I love this week, because this is when all the naysayers and doubters realise that this WOE really works!

(... and those who've cheated realise that that really doesn't work Wink)

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your first loss

I missed most of this weekend as I have my very lovely SIL staying with us, prior to her leaving for a 6 month stint in Australia. So I haven't been able to be as glued to the laptop as I am usually.

Glad to hear that some of you have reported in good losses already - I'll look forward to hearing the rest today!

Good luck everyone, for this second week. Hopefully after a good first week you'll know it's worth it Flowers

Starsky and leni

Having carbs seems to flick a switch in my brain.

starsky22 · 20/10/2017 23:43

data have a read of this article, it explains why you have that reaction and I found it really helpful:

Ok. It’s half term holiday from tomorrow and we’re on holiday. It’s time to get real

I have planned for no bread, pasta, rice or crisps. So all good. And I’m a massive crisp monster so this is going to the hard.

But there will definitely be a visit to a fish and chip restaurant in the week. And feck I need a drink!! I’ll do without the gin because I like nice tonic and stick with wine.

(Btw I’ve been an angel for the last 3-4 weeks before I get shouted at Smile)

So, my question is: if I drink wine and few portions of chips am I going to put on half a stone like a cartoon character hooked up to a compressor?!

I’m packing my scales! I’ll be ecstatic if I can plan to maintain

AveAtqueVale · 20/10/2017 23:50

Big stick accepted as deserved Blush. DH has done his husbandry duty and thrown out the remaining macaroon bars. And yes I think I will just have to keep saying no next week. It's going to get old very quickly but tbh I might have to put my foot down about my mother's tendency to feed DS1 a constant stream of crap anyway. I don't mind if it's just for an afternoon at her house now and then but not for six days. I'm determined not to cave though!

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 21/10/2017 01:24

@BIWI
Been up 14 hours rode 100 miles into a cross wind. Did some shopping had 2 lunch salads at 11 and 3.
Was walking over to the restaurant at 7:45 picked up paper tourist mag and the cookie. Had just been reviewing restaurant menu in the room confirming something was available to eat as well.

Now it really explains the see food diet I was on. Lucky only ate half and gave rest to the birds

GoBigOrange · 21/10/2017 04:44

Glad to report I don't need any attention from BIWI's big stick! I'm content with what I'm eating, and only really miss bread, and the sugar in my coffee.

Food today:

B - 2 egg omelet with spinach and ham.
L - Tuna mayonnaise with cucumber and celery. (Kudos to DH for getting me zero carb mayo)
D - Beef ribs, turnip dauphinois, cabbage fried in butter with caraway seeds.
S - A dozen green olives and a few cubes of cheese.

It is still a little over a month away, but the binge-fest which is Thanksgiving is coming for me. So much food, and most of it laden with carbs and sugar. In fact pretty much the only safe food for me will be the turkey! I'm not sure quite how to handle that without looking like a bit of a twat to the family by sitting there with nothing but a plate of turkey, but equally don't want to be a carby twat! Confused

wombattoo · 21/10/2017 05:13

GoBig
You might think you look like a twat but you won't. You can have the turkey and all the trimmings just avoid the potatoes. Who will even notice? Enjoy it and don't feel any guilt. Avoid the carby shit but eat everything else. Happy thanksgiving Thanks

OuaisMaisBon · 21/10/2017 05:26

Savoury yoghurt lovers unite! Thanks for all the ideas, everyone! I'll be passing on them, though, as I'm not risking eating my favourite Fage full fat yoghurt at the mo, because I find it has a tendency to aggravate my already irritable colon.
dataandspot Gosh, congratulations, I've never lasted as long as 13 weeks without carbs, because once I give in to one small craving (as simple as a sweet potato chip off someone else's plate) - that's it, I'm done for and I just go all out for carbs of all sorts. If I manage to last till Monday on this woe, I'll be pleased with myself, though I am determined to make it to 30 days, at least, to get rid of the wine and chocolate cravings which are currently still bothering me every evening. Even if I don't lose any more weight (have still "only" lost the 3lbs I put on in a carb-fest on the day before BC started), at least, hopefully, I will have got myself out of the pattern of several glasses of wine and something sweet every evening, which can only be good!

I hope we will have good news on C4 today.

KOKO, everyone! (Am I the only one who is reminded of Ma Ramotswe when I see "KOKO", btw?Grin)

GrumpyOldFucker · 21/10/2017 06:43

Hello all, sounds like all of us are KOKO. I also think a minor mishap with a carb can be a learning experience - you learn to be more conscious in future, and quite often that the carby thing just isn’t worth it. (Steps off high horse)

Anyway, yesterday I cooked a couple of meals I’ll definitely repeat.

Lunch was a fake omelette Arnold Bennet with smoked mackerel and double cream, with a side salad.
Dinner was a Thai red curry with confit duck, aubergines and a few tomatoes.

So full!

FurryTurnip · 21/10/2017 07:51

Ooh Thai curry, thanks Grumpy you've given me some inspiration for tonight's dinner.

Am struggling a bit with inspiration at the moment.... Not worried about falling into a big pile of carbs, just not particular interested in food, though still hungry. Think this WOE is harder as a vegetarian as the variety is much more limited.

BIWI the rules don't mention quorn. Now I know it's processed crap, but a plain fillet has 1.9g of carbs per 100g. Are they allowed (occasionally)? Need some texture in my life, am missing pulses....

Today's plans:
B: 2 boiled eggs
L: spinach 'bread' with cream cheese and salad
D: Thai veg curry with cauli rice

HarlotsWeb · 21/10/2017 08:04

Weighed myself early for this week (as I will be away without scales now for another week). I have lost 2lbs since last Monday. A bit (stupidly) disappointed not to have another 9lb extravaganza, but know that that is silly. Also, I was the carby twat to end all carby twats on Monday, so it serves me right. And I am weighing two days early.

Now off on holiday!

HarlotsWeb · 21/10/2017 08:04

I think there will only be two tricky social meals to navigate, but I think I will just be honest. They have known me a long time.

Hippadippadation · 21/10/2017 08:10

data I'm exactly the same with the carbs, I just can't stop myself once I start & it sets off weeks & months of bingeing. I'll read that article in a minute starskey

I've got DH's parents, aunt & uncle coming today for lunch. DH is making stromboli, but I've got loads of nice salads, cheeses & meats as well to eat. The only issue will be that I've made a delicious apple, cinnamon and walnut cake for pudding. I'm not planning on eating any, but it will probably cause an argument later, so I've got that to look forward to! Angry

DH doesn't seem to understand that this WOE works for me and my sugar cravings. We had a huge argument yesterday about it. He thinks it's "not healthy" to not eat bread, pasta etc. He says I look "gaunt" (I really don't, my BMI is like 22!!) and I'm "not eating" - I am, just not as much and not snacking. It's really doing my head in.

Hippadippadation · 21/10/2017 08:11

Brassica we've already said no chips on bootcamp. Do you want to commit to this or not? If you're going to the chippy, have kebab meat and salad.

BIWI · 21/10/2017 08:11

@starsky22 that article is really good - thanks for posting.

@Harlotsweb I'm very pleased you've lost again - especially if you've been a carby twat! Have a great holiday, but try not to undo what you've achieved. Have a read of the article that starsky posted in preparation

OP posts:
YoLoNovVitMe · 21/10/2017 08:20

brassica i second what Hippa says. A "few portions of chips" will undo all your hard work so far. And they are so not worth it. You are worth more as a human being who deserves to be fed wonderful nutritious low carb food. Don't stuff yourself with carby potatoes! Its not a treat, it's doing you harm.

Eat the fish and pick the batter off. Eat two fish if that is what it takes to fill you up. But the old habits need to go. They are what made you fat. And you want to be slim and healthy and more comfortable in your body than you feel now. Focus on that.

And you don't need the wine either Wink

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 21/10/2017 08:27

Thanks for the article Starsky. The first paragraph basically describes what I have been doing all year. Things are so much better when I kick the carbs again and I'm so glad I have restarted properly this time.

Even when you know what's going on it's really hard to control your body. I can't count the number of times I did two days of low carb and then had a McDonald's or a giant slab of cake.

Bootcamp and the support from you all has really really helped. Thanks so much for all the support.

twinkledag · 21/10/2017 08:39

I stuck with it yesterday, so pleased! It got to the end of the day, DH and I both tired and hungry. Nearly thought 'screw it's, let's get a takeaway' but we don't really have the spare money to keep doing that plus I didn't really fancy anything so I had my halloumi and chorizo salad and DH had the same but in a pitta.

On track to lose 2lbs this week. If I lose 1 per week in this boot camp I'll be happy, so going to KOKO Smile

Thanks for not giving up on me! Love this group Flowers

ASDismynormality · 21/10/2017 08:41

I hope everyone has a good weekend in preparation for Mondays weigh in.

I was retweeted by the Diet Doctor yesterday which was quite exciting for me!

CarbyDeadUn · 21/10/2017 08:46

Good morning!

Here it is a real proper autumn sunny day. I'm going to boil myself in the bath and go for a walk in the forest. DD1 is home this weekend too so its all rather nice (she's at uni and i miss her desperately). Also going to sing with choir at a thing and then meeeting a beautiful friend for coffee and something extremely exciting (but its a secret so i can't talk about it yet). And it's Saturday so it's Meatzza day.

What are my bootcampers up to this weekend?

prettybird · 21/10/2017 08:47

I'm off to Aberdeen (from Glasgow) for the day with ds to go to the Uni's Open Day. Have brought plenty of water with me Smile - as well as low carb snacks (pepperami and babybels)

Saw 12 stone this morning - and 13.5lb Smile - so Ilovecherries , I am continuing to track you Wink Hopefully I'll still see it on Monday Grin

Taking the opportunity on the train to read magazines I'm behind on. Saw this in September's Good Housekeeping. It ties in with what we were talking about when the oldies amongst us we were describing how the pattern of eating has changed over the decades and has probably contributed to the obesity crisis. It also echoes what some of you us have been saying about our experiences - especially when we go off piste. It was in an article entitled, "Oops, are you snaccident prone". There was some good stuff - like not feeding negative emotions and the fact that often you're thirsty, not hungry. Bits I des agreed with - like when it describes the satiety combo it talks about fibre and protein and doesn't mention fat, yet elsewhere talks about "outsmarting snack chemistry" by avoiding processed snacks that leave you wanting more and choose real foods that are naturally high in fats, fibre and protein such as coconut, avocado, cheese, nuts and seeds". It's as if it daren't acknowledge the role that fats play.

Week 2 - Low Carb Bootcamp - my favourite week!
InkyToesies · 21/10/2017 08:47

Thank you Starsky - really interesting info at that link. I've saved it.

Veryflummoxed · 21/10/2017 09:07

Brassica I suggest you read Starsky’s link for your answer.* And good luck.*

* Kudos to DH for getting me zero carb mayo) oh what kind is that? Oh just seen Thanksgiving so I guess you’re not in the UK. You don’t say who’s cooking but when we have christmas dinner we have turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing made with sausage meat, lots of low carb high fat veg and roast/ mashed celariac and swede. I don’t feel deprived. (I do eat a lot, it’s Christmas) Berries and cream for afters.*

I’m not vegetarian Furry nut BIWI has said previously that the plains quorn is allowed (limited as processed)

Not caught up yet but will later

Thiswillbemyusername · 21/10/2017 09:10

Morning everyone! So much motivation on the thread this morning, I think it'll put me off carbs forever Grin

SoMuchToBits · 21/10/2017 09:13

Interesting article, Starsky, and the photo at the top of all the bread just looked so unappealing!

Also an interesting article prettybird. I think although lots of people now get the idea that sugar is bad for us, and even that too much refined carb products are bad, many people are still scared of fat, especially animal fats like butter and meat fat.

Ouais, yes I'm reminded of Mma Ramotswe by the KOKO too! Grin

I think lunch will be chicken and avocado salad (chicken cooked in butter, mayo on the salad) and dinner will be something with salmon but not sure what yet.
