Xin nian kuai le!

Happy Chinese New Year. We're in week 8, and 8 is considered a lucky number in Chinese, so hopefully this week will be a good one for us all Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

A very cold week is ahead of us, so hope you all stay warm and safe

I love cherries

Are red onion and peppers bad/carby?

Almahart · 01/03/2018 18:40

Food today:

Breakfast creamy coffee, bacon scrambled eggs and mushrooms

Lunch m&s chicken thingies (were 2.3 carbs per 100g) white fish and broccoli

Snack m&s chorizo crisps - not that great and 3.2 carbs. Had assumed lower when I bought them

4 strawberries

Dinner Pret tuna nicoise. Was ok but would have preferred something warm!

Am waiting at the theatre for a friend with a sparkling water. Might have one small glass of wine when she gets here

abbey44 · 01/03/2018 19:09

cherries you're a bit of an inspiration - and the barber is too. It kind of takes you off guard a bit when someone you don't know does something nice for you, doesn't it?

Food for today...

B: bacon & scrambled eggs
D: HM chicken liver pate and FL celery hearts

No snacks. No exercise. No regrets.

BlackMozart · 01/03/2018 19:40

Food today for me
B scrambled eggs and bacon, coffee with coconut milk
L some goats cheese, ham, a couple of cherry tomatoes, 2 bits of left over chicken skin fried, mayo
S 2 squares dark choc and coffee (was feeling v cold)
D a cross between mousaka and shepherds pie - layers of spiced lamb mince and aubergine, topped with mashed swede; emergency choc pud, coffee and 2 small glasses red wine celebrating the end of dry Feb 9and because I didn’t get my birthday afternoon tea this afternoon, and because I really wanted it)
Water, but not enough as ever

AveAtqueVale · 01/03/2018 19:45

Well done Cherries - I bet your daughter is right and you will look very cool!

And I agree with everyone that ‘don’t lose any more weight’ comments are passive aggressive, albeit probably subconsciously. My mother has started making them and I’ve only lost two stone and have three times that to go! But she is the diet saboteur to end all diet saboteurs.

On the topic of not looking your weight - it is amazing how different people carry weight differently. Almost every time I’ve been weighed in a medical setting, for pregnancies etc, they don’t believe the scales; at almost 19 stone I was still in size 16 skirts, and never more than a 20 on top, usually an 18. My friend, at the same height, also in 18s/20s, was four stone lighter than me Shock. I think I’m just ‘lucky’ to have nicely distributed fat. Which seems good, but actually means I’ve always tended to be able to completely bury my head in the sand about how ridiculously much I weigh, because if I’m only a size or two above average, it ‘can’t be that bad’ Hmm.

ilovecherries · 01/03/2018 19:55

Plantlover, they are amongst the carbier veg, if you look on the SoF from the OP you will see they are in the red zone. I eat them, I'm just aware of it, whereas before I might have put a kilo of roasted red peppers into a soup, and added onions to everything. I think it's just being aware of relative carb levels, so we don't get nasty surprises.

Rshard · 01/03/2018 20:16

Today’s food
B - scrambled eggs avo
L - ham cheese salad mayo
D - hm chicken curry with spinach and courgette

prettybird · 01/03/2018 20:46

SoMuchToBits - you are welcome to the peppers of any colour Envy

Week 8 - Low Carb Bootcamp - lucky number for some!
SoMuchToBits · 01/03/2018 21:24

prettybird, I'm hoping that the greengrocers will have restocked the Brussels when I go in on Sat afternoon! Grin I'm lucky to live within walking distance of the greengrocers (and also the butchers and a small Sainsbury), so can buy food easily, even in the snow.

I can also walk to work (I had days off anyway yesterday and today, but will be working tomorrow and Sat morning), so will be donning my sturdy boots as well as warm clothes!

Plantlover · 01/03/2018 21:27

I love cherries

Thankyou. I take a similar approach to vegetables with relatively higher carb levels. I have to as a vegetarian!

prettybird · 01/03/2018 22:39

SoMuchToBits - my local greengrocers is also close to a Sainsbury's Local and a butchers Shock You're not in Glasgow are you?Hmm

Bluntness100 · 01/03/2018 22:40

That's interesting on the peppers and onions, I eat quite a lot of them. I wasn't aware. So thanks. Will cut back

Are mushrooms ok?

BerylStreep · 01/03/2018 22:49

I use shallots instead of onions. The strange thing is that I can chop onions all day long and not be affected, but shallots get me crying in the first 30 seconds, and of course they take so much longer to prepare making it even worse.

Food for today:

B. Coffee with AM&C 2 bacon and a poached egg
L. Chicken breast and crunchy fennel and pepper salad
D. 2 sausages and fried Savoy cabbage.
S. Macadamias, another coffee with AM&C, gin and diet tonic.

Mimosa1 · 01/03/2018 22:58

I love, rayna and Nan, thanks for your special occasion tips and I Love, what a touching story about the barber and you are so brave and your daughter is aboslutely right.

BIWI · 01/03/2018 23:02

@Bluntness100 there's a veg counter on the spreadsheet which will show you the carb count of veg - really worth having a look at that, memorising it, or printing it out!

Bluntness100 · 01/03/2018 23:04

BIWi, thanks and yes ma'am, reading it now 😁

Bluntness100 · 01/03/2018 23:07

Blimey, there are a lot more carbs in some veg than I thought,,,like cucumber and lettuce,,,

CointreauVersial · 01/03/2018 23:47

Cucumber and lettuce are carby??!

Prettybird - I have a fridgeful of bloody food, as I had 14 coming for lunch on Sunday who've just cancelled because of the weather. To add insult to injury, the roads are clear here.

Just posting my meals (because I love reading everyone else's):

B - two boiled eggs with crispy bacon soldiers
L - Small cup of soup with a selection of random items on the side - olives, some leftover smoked mackerel and a chunk of brie
D - Burger with melted cheese on top, with coleslaw and salad

YoLoHogwomanay · 01/03/2018 23:56

ilove well done, that was indeed very brave. you are pretty amazing you know!

athel i would have done the same with the pigeon. I'm soppy too. and i love the clumsiness of wood pigeons. hope it survives. if you have any of that purple spray it helps kill bacteria in the wound. can't remember the name but you get it in horse/farm supply shops. I laughed at your dinner suggestion!

MumOfAPickle · 02/03/2018 00:07

Food today
B: yogurt with some berries and seeds
L: 2 x chicken thighs with cabbage
D: heck sausages in a Thai red curry sauce with broccoli
S: some pork scratchings and a couple of squares of low carb choc but nothing at the cinema tonight 😲😲 (If anyone's interested I watched I, Tonya and it was very good if a bit bleak)
Night all x

MumOfAPickle · 02/03/2018 00:08

And sorry for the kisses, I know it's not the done thing on here but I can't help it. It's a compulsion.

xx

Destinysdaughter · 02/03/2018 00:14

I made something a bit naughty tonight...cocoa powder, butter, cream, peanut butter, vanilla essence and Splenda. Mixed it up and put it in the fridge to set...it tasted just like a Snickers bar!! I really wanted a glass of red wine tonight but cos of the bloody blizzards I didn't want to walk to the shop, so this was a yummy little treat...

😀😀😀😀

SoMuchToBits · 02/03/2018 06:08

prettybird, no, I'm miles and miles away in Suffolk! Grin

Just preparing to trudge to work in the snow. It's not too deep, but very icy out there!

StuntNun · 02/03/2018 07:01

Beryl the long echalion shallots are much easier to prepare than round shallots and Waitrose sell frozen chopped shallots which are even easier.

Almahart · 02/03/2018 07:53

Frozen chopped shallots?! That is interesting. Ages ago I made the IPD onion bhajis and they would be perfect for that.

So I had two glasses of wine last night at the theatre. Didn’t even really want the second

Half a pound back on this morning, don’t know if that’s wine related or natural fluctuation. Will KOKO
