I love this week, because this is when all the naysayers and doubters realise that this WOE really works!

(... and those who've cheated realise that that really doesn't work Wink)

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your first loss

I missed most of this weekend as I have my very lovely SIL staying with us, prior to her leaving for a 6 month stint in Australia. So I haven't been able to be as glued to the laptop as I am usually.

Glad to hear that some of you have reported in good losses already - I'll look forward to hearing the rest today!

Good luck everyone, for this second week. Hopefully after a good first week you'll know it's worth it Flowers

Wow @starsky22 that's amazing! Really shows your progress

@FurryTurnip - was it you asking about Quorn? It's not really an ideal food, as it is very heavily processed, but I get that it's a useful ingredient if you're veggie. Be careful when you choose it, though, as the different products from Quorn have wildly different carb counts.

So a week today I go off on holiday. I haven't managed to shed the weight I wanted to, but I'm definitely rocking a slimmer silhouette, so I don't think I'll be frightening too many small children round the pool. My aim is to keep my food as low carb as possible, and not to eat too much - which is always really easy on an AI holiday! But generally speaking the breakfast buffets are generally easy to navigate, and there's usually an omelette station.

Next week is a difficult one from a LC point of view as I have 23evening social events, and our company awayday on Thursday - I've ordered my lunch in advance for that, so I know it will be low carb - but it's usually a very boozy day!

BIWI is that a typo or do you really have 23 evening events next week?!

blackteaplease · 21/10/2017 13:49

Wow Starsky you look fabulous, you must be very proud of yourselves.

We are stuck in with storm Brian lashing the house. I have baked cakes and biscuits with the kids and not eaten any of them.

BIWI · 21/10/2017 14:00

[grin

Yes, I'm a true socialite! No, it's 3.

Lthewife That's an interesting change, why does weight loss change the rotation of your arm?

SayrraT · 21/10/2017 14:07

Grin I was imagining you charging about getting changed in the back of a taxi several times each evening!

dataandspot · 21/10/2017 14:13

Star sky

Thankyou for posting the link. Love the idea of standing back and viewing things as a scientist would!

Carbs seem to do something to my brain!

ShastaBeast · 21/10/2017 14:21

I’ve been searching for a coconut muffin or cookie or bread recipe for ages and can’t find a decent one without sweeteners.

Any recommendations? I was hoping to bake with the kids over half term of not this afternoon.

Gammeldragz · 21/10/2017 14:22

starsky brilliant progress photo!
I've got a Christmas party to do beginning December. We have to pay for the meal, so I'm leaning towards having it as a cheat day as there aren't many LC options other than having roast turkey with a few veg, which really isn't worth paying nearly £20 for! I'll pop in the pub and look at their normal menu, I may be able to work around it. But. I'll be drinking anyway... Hmm, decisions! This will be my only night out before the end of the year and I only plan to take 2 days off at Xmas, so I should he able to manage it as a planned indulgence. Perhaps I should set a target, like if I lose 7lb by then I can have the full meal!

BIWI · 21/10/2017 14:43

Hmm @Gammeldragz - sounds to me like you're looking for excuses for a cheat day! Roast turkey with lots of (low carb) veg sounds perfect to me!

Can anyone advise re courgette in place of pasta sheets in lasagne please? I’ve had a look online and seen grilling the strips or salting them to draw out the moisture. Thanks

BIWI · 21/10/2017 14:59

This recipe doesn't bother

Progress so far... Started January.

BIWI · 21/10/2017 15:00

... but other recipes do.

As I'm all in favour of easy, I'd try it without having to do anything!

Gammeldragz · 21/10/2017 15:00

BIWI I know I am. It's mostly as I'm a tight Git and don't want to pay £20+ for a meal I will barely eat! It's 6 weeks away anyway, so will see how BC is going by then.

Rshard · 21/10/2017 15:01

Thanks BIWI, I’ll leave them alone.

Wow ragz, what a difference!

BIWI · 21/10/2017 15:04

But why will you barely eat it? You'll get the turkey, and other veg - surely you can have extra veg to make up for not having potatoes? And a Christmas meal usually has lots of different veg.

Please don't think that just because you're paying £20 that allows you to be a carby twat!!!

Gammeldragz · 21/10/2017 15:05

Here's the menu. We can have only 2 courses if we want not sure about 1.

Week 2 - Low Carb Bootcamp - my favourite week!
Gammeldragz · 21/10/2017 15:07

From previous years, the veg aren't great. But I could eat Turkey, pig in blanket, sprouts. Not stuffing, parsnips, carrots. Can't remember what other veg... But there will be wine. So maybe no pudding so I can have wine? (Wine is included usually)

Gammeldragz · 21/10/2017 15:10

I could have the cheese course without the biscuits, maybe ask for celery/cucumber. That would fill me up a bit. I'm worried the main won't have enough fat. Maybe lamb rather than Turkey but the red wine sauce might be carby...

SoMuchToBits · 21/10/2017 15:15

I'd have the cheese for pudding (without the biscuits but maybe ask if they can give you some cucumber or something with it).

SoMuchToBits · 21/10/2017 15:16

Oh, X posts!

SoMuchToBits · 21/10/2017 15:18

The sausage and bacon will add fat to the turkey. Maybe ask for some mayo with it?

BIWI · 21/10/2017 15:20

Oh! I missed your photos, @Gammeldragz - amazing!!!

In terms of the food, I'd worry less about the fat content and more about the carbs. On that basis I'd probably go for the beef - definitely avoid potatoes and parsnips, but carrots aren't - relatively speaking - too bad.

In the great scheme of things, a Yorkshire pudding (or perhaps half? Wink) will add around 12-15g carbs - if you keep everything else low carb you can still treat yourself to that.

And I'd go for the cheese and ask for celery.

Starsky I think the arm rotation is just a size thing, the slimmer you are the more free space there is for your arms to hang freely. Try rotating your arms so the backs of your hands face forwards and see what happens to your shoulders and elbows. Your shoulders become more hunched over, your elbows bend slightly and your arms start to move away from your body. When you’re carrying excess weight your arms are forced into that position by the extra fat tissue. Lose the fat, regain the space and they can hang freely from the shoulder again.
