Week 4 – Is this the new normal? Because it feels great!

Welcome to the week 4 thread of Bootcamp. I enjoyed the power of wielding BIWI’s big stick last week so much that I am staying on for another week. Grin Normal service will be returning next week.

So week three was great – as well as lots of impressive scale victories, there were loads of NSVs – bras moved to the next hook, colleagues commenting favourably, feeling as if there is more energy, along with err, some less orthodox NSVs such as smaller earlobes and re-emerging pubes. Grin

The thing that has really struck me is the number of posters who have lost significant weight over the last year, and are sticking with it and still seeing progress. That’s a fantastic inspiration to us all, and really shows how this WOE works long-term.

There are a number of posters who have committed to doing dry February (along with a few who are kicking a diet coke habit). This starts on Thursday, but it goes without saying that this is not an excuse to put as much away as possible before that! note to self

Thanks to BIWI who has been working hard on creating the Bootcamp recipe threads. There are loads of great ideas there to avoid menu boredom.

So KOKO, and good luck for the weigh in, but also remember the scales are only one indicator of progress. Here is the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Your hair is gorgeous cherries! Very stylish!

BlackMozart · 29/01/2018 18:57

blackteaplease thank you, you are right. I am pouring myself a large glass of water instead.

BlackMozart · 29/01/2018 19:11

Twat moment avoided. I am NOT drinking wine. Coffee, large glass of water and a bit of 85% dark choc has averted disaster.

BIWI

My breakfast is always hard boiled eggs.

Lunch: I have had (2 days) tuna salad (tuna mixed with full fat Helmans, with rocket) (2 days) cold chicken pieces on their own. 1 day I missed lunch.

Dinners: Spinach & stilton omelette made with 3 eggs, fried in butter. Home made chicken curry - chicken, shallots, mushrooms, cream, curry powder (ate over 2 days)
Steak with green salad
Mice mixed with spinach and mushrooms
Steak with sliced mozzarella cheese and mushrooms and rocket

Drinking - 1 pint water when I get up; 1.5 litre bottle during the day, 1 glass overnight. Plus black tea and coffee (I don't take milk).

One thing this week - I have had the cold that's been going round and have taken ibuprofen daily for a sore throat and 'Night Nurse' at bedtime.

My thought is I probably need more veg/fibre and more water in the evenings rather than tea. I did lose 2lb in the first week so it's not all bad, but before Xmas I was at the same plateau for weeks .

ScreamingValenta · 29/01/2018 19:15

Sorry, obviously that is mince with spinach, not mice (I am not a cat!)

BIWI · 29/01/2018 19:33

Hmm. I think, perhaps, you need also to try and add a bit more fat into your meals - all your protein is relatively low in fat. (Even the mice Grin)

BIWI · 29/01/2018 19:34

... and I have also read that ibuprofen can cause problems, but I'm not sure why that might be. I'll see what I can find out. There may also have been sugar in the Night Nurse.

ScreamingValenta · 29/01/2018 19:38

Thank you BIWI - I hadn't thought of trying that. I'll have a look on the recipe thread for inspiration (and start leaving more cheese out to fatten those mice up Grin ). I could really fancy some pork chops tomorrow so I'll see if I can find some with lots of rind on them!

ScreamingValenta · 29/01/2018 19:39

I'm over the worst of the cold now, thankfully, so shouldn't need any more medication. The NN was sweet-tasting so wouldn't be surprised if it had sugar in (and probably alcohol) but I needed something to stop me waking up and coughing all night.

prettybird · 29/01/2018 19:40

Love your eyebrows and new hair ilovecherries - the shade looks perfect for your colouring.

The funeral today went well. It was a good celebration of a life well lived. The childhood friend who I haven't seen for nearly 40 years (and who is probably my oldest friend, in that our parents got to know each other 53 years ago, just after we arrived in the UK from SA) recognised me - so that in itself a compliment. She's also looking good for her age. From a vanity perspective, I'm glad that I wasn't the weight I was 7 months ago! Shock

My size 14 blouse was straining a bit over my boobs though - bloody non-deflating boobs Wink Crappy mirror pic hides the worst of the straining though Blush

Over-the-counter (OTC) drugs that can slow weight loss:>
Nonsteroidal aniti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) including aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin). naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn) and ketoprofen (Orudis) cause water retention and may block fat burning. Other OTC drugs can also interfere with weight loss.
Recommendation: For pain relief, use acetaminophen (Tylenol or Panadol), which is not a NSAID. Your physician may be able to suggest additional alternative aniti-inflammatory remedies.

I'm glad to hear the funeral was a worthy celebration, prettybird. You look slim and elegant in your pic, with a very neat waist.

ScreamingValenta · 29/01/2018 19:51

Ah, that makes sense, BIWI, thank you. I tend to find ibuprofen is the only thing that helps a sore throat, but I will stick to paracetamol where possible in future.

SayrraT · 29/01/2018 20:03

You all have to put parmasean on your kale! OMG!

feekerry · 29/01/2018 20:21

Hello people!
I’m joining (very) late if that’s okay. Done a few in the past so know how to do it but can never seem to stick to it. However... just been to slimming world for the first time to check it out as seen some good stuff about it.... it’s not for me (no offence to anyone) I sat there and thought there has to be a better way!! So I’m back and committed!!!
Will start proper on Wednesday as need a day to prepare etc.
Might have a look at some basic exercise apps for total unfit numpties like me if anyone can recommend any??
And I will delete mfp?? Or useful to keep track??

SayrraT · 29/01/2018 20:25

Taking stuntnuns advice.

I need help! There is a bar of chocolate covered marzipan in the cupboard whispering to me Sad I hardly ever have cravings like this but I can't think of anything else.

ilovecherries · 29/01/2018 20:26

I keep thinking I recognise you from real life prettybird. You look very trim - big difference from your wedding guest photo. (When you did actually look lovely - just more of you!)

Twoo · 29/01/2018 20:35

Just watched How to Lose Weight Well. One diet featured was the CSIRO diet. This is basically what we are doing but also excludes dairy. One lady on the program went from 11st 4lbs to 10st in two weeks. TWO WEEKS. Me thinks I will knock Diary on the head Grin

BIWI · 29/01/2018 20:37

@ScreamingValenta - the only thing about paracetamol is that it isn't an anti-inflammatory, like ibuprofen is.

So if you're really suffering from pain that's caused by inflammation - like your sore throat - I'd still say go for the ibuprofen

Twoo · 29/01/2018 20:39

Welcome feekerry. I use mfp to track my carbs/protein & fats, so I’d keep it as it’s useful.

ScreamingValenta · 29/01/2018 20:41

Yes - last week I felt so rough I'd have taken practically anything to get me through the day, but I generally try to avoid ibuprofen as it gives me acid reflux if I have it too often. Fingers crossed I won't need anything this week!

BerylStreep · 29/01/2018 20:41

Feekerry welcome back.

Sayrra don’t do it. Is there someone else who can eat it for you? It is likely to stall you for at least a week.

ScreamingValenta · 29/01/2018 20:43

Sayrra Put the chocolate in the freezer - that way it will have to be defrosted before it can be eaten, and likely the craving will wear off during that time.

BerylStreep · 29/01/2018 20:43

Talking of acid reflux, I haven’t had any since I started back on this WOE, with the exception of Christmas when I did some mindful off piste.
