair in the shower today (can’t actually see without my glasses) but it wasn’t all tangled in my toes. While I’m not Jamie lee Curtis it does actually make me feel edgy rather than sad and embarrassed. I’m actually fine opening the door like this, whereas I was keeping a hat by the door in case I got caught without a wig on. The only downside is - it’s draughty! The first time I lost my hair I was 20 and it had to be shaved as there was only a couple of tufts. Went from hair to my waist to bald in 17 days flat. Wigs were hideous in the 70s, and I refused point blank to wear them, so I remember the sense of defiance and edginess I felt with my bald head. So I'm channelling the courage of a 20 year old me.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 02/03/2018 11:48

Don't know about the pigeon yet, Head - was still alive this morning so I managed to get him to a local sanctuary first thing. The driving was slow as slow, as there are a lot of drifts in the road so each one had to be considered carefully before I went through it (I have chains). There's no way I could have fixed his arm here though.

No pigeon pie for dinner Sad Wink, but will be having roast beef with leeks, broccoli, and garlic.

Cherries, I had my head shaved on a whim when I was early 20's - it was bloody freezing! Unfortunately I have a head shaped like a boiled potato, which I had not known in advance...

ASDismynormality · 02/03/2018 12:37

ilovecherries Great to hear you are still feeling positive after taking such a big step.

My appetite has certainly come back, probably as it’s so cold!

Almahart · 02/03/2018 12:54

Help me! I feel as if I can’t stop eating

Just had two small cups of Covent Garden chicken soup (4.3g per100g), a square of dark choc and some berries, ground almonds and yoghurt concoction

I feel cold, tired and really down

AthelstaneTheUnready · 02/03/2018 13:01

Alma, that doesn't sound as if you've started! Is that all you've had today?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 02/03/2018 13:02

I've found I don't need the same amount every day, and it doesn't correlate to how active I'm being either. If you're cold and tired you need some more hot food!

Almahart · 02/03/2018 13:05

No, I’d already had a Lidl protein roll with organic peanut butter

I know it’s not that bad.....

YET!

YoLoHogwomanay · 02/03/2018 13:30

alma try a cup of creamy coffee or a cup of hot water and a dissolved stock cube. those both hit the spot for me when my appetite is a bit high.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 02/03/2018 13:32

Yet, shmet. It's baltic outside. Have a hot food feast day (LCHF of course), and don't worry about the amounts. You won't - and haven't - wanted to overeat massively so far, so listen to what your poor, cold, tired body is telling you.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 02/03/2018 13:39

Brave step, Ilove, well done! Glad you have a nice-shaped head, I really don't - it's very flat at the back!

And boo to all the "don't lose too much weight" sayers - I agree, it's mostly because they're envious of your willpower and/or because they like to have something to feel superior about - bit like drinkers who don't support people giving up the booze, and smokers who don't support people trying to give up the cigs. You hold up a mirror to their own failings, and they don't like it.

Still didn't break the 12st barrier this morning! Argh!
DH took us all out for dinner tonight, primarily because it was his turn to cook and he couldn't be bothered - so I was pretty good and had no starter, lamb main with veg and no dessert, but I did cave and have a glass of fizz (dry). Also the roast "pumpkin" that came with my dinner looked a bit butternut squashy, but I reckon it probably was actual baby pumpkin, which I don't think is as bad as yer butternut squash.

I was a bit bad at lunchtime too, because my (bought) tuna and cheese salad comes with pickled carrot strings (from a little Vietnamese take away shop in Sydney - I was there today) - but it's just not the same without them!

So I doubt I'll be below 12 st tomorrow either! but I'm still going.

Almahart · 02/03/2018 13:48

Thanks everyone. It helped! Just had a little snooze too

BlackMozart · 02/03/2018 13:52

Oh god alma I know that feeling of unreasonable hunger! It is definitely the cold that’s doing it for me and also it’s Friday and we do our weekly shop on a Saturday morning, so the fridge is looking a bit bare! I’ve made a batch of low carb cheese scones and have had 2 for lunch with ham, cucumber and mayo. I’m also drinking coffee a lot mainly to keep my hands warm! Just taken a batch of cookies out of the oven for family but luckily they are not calling too me. I deliberately made them with white chocolate which I don’t like.

BlackMozart · 02/03/2018 13:54

Posts crossed Alma so well done you!

YoLoHogwomanay · 02/03/2018 13:57

alma Maybe you are coming down with something?

Rshard · 02/03/2018 14:33

I read about cheese scones blackmozart and was inspired but we ate the last eggs at breakfast. Damn - I’d already done the dry ingredients but will have to wait until the food shop comes. They’ll be worth the wait
