Thanks everyone for being so kind yesterday with my ramblings. I’m sorry other people feel this way too, but rather relieving to know I’m not alone!
I am going to try a v strict meal plan for all meals this week, and see if that helps. Like someone upthread, I am good at sorting dinners, but breakfasts and lunches not so good so rely on what is easy and around. Which is almost always carby Hmm
So here goes, climbing back into the saddle. Day 1 of 43...

ponygirlcurtis · 05/11/2017 08:59

Sorry for your loss BlackMozart. Flowers

Re self-sabotage - I found this woe put my emotional eating right and kept me on a more even keel with energy throughout the day, rather than the massive peaks and troughs I had from eating all the carbs. It isn't magic though and I still do get exhausted from just daily busy life but I am not falling asleep mid-sentence in the afternoons now.

More recently, I have also found this website really useful on the emotional eating/self-sabotage front, it gave me lots to think about. She recommends resetting things with lovely nutritious non-processed foods which is just what the first two weeks of Bootcamp is about.

CremeDeSudo · 05/11/2017 09:07

@BlackMozart I'm also sorry to hear about your dog. I've never had one but I know they're like a child to the family Flowers

I went to an Italian last night and had chicken with ham and melted mozzarella I'm top in a tomato sauce with vegetables. It was nice but all I could think was I'd just paid 15 quid for something I could very easily make at home for a fraction of the price and probably nicer! Does anyone else find this about Italians? I'm sure people think I'm a food snob! Blush

DrDiva · 05/11/2017 09:11

creme I have that feeling often in restaurants, as I am a pretty good cook if I say so meself. I am definitely a food snob, and what is worse, I have created one in my 5yo DS Shock Grin He has always been a brilliant eater, and is already turning into a cook (aka self preservation on my part)

FurryTurnip · 05/11/2017 09:16

I'm with you on that Creme. I think it's difficult if you are a decent cook, then you really resent paying for average restaurant food that you could easily have made.

I cook a lot of curry, and as much as I love going out for meals, I get annoyed when I've paid about £9 for a bowl of dhal or some veg dish that I could have made better and significantly cheaper. (Yes of course that doesn't cover restraurant overheads etc, but you see my point.)

My most annoying meal out was for a friends hen night, a very meaty restaurant and I am a veggie. My meal was literally half a courgettes stuffed with chick peas in tinned tomatoes. It was £18. Must have been ten years ago but still annoys me!

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 05/11/2017 09:19

Creme - yes, I getvthat feeling in restaurants, if I'm being indecisive I often choose something I couldn't or wouldn't cook myself but that isn't easy with Italian. Unfortunately I often choose chips on that basis as we don't often have them at home and then only oven chips. I feel more reluctant on this WOE to to pay £15 for something with half a plate of salad or veg on the side that I could easily do at home in place of beautiful crispy chips that I couldn't.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 05/11/2017 09:25

Disclaimer - I know I should get kicked off the thread for that last post Blush

SoMuchToBits · 05/11/2017 09:32

YoLo, I'm another one whose arthritis is much better on this WOE. I'm no longer getting up in the morning and hobbling around for the first few minutes due to pain in my feet, and can now climb the stairs without hanging onto the bannister rail to make sure my knees don't hurt so much!

Crème, I do agree about spending money in restaurants for something you could make at home. I'm also quite a good cook, so resent paying for a meal out if it isn't going to be a complete treat. Fortunately ds (16) also loves good food, so if we go out, we will usually agree on the sort of places we want to eat!

prettybird · 05/11/2017 09:52

Have a similar problem with restaurants. Fortunately our favourite Italian also does the most fabulous Italian sausages, so I'll have that served with wilted greens (beautifully done with garlic) rather than the normal mash, while dh and ds have pizza. Grin I've also had braised liver there - not something I'm good at cooking, but something they do really well.

Our main complaint with restaurants is the cost of wine. If we can get through a meal at a "new" restaurant without dh having an argument discussion with the sommelier or waiter about the iniqitous mark-up, I take that as a victory! Grin

It's one of the reasons we like to eat (well!) at home SmileWine

SoMuchToBits · 05/11/2017 10:02

You've just reminded me, prettybird that we had wilted spinach (cooked in butter) with our lamb kleftiko last night. As a child, I hated spinach, but I now realise that was because it was always boiled to a soggy mess (a bit like eating wet knitting), and I now love it either raw as salad leaves or sautéed in butter!

prettybird · 05/11/2017 10:15

I'm the same with brussels and cauliflower. Now love them when microwaved and not over cooked to sogginess in butter Smile

ClearEyesFullHearts · 05/11/2017 10:19

I want to write an ode to Celeriac Chips. Oh my giddy aunt!

Cooked them for the first time following some random recipe I found, sort of.

Instead of par-frying in duck fat as recommended ('cause that's not one of my cupboard staples I'm afraid) I used butter. 500 ml of butter. Shock

When tender they came out onto paper towels then eventually into the deep fat fryer for a few minutes until golden brown.

I could eat those every day.

Almahart · 05/11/2017 10:26

cleareyes I make sort of nachos with them by adding sour cream, grated cheddar and chilli flakes. Amazing

Can anyone explain physilium hushs to me? Do I buy powered or whole?

SayrraT · 05/11/2017 10:34

chinchilla the keto waffles are fab. I had leftover batter yesterday so I put it in the fridge and made more pancakes today.

I didn't use any sweetener in mine so even lower carbs.

So the gain has all disappeared, must have just been water retention as I was glugging the water last night. Not managed to make it out for a run as it was my lie in & I was tired, so slept instead & now just doing some last minute wipe downs etc before in laws turn up.

Lesson learned and definitely no more drinking!

Food today:
L - out, plan for half chicken & swap the chips for salad
D - salad & mayo, unless I'm still full, in which case it'll probably be a snack of pork scratchings or something.

BrassicaBabe · 05/11/2017 10:44

Oooh celeriac nachos, I’m feeling they!!

I love cooking too. I’m really missing the bread element to that. I have a pizza oven outside that is more than neglected Sad

BrassicaBabe · 05/11/2017 10:45

*that

TempusEejit · 05/11/2017 10:52

Alma depends on what you want the psyllium husks for - if it's for baking then you need the finely ground stuff, and check the product reviews as some turn your baking purple! Harmless but unappetising.

I would highly recommend that those of you who are on the go all the time buy a waffle maker. Make up a big batch of low carb waffles - they freeze well. Then when you need a quick snack or meal but don't fancy an omelette for the billionth time they make brilliant ham and/or cheese "toasties" - simply fry for a couple of minutes each side in butter. They're also great with sugar free syrup and cream - btw the Anchor extra thick squirty cream has no added sugar or sweetener - really handy!

JumpingIntoLCHF · 05/11/2017 11:05

Interested in these low carb waffles... has someone posted a link because I can't find it.

SayrraT · 05/11/2017 11:12

JumpingIntoLCHF · 05/11/2017 11:37

Brilliant thanks for that.

starsky22 · 05/11/2017 11:44

Happy Sunday bootcampers!

I've been trying to avoid a lot of temptation this weekend. DS1 party yesterday, followed by family visiting, then fireworks, then dinner out! Did have small piece of birthday cake, but didn't eat any sandwiches, crisps, party rings etc.

Yesterday:
B fasting
S babybel
L pumpkin soup & chipolata sausages, v. small piece of chocolate cake
D steak, lettuce wedge with blue cheese, garlic mushrooms, onions and 1 chip, tasted awful so didn't rest anymore!

Having roast beef later so today's challenge is to avoid the roast potatoes, parnsips & Yorkshire puddings!

Scabbersley · 05/11/2017 11:45

Omg the headaches!! I have ANOTHER headache today. Is there any chance they could be linked??

Gammeldragz · 05/11/2017 12:03

scabbers have you had enough salt/electrolytes and water? I still get the odd headache, haven't pinned down exact triggers yet but usually go for salt and water and first line of attack.
