I love this week, because this is when all the naysayers and doubters realise that this WOE really works!

(... and those who've cheated realise that that really doesn't work Wink)

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your first loss

I missed most of this weekend as I have my very lovely SIL staying with us, prior to her leaving for a 6 month stint in Australia. So I haven't been able to be as glued to the laptop as I am usually.

Glad to hear that some of you have reported in good losses already - I'll look forward to hearing the rest today!

Good luck everyone, for this second week. Hopefully after a good first week you'll know it's worth it Flowers

C4 you are so harsh! But entirely correct. I don't know why I did it. It was really stupid. Will try my damnedest not to let it happen again.

blacktea, I think sometimes you just have a vision in your head of the entirety of something - like maybe for you you have a vision of the mother figure sitting and eating the cake together with the person she made it for. But you will still be there and just as much part of the whole scene whether or not the cake is in your mouth. And your child probably won't notice at all, so from his perspective his birthday will be precisely as it should be.) I do sympathise with weird emotional connections though. But you can do this. Do you feel better for having had a cry?

blackteaplease · 17/10/2017 14:18

Thanks @Harlots. You have perfectly described my feelings. They are also clouded by my youngest having a settling in session at pre school today (not sure why that's thrown me, he's been with a childminder for a year) and the upcoming anniversary of my mum's passing.

I feel very wobbly at the moment, need to pull myself together before ds wakes from his nap.

HarlotsWeb · 17/10/2017 14:20

:( Maybe have a final blub or a sleep or something, and get it all out of your system to be ready to crack on happily.

prettybird · 17/10/2017 14:39

Only you know how you will be able to control yourself blacktea

My own experience is that I can cope with the occasional "mindful" special occasion cake (for example, I had a tiny piece of the special light fruit cake I made for ds' birthday), but what will cause me to fall off the wagon is sustained temptation - like Christmas or staying in a ski chalet in France for a week Blush

My thinking sometimes goes along the lines of "Will I have another occasion to eat this treat?" A cake made specially for a particular occasion, no, so I'll have one tiny piece; scones for afternoon tea, yes (because they can be made whenever I feel like it), so I can resist it.

But I can fully understand your fear: not quite the same but illustrating a similar mindset, what kept me from mixed feeding ds and persevering with breastfeeding despite apparent problem with his weight gain (in hindsight, it was "catch down" growth, adjusting to his correct growth curve) was the fear that if I have him any formula, my milk would immediately dry up Shock It was a great motivator Grin Well, it worked for me and I successfully breastfed him for 13 months Smile (He's now a strapping 17 year old Grin).

Scabbersley · 17/10/2017 14:52

If any of you are struggling with constipation, I can highly recommend konjac noodles Blush they aren't known as the broom of the stomach for nothing Shock

Almahart · 17/10/2017 15:08

Black tea Flowers I found the run up to the first anniversary of my mums death incredibly difficult. I felt better as soon as the day had passed. Be kind to yourself

HolgerDanske · 17/10/2017 15:17

Blacktea Flowers

Whatever feels right will be right.

Be kind to yourself.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 17/10/2017 15:25

B: Greek yoghurt
L: leek and broccoli soup
D: meatballs with veg

S: a lot of Brie. I have been really hungry today, probably not drunk quite enough and pleased to have avoided sugar but I do have a lot of weight to lose and don’t want to fill myself up on cheese really. Sigh.

HolgerDanske · 17/10/2017 15:30

Embrace the cheese! If you wish to have a snack, have one. With no guilt. Accept it, enjoy it, appreciate it.

This is not a deprivation diet.

Next week you will likely feel marginally less hungry, so you will likely have less cheese. Some days you might not want or need any at all. So on the days that you do choose to have some, there is no need to sigh about it.

HolgerDanske · 17/10/2017 15:37

Apologies if I am preaching to the choir here - I can't keep track of the old timers who might be more aware of the thought process we try to aim for, or if I am talking to a newbie who might need some support in switching away from guilt-based reactions to food and snacking.

Almahart · 17/10/2017 16:16

I have a new discovery - red chilli flake on broccoli and Stilton soup make it totally delicious

Thiswillbemyusername · 17/10/2017 16:29

@blackteaplease I hope you're okay Flowers sorry to hear you're going through such a rough time (I think you deserve a bit of Cake it will be a good way to test your willpower Smile )

Hippadippadation · 17/10/2017 16:39

Bloody heartburn today, so not had as much nice stuff as I wanted:

L - omelette with chopped up sausage, mushrooms and a couple of cherry toms
D - have got salmon fillet and green veg to stirfry with courgette noodles, but can't see myself having any if this bloody heartburn doesn't do one.

No remedies touch it. It's so painful, I need to go to the GP really.

Mimosa1 · 17/10/2017 17:37

Oh hippa that sounds grim, poor you .i had a little Heartburn in my last pregnancy and know just enough to know having it badly must be awful. I used to drink gallons of whole milk to help. A spoonful of cream might help and be lchf appropriate?

In my quest for non disgusting Greek yoghurt, I've discover Tesco's Finest is the most palatable so far, and much nicer than total. I'm spending quite a bit more money on this WOE as having more meat for one thing, but As Biwi would say, I'm worth it, and this woe is working for me.

I'm cooking tomorrow for a dinner party with some new friends. She runs a lifestyle blog and is a marvellous cook. My plan is to roast a lovely chicken, try the celeriac gratin, roast cauliflower or cheesy leeks. I suppose I will have to serve roast potatoes as don't think DH would accept roast celeriac... I've bought some 100% chocolate as I'm remembering a recipe for chocolate mousse that is only eggs and chocolate - hope it won't be too bitter. You can lighten it with double cream but it's much less rich. I'm just doing BC light as def not BC appropriate. Failing which will serve berries and whipped cream. I'm not a great cook so rather nervous!

blackteaplease · 17/10/2017 17:38

Thanks again everyone. It's the 2nd anniversary and I thought I was OK. Can't believe a chat about cake set me off.

ChinchillaFur · 17/10/2017 17:42

I'm really enjoying reading what everyone is eating and also when people have found it hard or have cheated. It's good to be prepared as I have felt fine so far and not been tempted really. However, next week we are going on a 5 day family city break to Geneva and I am so looking forward to it but also a bit apprehensive about what food will be available, especially in the airport/on the plane. We are in a SC aparthotel but continental breakfast is also provided. We'll probably be having lots of meals out, although I've heard it is really expensive so maybe not! I rarely drink so that won't be an issue.

I must tell you all that I made celeriac French fries and OMG they were AMAZING! I did them on a baking tray with butter and oil. They were so sweet. You must all try them if you haven't before Smile

ilovecherries · 17/10/2017 17:43

Asd, that must be a bit disappointing. Is that within a normal range of variation? How long till you can have it retested?

ASDismynormality · 17/10/2017 18:05

ilove. 42 - 47 is pre diabetes, at 40 I am within normal range but only just. I will be retested in 3 months, hopefully it will be back down to 38 or lower.

prettybird · 17/10/2017 18:19

Mimosa - search the BootCamp Recipe thread for "chocolate pots with orange and cardamom". 200g dark chocolate (I used Lidl 74%), juice and zest of one orange (so not quite Boot Camp but shared amongst 8!), 100ml milk/cream (last time I used 50:50 cream:ff milk which worked well, the previous time I used just cream which made it a bit dense), cardamom pods and 2 eggs. It's very rich, so served in wee espresso cups (if you have them) looks special (and means you make about 8) and is plenty, especially if you take your time to savour them. Alternatively, you can use ramekins. It's not too bitter - ds loves it Smile. You can as you say, fold whipped cream through it which would make the servings a bit bigger.

Mimosa1 · 17/10/2017 18:36

Thanks Ragz and Blacktea, I'm sorry things are difficult at the moment - milestones are tricky when you're grieving, and I don't think it's silly at all.

wombattoo · 17/10/2017 18:42

Welcome back Ready

blacktea Sorry you feel so low today Thanks It will still be lovely to sit with the family whilst they enjoy the cake. I would try not to eat it easier said than done, I know Can you just take a teaspoon of cake?

wombattoo · 17/10/2017 18:46

Ragz s/s updated.

Thiswillbemyusername · 17/10/2017 19:13

It's quite difficult to eat more fat than protein, don't you think? The two tend to be combined and, checking back on my food diaries for the previous days, they seem to end up coming up equal.

However, the diaries don't include whatever oil or butter the food was cooked in, so I'm hopeful that makes all the difference Smile

Scabbersley · 17/10/2017 19:19

was planning some fish for dinner but stomach is not behaving itself. I made parmesan crisps, they were delicious! But now feel very full and bloated and a bit crap.

Bake Off is going to be a difficult watch Sad

Scabbersley · 17/10/2017 19:20

so today:
B: buttery eggs and sausage
L: konjac noodles, broccoli, spinach, chicken, soy
S: parmesan crisps, quite a lot of olives!
D: skipping

not sure I've managed enough water, definitely 1.5l thoubh
