Morning all Smile

Well done for reaching week 5, hopefully by now low carb eating should be pretty natural to everyone.

Just watch out for complacency, don't think "oh a wee bit won't hurt" it might!

If you need food inspiration (some people might find they are eating the same things and getting bored) check out the recipe thread or one if the many low carb/keto websites for ideas.

Good luck everyone Smile

Wonderful to hear from you c4, welcome back! You've been missed.

Frustrating day for me today as I've gained a pound. I've not made bad food choices although thinking back, there must have been some carb creep as I've had lots of meals out where the choices haven't always been fantastic and haven't drunk enough water. It's frustrating that it's been the same pound gained and lost for 2 weeks. If next week of being strict BC doesn't shift things again, I'm contemplating an egg fast. Wise bootcampers, is that too soon? Ive read in places that they are to break stalls of 1m+?

Clear don't mean to bring down the tone! I've been LCHFing for 3m so a stall is expected. It's just that I'm now back at my pre-baby (overweight) weight, and I'm worrying that after the weight simply falling off me on this woe, my body is somehow at a set point I'm not happy with. Still I haven't put on weight beyond this pesky yoyo pound so that's good I suppose.

prettybird · 10/11/2017 11:08

TimeIhadanamechange - good news is that I read an article by a PT recently that said that research had shown that weight/interval training had suggested that exercise with weights in the morning had more of a fat burning effect, whereas doing them in the evening had more of a muscle building effect.

That was over a long period of time though - not sure it will work in time for your 26 weeks target though Grin

My SV this morning is that I saw 12 stone 9lb (in fact after my shower I saw 12 stone 8 and 3/4lb Shock) on the scales Smile I might even achieve my Lowvember goal - and in turn my Christmas goal (to break through to 11 stone) might even be achievable Smile

Also, only 2 stone to go to my initial target weight Smile I'll only just be into "normal" BMI at that weight, so I'll review then how I feel and look and decide what weight I want to maintain at.

Thanks furry for the recipe, sounds lovely, I have some ground almonds.

Sounds a scary time C4, you’re clearly a v tough lady.

StuntNun · 10/11/2017 12:08

It's good to have you back C4 it sounds like a very scary experience all round.

poorbuthappy · 10/11/2017 12:54

Great to hear from you C4 - hope Lola is helping you to feel better!

Period number 3 on this WOE arrived this morning, and again it's so much heavier than normal (well whatever normal is considering I'm 43) and sorry for TMI but I'm losing a lot of clots again and it's making me feel rotten... Sad
Has anyone else found this? Does it settle?

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 10/11/2017 13:11

Good to have you back C4. Hope you are feeling better.

Mimosa I actually didn’t find the egg fast too extreme. It is quite similar to how I do LCHF at the end of the month when I’m out of cash! Obviously you are cutting the veg that you’d normally have so I would take a multi vitamin but you are still eating plenty of calories and if you are already fat adapted it’s not that bad. You can just do three days and see how you get on.

I have just arrived in New York. Think I managed to negotiate the plane food ok (chicken risotto, just ate the chicken) and I took some strawberries and chreme fraiche and almonds as a snack. I am obviously worried about coping this weekend though. I had an anxiety dream where I was at a work dinner with Bill Bryson (no idea why!) and he ordered pizza and I had to eat it.

Fortunately I am unlikely to be dining with any minor celebrities this (or any other) weekend so I am sure I will manage Grin

prettybird · 10/11/2017 13:11

Poorbuthappy - can't comment specifically on the effect of this WoE but when I starting going through the peri-menopause in my 40s, one of the first symptoms was heavier periods with more blood clots and flooding - something I'd not really suffered from before.

C4rollinandventing · 10/11/2017 14:02

Thanks everyone, Smokey and Lola sleep next to each other and play together nicely so I couldn't ask for more.
Smokey has a chest infection and has been to the vet twice this week but is on the mend.

I fully expect to gain a fair amount of weight in the next few weeks as my body adapts to eating again but it's kind of nice knowing what 9st 10lbs feels like. All of my clothes are hanging off me so I've been shopping online for size 10/12 clothes which feels surreal, I was a size 16 when I started the previous Bootcamp.

Today I've eaten
a creamy coffee
A bowl of cauliflower soup
I probably won't eat again as I get to about 6:00pm and flake out.

78Ash · 10/11/2017 14:30

Silly question probably, but where do cooking apples fit on the carb scale? I imagine they'd be lower than eating apples but I couldn't see them on the list. They give that little bit of bite in pork casseroles and stewed (or nuked) without sugar I expect they'd be good with greek yoghurt.

ASDismynormality · 10/11/2017 15:00

Ooh Tim have a fabulous time in NY, I'm going next year so would be interested to hear if you find any good low carb foods/places to eat!

Scabbersley · 10/11/2017 15:14

Lunch out with dd1. Went to Starbucks and had a scrambled egg and tomato and spinach thing. 3.6 carbs per 100g.
And an Americano with cream which they made very happily.

Scabbersley · 10/11/2017 15:15

NYC will be full of low carb meals! Have a fab time.

prettybird · 10/11/2017 15:31

Cooking apples afaik are not lower than eating apples carb-wise. They are "cooking" because of the way their texture changes when cooked.

Think of how often things that are "reduced" sugar are actually sweetened - with apple juice Hmm

If you're wanting a "fruit" to have with pork, maybe try some rhubarb (although not sure what it would be like unsweetened).

For Greek yoghurt, some berries would be ok. You can cook up some frozen ones into a compote.

78Ash · 10/11/2017 15:39

Looks like cooking apples are lower in carb (Sainsbury's puts them in at 8.1g per 100g - stewed without sugar, eating apples at around 12g per 100g). Might be missing something though!
Rhubarb with meat sounds like it might just work. Time for a freezer dive.

78Ash · 10/11/2017 15:47

Sorry, wasn't getting consistent results searching for the answer. Thanks for giving it some thought for me @prettybird.

poorbuthappy · 10/11/2017 16:30

Thanks prettybird. Just seems a massive co-incidence that they changed when I started this WOE.

Thiswillbemyusername · 10/11/2017 17:09

I know I'm a bit behind the times but... I've found a celeriac! Do any of you have any good recipes for it?

Thiswillbemyusername · 10/11/2017 17:09

Where's my manners, please Smile

TempusEejit · 10/11/2017 17:47

Good to have you back C4

mimosa you can do an egg fast any time you like really, it's not like it'll hurt you. The key to sticking with it is to make lots of different egg recipes instead of just non stop omelettes and boiled eggs. When I did it I made egg waffles which I used as a base for cheese toasties, egg & cream cheese pancakes etc. I breathe I'm hungry has some great recipes.

Hello everyone else!

cafeaulaitpourvous · 10/11/2017 17:51

C4 is back in da house!

It’s been a goodish day - until I ate an iced party ring biscuit (toddlers favourite) .... but hey ho

Tonight’s tea will be

Simla Chicken - it’s roast chicken in cream with added spices - no idea of recipe as such as it’s in my head (I remember it from a book my mum used to have called “recipes for not very bright girls” or something similar . It was the 1960s and even as a child I was a bit Hmm

Roast chicken
Tub of double cream
Add a few good splodges of Worcester sauce to cream
And a bit of garlic purée
A teaspoon or so of English mustard
Salt and pepper

Cut roast chicken up into strips - put into a shallow baking dish
Put cream over chicken
Bake until it starts bubbling ( 15 Mins ?)

Serve with rice / or low carb cauliflower rice like I am having tonight

As I said it’s not a recipe as such - it’s a thing you keep tasting until it tastes nice

It’s great if you have leftover chicken or turkey

TempusEejit · 10/11/2017 17:52

This the celeriac dauphinois on the Bootcamp recipe thread is great, it freezes well too (just google mumsnet celeriac dauphinois if you don't want to wade through the entire thread). Celeriac remoulade is also good, nice alternative to coleslaw.

I also make celeriac rostis/hash browns: 250g celeriac, peeled and grated, 30g grated Parmesan (or any other grated cheese you fancy), 1 egg, salt & pepper to taste, (you can also add some cooked crumbled bacon). Combine all ingredients together in a bowl, shape into 12 mounds on a greased baking sheet. Spray rostis with oil. Bake at 180 degC for 20-25 mins turning halfway through. They also freeze well and can be reheated from frozen.

Celeriac chips - you can roast them as is but I find they can burn before they get a chance to crisp up so I parboil them for a couple of mins then coat with beaten egg then ground almonds. Place on greased baking sheet, spray with oil and bake for around 30 mins at 200degC.

cafeaulaitpourvous · 10/11/2017 17:55

And - I have bought myself a cheap food processor so I can chop up cauliflower to make rice ( the bought stuff makes me heave) and cut up celeriac thinly to make gratin

singadream · 10/11/2017 18:36

Nsv. Thought we would have takeaway tonight as knackered etc. But got M&S meal deal instead. Duck legs and red cabbage. Dh can have the wine and pudding.

Thiswillbemyusername · 10/11/2017 19:12

@TempusEejit thank you Flowers

prettybird · 10/11/2017 19:17

Poorbuthappy - I should have been clearer: this WoE can indeed affect periods as it releases oestrogen with the fat cells. But I don't know if it is responsible for blood clots and/or flooding - I just know that those aspects started happening to me more often as I went through the peri-menopause up to the full menopause (I'm now 56).
