Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The Big Stick is Back!

BIWI · 05/02/2018 06:42

Morning all!

Many thanks to @prettybird and @BerylStreep for running this Bootcamp so well, so far. It's been a bit weird watching from the sidelines Grin

However, I'm back. Back in the UK, back at work and back on the wagon.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for this week

I've noticed that there's quite a bit of 'slippage' going on over the last week or so. I know that we're able to move on to Bootcamp Light now, but be very, very careful that this doesn't lead to too many carbs. And remember to keep the water and the fat up.

Good luck this week

If they're advising you not to eat eggs because of cholesterol, that's very out-dated advice!

However, @StuntNun will be able to give you a more expert view.

SoMuchToBits · 06/02/2018 14:08

Thanks, klept! I'm not sure how much I should worry about the high total cholesterol if my ratios are good.

I do eat a fair bit of fish (including salmon) and chicken, and probably only eat red meat about twice a week, but I do eat a lot of eggs and butter (and some cheese).

I feel really well eating low carb, so I'm reluctant to change my diet really.

SoMuchToBits · 06/02/2018 14:10

That's what I thought BIWI. I've just eaten a cheese and veg omelette for lunch, cooked in loads of butter!

Scabbersley · 06/02/2018 14:47

@SchrodingersFrilledLizard

I had two broken back molars. One was very easy to fix and he did it there and then. He put a temporary filling in the other one, which has a straightforward chip and a long crack which makes it more complicated. That cost me £117. I have to decide what I want to do with the other tooth. I can have it filled and patched up for around £150 or a more long lasting solution and more attractive would be a ceramic 3D printer crafted 'crown' which is £620!

Not sure which I am going to do yet. He did say pork scratchings were the work of the devil, so that's pork scratchings off the menu!!

Quickly popping in before heading off to book club ‘do’. We’re going to some ‘escape’ room thing and I’m fully expecting us to fail and get locked in but we’ll see...
Had my first day of low dairy. Coconut milk in coffee is ok if a bit weird. I expect it’s like almond milk in that it doesn’t change the colour very much, but it has had the added effect of me only having 2 cups today.
Scrambled egg and 1 rasher bacon for breakfast
Chicken, Parma ham and avocado salad for lunch; included a small bit of goats/sheeps cheese
Not sure about tea - it may have to be an omelette as I forgot to buy steak ☹️

BlackMozart · 06/02/2018 17:42

Twoo 💐
scabbersley at least you are on the way to having those teeth fixed now.

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 06/02/2018 18:03

Flowers Twoo
Night shifts always mess with my eating but have resisted the sugar
B: flaxseed crackers, butter and pate
L: greek yoghurt, double cream, apple and cinnamon flaxseed mix and a few cocoa nibs
D: Will be jeera garlic chicken livers and aubergine curry.
Not enough veg (or water) but any night shift where i don't eat a fuckton of sugar is a good one

Cherrypi · 06/02/2018 18:34

Biwi it was some threads on 16:8 on the low carb boards. I tried it with low carb. Then had a few days off at Christmas then tried it with carbs to eat the Christmas carbs up. The sugar swings made me hungry. Then I tried a bit of my fitness pal tracking which I just found annoying and too easy to lie to yourself with. Low carb is the only thing that gives me the mental space to say no to the first biscuit. I know now if I am not some one who can have just one biscuit. I did hear something on the radio that there is no such thing as willpower just less opportunites for temptation.

LeapinLizards · 06/02/2018 18:36

Hope you don't mind me joining in. I've been doing low carb, high protein, high fat since 2 Jan and I've lost 15.5 pounds. I'm obese. I don't really want to say my weight. I have I've joined Overeaters Anonymous and it seems to be helping. Not doing well with the God bit, but I'll get there. I have a 7 month old baby. I'm down over 2 stone since my pre-pregnancy weight. I've buried my head in the sand for years. I need to get healthy for me... and for her. I'm a single mum and I want to Watch this wonderful girl grow up. I go to daily OA meetings, but I'm seeking out help and support wherever I can get it. I can totally handle not drinking. I drink so little that the booze is defs not my issue. My problem is stodge. Anything with flour or potatoes. I've banned them both. Looking forward to getting involved on here. :-)

Alwaysinmyheart · 06/02/2018 19:45

Corkscrewbetty welcome and well done to you! Star

So I've had a bit of a success tonight, I've finally found a way to make cauliflower palatable ( to me ) 😀

I made cauliflower tater tots! V yummy indeed! Made with Philadelphia cheese and cheddar, baked in the oven. I've tried with cauliflower rice but wasn't keen and these have a nice crisp texture and don't taste too much of cauliflower. Would be nice with a Sunday roast instead of roast potatoes.

Found the recipe on Pinterest but there's tons on Google.

Thank you lovely ladies for the Flowers . Who’d have thought virtual flowers from very real people would bring a genuine tear to my eye. Thank you again.

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 06/02/2018 20:36

Oh my.
This is the tastiest thing IN THE WORLD
50g butter in hot pan. When hot add chicken livers (300g). Brown on either side, add half teaspoon of cumin seeds and 2 cloves grated garlic. Cook for a couple of minutes and take off when pink inside. Put on plate and pour over butter in pan. Eat all of them!
(From Made In India by Meera Sodha, with some extra butter!)

BIWI · 06/02/2018 20:44

Goodness @Twoo, what a time you've been having of it Sad

Oh and chicken livers are £1 for 300g so cheap LCHF!

BIWI · 06/02/2018 21:02

I don't know if anyone's been watching How to Lose Weight Well, on Channel 4?

It's been really interesting, and last night's was particularly good, as they showed exactly why/how alcohol is an issue for weight loss. Worth a watch for this bit alone!

Off topic but part of my general transformation, so indulge me briefly :). Short wig, quite spikey and edgy at the back - couldn't bring myself to stray from my former colour though. Haven't had hair this short since the last time I was growing hair after alopecia. A drunk on the train called me a 'fat, bald, c**t today though :(. I just don't get why people spew venom like that over strangers. Well, over anyone, to be honest. Anyway, bought myself new hair in Glasgow. Now I have two, so at least I'm covered on days like today when one is being washed.

LeapinLizards · 06/02/2018 21:21

Hello corkscrew. You've done incredibly well so far with a big loss - good on you. Im a single mum too so understand some of those pressures. You'll get lots of support on here - very supportive, knowledgeable & helpful bunch.

Thanks for that link BIWI. Alcohol is a failing of mine - though, not this month! - so I will definitely watch that.

LeapinLizards · 06/02/2018 21:24

cherries it's gorgeous! Properly gorgeous.
Sorry to hear about the venomous drunk. What a horrid thing to say.

prettybird · 06/02/2018 21:40

Made fathead pizza tonight. It was very tasty - although I still haven't worked out how to make the full base firm enough - it's still a bit soggy in the centre, although the edges are nicely crisp.

BerylStreep · 06/02/2018 21:41

Cherries sorry to hear about the abuse that was hurled in your direction. Your hair is lovely.

I'll have a look at the cauliflower tater tots, they look really good.

Well I'm having my first Seedlip. I must say I like it!

Twoo · 06/02/2018 21:43

Cherries’ your hair looks great! Ignore the haters on the train.
