Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Still with us?!

Morning campers Flowers

Here's the SoF

From last week's thread it sounds like most people are managing to stick on track for most of the time, which is great.

We have four full weeks left, so still time to make a big difference.

Hope this week goes well.

Ave Diet Doctor suggestions for Indian food

HolgerDanske · 25/11/2017 10:50

Depends on the nuts - if it’s cashews it will be very high in carbs. Most other nuts would probably be fine for a treat meal, as long as you don’t routinely eat nuts every single day.

I always have dhal, even though it is fairly high in carb content, because I love it, and since I’m not having rice or bread that’s my indulgence. I always think in terms of better carbs vs lesser carbs, so to me, if I’m going out for a meal a glass of wine or two trumps dessert and veg or legume based carbs like lentils or even potato trump high carbs like rice/pasta/bread. That works pretty well for me.

pimmsy · 25/11/2017 11:29

Happy Saturday bootcampers.

I just realised how much I think of you every time I'm about to reach for carbs.

So thank you.

I found this cleaning behind the dresser in my kitchen today and straight away thought of @FurryTurnip

So far today I've had lots of black coffee, with have cabbage and lardons for lunch and am then out to supper so will probably have fish.

YoLoElfSocks · 25/11/2017 13:11

pimmsy Grin love the furry turnip!

I have onions shrivelling in my fridge. Because I hardly ever cook with them. And I have cooked pork belly for grab and go food. Never did that before bc!

BlackMozart · 25/11/2017 14:36

Hello everyone. I was away working for three days this week so have not really kept. Have read the last few pages so am sending good wishes to C4 and keeping fingers crossed for Ave

I pretty well survived the hotel food. Breakfast ok but had to be eggs and bacon because no other low carb options. Dinner fine. They even had pork belly served on creamed celeriac. I left the apple sauce and ordered extra buttered greens. The problem was at lunchtime which was all sandwiches, chips and soup. I took the fillings out of the sandwiches and had half a cup of soup but that was definitely carby.

I did have a glass of red wine on Wednesday and a white on Thursday
night and also a square of dark chocolate each day whilst away so
definitely not a Bootcamp week but Bootcamp lite maybe. I was very hungry yesterday though and a bit less so today so hopefully I’m getting back to normal. Today no breakfast just a coffee and just now a salad with chicken, bacon and a few pecans with some mayo. Tonight it’s pork chop, mashed swede and mustardy leeks. Have not opened a bottle of wine and am trying not to think about it 😊

BlackMozart · 25/11/2017 14:39

I should also say I would be up for joining a new year Bootcamp if that is going to happen.
Well done as well to those who seem to have reached or nearly reached their goals. It gives me real hope that eventually that will be me too.

Mimosa1 · 25/11/2017 14:51

Hi Blackmozart, I'm still 1.5 stone from goal so would also be up for a January between bootcamp type thread.
I've found the online support here invaluable

Rshard · 25/11/2017 15:03

Hi all

I’m definitely up for a January boot camp. Am hoping to be about a stone from my goal. I agree, the support from and accountability to my fellow boot campers has helped me massively.

B - spinach omelette
L - spinach rocket lettuce radish cucumber ham mayo
D - sausages swede broccoli

Scabbersley · 25/11/2017 15:28

B: lidl roll, butter cheese, pork rillettes
L: smoked mackerel, salad. Greek yogurt with raspberries
D: fathead pizza

Not enough veg today! Or water! Will drink a litre later.

FurryTurnip · 25/11/2017 15:30

Love the furry turnip Pimmsy! It's like looking in the mirror! I had to pull the cooker out today to try and rescue a (live) mouse our cat brought in. The whole side of the cooker was covered in spinach. Clearly our household cleaning skills are lacking.

Feeling very hungry and wanting comfort food today, think it's the cold and sleet.

B: fasted
L: scrambled eggs, spinach, Stilton
D: planning Thai Red veg curry with tofu
S: half a protein roll with butter and smoked cheese, too much dark chocolate

Good to hear you are all planning a January boot camp, I am very close to goal so may not strictly need it but don't quite feel ready to let go of the support and focus this thread provides. Being accountable to someone really helps me (though not so much to stop me eating the other half of the protein roll like I'm about to do...)

Whoops, sorry for posting twice. And this app keeps removing paragraphs, may have to get rid of it!

StuntNun · 25/11/2017 15:38

Ave I have lamb tikka and a vegetable bhaji from the Indian takeaway. Our local Indian has aubergine or okra bhaji which don't seem too carby but the one in the next town over does an amazing cauliflower bhaji.

Grimbles · 25/11/2017 16:35

Hi all! Still in a sulk with Mr. Smug who has lost another pound despite him being on the beer a couple of nights ago Angry

I hoping I'm due a whoosh soon, I feel all jiggly and my weight hasn't changed for a couple of weeks now.

Can I ask about water, if you are exercising do you need to increase your intake, or is the movement increasing the rate your body deals with it?

B. Fasting
L. Skinny Byron burger (no bun) with blue cheese. I also shared a Cobb salad with Mr. Smug - chicken, bacon, blue cheese, avocado, egg, spinach and tomato.
D. Will be some prawns with a small dollop of Marie rose.

Almahart · 25/11/2017 16:57

Totally up for a January bootcamp

Am planning to be very careful over Christmas

Kleptronic · 25/11/2017 18:40

I need a January bootcamp too. I have stayed the same for 4 weeks.

HarlotsWeb · 25/11/2017 18:43

B Creamy coffee
L Bunless burger and salad
D Choi sum and minced beef stir fried in sesame oil and doused in soy sauce

ilovecherries · 25/11/2017 18:46

Very challenging couple of days - the only real option to a carb-fest (posh country house wedding) was an awful lot of fasting, so I am bloody STARVING. Didn't go off piste, not even for a nibble, but it was hard. Even the bacon this morning was some kind of sweet cure. And never have I stayed in a hotel that was completely unaccomodating food-wise. It was a set menu, and that's all they could provide. I even said I'd pay but apparently the kitchen could only do a 'special' diet with 48 hours notice. I had to practically prostitute myself for a grudging cheese salad. So basically I've had nothing but eggs, cheese and sparkling water. Dropping my carbs that low really doesn't agree with me, so tonight it's a lot of salad (with tomatoes and grated carrot), and a huge bowl of chilli (no beans) with sour cream and avocado. I'm peering anxiously into the oven waiting for it to be done. If I haven't lost weight on Monday I will be pissed.

AveAtqueVale · 25/11/2017 19:36

Cherries that’s amazing! I don’t think I’d have held out in those circumstances!

Thank you for all the Indian suggestions. Now to persuade DH we need to order another takeaway soon so I can try them out Grin.

I slightly carby twatted today - went over to my mother’s with DSs and arrived to find she had purchased an 18-portion birthday cake for DS1 Shock. To clarify, it is not his birthday - his birthday is in July. She went to buy him a cupcake and saw this (it was a rainbow cake and he is obsessed with rainbows) and decided he had to have it. He is 3 - he can’t even manage a whole cupcake himself! (We also had to weather a distressing few minutes when he realised that actually eating some of the wonder-cake would involve cutting and mutilating it.) Thankfully I couldn’t eat any of the cake as it was gluteny but I did eat some quite a few fingerfuls of the icing because it looked amazing. It was not. It was sickly sweet and chemical tasting. So now I feel sick and annoyed at the cake’s existence, when in fact I’m just annoyed at my own lack of willpower. It has come home with us and I think after DS and DH have each had another slice tomorrow the other 14 portions can go in the bin Hmm.

Also just to have a minor rant/ vent: DM was also hugely irritated that I didn’t want to eat the gluten free chicken kiev and chips she offered to make me at 3pm... She seems to find the fact I’m trying to get a handle on my really crap relationship with food quite personally insulting. When (after being asked) I told her I’d lost a stone in the last seven weeks she looked me up and down and just said ‘well you can’t really tell, can you? Anyway, you’ll need to have some carbs soon or you’ll get an allergy to them or something.’ Aaaarrgghhh.

Mimosa1 · 25/11/2017 19:49

Ave some mothers can be a bit... challenging.
I know whereof I speak. On the plus side, you haven't throttled anyone today!

Cherries i am in awe of your willpower!

Popping back into the thread to say that in honour of all the Indian food discussion, I've concocted a rather delicious chicken korma. I buy the small paste plus oil pots and run them on chicken thighs, resting on a bed of veggies tossed in olive oil, red vinegar and some tinned toms if you like the veggies / curry wet and voila. I hate the faff having to brown chicken before cooking it and you don't need to in this case. 5mn prep time and done.

Rshard · 25/11/2017 19:59

Impressive restraint ilove

My mum doesn’t get either ave, annoying

ilovecherries · 25/11/2017 20:05

I feel much more human now I've had dinner :).

FurryTurnip · 25/11/2017 20:43

Wow Ilove that is truly impressive self control!

I fell into some carby twatness today. Annoyed with myself as I've managed 5 weeks without anything too bad but this evening I have demolished the best part of a bag of popcorn. I sort of knew it was coming though, and it reminded me what an emotional eater I am. I am shattered today and a bit glum, so it happened. I've now come to bed at 8.30pm as I know what would happen if I stayed up. I can already feel my stomach starting to churn...

Ave sorry you are having to deal with difficult situations with your mum. What a shame she couldn't acknowledge your fantastic achievement of losing the stone.

Thiswillbemyusername · 25/11/2017 23:00

Evening just popping in to log my food as I didn't do it yesterday

B: 2 x babybel and couple of squares of dark chocolate (I didn't have anything in)
L: scrambled eggs with butter, cheese and avocado
S: steamed veg bag (it had carrots and sweetcorn in: they taste so sweet now it's like eating (non-dark) chocolate)
D: roasted chicken thing with buttered Brussels sprouts and broccoli, with grilled cheese on top.

Hope everyone is KOKO. We all slip some time :D

prettybird · 25/11/2017 23:57

Food today. Managed a 22 hour fast should have been 24 hours but only finished my Cava at 10.30 last night Blush

So, first meal was roast chicken, with buttered leeks and microwaved with butter, of course brussels after Strictly, followed by strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries with cream - and a couple of glasses of a gorgeous South African Chenin from the Asara vineyard.

Good day generally: made chocolate chip cookies in the morning (although ds' rugby game was cancelled so they are still in the house Hmm) and then I went to Murrayfield with my dad to see Scotland crucify Australia Grin He'd made some rolls filled with lovely smelly cheese that my brother had brought over from France and brought some toffee waffle biscuits - and I turned them both down Smile Quaffed water instead! Shock

Also resisted the tablet (made by me last week) that dh served up with coffee after the meal.

Ave - so sorry your mum is not supportive. The problem is with her, not you. You're fabulous - learning a new WoE, getting results - and so you deserve to feel good about it. Give yourself some Flowers and a Star

Ilovecherries - very poor show from that hotel. But very good show from you in keeping up with this WoE Smile
