Sorry for the later start than usual

Here's the Spreadsheet .

So our last two weeks - time, if you wanted, to go back to Bootcamp proper and really make sure you maximise the chances of losing another few pounds.

Good luck all Flowers

Nice* one Asd*.

I need to dig out a rather sad bag of frozen sprouts from the freezer and give them another go Smile

My food yesterday has not been brilliant:

B - low carb slice of bread with egg nukes in work microwave
L - 2 slices of low carb bread with melted cheese
D - bunless cheeseburger with pickle and a tiny bit of shredded lettuce
S - square of dark choc and a Diet Coke

Must do better in veg.

Our office rents our space to other companies and it's a shared kitchen and one of the new tenants keeps eating my low carb bread (and cheese and avocados) several slices a day. The thing is, it's not really "mine" per se - the team PA buys food for everyone in our office and I've requested it as I'm bootcamping. I'm unreasonably cross at the (presumably not bootcamping tenant) eating it though. For one thing, there is loads of other bread and it's not being bought for him. On the other hand, we do always say to people to help themselves so I need to get over it!

BlackMozart · 06/12/2017 10:32

Happy to post the pear and ginger cake recipe but also aware that the boot camp thread may not be the place for a non low carb recipe! Want to avoid the big stick 😊

TimeIhadaNameChange · 06/12/2017 11:04

Pear and ginger cake sounds great! I'd love the recipe as DP would love it (and, as ever, we have a huge surplus of eggs to use up!).

Work Christmas dinner last night, in a v posh hotel. I don't think I did too badly, overall, other than the alcohol (the food I left is in brackets):

A: whisky; small glass of mulled cider (cold - would have been nicer warm); 2 glasses of wine

HD: lamb nugget in Panko breadcrumbs (smoked salmon thingy - hate fish)

S: lentil soup with a dollop of posh herby butter dolloped in (bread)
M: roast beef, slow-cooked beef, brussels, broccoli, jus (mashed potatoes, carrots, parsnips)
D: lemon posset (VERY sweet, only ate about a third of an admittedly large portion), blackberry jelly, blackberries, meringues (shortbread biscuits - took them home for DP)

C: Coffee (Mince pie - again, it went home)

All in all it was a great evening, and I hope didn't do too much damage. We'll see!

FurryTurnip · 06/12/2017 12:14

I'm checking in for some accountability as I am really teetering today. Hopefully this will help.

So far today I have eaten:

Greek yogurt with cream and berries
2 boiled eggs
4 quorn chicken and cheese roll ups
More chunks of cheese
Half a tin of chilli almonds
A mini Wispa bar
A small chocolate lollipop

The last two nicked from my son's stash.... And all before 11am.

Totally gluttenous, total emotional eating, total carby twattery. I have a job interview tomorrow that a lot is riding on. I must reign in the eating right now or I am going to feel terrible tomorrow, will be sick and bloated. Stopping now. Confession over. Thanks for listening!

Rshard · 06/12/2017 12:47

I’m guessing nerves/stress about the interview is the trigger furry? Can you do anything else to deflect the feelings? A walk or something? Well done for posting tho!

FurryTurnip · 06/12/2017 12:55

Thanks Rshard for replying, you are right, it is totally anxiety eating. Normally I would go for a walk or run to feel better but have so much prep to do and this is my only window of opportunity. But I've not eaten since posting that, it definitely helps, it's like having a little gang of low carb angels sitting on my shoulder keeping me out of trouble.

If I consider some of the mountain of food I ate to be a very early lunch and have a small dinner tonight, there's not too much damage done. And luckily am at work soon so won't be able to fall head first into a giant Toblerone!

Jerm123 · 06/12/2017 13:13

I’m a bit Shock

Yesterday, I had an absolutely dreadful day. Was very stressed, in a first world problems sort of way.

During the day, I ate 4 chocolates (really yummy, flaky ones from m&s) and had rice with my chilli, as I’d already ruined the day anyway. This was my first day like this during the bootcamp!

This morning, as a punishment I made myself get on the scales after breakfast. I weighed 13,13.1 which is over a pound down on Monday.

just going to get my hat and coat...... I just don’t understand my body Confused

Scabbersley · 06/12/2017 13:17

Jerm123 it takes me at least a week to show carby twatness on the scales.

I also really craved something sweet today, the first time for ages. I had cocoa, hot almond milk, butter, cream and a pinch of truvia in the blender. It was really nice except for the truvia aftertaste Hmm

Rshard · 06/12/2017 13:20

Glad you’re feeling a bit better furry, the accountability to the tread and fellow bootcampers helps me too.

It might take longer than 24 hours to catch up with you jerm?

pimmsy · 06/12/2017 13:29

Hello All,

I'm finding reading about your victories very motivating. I still haven't weighed for this week as I don't own any scales. But I'm trying to KOKO.
I seem to be generally okay on the food side but have surprised myself by how much I drink. I used to think I didn't really drink a lot at all. But now because I'm more aware of everything I'm putting in my body, I'm realizing that I'm used to having a couple of glasses of wine at least every other evening. I've really been trying to cut down but I'm out a lot in the evenings for both work and pleasure and am finding it hard not drinking at all...

ilovecherries · 06/12/2017 14:24

Furry, that sounds tough, but it's done. Just draw a line, forgive yourself and move right on. And while yes, no more carbytwatdom, I think it's really important not to punish yourself either, so if you feel hungry later, then eat, don't starve to atone for earlier, this isn't SW or WW where that might work short term. Just make it LCHF appropriate food. And drink your fluids :)

StuntNun · 06/12/2017 14:40

Jerm sometimes a higher carb day like that will trigger a "whoosh" where your body lets go of all the water temporarily stored in fat cells to replace the fat you have burned off. We don't recommend doing it on purpose because you can never be quite sure that a whoosh is due, and the whoosh will happen anyway even if you don't do it. So that weight loss may well stick for you.

FurryTurnip · 06/12/2017 14:43

Ilove you are so right, and I was just thinking something similar in relation to Jerm's post about weighing after eating. It almost as if we are looking to punish ourselves.

A few bits of chocolate are not going to set us back far, and it's real life, these things will come along and test us constantly.

Thanks for the reminder, as I don't ever want this WOE to have all the negative connotations of WW or SW with their 'I've been bad today' mentality.

Scabbersley · 06/12/2017 14:46

Ive eaten a croissant, a good few squares of dark chocolate, drunk wine, had a slice of pizza (which I didn't tell you about Grin), had lattes at the beginning. I've lost 12lb so far and might make it a stone this bootcamp. I will say the carbs came at the beginning of bootcamp, I am more together now.

Scabbersley · 06/12/2017 14:48

Ah meant to report food
B: bacon eggs
L: frothy almond milk cocoa. Brussels with butter and cheese.
D: steak and salad and mayo

ilovecherries · 06/12/2017 15:06

I'm terribly smelly today :(. I had this problem way back in May, and it seemed to settle (I hope it did!!), but today and yesterday there is a keto miasma following me around. Even my own nose isn't enjoying being above my mouth. I'm chewing parsley and mint, I've brushed my teeth again, I've used mouthwash, I'm drinking plenty and I'm not hungry and I've eaten Greek salad for lunch but I absolutely reek of ketones. I came back into the living room just now (where I'd been sitting working for a few hours) and the room is stinking with ketones. I'm a bit embarrassed by it. Why does this periodically become an issue, and what can I do to stop it (other than eat toast!)?

ilovecherries · 06/12/2017 15:50

Bloody hell. There are 36 gms of carbs in one mince pie! Last year I might have been eating three a day at this stage. Plus sundry quality street. Plus all the 'healthy' carbs I'd consume in a day: porridge, orange juice, banana, apple, few satsumas, whole grain bread, wholewheat pasta/brown rice/jacket potato, baked beans, lattes, the odd hot chocolate, etc etc. How many carbs was I actually eating?? It must have been hundreds and hundreds. Now it's very unusual for me to break 30.

prettybird · 06/12/2017 16:06

My home made mince pies might be slightly less as the "secret" to my fantastic shortcrust pastry is slightly more fat to flour (all the "standard" recipes state half fat to flour).

I'm still only going to have one mince pie over the festive period though Xmas Grin

So far I've made 63 normal sized ones and 12 mini ones what can I say, I like making mince pies Xmas Wink - and not had a single one Xmas Shock

ilovecherries · 06/12/2017 17:23

I'm feeling ill, snotty, (smelly!), in pain, worried about something and generally a bit down. For the first time in a long time feeling worn down a bit. While I've been very conscientious in never using food as reward or emotional anaesthetic since I started in May, tonight I just felt I wanted something different. So I had a spoonful of this, made up with hot water, a big pinch of chilli powder stirred into it, and a dollop of whipped cream on top. I think it only came to a couple of grams, and it was just lovely and has made the Xmas pies look a lot less tempting then they were an hour ago. It's stupidly expensive, but absolutely delicious. www.hotelchocolat.com/uk/100-dark-hot-chocolate.html#q=Hot+chocolate&prefn1=productType&prefv1=Hot+Chocolate&start=5

Thiswillbemyusername · 06/12/2017 17:53

@ilovecherries sorry to hear about your ketones problem Sad I've not encountered it myself (at least i don't think i have). Can i ask, what do ketones smell like?

(Sorry to not have any advice for you Flowers)

BrassicaBabe · 06/12/2017 18:10

Has anyone heard or or tried "fat balls"? I read about them in the i today. A quick google found this
www.theroastedroot.net/ketogenic-fat-balls/

StuntNun · 06/12/2017 18:33

Cherries can you up your water intake to dilute the ketones?

Brassica fat bombs aren't ideal for weight loss as they are high calorie and often not too low in carbs so I would save them for when you're at weight maintenance. I have made them occasionally but they're dangerous for me as I don't have the self-control to stop at one.

SecretSix · 06/12/2017 18:46

Checking in on day three for me...be proud of me, I went to work on an egg! Well two eggs, scrambled with butter, then a bowl of Greek yoghurt. I’ve had porridge every day for about ten years. I also took a salad lunch with cheese and ham to my meeting as the lunch provided is always sandwiches.

Have bought lots of fish and veg in the supermarket. Salmon and dill fishcakes tomorrow from Nigel Slater kitchen diaries.

ilovecherries · 06/12/2017 19:16

No, I don't think I can increase my water, I'm already at what I'm meant to have, and it's not helping. In the end, I've made a slaw with grated carrot, onion and raw spinach in mayo, 6 cherry tomatoes, and a couple of boiled eggs with a handful of roasted nuts ground on top. That seems to have raised my carbs to a level that's made me feel a lot better. Looking back over the last couple of days, I suspect my carbs have crashed well under 20, and that really doesn't agree with me, I've found.

BlackMozart · 06/12/2017 19:16

Yay secret well done! 😀
