Hi all Gammedaggers.
Good news: I was told tonight by a friend who hasn't seen me for 3 weeks as she's been away on holiday "you've lost a lot of weight, haven't you?"

A NSV was that we went a walk today and we went to the cafe and i had a coffee, last time we were there I ate a great big sickly millionaires shortbread that made me feel sick and bloated. Then on the way back I was dreading the uphill walk as I usually get puffed out but this time I didn't, and I'm thinking perhaps we've gone a different way that avoided the hill but we'd gone the usual way.
We have a builder!! He's really nice and knows his stuff - old school type. We just have to wait a month before he can start. I think he took sympathy on us.

starsky22 · 26/09/2017 23:05

Good news about the builder nomore

Keep the chocolate hidden moist you don't need it, stick with the gammeldags!

Today:
B bacon & scrambled eggs
L chilli with fried courgette, peppers, sour cream & cheese
D pork steak, cauli cheese & roasted broccoli

Been a while since I've had 3 meals, feels like I've eaten loads today!

twinkledag · 26/09/2017 23:36

C4 - sending you Flowers. Another one who loves your writing style Smile

Hello to everyone else, too many to namecheck as I haven't read for a couple of days.

I had a good food day today!

Sausage and egg
Halloumi and roast asparagus + broccoli with olives
Beef casserole and broccoli for dinner
Dark chocolate

Baked a cake with my toddler today and didn't have any Halo

YoLoGammelZammoDag · 26/09/2017 23:38

Great news nomore on all fronts.

Gammeldragz · 26/09/2017 23:44

yolo that sounds really good, I'll have to try it.

Lunch - two boiled eggs, spinach, humous.
Dinner - two small pork chops (with yummy fat!) with leeks, courgette and green beans cooked in butter.
9pm - Greek yogurt and cinnamon.

HippadoppaloppaGammeldag · 27/09/2017 06:24

nomore good news all round. Well done for resisting the shortbread too.

starsky your chilli sounds amazing! Might copy for next week!

C4 hope you feel better soon. Can't your status as patient of honour mean you can pull strings for a window bed? My mate works in NNU at QMC and I know a couple of the girls in PICU, but not sure they can help you, haha.

Got a chilled day today, just got to do the food shop with DD2 and take DD1 swimming. Food plan is:

L - tuna salad & mayo
D - chicken pizza bake (and that's the last of the roast chicken, phew!) and courgetti.

YoLoGammelZammoDag · 27/09/2017 06:52

c4 if you need a bit of cheering up this morning, read this thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3044378-Because-of-my-shyness-I-came-out-of-a-chip-shop-with-a-portion-of-fish?pg=1&order=

I was crying with laughter. Not sure it won't mess with your ventilator though!

HippadoppaloppaGammeldag · 27/09/2017 08:01

I was giggling over that last night at work!

Gammeldagfinderonwheels · 27/09/2017 08:42

I would never pull rank and ask for a window bed, I'm sure they would oblige but it's a small unit and people get used to patients being in a particular place so in general they don't move people around unless they are long stay patients. These guys go above and beyond for me and nobody else would be allowed to bring in the amount of stuff that I do. I also can't help thinking about the person who was in this bed and got shipped out because I needed to come in.

Last night was busy in my four bed bay, the patient opposite had their next of kin called in at 11:00pm and they stayed until 4:00am, luckily the patient turned right instead of left and has improved slightly and a very tired next of kin went home.
The patient in the bed next to me was also very unwell so we had two doctors and an extra nurse here as well.
I've not been brilliant either, I've had a very low temperature and low bp too. One peculiarity of high level spinal cord injury is the way it messes with your autonomic nervous system so when I get an infection I'm much more likely to get a low temperature than a high one. My temperature has been low since Sunday sitting around 35.4 but last night it took a dip to 34.2, so I'm hot and sweaty and almost hypothermic at the same time, my blood pressure is currently 85/42 which isn't good. I guess that I'm not on the correct antibiotic so it will be back to the drawing board today.

Namaste Bitches

ilovecherries · 27/09/2017 10:55

Nice little two pounds off this morning after 10 days holiday. Thanks mum for all the lovely low carb cooking. My dad gloomily said yesterday 'well, I suppose that will be me back on skinless chicken breasts till your next visit' :D

Mimosa1 · 27/09/2017 11:10

Oh C4 - that sounds tough, I'm thinking of you.

Hoops - chicken pizza bake sounds delicious.

Down another lbs today so the scales are being kind (after 2 weeks of not much happening at all). Still feels so sloooow though. Still, I suppose 9m on, 9m off where baby weight is concerned. I have a fancy work do tonight - it's an annual fun night out / awards ceremony and I'm pleased work asked me even though I'm on mat leave. The baby is still up twice a night after looking like he might sleep through for a few days - I got very excited but no - so it will make it easy to say no to the wine at least.

Gammeldragz · 27/09/2017 14:05

Breakfast at wetherspoons today. I had grilled halloumi and tandoori chicken bites. I looked it up on MFP and the chicken has 23g carbs?! There wasn't that much sauce on it. So I'm not sure about that...

Dinner will be chicken curry, so maybe a slightly higher carb day than intended.

But I did resist the stollen bites in Lidl. I did have to pick them up and cuddle them though. Getting fed up with no weight or inch loss and wanting to binge on carbs... Sad

c4 wow, your Obs would freak me out (haven't been let loose on the really poorly people yet!) Your NEWS scoring must be really high?! Why no storage in HDU? Too many machines around?

Moanranger · 27/09/2017 16:16

Hello, to all, C4 your resilience in the face of your situation is humbling - my physical niggles pale in significance - respect.
Gdragz re tandoori bites -sometimes the seasoning has sugar in it, which sends carb count sky high!
For me, carb flu abating, though I could do with feeling a little more energetic. On the plus side, I took a sneaky peek at scales (am trying to WI only once a week) and the trend is definitely downward- v motivating.
Due to yummy recipe suggestions up thread, I bought a mahoosive cauliflower - must weigh 2kg! - which I will cook tonight & cover with lush sauce & all can share, including vegetarian DS.

YoLoGammelZammoDag · 27/09/2017 18:08

I never ate cauli before this WOE. Now i eat it almost every day. Either that or broccoli. And often both. That goes for Swede too. And my teenage DC does after eating only peas and sweet corn for years as the only veg. We all feel so much healthier for it.

starsky22 · 27/09/2017 18:39

Moanranger where did you get the massive cauli from? The one delivered by sainsburys this week was tiny!

Mimosa & cherries well done on the weight loss

C4 Really hoping they can sort the antibiotics out and get rid of your infection

Been to drs today, told her I was worried about my health because my waist is over the recommended 31in, in fact over the high risk 34in. She weighed me as 66kg and said BMI is fine and ideal weight is 66.6kg, so I'm fine and as age is on my side I shouldn't worry. Which is reassuring, but makes me wonder why they have the recommended waist measurement. She also said she'd do some fasted blood tests to check my cholesterol, sugar, thyroid etc so I'll be interested to see how they come out, really wish I had results from before this woe to compare!

starsky22 · 27/09/2017 18:49

Just seen your photos C4, ouch! Bet you are a very interesting 'case' for the student drs though!

MOIST · 27/09/2017 19:09

I have made goulash. And cauli rice. Delicious! I'm branching out Grin

MOIST · 27/09/2017 19:10

Ouch C4.

Can I share a bruise photo?

YoLoGammelZammoDag · 27/09/2017 19:13

I have very shy veins. Not rebellious like the rest of me. I have 3 golden rules: 1) Never let a doctor near them, 2) or God forbid, a medical student and 3) insist on the proper phlebotomy ladies coming to the ward and refuse to be punctured again until they come. That is if I'm conscious to make that stand. I once had the Director of Nursing fit a cannula at 3am because I had been turned into a purple pin cushion and nobody else could/would do it.

Poor you C4. Don't let them try your wrists or feet. They really hurt. You probably know this already.

YoLoGammelZammoDag · 27/09/2017 19:14

What did you do moist ?? Get thrown from a bucking Bronco into a cement mixer full of rubble?

MOIST · 27/09/2017 19:18

I had my vein out last week. I bruise like a peach 🍑

I am shit hot at getting blood out of and cannulas in to difficult poorly veins. Very very rarely miss. When I do I take it as a personal slight and tell the patient it is obviously their fault for being difficult. In a nice way of course Grin.

ilovecherries · 27/09/2017 19:32

Starsky, my waist is still well over 34". And I don't have age on my side. Im trying to ignore (helpful), as I'm doing everything I can to reduce it, but it's being very stubborn. I'm starting to love k fairly lender of limb (and even arse) but I'm still barrel shaped in the middle bit.
